I am born and raised in Copenhagen, and to me being called a Viking would be a huge compliment!
Exactly, its a big compliment 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Exactly! That is probably the most stupidest advice of this woman. Danes are quite proud of their past for a reason. Why would they hate to call them Vikings? I am living in Denmark for 5 years now and no one told me such a thing. Same in Aalborg, Aarhus and Copenhagen.
Viking were called Danes. Denmark was the cradle of viking and all famous Vikings are more or less Dane's like Rollo, Beawulf, Bluetooth etc.
Why is therte no jaywalking? Not because it is illegal. But because kids could see you, and learn not to respect the red light.
Folk går ikke for rødt, fordi de er nogle Fucking Kyllinger.. Lær børn at kigge sig for inden de går over vejen, som ALTID har været Normen i Danmark, så sker der dem ikke noget. 🙄😉
kids like us?
Never jaywalk. You might get hit by a bike. And it's not for fun
I jaywalk every single day like 20 times a day here in nyc, where I'm from. It's gonna be hard to adjust to this when I go to Denmark. Can't wait to visit though.
Same for a swede. We always jaywalk. When the first go.. the rest follows... 😅 That was actually the first thing I noticed three weeks ago visiting Kph first time in five years: "oh.." they really dont.....
@@thegbgfamily So I think I might like it better in Sweden for this reason haha
Or a car.
As a Dane, I’m so impressed of how many details and nuances you’ve managed to pick up. These are things that Dane’s don’t even think about!
You might be interested in a video Nordic Adam did about her. She literally steals Culture Trip articles and then reads them out word for word. This is one of their articles.
You are right about most of your points , but being Called a viking is okay with me ,
Proud viking heritage is this country , .
Greetings from Denmark 🇩🇰🍻
Det er sgu fedt
Close to the truth word for word😂 I think the lack of jaywalking is mostly to take kids into consideration and not teach them a bad and dangerous habit. Viking is not something we are, it is something we do 🎉😅🇩🇰🤟
I do jaywalk, but I could also just well be standing all alone in the middle of the night and wait for the light to turn green. What I am saying is that it is not as strict as it is said. But yes if I see someone jaywalking I would notice - it is that rare. But I would mostly just think that the person was either very stupid or very much behind schedule. I would either shake my head at the idiocy, or smile that he/she got herself into such time trouble.
I'm a Dane, and you can call me a Viking all day long, many people do
Great vlog as always! Have a super summer! Keep up the good work. Be safe!
If you want to pet somebody's dog ask first. It is the polite thing to do and keeps you save from agressive dogs. If the dog is friendly they most likely say "yes".
It's interesting how Scandinavian countries(🇳🇴🇸🇪🇩🇰) have many things in common in ethnicity similarity in language and in culture and social system too, it's like a separate family.
🇧🇷🌻
Oddly, Sweden is probably the least Scandinavian of us. Even Iceland's culture is more akin to Danish, Norwegian and Finnish culture than Sweden's. Being a stagetech, I've worked in most countries this lattitude, and since there's crowd safety involved, I usually need to interact with the police. Swedish police... It's like they want to make a problem out of the fact that you're talking to them. It's like Southpark's "RESPECT MAH AUTHORITAY!" when you're just asking where they wanna set up shop for the upcoming festival. Baffling: A Danish, Norwegian or Icelandic cop tends towards the attitude "If there's no problem, I can live without the paperwork. Carry on." 😉
Denmark, Norway and Sweden have many similarities and in fact all of Norway and parts of Sweden were once Danish. The brotherhood we share is also the flow of a lot of banter, but it has also been deeply serious once. Depending on how you count wars, Denmark and Sweden have a sort of world record for wars with each other, but the record could also be between England and France. It depends on whether you count actual battles or the time you have been at war.
I read a bit about the Danish and Swedish wars, Sweden lost most of those wars. I've never been to Scandinavia, but I've been studying about this region of Northern Europe for a few years now. Sweden is the country I like the most that too because I like a lot of Rock bands and Pop artists from Sweden, they make good music. In general, all Scandinavian countries are very different for a Brazilian, it's like another world.
@@hansenlima9306 I work on a regular basis with three brazilians. You wouldn't guess they all came from the same country 😉
Brazil is a very large country with different regions, people in the North have a different culture and accent than people in the South.
After a 2 week trip in Norway, went to Copenhagen for a few days, was so happy beer was only $8 a pint - after spending $15 for it in Norway, although I still love Norway.

