My husband paints cars. He said, once you tape off, what's Not to be painted, that's not much yellow to cover. Get a spray paint gun, gallon of car paint, spray paint bus yourself. It shouldn't need much prepping unless rusted!? He thinks that'd be the cheapest way to go. ❤
I live in the middle of some tribes here, and I know the sovereign nation thing pretty good. I was their Findian. For years and allowed into a lot of meetings that no one else could attend. I did my masters paper working with the tribe here, school district, and extension service. It was very interesting. and my daughter is part Kiowa her great grandmother was from Texas. We have even located a picture of her when she was about 12 or 13 when she got adopted by a family.
As a non-American Indian, I would love it if you would take some time, once a week or month, to teach us more about your tribe and any others in your area. In school, most tribes were lumped together and very little taught. My husband’s great grandmother was Cherokee from western NC. His grandmother died in childbirth at the age of 32, so much of his family history was lost. I would love to know more about the people, their customs and lifestyle and how they were displaced through the arrival of Europeans. I know some of the “trail of tears” story, but want to hear an account by someone from the Cherokee prospective.
@@WalkerFarmFamI also enjoy seeing your tribe's historic sites and learning a few words along the way. I've done a lot of research on my own heritage all the way back to the 1600's and find other people's heritage just as interesting and fun to learn.
Id love to hear this also. My Mother was part Cherokee. We were separated from her in younger yrs. So, once we were grown, failed to ask heavy questions and lost her unexpectedly.
The wrap will probably be $8,000.00 to $12,000.00 for a complete wrap. Good luck with getting everything done and turning it into an RV. Make sure you put a bathroom in it, because if you were to sell it, that would help the value and the ones that buy it want have the expense of putting one in. Gary, I know you do research on a lot of things, so have fun looking at some conversations before you start. You and Cassie need to talk and decide what all you want in the RV. RV’s are a lot of fun and you save a lot in not renting hotels. We have been blessed in our lifetime to be donated 5 RV’s and a really nice fifth wheel camper. These have all been used for Ministry as we have travel to many states to have Chapels at truck stops for drivers to attend. There were times we just parked at the truck stop ( a lot of truck stops have RV dumps, water to refill our tanks and propane) where we would have meetings with local Pastors and men that was interested in helping to man the Chapels. We also went to quite a few State Parks. 🙏 Praying everything works out for you all and you get great deals on all of the different things you do to the bus to make it into what your needs are. One more thing, we painted a couple of our RV’s and had decals made to put on them, with our ministry name, logo, phone number, and website. Some people would become sponsors of different things we had done. That helped us a lot.
Totem museum is definitely worth a revisit with the kiddos. Be sure to bring us along-we have nothing like that in the Mid-South. Hope you can get the bus converted to whatever you wish.
At 60+ I still don't understand that.there are multiple sayings like that that don't make sense to me. I guess my brain works differently than those who like the sayings.
I am currently converting a step van (bread truck-fedex type). I am going to make it like a mini apartment basically. Here in MN you have to have certain things in it to get an RV plate. Toilet, cooking source, running water, etc. I am hoping to travel to OK when I get it done.
Gary and Cassie please do not get a cheap paint job. I was in the automotive paint and body business for over 30 years and some brands of paint will fade in 6 months to a year. Please check the expected life of the paint. Love both of your channels and thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤
Thank you Gary for showing us the Giant Totem Pole. I just love the items on the pole. So beautiful. The stickers would be really nice on the bus. Have a wonderful evening. God Bless.
Owasso guy here,I have lived in my hometown my whole life and have never seen that before, thank you! Now the BLUE WHALE I swam their all the time, in the 60s we were told to watch for water moccasins! Times are not the same!!
As far as painting the bus, I dont think it will be as much as vinyl. Keeping her Wild & Isaac Turner are channels that have painted many busses. I would check with them. I like the idea of a combination of paint with maybe a big stripe of stickers.
