I do like the concept. Weight would likely be unavoidable based upon it having 2 screens. But at the price, perhaps not and with Acemagic not having a stellar recent reputation, wavering would automatically come as standard when holding the credit card.
It’s clear the Ace Magic X1 dual-screen laptop has some bold claims, but honestly, they miss the mark where it matters most-those displays. Sure, the functionality is neat, and the productivity potential is obvious, but using subpar screens with poor brightness and oversized bezels feels like a missed opportunity, especially for something selling its two-screen setup as a feature. This could have been a game-changer if they prioritized a better visual experience. When the very feature you're promoting is held back by outdated tech, it's hard to recommend it without hesitation-especially at that price point!
With better displays and non-soldered RAM, I think that this would have been a far stronger laptop. Maybe it's just too "low end" in that regard (ex: dual mini-LEDs that are bright or even dual-OLED would have worked far better). Same with glass on the display - I would argue for glass touchscreens.
Why didn't they simply set the rotation axes on the horizontal top edge of the screen!?! It would have been a foldable reverse screen, and view angle would have been nice for both side viewer... it was so obvious, too bad!
The concept is good (though a vertical fold makes more sense in a laptop, and those screens are way too short and wide to make sense side-by-side when the controls can't be centered)... But they price it at a premium, and then every aspects of it comes out looking cheap. Cheap displays, cheap audio, cheap processor, cheap keyboard, cheap hinges. It feels like every expense was spared. The only place they splurged is the gold plate for their pretentious steve jobs quote. It would make sense at like half the price, but anybody buying a $1300 machine is going to expect more. Also there's no justification for soldering in the ram on this, especially with only 16GB. Well, the GPD version of the dual screen design just opened pre-orders, and just from the specs it looks like they blew this out of the water. The lowest spec version with 16GB Ram and an 8840u processor actually comes out cheaper than acemagic's, while sporting twin 2880x1800 OLED touchscreens and a lot more connectivity, though the ones with more memory and new processors get much more expensive. Looking forward to actual reviews... Edit: looks like the price got cut from $1300 to 900 within the first month. lol
@@HunterTracks Do the bezels cut into the 1080p displays? Are you only getting like 1873 pixels wide instead of 1920? Nope, therefore your argument makes no sense.
I've tried Acemagic's mini PC before, and it was great. Now I'm eyeing the X1 for my office needs.
Looking forward to watch you reviewing GPD DUO :-) :-) .
It's really amazing.... thank u for sharing so much information for this laptop

: I've had good experiences with Acemagic's mini PC. This X1 looks pretty good too.

Phawx when will you go back to your roots and talk about the GPD DUO??? Love your channel btw

I think you typo'd the title? Should be X1, no?
People have been looking at this for years, just really hard to pull off in a convincing way...
If the monitor was hotswappable, it was going to be a great device
Too bad it's got bad screens. Two good screens with moderate specs sounds like a pretty good developer setup.
We remember the smach z incident

that bezel shouldn't exist in 2024
Wah. The screen real estate is the selling point. Stick with your pretty little MacBook.
@@carlosdominguez3108Exactly, the screen real estate that's being actively consumed by the bezels.

@@carlosdominguez3108 A bigger diagonal = more screen = easier to see things on the screen. It's really not that complicated.
Duo coming soonish.
Zenbook?
Yea, the OLEDs on that alone has me looking forward to it
@@JustRandomCommentor GPD Duo, I assume. The latest Zenbook Duo looks great though.
@@ThePhawx Yeah oled is game changer in display tech. I hope windows update their text render tech to support various type of oled array.
It the keyboard lighted?
Bad gimmick and pretty bad design quality and displays, looks like laptop from 2014...way better to get a good laptop and a good external display
ANyway, look at the bright side, it's an innovative design.
Nah, sorry. Not my type of device tbh.