Must be Copenhageners who doesn't like being called vikings, everyone throughout the entire country would take it as a compliment.
There is a big difference of bieng a Dane living in Copenhagen or outside Copenhagen, it is as if is't two different countries, It's outside we make the money that they spend in Copenhagen

The "don't speak danish" and "don't call danes vikings" are awful advice. We love those things. You must have met some city snobs if that's the impression you got. Same goes for Roskilde. Just zealander snobbery.
In my opinion we should sell zeeland to sweeden.
Hi: Very helpful. I plan to spend a week here in September 2024. You covered a lot of cultural quirks many visitors wouldn't be aware of. I was cautioned about making small talk with Danes I don't know, as their reaction is likely to be "Why is this stranger speaking to me?"
Thanks for bringing some attention to Denmark, I never thought of visiting the country (same as Netherlands or Belgium). But in Scandinavia I've been to Norway and I'm planning a trip to Sweden, so I'd love to see something on this country from yourself. 🤩
Saying that DK is the same as belgium and nl makes your comment the biggest joke of the year. Not even close
If you plan to visit Belgium, first try the Flemish cities : Brugge, Ghent & Antwerp.
Brussels for one day: there's the Grand' Place and some cultural places like museums, the EU buildings... But the city is ugly and dirty.
How often do you travel ?

6:05 just wanna say that depends on where in denmark you are some places here in the northjutland you can get drinks for around 30dkk or around $4,40 or even down to 15dkk or around $2,20 but that said some times yeah they do searve you drinks to around 50-65dkk i have never had a drink in copenhagen but here in northjutland its kinda cheap but i prefer to buy my own bottle as thats still mutch cheaper haha
Great video, was laughing all way through. U got it so right. 🤣
-Allthough, a word of advice to any tourist considering to bike around copenhagen: just dont! ;)
As a Dane, my all too early late father learned me to ride a bike. As now 75, he sadly died when I was only 6½, but I still rides bikes! Also very expensive bikes, as a Top Brompton folding bike (Actually a horrible bike on small wheels, but very handy for transport, as folded!) and a Superlight carbon MTB. The last is best when riding up a brick wall, in the low gears 😁
Hello sir, I hope you wont find it rude, but I'd like to ask you a question. I think you're saying that you're 75 now. So when Disneyland opened and become popular, were people aware in Denmark that it was inspired by Tivoli Gardens?
(By the way I also have a folding bike! An inexpensive Zizzo).
@@BobKnight-mm2ze Yes, to my knowledge Walt Disney became much inspired by the Tivoli (and it isn't only for amusement, but also a fine natural Park around, as also a part of the now flattened, former Fortress Wall round Copenhagen, and the water in front of it)! And by the way, we also have an even older Amusement Park, north of Copenhagen, and considered the oldest in the world, "Bakken" (and we don't mention, that they have one in Vienna, which is, possibly older?)!
We also have the by far most precise "Mechanical Clock" in the world (Guinness) and with the slowest moving mechanical part in it (Guinness)! "The Olsen, World Clock" inside the Town Hall in Copenhagen (Not the clock in the tower, on the outside of the building!).
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Thank you Mr. Sørensen. I'm headed that way in the Fall, so I appreciate the list of things to see. The only thing I had on my list was that big bridge that connects to Malmo!
And if interested in History we also have most of the former, outside Defense Wall round Copenhagen and considered the finest of its kind, now mostly also a Public Park. It was built around the former turn of the Century, and it became absurdly expensive, but most likely kept Denmark from being invaded by Germany during the First World War, so it was worth the cost!! And several of the former Military Buildings have been reconstructed from the original drawings! As also a part has been cleaned from growth to make it look like the original. And you can't see it as a defense wall from the outside, before you meet the water in front of it, in a deep ditch.
We had invited a German Officer up to look at built, and from his Report we could, after the war, see that he considered it would be too expensive to take control of the Danish Capital!!!!
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Wow, so much to learn! And I look forward to seeing it with my own eyes. Thank you again for your time.
But allways remeber you are in cph ,1 of the worlds most expensive capital beer are cheaper in other part of denmark
Ok received the message 👍
Very nice indeed. I am Norwegian. I moved to Denmark in 2006. I have made exactly the same impressions as you. Perhaps except the Viking bit. By the way; i will watch your video about Norway.
You’re the best Anna
I'll blend in perfectly then. I'm an introvert, hate people staring at each other in so many other parts of the world (rude!!!), I mind my own business, love kind and polite people, hate aggressiveness/vulgarity/incivility and I LOVE cold weather :) I hope it's not too late for me to start everything from scratch at 50 years old but my son is thinking of studying in Denmark and since there's only two of us, I'm really hoping to join him.
You should come here, its great!! And hey... your fifties are the new thirties right? ... at least I hope so... will be there in a few years :)
About interacting with the dogs of Danes, you can just ask politely. Usually, the answer will be no simply because the owner knows that if the dog actually bite or attack anybody, there is a good chance the dog will be put to death. Most dogs in Denmark are family dogs and may react unexpected to people they don't know or feel comfortable with.
Hi from Copenhagen 😊
I loved Copenhagen so much! 😊 I need to get back

