Fantastic reviews. No one does it better. I will be on the lookout for Old Portrero. Thanks
I can’t get enough of the Bulleit 12. Even at the low proof. Had to go grab a couple of backup bottles.
Recently had the Hard Truth Malted Rye and it’s excellent
Huge fan of Old Protrero, on my 3rd bottle over the past few years.
I agree with you Jason. Of the 3 I would lean toward the OP with the flavors that you highlight. . That being said, my go to Rye is Wild Turkey 101. Spicey, a little sweet, caramel and vanilla. A great pour! And, it is readily available where I live and under $30!!! 🙂 Thanks for the review. Cheers.
I came in excited about the bulleit 12yr and left looking for the Old Potrero! Thanks Jason!
Old Potrero SB is an absolute banger.
You need to get your hands on a cask strength Old Potrero , they are 🔥had one that was 8 years and 132 pf
Nice review. Picked up the Bulleit 12 Year Rye today. Will be cracking it open this weekend. 🥃
Awesome, been looking for a Bulleit 12 year rye review!
Love the Old Potrero 🥃👋👍. Cheers great reviews!!
I feel like these will all be findable. Glad I know which one to grab(Opd P) when I see them. Thank you for the review.
I dunno how Old Potrero is flying so under the radar... it's amazing whiskey.
Hmmm, glad I passed on the Bulleit 12 year this past weekend. Appreciate your reviews, Jason.
I’m a a fan of the regular Bulleit 95 Rye. Disappointed that the 12 yr didn’t build upon that. I really like Pot-distilled whiskies. I wish Old Potrero would be available locally (Iowa).
Old Potrero has been one of my go to Rye whiskeys for quite some time. Looking forward to purchasing the cask strength version soon. 👌🏻
Just finished an old bottle of 12yr Bulleit Rye and I gotta be honest, I really enjoyed it. Don't remember where I got it or how much I paid. But that Potrero sounds interesting. Pisser about the 700ml though.
Nice review! I always preferred lime sherbet:)
I've been impressed with this bottle. To me, I get a big blast of wet tobacco notes in here too. I haven't had a rye quite like this one before. Very distinctive. (btw you spelled "Potrero" incorrectly in the title... don't know if that can be corrected).
Best ryes available in order - Leopold 3CR, Old Potrero and Balcones Cask Strength
Glad you've come around to the Old Potrero because you weren't feeling it on the stream. I was digitally flicking your nuts while you were dissing it 🥃🤘
I often align with Jason's pallet but I'll say at the ABV the Bulleit 12 year has so much more flavor than you'd expect. It doesn't hit the typical notes Jason looks for but the flavor is there and it's quite nice.
Yeah not saying it's bad. But hoping it opens up a bit
It does, but not a lot more, I'm just impressed at the price/age/flavor, but it definitely isn't bringing something new or important the way it seems like that Old Potrero is.@@TheMashandDrum
So many things on the mash to make it proprietary. Type of malt, type of rye, yeast strain, entry proof.
MJ hated the BH Malted Rye when we tried it.
Yeah it's not great.
The THUMBS UP isn't working WTF!!! It's a conspiracy to keep Italianos down 😂
Seriously though, I hit the button and nothing.
Nice rundown. I've seen the Bulleit for $45 so I'll probably grab that.
Watching this while sipping on some 13th Colony Rye
That’s a great Rye.
so far the only rye I like...I am going back to the distillery for a 2nd time for another tour next week@@Losdaman
I actually like rye bread notes in the Bulliet 12 year. It starts out sweet, and then it goes more oak forward. I just wish it was higher proof.
Bought the bulleit 12 year rye a few weeks ago. My liquor store got it early and I was excited. After having their regular it is a tad better but they obviously watered it down and it taste like a much younger rye. I would never buy it again for 60.
It would be interesting if someone could compare the old Bulleit 12 Rye with the new one, because the old one got people very excited, but it was a limited release and not everyone got the chance to try it.
I love the hard truth sweet mash rye. I find it to be Apple pie tasting, mmmmmm.
Off the rails baby!❤
Heck Yeah I'm gonna buy some orange sherbet next time I go to the sto
I preferred the lime sherbet
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
How does that bulliet 12 match up to michters Sib? If you could only buy 1?
The Old Potrero sounds decent
There are some 8yr single barrel Old Potrero for under $70.
Old Protrero 700 Ml , shrinking bottle .
Disagree on the Bulleit - always love the content
I’m going the be the guy that has the unpopular opinion here…. I’ve tried multiple Old Potrero’s and they have all been awful. Generally speaking when I hear “unique” as a descriptor I find it’s just simply not good whiskey. If I want something different I’ll grab some funky rum. Of course this is just MHO and certainly didn’t come here to offend anyone, but I’m sure I’m not the only person that feels this way. Enjoyed the review as always, cheers!
Oh I agree. I mentioned it's not for everyone. Unique can be too different for some people. I get it.
I was hoping you’d say the B12R was a M10R killer 😂. No such luck. Thanks Jason! It’s a skip for me. I trust your palate. I knew the price was too good to be true!
Yeah I thought of comparing it but needed to taste it first. Wasn't that close
Please Sir tell me where I can purchase one of those awesome Turkey hats you wear? Thank you
Was at the distillery
Ok, but is the 12 year rye by bullet worth the extra money compared to their regular rye?
Not according to this review. But it was a fresh pour. I'll test it more to see if it gets sweeter.
The real question I have is why the American Single Malt commission only pushes a barley malt for their ASM single malt designation when malting is just a process and you can make malted bourbon that is um a single malt. Why accept Scotland's definition?
