I appreciate you watching! Игры
I have just go my first batch of home brew games. It’s really amazing to think that this hobbie even exists. It’s so cool that people have such a passion to make games for these retro systems
It’s awesome to see this. I never knew that there were homebrews for the 2600. Some of my favorite 2600 games are homebrews!
Wow, the Wizard Of Wor, Scramble and Super Cobra conversions are pretty impressive as is the Galaga clone Galagon..
Yes, Champ Games has made some great ports on the 2600.
You've made a great selection. Not a single bad homebrew. Mappy is impressive. It's hard to choose, but I think my favorites are Thrust (the platinum edition has a cool intro music), Space Rocks and Juno First. I haven't played Hero 2 yet, but it would be a favorite for sure. It's like playing Hero for the first time, without knowing the paths, but harder.
I haven't actually played Thrust, but I will now! This list is subjective, and I'm sure that my choices will change over time. Thanks for watching, as always!
Draconian is my favorite by far. I'm going to get robotwar and ladybug arcade soon hopefully and the upcoming lode runner looks fantastic
Draconian is a great game. Ironically, I have the carts for Ladybug Arcade and RobotWar 2684, and not Draconian. I have the ROM, but plan on getting the cart from AtariAge. I’m waiting to order QYZ and Gorf Arcade at the same time.
Good games. I have most of them. I didn't know about H.E.R.O. 2, and don't think Robot War is out yet. Maybe it's debuting at the Portland Retro Show. I think Al of AtariAge is still there. He emailed me that AtariAge has a lot of games there this week). If you ever do a top 25 consider adding Allia Quest, Chetiry, Dare Devil (plays like the PAL exclusive Parachute, only better), Oystron and Space Game.
Robot war has been out for a few months, and is available at AtariAge. Yes, there are a lot of homebrews out there!!
Donkey Kong Arcade looks and sounds amazing!
It is… very well done!!
awesome list ;) thanks my friend! def lots to check out!
Thanks BCB! Love my homebrews!!!
I only own 5 Homebrews but Deepstone catacombs is my favorite followed by galagon and circus convoy.
I’m sure that this list will change over time. I haven’t played that one yet.
do you know when casey´s gold will be out? been waiting a long time for that train game!
These are amazing. If they'd been released back in the day, they'd certainly have been best sellers.
For sure… sure would have held off the video game crash of 1983!!
Love the draconian game!!!
Draconian is an amazing port for the 2600!!! I play it a lot!! Love it!! 😎
What a brilliant list, fantastic suggestions!
Thanks, Steven. I appreciate you watching! I’ve got reviews on other homebrews and hacks also. The Atari 2600 is my favorite console of all time. It’s the one I first had as a kid. Thanks for watching!
the Galaga one is just Wow!
It’s one of my favorites!
Man some of these are just mindblowing
For sure!!
I can't believe Panky the Panda didn't make the list...! Its one of my favorite 2600 games of all time already.
I can't believe that I haven't played this game before! I'm doing an updated list this year, and this may very well be on the new list! Thanks for sharing!
I know there's been some discussion in the comments over this but does anyone know definitively if these are available for purchase on cartridge and will they run on the original Atari VCS?
Hi Andy, I’m updating this and hope to release the new video in the coming weeks. In the video I’ll be showing many of these same games, as well as where you may still be able to buy them(if they are available).
Hi there, I'm new to this Atari Homenrew thing. Where can I get these homebrews?
Some of these homebrews may not be available any longer, as AtariAge did stop selling some of them. However, champ.games has a number of them. I’ll be releasing a new video in the coming weeks to update my top 25 Atari video game ports! Many of which, I’ll provide links on where you can get them!
@@RetroBlissGaming that's awasome man... thanks a lot... and looking forward to the new video!
The homebrew games with the last name Arcade are well worth getting for they are a lot better than the original releases from the 1980s.
For sure! Better these days, no doubt about it!
But are these games with avaiilable roms for use with stella emulator? If yes, where? Thx
May I suggest you check out my latest video with updated links for some of the ROM downloads. The Ultimate Ranking of the Top 25 ATARI 2600 Video Game Ports!

Also, the AtariAge Forums or Google search may also find some.
Imagine if that version of Donkey Kong had come out at the time... would have made the Colecovision a much harder sell.
Yes, I can imagine that it would have!!
How did they get the music in Mappy to sound so good and not horrible and off key like %99 of all Atari VCS games?
The only good games were Conquest of Mars(which is called Caverns of Mars on all other systems, including Intellivision), Mappy, Galagon, Lady Bug and 8k Pac Man.
It is amazing!
Turbo by champ games is definitely the 1 2600 game out there
It’s definitely one of the best, that’s for sure!
The omission of Zoo Keeper is a mistake, or in fact, all of Champ Games, games.
