    when i went to Copenhagen i decided to go up into the christiansborg palace tower instead of the round tower and i´m glad i did the views where amazing and you could see above the fence and it was even free. So i would personally consider the round tower a tourist trap as well considering there´s a much better option:)

    • @destinationwellknown
      @destinationwellknown  9 месяцев назад

      Haha, I see what you did there 😀
      And the tip on Christiansborg Palace Tower is very good! However, I can't really recommend it myself as I went there a year ago when I was researching for my 'things to do in Copenhagen' guide, and I was showing a friend from the UK around. It was truly a dreadful experience of waiting for ages only to be treated like an inconvenience by the most unfriendly staff I've ever encountered...
      The view is excellent, though.

    Have to agree that the mermaid is a little disappointing. I got a glimpse of her backside on my first trip there last year from a tourist cruise around the harbour, which I would highly recommend as an enjoyable introduction to the delightful city of Copenhagen. The rest of the city is stunning - I particularly like the mix of old and ultra-modern architectural styles - the "Black Diamond" must rank as one of the most beautiful modern buildings in the world. And if you have time I'd highly recommend a couple of short rail trips away from the city centre: the stunning Roskilde Cathedral and the wonderful Kronborg Slot, AKA Hamlet's Castle!

    Since it was our first time in Copenhagen we wanted to see the Little Mermaid, even though we knew it was overrated as an attraction.
    What made it easier is that we biked from our hotel in Nyhavn to the Little Mermaid Statue. Took far less time, even with stopping at the Anglican church and fountain you showed in your video for a few pictures it took less than half the time there. Made the experience more bearable.
    The statue is very underwhelming, crowded with many rude tourists. Take some photos spend about 5 minutes there then off you go.
    I would say if its your first time in Copenhagen go by bike if you can/physically able, have someone drive you, or take a bus, walking there is not fun. Either way make sure to see the fortress while you are there, that's amazing.

    "Loreley" is our/ in Germany "Little Mermaid" sitzing on the Rock in the River Rhein. Not soooo crowded like in Copenhagen, but still there!
    It is a Rock massif near St. Goarshausen on the Rhine river. Actually not so lovely, till today it is a dangerous corner for the Ships to pass the Rock.The Statue is similar to that in Copenhagen, but not the tale behind it. First poems and legends from earlier days, later followed by a girl figure as a statue that can be admired. The most famous is the poem by Heinrich Heine. It shaped the figure of the Loreley as a kind of mermaid who, like a siren, captivates the Rhine boatmen with her song and her beauty, whereupon they perished due to the dangerous current and the rocky reefs. .... My idea was really for my first trip to Copenhagen to see "The little Mermaid"!, but not with all the visitors on the same time as reported, we will see!)

    I understand the sentiment and idea behind the video but, while I agree the Little Mermaid shouldn't be on your to do list in Copenhagen, the other places right near where the statue is - which you also mentioned - are worth seeing. If you are on a bike (or even if you are on foot) then ppl could go west afterwards to the lakes which is a must imo.

    And a few hundred metres from that classical statue you can find the "Genetically Modified Little Mermaid".

  • @TVWJ

    Not a scam, but a more a disappointment. However, if you go for the walk over the nearby walls behind the English church, the Frihedsmuseum, and the Gefion fountain, which are actually quite nice, then you just happen to pass by the mermaid, but haven't really wasted your time ;-)

    Calling The Little Mermaid a "tourist trap" or a "scam" is misleading! The Little Mermaid is a simple, beautiful, little statue sitting on a rock in the water. We Danes love her very much! Tourists are not promised anything except to see/ look at the sculpture, so if more was expected, that's on the tourist! Besides, it's free!

    I dont know if I would call the little mermaid a scam. For me just not that interesting. I am danish, born in Copenhagen, lived there 40 of my 60 years and never felt the urge to go see it. Rest of the tour is what it says... A tour of Copenhagen, a little, very little taster of what it is like in this fantastic, medeval "town". It really is hard to describe the vibe, you have to feel it for yourself, and there is no chance, again in my opinion, that you will be disappointed with a walk of Copenhagen and its Inner City.... Its gorgeous....

  • @kennethhansen2946
    @kennethhansen2946 9 дней назад

    As a Dane, I completely disagree.
    Why should bigger always be better?
    The little mermaid is a fragile little creature. She lives in the sea, and we should all be happy that we can get this glimpse of her.
    So do go there, and get your very own picture taken with the real little mermaid.
    I promise you... It wouldn’t be the same, if they turned this into a Tivoli, and built a 10 meter high mermaid.

    You are being too harsh, nothing wrong with the statue it's free to see its just a bit small. The only time I was disappointed in Copenhagen was in 2015, I convinced my parents to visit with me. My dad checked on Tripadvisor for the best Italian in CPH and it suggested somewhere near Norrebro, we went it didn't sell pizzas, how come an Italian doesn't sell pizzas? We were in the metro station heading back and there was an old women in her underwear screaming at everyone on the platform, we still talk about that night today, it just made it feel more like the UK.🤣

    the thing is all that you show esxept from the round tower -the Citadel, Gefion fountain, the English church, Frederiks church, Amalienborg and he Harbour is on the way to the little mermaid, so people should go there but see the route as the main attraction and go two different routesto and from the statue to see it all -the statue is mostly about the story not only the Hans Christian Andersen sory but how the mermaid have lost her head ect. more than once

      Ruined by the god's damnation.
      The Lithuanian girl today

      Likes sometimes in her charming way
      To deck herself with beads of amber.
      But when a song of love she sings,