Love info about our native heritage. I have Choctaw roots. My late cousin took us to a wonderful museum and re-created lodge and village. It was being updated. Lots of history and wonderful information. ❤
Shelby was supposed to be Cassie's dog but it looks look she is your dog. She is a special farm dog for sure. Shelby is going to start meowing and mooing if she keeps eating cat food and range cubes 😂
I think the Vo-Tech automotive class is the best idea on getting bus painted. Give the kids in the class a good project to work on and gain experience on auto body painting. Thanks for showing us the totem pole museum. Love learning about history of different cultures and places.
People have used spray on bedliner on converted vans and buses. They had it applied and it looks great and is also a great protection against scratches etc.
Go with the stickers that way we all can be a part of your makeover,,,and the kiddos will have a blast stickering that whole bus,,, but then again 🤔 that's going to be a very long process they may get bored not even a quarter of the way through 😅😅😅
They make a roll on bed liner in several colors ..don't have to worry about scratch paint..my friend did his hunting truck 8 years ago still looks good and prevents rust..just rough up surface paint with sandpaper then clean and dry before applying..works great..friend has 4 colors 😀 😉 on his truck
I'm part of the Potawatomi tribe in Shawnee Oklahoma. There is an interesting museum & a bald eagle aviary that is neat to visit. Im also part Cherokee. I can't wait to learn more about my family connection to the Cherokee tribe.
Gary & Cassie to honest I have heard that the wrap would fade within a short period of time and being in the sun it will bubble up.....my opinion I would paint the bus turquoise and white 💙
I think the stickers on the bus could be a job in-itself, and may end up looking a bit busy.... depending on the application, :) The wrap alone sounds very nice, though, as the school bus turned out so great. Enjoyed the Totum Tour, etc.
I'd suggest painting instead of the stickers because unless they are specially coated afterward they will maybe start peeling due to weather and that may look kinda bad.❤❤❤❤❤I enjoyed the registration class today lol!! I wonder if all states are the same.
Ah, Gary… you were so impressed by our Uhaul truck conversion (we parked in front of the ticket booth (?) at last years Okie Homesteading Expo. This year we need to camp in your yard and help with the bus conversion!!!
Paint for less than $200. 10 gallons red paint and some big paint brushes. Then let kids put hand prints all over it in different colors. Have fun which ever way you do it. Looks like a great fun project.
I just read a book written by a registered Cherokee woman who grew up in Miami, OK (she now lives in Rhode Island.) It was inspired by a true crime case out of Miami, 2 missing Cherokee girls ... a cold case. She wants to spark interest, to reignite the investigation. The story was fictional, set in Picher, 2008... but she included Cherokee history, the relationship with the BIA (Bureau of Indian Affairs), continuing political issues, etc. “Blood Sisters” by Vanessa Lillie. (Her Cherokee family is Walker :) I plan to read her other books.
@@WalkerFarmFam It probably is... in the book the town had been destroyed by mining, the land was in danger of collapsing, and the indigenous people had not and were not being compensated.
The sticker idea is cute.....but once it's rained on for a while.....they start peeling off. You would need to have to have it top coated with polyurethane
When you spend so much at TSC or reach a certain amount $, they give you $10. I love it, I always have a free pet wash or a day rental for a trailer, I’ve never used that though, we have trailers.
Wanted to say Hi and glad to see you’re all doing well. Really enjoyed seeing the totem pole Park on your video today. Also, loved seeing animals today and how energetic the dogs are. It’s so fun to watch them. As for the bus, I think you should go with the sticker idea because it does involve asked your subscribers, the kids, and you and Cassie, and I think it would be a lot of fun! I’ll have to see if I have any stickers around the house to send you. Have a great night. Really enjoyed your video today. God bless.❤😊
Great Totem pole. The Bus is going to be a great camper, no matter what you do. You got a Lot done in one day, Gary. The Bus makeover will be a fun project. 💞✌️💞
Paper stickers may wash off with the first rain. 😮. I bet vinyl ones would work great. Over time it could be a high maintenance job! Love your family and channels!! God Bless!
I estimate the cost of wrapping the bus will be 3 to 4 thousand dollars. Sounds like a neat idea. I need to make a trip to the totem pole park. Sounds interesting.