My advice is not to live in Denmark. You won't be happy there. My happiest day there was the day I went to the airport to leave Denmark for Thailand.
Danish are nice people and in summer it is very nice often with long time of light. But autumn and winter suck.
@@hassanalihusseini1717 You are talking to someone who is very aware and well informed about the climate, they are very familiar with long winters or prepared for it. The long winters is what makes life really worth living for, it is a genetical thing, it is in the blood. When spring hits and you see life blossom up and the vibes starts to buzz, the batteries charges up and you live the fullest again, then autum sets in you settle in and gear down and prepare yourself for the beautiful winter and stay active. You have to have it in the blood and most north people have that life cyclus hard ingrained in their genetics, it is a disciplin and they love it. They value and enjoy life much more because of it. It is the winter that makes the North people, resistant, creative, strong and super productive.
My family owns property in Thailand, the country is beautifull but i would absolutely hate to live their due to the climate. I've been to many places but i always miss the north and always will.
Stay where you are and don't tell people what to do, just enjoy your experience and be gratefull you've been lucky enough to experience it.
@@shades2.183 Yes the hard winters make people strong. This is why Afghans may be the strongest people in the world.
555 I never tell people what to do, the opposite is true. I want people stay away from countries I like and go to Canada and Scandinavia instead. I am fighting against overtourism in Thailand and other places.

Few years back I went to Kolding and Billund.
To avoid the south of Europe (the usual destinations like Spain, Italy or Portugal) this summer 2023, I wanted to go back to Denmark. I went to Copenhagen at the end of July 2023. First time and I was amazed. Beautiful city, clean (opposite to where I live, Brussels -Belgium-) and nice local people. Bike riders are more respectful than ours...
Surely I will go back because I did not visit the whole city.
What??? It’s not that clean in Brussels?? Now way! I’ve heard Belgium is amazing 😃

