- I was shocked with my new annual tax notice that my property taxes are going up over five hundred dollars every year after i built my hay barn. The government is out of control with taxing and it really is hurting farmers.. We also attend the state archery competition and try to keep up with the kids.. Thanks for watching and God Bless!

Farmers ain't the only ones paying high property taxes. Unless you're a millionaire on a mansion with money to burn EVERYONE else pays higher taxes. Rich folks the only ones off the hook. Stop voting for those who only shmooze to please the rich folks. They will never work to help the rest of hard working Americans. Unless you make over $250K a year, they're just empty promises.
They aren't expecting you to do the math, Gary. It's past time for all of us to start voting for people that aren't so willing to dig so deeply into our pockets.

It’s not only farmers. Our home was revalued to double what it was so guess how much our taxes went up. Seniors can’t afford double property taxes 😖
Grieve your taxes through the assessor. I'm a senior as well and do this every year, if you don't grieve they will raise your taxes.
We live in wagoner County and our small home doubled in tax and we have had no improvements in the last year.
They hit Dutch a few weeks ago. Even measured his sheds!! It's getting out of hand.Great job kids!!!

@lovespurpleflowers I have a grandson who made me a sitting area outside, and planted me some flowers. He also placed birdfeeders up for me. On a nice day. I can walk out my apt. Door over to my sitting area. I take my O2 and inhalers. It can be pretty outside. Selling my farm house and land to move to town was hard. But, I'm safer. I'm happy for families like these good people; the Walkers. ❤️

You have to go to the county assessor's office and fill out a protest form, you might be able to do it online if they have an interactive website. Since it is farmland you should get farm and or ag discounts and homestead discounts.
They want to control all farmers and homesteads 😢 control the food..control the people 😢

That is ridiculous. Why dont they tax the very rich and these corporations who pay next to nothing. If you would be a corporate farm they would give you tax breaks. You should protest it.

Our county uses drones; they raised ours a lot based on “roofs”. We went in to ask why, and tell them most of those new “roofs” were movable shelters for pigs, goats, and rabbits. She snottily said it didn’t matter!
Funny thing, when we refinanced our house and property 3 years ago, that assessor stated that no outbuildings had any affect on valuation (because they may or may not be a positive). I realize there is a difference between market value and taxable value, but counting movable shelters is beyond ridiculous. Not to mention that you already paid tax several times to build your barn (tax on the materials, labor?, building permit…). I am so over it.
My tax chargers me $1300 every year for a shed that was here before I bought my 1970 mobile home..smh. anything for the $ . Take care

Unfortunately when they're assessing the property its not whether a structure has walls or doors, its whether it has a roof. If there's a roof, it will be taxed. But I would still protest how much its assessed for because its not an enclosed structure.
I agree in New Mexico it has to be an enclosed structure. I don't think it can be that different where you are at.
My assessment went up 24% and I had absolutely NO improvements. I’m on a fixed income and it’s ridiculous.

Look how much goes to the schools! I always vote for schools because it holds the value of your home but I’m glad I’m not raising children now a days. I’m 67 and have to save $400. Mo out of my ssi to just pay the property taxes for 6mos. Vote vote vote

Contest them every year. Don't let them increase more than state posted percentage.
My sister was forced to put a new septic system in by the county and then they raised her taxes for the improvement! She also has to pay $400 year to have it examined every year! And pay the county a fee to submit her inspection! Our government is out of reach!!! She called the county and forced them to come out to reevaluate

That calf is gorgeous. My county kept dropping the value of my homestead to 45K, on the newest one, now they went back up to 77K, and yes the tax they charged went high too! (Minnesota is a demonic state!) Government overreach.

In my county, property taxes have increased 40% this year--and homeowner's insurance increased 50%. I am retired, so my income has NOT increased--I am going to have to sell my home as I can no longer keep up with the costs of home ownership.
Key word “fair”. Check online for comparable nearby properties. What type of increase did others get. My concern is, how “exactly” are the taxes being spent. Lastly, there may be a seat for you (in your spare time)!!

They always come unannounced. We added a wooden fence for our dogs and raised ours. It's crazy. Kids did a great job.

Fight it at tax accessors office
I live in an apartment in Winnipeg, Manitoba. A 74 year old senior. Not a fancy place by any means, adequate and I’m grateful to God for a roof over my head. Rent increase for this year $60 a month. So hard to find all that at one go. Landlord allowed by law 2 1/2 percent. Asked for 4 1/2 percent znd board approved it. We will be living in tents in the park before long. Theft for sure
I can't afford to live in the US . At 65, I lived in Kenya on the beach. I miss my family but its all I can afford

My property has been in our family trust since the 70’s. Last year the decision was made to break the trust and sell the majority of the property, 900 acres. My little acreage 5 acres, the taxes then increased 450%!! I did call, and the county didn’t realize it was just a exchange between family members, since my last name is different. Now I have to go to the land assessors meeting and request that they change it back to what it was prior. - 450% increase! That is totally wrong.

Go to County Assessors office and see if you can get lowered due to farm exemption, Homestead etc
Appeal it. It won't cost you any more than time. Quite often a reduction is awarded simply to reduce the workload
I live on Long Island in New York. I own a two story house built in 1940 with a 1 car detached garage and my property is 40 x 100. My property taxes with a senior citizen discount are over $14000 per year. I’m sorry the assessor got you.