Sticker bomb!!! But I like the idea someone mentioned of letting school kids paint the bus, too! How about a design that incorporates both? I have stickers I would send!! 💜
I was and still to some extent am a picky eater. I hated chili until I was in high school. Just like a lot of other dishes, everyone makes it differently and it just takes a delicious smell and the right version to convert us picky eaters. I have come to the conclusion that I disllike chili powder. I put crushed red peppers in mine for the "heat" and about 15 years ago started adding green chilis to mine, but still think chili powder is yuck.
Gary that sounds promising to register your Bus in your name once you get the title in your name you can do your conversion and paint the bus, then you can get the title converted to an RV❤
Since the title process is 2-step through the state, are you required to get a CDL to satisfy the initial step BEFORE you retitle it as a camper? Good luck with meeting all of the requirements! You have lots of good family time to look forward to as you travel in OK and cross-country!
I wonder what it would cost just to paint the bus? And see if that and a custom logo hand painted or a vinyl strip logo would be. Good luck Gary. Love you all ❤
I especially Loved this video!! Thank you Gary for stopping to view the sites. My brother lives in Foyil. We visited these sites when I was out there several years ago to visit. I'm in Midland South Carolina. About 18 hours from Foyil.
As a bus driver for 36 years, school bus and coach/tour bus batteries last only so long and with busses it's less time. That one bad battery is probably draining the 3rd as you thought. But they may all he weak.i would suggest putting solar panels on the roof for the rv electric needs but you probably have enough solar battery packs you gotten to review so you may nit need it. If you plan on using it in cooler weather they make heaters that run off of the diesel in the tank that fuels the vehicle. You could put in bunks for the kids and a separate bedroom in the back for you and Cassie! You have a lot of room under the bus for water tanks and Grey water tanks. You may as well put in a toilet kitchen sink and shower so youcan park anywhere and not have to rely on finding a campsite or rv park and when you sell it you would a lot more for it. If you wrap it in vinyl make it generic for resale. Love the sticker idea but I would think you would have to put a protective layer over them to make them last.
A top notch professional vinyl wrap job may cost you close to what you paid for the entire bus, probably $10K + (full size SUVs cost $3200-$7000 to wrap) - a good paint job may be more budget friendly - good luck with your skoolie project! 💪
In my opinion, you wouldn't be able to get enough stickers to cover the bus, where it would need to be covered. Bid the paint and additional wraps from other shops and toss the coin, love the videos!
Love the channel intro. If you would ever need help with the bus conversion you could always asm Kent from speed bump garage to help out. That was me who said the backup light wasn’t working in the last video. I think ransom will be a great macanic one day.
Wow! Never heard of a sticker bomb vehicle, might be fun for y’all. Ranger way to take one for the team 👊🏻. Glad you’re able to retitle and everything, will be neat watching your progress. Love and prayers 😇💜
When I was a kid in the 1970s, there was a TV show called "The Partridge Family" about a family of singers who travelled in a school bus, which had a unique geometric paint job. If you decide not to sticker-bomb the bus, then you can paint it yourselves, in a manner similar to The Partridge Family. Some masking tape, brushes, and small foam rollers - combined with patience and humor - are all that you would need to paint it as a family project. If you don't like how the bus turns out, then go ahead and cover it with stickers.
Gary check with companies such as coke, monster, ect to see if they'll sponsor a wrap on the bus! Sticker bomb would look cool. Kinda would be like The Patridge Family!😊
Cassie & Gary, I don’t think the sticker idea for the bus is a good idea, because of the hot weather you have in Oaklahoma. The stickers will probably peel off and get gummy after baking in the sun. A good paint job and possibly decals would be nice.
wrap is way to expensive, stickers sounds fun but i think it would be to busy, painting it think would be a good idea and maybe have the kids each pick a spot and add their touch to it with a art project or as some one else suggested have the art classes at school paint it . something to think about .