My next video will be out soon with my top 25 homebrew ports for the 2600 for 2023. Zookeeper might just be on there...
Great list! Home brewers have done an amazing job porting arcade favorites to the 2600 BUT I can easily play better versions of these arcade games elsewhere. I greatly prefer original games (some are on your list, others in the comments) or new takes on existing games like Hero 2 and Space Pac-Man. Many share my preferences.
I totally get that. It’s just, for me at least, playing these ports on the older consoles makes me wonder what things would have been like for me as a kid to have these versions. It also amazes me to see that these games are even possible on the 2600. I’m with you, as far as preferring the originals. Thanks for commenting!
@@RetroBlissGaming I agree. There is a natural curiosity in seeing these developers squeeze every drop of performance out of a hardware from the 70s and fantasizing about what it would’ve been like to own these games as a child.
Where is "Donkey Kong Arcade" from? I can't find it anywhere.
You can download it here... drive.google.com/file/d/1aEcWN_EN1UWhA1-ARWRx-gn27N8ZWZ4V/view?usp=sharing
@@RetroBlissGaming Thanks champ :)👾
Sup RBG 👋 Kool video 👍👍
What’s up, Smiling Monster!!!
Space Pac-Man is really cool
It’s a great concept. Richardo did a nice job on it!
Hi there! is there a website we can buy those Homebrews besides Atariage? Thanks!
Hi Hector, I don’t think that there is. The only other option would be to buy the ROMs directly from the Champ Games website, then play them through an emulator. I’m pretty sure Champ Games has an exclusive agreement with AtariAge.
There must be something wrong here. I grew up with the 2600 ONLY, and i know its many and obvious limitations !. What i see above would (in terms of Atari hardware) at least take a 5200 console or a 800/XL computer to accomplish. Music AND active gaming at the same time (not just before/between/after the levels) ?. Or even POLYPHONICAL melodies ?. Pac man in perfect arcade quality ?. Or Donkey Kong and Super cobra in somewhere about the Intellivision quality ?. Neeh..You must have used an up jazzed 2600 emulator for this, or a system with updated guts. "Street racing with a Ford Model T is just not possible to do". And the RAM and CPU on the 2600 hasn´t been considered as "impressing" since about 1978 or so..
Good observation… many of these homebrews are using updated chips, some of which can hold up to 32K. The max back in the 80s was usually maybe 8K, but it was usually very expensive to produce, so most original console releases were usually 2K or 4K.
Most of these games are on gear, on steroids. They are not written with stock hardware limitations in mind, they rely on the capabilities of external chips and even coprocessors such as an ARM.
@@lean.drocalil So, are you saying that the games above actually ARE from real cartridges after all, that would work in an original unmodified/"virgin" console from the 70´s ?..(i could have sworn that it was only virtual/hypothetical ROM programs that ran in some obscyre "Stella" kind of like emulator on PC !. Alternatively, on a 2600 console, but one such with some swapped parts/tampered circuit boards in it..). If "yes",..well,..then i must say I APPLAUDE IT !. The 2600 i grew up with (unofficially called "The Darth Vader edition" over in the states i think), with all of its lacking performance experiences, DESERVES TO FINALLY HAVE WORTHY COMPATIBLE GAME TITLES MADE FOR IT !. And if that means "Cartridges that would have been impossible to manufacture during the console´s active life time, but yet such that works on the survived unaltered consoles but 40-45 years later...Hell yeah !!. 😎
EDIT: Nevermind, Mappy is already part of the video 😅
@@gevaliasvittne7150 yeah, they'll pretty much work on your good old 2600. Just slide the cartridge in and you're ready to go. If you're impressed with the titles on this video, search for Mappy for the 2600 on RUclips, your mind will simply blow 😆
@@lean.drocalil I seriously thinking about it. But the amount of units in each batch of this kind of retro games is typically very low, and often it´s only one batch and then no more. The price levels is often very high too (understandably), and since they often are made for NTSC, it´s hard to say what i can expect to get on my PAL console in the end. But I DO LIKE IT FOR SURE !...🙂
Can I ask where can I get these games? Thanks.
You'll have to Google exactly where, but check the Champ Games website(champ.games) for some of them, and look for the "Game Select" Facebook group or webpage for some also. The others may be for sale at AtariAge, but some were taken off sale there earlier in the year and are no longer available.
How many of them are 4k?
Not sure. I know the PAC-Zumas are.
IMO "Donkey Kong VCS" is a better version.
I’ll be updating this video soon!
HERO 2 is just a lazy hack of the first game
I don't think that's a fair assessment. The mechanics are the same, yes. But the levels are all different, the sprites are all different. To me, this makes it a HERO 2.0! There was some time and thought put into the game programming. The levels are hard, trust me. Not sure if you have the game. You might want to try it out first, then make a judgment... just sayin... ;0)
