I know this is an older video, but thanks again for the down-to-earth review of your experiences. Getting set to come here in Jan on SOS and still contemplating what to do. Not sure if I want to spend an hour each way to see a small Mayan ruin. Also, the real hidden value in this video is to see and know that ship excursions, like barefoot beach, are basically in the same place Tropicante.
Just watched this video sequence. We went to Tropicante in May 2017 and had a blast. Love it there!

Costa Maya has never been on my itinerary as I choose the ship and not the islands..LOL but Mardi Gras is "suppose" to go there March 2021 so im excited

So the Tropicante was not one of the Cruise excursions. You did this on your own? I'm going on a this cruise in July. I'd like to hang out at a beach. There is an excursion offered but it just said Becah club. does not specify which one.

Did you have to spend a certain amount on food and drinks to be able to use their beach area?
Did u pay to stay at tropicante resort? Or free to stay if u purchase any from this place? Did you book this ahead? Book at local? Or thru royal caribbean? Looks nice place
The tropicante is a little beach bar and you can call or email ahead and just reserve a spot on the beach by their little bar. You just just have to purchase food or drinks while you are there. No extra charge as long as you are eating and drinking at their site

How much was the Tropicante and did you book it online yourself or through Carnival ? Real nice beach
It is free to go. Just buy food or drinks. We emailed the owner Steve to reserve a spot, but you can just show up as well. It was a real relaxed inexpensive day.

We had a great day there. Only negative thing was a couple hours into our day, they put large group of people right in front of us on the beach which took away from our front row on the water, although the food & dtinks were very good, and reasonably priced. They also cleaned the seaweed close to the water. Costa Maya is known for having a lot of seaweed. All the beach areas on Mahuhual had bar & grill type places attached and all similarities. The crazy lobster is another good choice. We would go back again. Great for a mellow beach day.
Is there a way to make a reservation, or do you just show up and hope they have a spot for you?
We made a reservation, but you can just show up and hope there is availability.
My wife wants to know where you got your dress....ty
were happy to have you. maleria, street dogs, rabies, cleft lips. mostly gone from QR thanks to tourism. even middle class have ac now. none of that existed in the 70s. so tired of americans bashing other americans for ruining the "real" mexico. the real mexico they are talking about never existed. all i remember is no electricity, standing in line for rabies treatment and taking care of my maleria infested dad. hope more tourists come. youve improved the quality of life for a lot of people.
Hi Im going on the Dream in Dec was wanting to know how do I find how to reserve a place a tropican in Costa Maya
Love Costa Maya! I’ve been there twice, and I figured out on our second trip there to head into town and to the beach. We took the shuttle, but it looks like we may take a taxi next time, as it was a much better option. We hung out at Krazy Lobster which was similar to Tropicante, and was very nice. Always enjoy your vlogs, Sharon!

What is the cruise time from port of New Orleans to entrance of gulf of Mexico?
If you mean getting through the Mississippi river? It was a few hours. Not sure exactly because it was night but seemed like 5-6 hours.
I noticed you handed the driver US money... is that preferred?
They'll take US or local currency. Most tourists from Caribbean cruises will only have US currency.
Did tou have to reserve at Tropicante?

Your husband stated that at Tropicante it was good in the beginning and bad at the end. What happen to make it not so great overall?
Hi Maurice...halfway through the day, the staff took a large party of about 10 people, and lined up chairs for them right in front of us. They were very loud and disruptive. It was quite a turn off and we left earlier then planned because of it. Thanks for watching!!!
Wow sorry that happened me and my wife plan on going there because we saw you guys video. Seem like a nice chill spot to get food and drinks and enjoy a bit of beach time for a few hours.

How did you guys get alcohol on the ship?
Not sure what you mean? We purchase drinks on the ship and bring 2 bottles of wine onboard.
Were there restrictions against bringing alcohol aboard or did you pay extra ? I’m going on a cruise and I was curious because I thought you couldn’t bring any
@@Princesa101 it depends on the cruise line. Carnival you can bring 1 bottle of wine or champagne 750 ml size per adult on the ship at embarkation. What cruise line are you sailing?

@@avareemama yes, we pre purchased for our room from the fun shops before our cruise. It was waiting in our room when we boarded the ship.
Water looks nasty
Costa Maya is not known for the prettiest water. A lot of Seaweed.
