Thank you for making this, I suggested it under you kknd 1 video. Even if it's a bit harsh I liked the game quite much and revisit it from time to time.
Had a nostalgia rush today, and decided to look for game reviews from my childhood, happened to find your review of kknd 1, and I liked your video, it was entertaining! A couple of hours later the itch for more nostalgia came back, so i searched for kknd 2 this time on youtube, oh great, there is!... from you... uploaded 2 days ago?! Most excellent timing, subbed, ahah.
I had completely forgotten about this game. I used to olay it with my dad all the time and as an Aussie I cant believe I never knew it was made in Australia. Very cool. Awesome video
Thank you! There are quite a few very cool games made in Australia that I played and enjoyed as a kid, though some are a bit more difficult to track down.
It's impressive how recent this video is, I'm also riding a wave of nostalgia for KKND 2. I played it on PS One originally and couldn't understand English one bit, so all the lore went over my head. Now, despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of post-apocalyptic settings, I really like the origins of the factions and all the finer details. The writing is not great outside of the premise and has that humorous vibe to it but I guess that was the style at the time.
When I was younger I just didn't pay attention to the story in any game, it was all about the gameplay. Honestly, I liked the narrative elements of the first game a bit more. I also found KKND 1 funnier.
This was my Introduction to the franchise and I had fun with it but I mainly played as rthe Survivors and Series 9 because I prefer tech factions to organic, or magic factions in games.
Someone talking about KKND in 2025. Certainly not a thing I had expected. Solid video aswell. And it may be nostalgia but I still really like this game even playing it today. Also something a slight oversight by the developers on KKND 1 since I went back to watch your video on it: Your starting units intended to defend yourself against early enemy attacks are in some missions a bit too strong for the enemy to effectively repel. Meaning you can attakc the enemy early on locate one of their oil wells and take it. (They may cheat with it but taking one away still lowers their capabilities) So you can sit right next to them like a parasite they can't get rid of and kill them that way. It is in quite often actually easier than building your base at the intended position. Similarly you can also turtle hard in the final missions in KKND 2 and just suicide run your flying units (but not the bombers, they`re not that good for this) to their oil fields or base cutting off their income and wrecking their bunched up armies with your crashing flyers.
Thank you so much! Even without nostalgia being a factor there are some positives to this game. Interesting observation about the units in KKND 1 and now thinking about it, yeah, you're right. You can use those starting units to rush the AI, however you are still going to have to be careful around turrets. Using an air force to wipe the oil fields or to cause damage to a base requires more patience then I can muster. Building aircraft, both fighters and bombers, is a terrifyingly slow process.
I remember playing the final mission of survivors against series 9. By the time you've got your economy going the AI has completely clogged their base up with units. I ended up suiciding a maxxed out army of aircraft into their base. Mind you not for the damage their bombs do, but their damage on impact when crashing down.
That mission in particular was an absolute slog. What's funny is that sometimes airplanes deal more damage upon impacting units then with their bombs. The bombers can be so incredibly imprecise! Every time I used them I felt like half the load was dropped way to early.
I admit I have a soft spot for this one and I invested a good amount of time in the skirmish mode and unit editor years and years ago. I think I played a few missions with the Survivors. I came back to it last year and played through maybe half of the Series 9 campaign. There were some really time-consuming, annoying missions in there. Especially the one with the island base of the Evolved with its heavily defended south entrance. It could be seen a few times during the review. Eventually I just resorted to making air landings and I suspect that most people beat it like that. Even so it was still a slog of slowly pushing through defenses and an incredible amount of seemingly infinite replacement units.
After playing KKND 1 I was expecting that the highlight of the second game would be the campaign but no I enjoyed the skirmish more. Hahaha, I know the mission you're referring to, that's what I called "the stronghold", it's the big Evolved base. I also used a lot of aircraft and then attacked from 2 sides. That is a particularly difficult mission.
I remember not being able to beat the human base, maybe it was cause i took my time too much but all the final strongholds in the game end up being just CLUTTERD with their units, and with the pathfinding in the game, i also had difficulty getting my troops over there but the human base when i was the evolved was like a NIGHTMARE. Every inch was trying to take the next trench and i just gave up eventually since i beat the 2 other campaigns already Also some of the missions where you have to get to the base were just honestly brutal sometimes, especially if you didnt know the path your suppose to take. I still like the game overall , while i agree the story is bare bones basic but i feel like you should have at least made a mention of your handlers in the Information screens, since i feel theres arguably where some of the more personality shows up. They arent much but they are some of the only charachters you get to interact with.
That human stronghold is extremely difficult to destroy if you don't rush it, because in reality there are 3 bases on that map, 2 are oil extraction bases and then there's the base where the AI has all the building. If you don't know this information, which you can't know without playing the level a couple of times, and quickly attack the oil bases, it's close to impossible to outspend and outmaneuver the AI. Unfortunately, that's just how all the map where you don't have a base work. You start off not knowing the map, having multiple direction you can take but in reality there is a single, intended, path you should take. I was quite frustrated with those level. I did consider talking about the 7 (or 8 if you count the second face of the mutant lady) characters however I didn't really find them that interesting. All 3 of the heads of the factions are played a bit to straight and 2 of the second in command, the survivor guy and the series 9 robot, are somewhat similar both being anxious, with some fixation, trucks and being overworked, plus their jokes didn't really land with me. The only character that I found... ok, was the mutant lady that had another face on her face, but even there mutant woman is played straight with the second face being the comic relief. And then there's not HAL 9000. I kind of criticized almost every aspect of the game so going at it about the characters as well felt a bit too much. Plus, there are bigger issues then a weak story or unimpressive characters. I really wanted to love this game, as it has so many things I like, but KKND 2's magic didn't work on me.
UUUU that's nice! While GOG is great for keeping old games functional on newer operating systems, having the physical boxes (maybe some paper manuals and other goodies) is just great!
warzone 2100 was post apocalyptic, earth 2150 sort of too. basically first apocalypse happened after 2140 and second after 2150 so earth 2160 was also post apocalyptic. c&c had that space poop growing all over earth so it was sort of apocalypse too
I meant to say nuclear post-apocalyptic, however I forgot the nuclear. lol Interesting, I didn't know the Earth 2140/50/60 games were post apocalyptic.
@@GamesfromthePast-Reviews well basically after 2140 atomics were used in UK erasing it from existence and earth went to unstable orbit. so 2150/2160 are post apocalyptic. 2140 is pre-apocalyptic. i guess in 2150 it was not wider wipe out of civilization. only some parts were wiped out.
@@jebise1126 This is very interesting, thank you. I love the post-apocalyptical theme so this is a bigger incentive for me check out these games... at some point. lol

Sadly there's no battle royal mode, but the game can somewhat look like minecraft with a lower resolution.