My late wife and I built a house in a new development in 2006 and I've objected to the property value for tax purposes every time it has changed except this past year. I was successful in getting a lower value every time also. You probably can find the value of other similar properties in your immediate area and see how much their property value for tax purposes was raised. Before this year I was dealing with neighbors whose property tax went up or down in ways the county could not rationally explain. It takes time but it's worth a shot.

This video was jam packed with so much awesomeness! But the best parts are the kids thriving! Mazzy is so good at archery already! Keep getting better kids it's a skill you can use in the future! It's fun it's good if you needed to launch ropes into trees for building shelters and many other things! I'm glad they all can enjoy archery, it's something Mazzy can do with her brothers which can be hard to find at their ages!
Ýes! Protest it! There should be instructions on your tax letter, that tell you how to protest. Or go to their website and find the Protest instructions!!
We just got a letter also. Never seen anyone here either. Ours went up over $100.
Most people I know who have protested it have been able to get it reduced some. But we are in a different state. Praying for wisdom 🙏

I just had my property taxes go up $1220.00 a year without any improvements. I'm only on 2 acres in Grant county, Moses Lake, Washington.

I hear you! Ours have been raising each year as well to the tune of almost 8 times the value of the property when purchased. It's wild. We live in the PNW and trust me, I feel the pain just as everyone else. So sorry it happens everywhere it seems. We struggle to build something and then we are taxed right out of it. It's a crime! So sorry, I'm getting ready to pay ours soon and it is painful to say the least.

I know with our church bus the church men built an area in the back of the bus to secure the kids equipment in place for travel so they don't have it in or under their seats. A much more comfortable trip for everyone. Not sure what your options are. Works for traveling for any sports events & church camp trips.
As far as the barn goes maybe meet with them to see what loop holes there might be & what exactly did they look for.

annieoakley262, when I buy farm fresh eggs, it's always a delight to see double yolkers ❤. I got three double yolkers in one dozen of fresh farm eggs I purchased at a farmers market ☺️. Love it! Funny how you don't find double yolkers in grocery stores. As a child, I peeled a banana and ate it, and it was two bananas in one! I haven't seen a double banana since!

One of my good friends was a National Champion Archer. Absolutely amazing to watch. And it takes a lot of strength too. Love watching.
You find comparable properties like yours and compare their taxes to yours. If it's not comparable that's what you show them with satellite pics or tax info.
We had a hen a couple years ago that laid extra large eggs right from the beginning, when the others were laying small or very small eggs. It was as big as the turkey eggs. Ouch.
The barn isn't a full barn. It's a roof with 2 walls. I don't blame you for wanting to dispute that raise.

If you ever get back to Petals of the past in Alabama, you need to catch up with Catherine from G&G farm. Her and her husband Tony have built an Archery range on their farm. The kids would love it. I hear you about taxes. All our rates used to be lumped together, then about 10 years ago the council separated the water rates into a separate entity. Over the course of 2 years they snuck up the prices of each and now we pay double what we used to pay. Not impressed.

I had to protest a tax increase in Cherokee County. The ladies at the Assessors office walked me through the process. If I remember correctly, I just had to write a letter explaining why there shouldn't have been an increase. I think you're in Mayes County and I'd think they'd do the same thing. My protest was successful so, I think it's always worth trying. The worst outcome is them saying no. You might be surprised though. Your increase sounds a little excessive but it probably depends on when the last one was. God Bless!

The same thing happened to Dutch on keeping it Dutch. You need to protest this to at least get the price cut in half for taxes.
In Illinois the assessed value is 1/3 if retail value. So a $25,000 barn should only add $8,333 to your assessed value, or whatever percentage your county charges. So check to see how much your assessment went up. If more than the calculation above then you can argue. The total valuation should only change fir the barn and nothing else because nothing else changed and is another year older. Good luck!!

In Colorado the ruling that kept our property taxes under control was voted out so that businesses would be taxed at a higher rate. Property values increased, and a new assessment was done on those values. Our property taxes went up 30% this year! Without any improvements!!! So 3% with having an improvement made doesn't sound bad to me.

We had to put a new roof on our house or they were going to not renue our warranty , well we got a new roof so our warranty was rented, I'm sure to do a new warranty would cost allot more-i think they were hoping to do that

I’m so sorry, about the taxes, Gary. My daughter’s home was reassessed school taxes, second year in a row. This is a nice suburb in Columbus area, in a very nice home that has not changed. But, some homes are going up around them. Well, (are you sitting down?)their SCHOOL taxes went UP another $40,000/yr. We are in a small farm community near by, and they are building ALL AROUND us. Yep, ours are starting to creep up, and we’re holding our breadths about the election. What is going on in this country?
Just know, you did the right thing in keeping up improvements on your property. That’s what America is about. Forging ahead and protecting your property. God has given us dominion over His creation, and I thank Him all the time, for conscientious, Christian farmers who keep doing the right thing, despite the obstacles. Its awful knowing we will never truly own our property. Having to pay taxes that just keep going up every year in order to keep your property is ridiculous!!. I live in Cincinnati Ohio and my taxes went up $500.00 a yr on a 1200 sqft house and 1/4th acre lot. Its frustrating.
