- This is what Pac-Man should have looked like on the 2600. This looks amazing and plays great. Video is running the rom on Stella Emulator with graphics settings to make it look like an old crt screen. This will have you playing for a long time.

Why didn't they make it like this instead of what we got back then?
Lazy Programmers :). The differance is night and day. The sound is top notch also. I could never play the original cause of the eating dot sound LOL.
I saw in a video that said Atari had a bunch of rules for games. There were also a lot of resource limitations.
Black backgrounds were reserved for space type games, 8KB cartridges weren't as available and the developer wanted to prioritize 2 player functionality. Fitting all of this into 4 kilobytes is difficult. There were not as many resources during the time of development compared to this port.
Lol yep to many rules I guess they did what they could do with what they had. I was super impressed with this version.@@eggysauce
When Atari came out with ms pacman, it was way better than pacman…..
Big Time Different Levels made it way cooler
The Atari 2600 Pac Man version I had really really really and I mean REALLY sucked!!! It was NOTHING like the arcade game!!!
I know I was there then too. It really really sucked. And yet it was weirdly addictive and you kept going back and playing it. It remains one of those mysteries we'll never understand lol.