Hello Cassie and Gary, I am thinking painting the bus is better than wrapping the bus. Not that I know much about wrapping. Thank you for todays video. we all learnt something new, like the totem pole, that is a wonderful totem pole and I look forward to a better look at it all! I am a Canadian indigenous person. We don't have an Indigenous vehicle department. We have to use the government that all Canadians use. We did buy a new van in 1999 and converted it to a camper van and we drove to New York city in 2001 two months befor 9/11. It was a terrific vacation. Thank you for bringing back the memory🤗🤗💞💞💙💙🙏
I love the sticker bomb idea but my concern is.... how do you protect the stickers when it rains? The schoolie is going to be so much fun seeing it come together.
Ok lets set this straight… The “governement” didn’t deny you… in fact the state explained how to do it… so quit whining about that. Lol
The tribal government did.. tribes are sovereign nations with their own governments. The tax / tag commission is part of the government.
Every state is different with registration and insurance. Oregon is lenient. Isaac Turner converted several buses on his RUclips channel.
My husband paints cars. He said, once you tape off, what's Not to be painted, that's not much yellow to cover.

yes and could even still do the sticker thing on the back of bus and paint sides and front

That is very considerate of Gary to make low carb food to support Cassie. You and Cassie do a lot to help the school.
Gary check online to see what companies will pay you to advertise for them. They also will pay for the wrap job.
I don’t watch each and every homestead, but I sure love how you support each other by wearing their logo clothing.
Maybe try a vocational school and see if they have a automotive class that would be willing to paint it.
That's a great idea! It would save you guys some money too.

If you do the sticker project, you will need to clear coat the finish to protect the finish. And it will last a lot longer.
People have used spray on bedliner on converted vans and buses. They had it applied and it looks great and is also a great protection against scratches etc.

A top notch professional vinyl wrap job may cost you close to what you paid for the entire bus, probably $10K + (full size SUVs cost $3200-$7000 to wrap) - a good paint job may be more budget friendly - good luck with your skoolie project! 💪
❤ You guys
In my opinion, you wouldn't be able to get enough stickers to cover the bus, where it would need to be covered. Bid the paint and additional wraps from other shops and toss the coin, love the videos!
I’ll get some paint bids
I've been wondering.... What do you do with all those bus seats!! ???
About to go on Craigslist or marketplace
Love the channel intro. If you would ever need help with the bus conversion you could always asm Kent from speed bump garage to help out. That was me who said the backup light wasn’t working in the last video. I think ransom will be a great macanic one day.
👍🏼👍🏼
Wow! Never heard of a sticker bomb vehicle, might be fun for y’all. Ranger way to take one for the team 👊🏻. Glad you’re able to retitle and everything, will be neat watching your progress. Love and prayers 😇💜
I think it may cost around $12,000.00 just a guess.
Thank for showing us the totem pole . Have a blessed day stay safe
Gary, have you considered checking with the Vinyl shops to see if they have spraps (trash) that might be free and give away? Add to the sticker theme.
Tractor supplie covers most of the country..I've delivered to their warehouses all over..
Camo is the best color, God Bless y'all. John V. Michigan. 🙏🇺🇸
wrap is way to expensive, stickers sounds fun but i think it would be to busy, painting it think would be a good idea and maybe have the kids each pick a spot and add their touch to it with a art project or as some one else suggested have the art classes at school paint it . something to think about .
Say probably two to $3000 to wrap the bus and have something put on it. totem pole is really awesome.
Boy, I was way off on the wrap price !! I do like the sticker bomb effect though. That's cool !! ❤😊😊
Stickers, I don't have any but there are many bee keepers in your area that you can get stickers from.
I love the sticker bomb idea but my concern is.... how do you protect the stickers when it rains? The schoolie is going to be so much fun seeing it come together.
Yes the paint will be more.. If prepared and painted correctly.
That’s my thought too
Absolutely enjoyed the tour of the totem pole. 😊 Do you really think it will be 10,000 to paint the bus? Wow! Prayers for a better solution. 🙏❤️
Just need a bid. I know I could do it myself much cheaper but the quality won’t be great