@@AnnaGoldmanTravel If you visit the Flemish towns (Brugge, Ghent, Antwerp,...), these cities kept their historical architecture. Brussels, there's the Grand'Place and some nice Cultural and Historical places, but the rest of the city is not that good-looking as Copenhaguen. Expat of 4 years.
I highly encourage you speak Danish with Danes. They will welcome it.
The only ones that are ruder are unfortunately most of the time only danish immigrants from my experience.
As a Dane, I disagree with half of this. You can pet dogs as long as you ask first. Jaywalking is a no go, so is drinking and driving, and taking photos on pusher street. The rest depends on the uptight Dane you are around. But most don't give a shit about Roskilde, if weed is legal or not, what people drink, and love being called a Viking. Plus most Danes will find it funny if you speak Danish, but might ask if you can say it again in English.
Well, the American use of Jaywalking also refer to just crossing roads and streets. In the US you cannot even cross roads or streets legally in many cases. In Denmark there's no limitation, you can cross all streets unless there's a crossing with lights nearby. And in that case many people cross anyway. Only if we stand right at the crossing do we get fanatical about not crossing the red light. But that is because our anal retentive police in the past was very quick to give completely unnecessary fines.
as a dane i can say we regularly jaywalk in Denmark it’s not ilegal or anything like that, if there’s not much traffic and the if there’s a lot of people at the spot where cross it’s fine and totally normal and there’s no fine as you said
@@KurtFrederiksen Denmark is probably the only place you are able to see people waiting for the green light, even during nights, with no traffic!!!
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 people in Hungary tend to wait for green lights - ok not after midnight in deserted streets or the like but if there is any kind of vehicle traffic people tend to observe the pedestrian lights.
This is the one of the few things that the UK is actually better at than other countries. People are treated like adults who know when it safe to cross a road and when not, not mindlessly standing there on an empty road waiting for the green light.
That picture with the dog in a spiked collar isn’t danish I presume because that’s been illegal for more than a decade❤
Funny you think their liquer prices are high. Welcome to Sweden! Come to Göteborg and we can swing a beer! Oh I was just in Cph I must go there more often. Mini Berlin for a swede! Sweden is soo uptight in comparison...
I got a chuckle listening to things you never do while visiting Denmark. 😂
I would like to visit
I lived in DK for 10 years and was very happy but on the negative side, I was surprised how much ppl stare, especially if you're different or disabled. I noticed children were never discreetly taught not to stare either.
Don't drink and bike ride. In the Netherlands. Don't drive a car when you're drunk, but take the bike. Especially when you're too drunk to call a taxi.
I. Love babe, nice connection to my Danish family ....
About drunk driving on a bicycle!! That is not true there are no law about driving drunk in traffic on a bike!!
The reason it have not been a problem back when the law was put into place! It have always been prohibited to drive in traffic under influence of alcohol, drugs (also medicine) or because of severe sickness!!
This is the first rule You will learn when taking a drivers license!
And of cause it goes for everybody in traffic, also drunk jaywalkers!!
If You cause an accident You will be liable!!
It has not been something police took as a problem previously, but now so many thinks it is okay to drive home drunk as a skunk!!
This is why police take is seriously now!
You will not have problems with calling Danes Vikings!! Most of us are quite proud of this ancestral heritage!
Thank for the video of an other perspective of our country!
Happy New Year!!
Kind regards the Danish Viking
Not true about calling us Vikings .
We are vikings. Who said otherwise?
I was surprisd to see a photo of a pit bull in Denmark. My Danish cousin has told me that they are illegal over there.
they are - must be an old photo - or not from denmark
#1 NO Jaywalking. 2:20 - Local guy in red hat in the middle of the screen casually jaywalks😅
Will my U.S debit card work in denmark?
Talk with your bank, but if uou have a Visa or a Mastercard it should be ok, but anyway make a phonecall to your bank
if visa or mastercard then yes you will even be able to go cashless - i've only used cash at flee markets in the past 10 years - I certainly don't even carry cash 99% of the time

You actually went to my country
All I hear is mimimimimimimimimi xD funny video, nevertheless ^^
Of course you can call us vikings!! But expect people to laugh though😅
Cna barely understand what she says because the quality is poor and she has a funky accent :/
Also she makes up a lot of asumptions, most Danes dont mind or rather like it when called viking.
After a trip to Copenhagen i would like to add here that jaywalking feels like a national sport there and the most popular souvenir is a mad viking
Copenhagen is the best city in a world i have been there in March this year and i like it that city
You should visit Denmark in June, the best time for a vacation
haha :D Living in Odense, I always jaywalk 😄 Why wait for green if there are no cars in sight?
People do cross the street all the time when it’s green. I pet people’s dogs and
I have never had anyone be mad at me. People talk to me instead. Never had a Danish person be mad at me calling them a Viking. Peeping is bad
Now you will pick Denmark instead of Norway? Hehe 🙂
Jaywalking becomes legal at around 1 AM
Those blippy noises can drive you crazy, otherwise a good video.
do we not jaywalk in Denmark?! you have never been in Aarhus at 16 a clock then.. it looks like all will like to get hit by moving cars.
The video makes it sound like the Danes are a bunch of rule-bound angels on bicycles. The warning that you, as a tourist, practice your skills before throwing yourself into traffic is extremely relevant, as Danes on bicycles in Copenhagen are a bunch of bloodthirsty anarchists ;-) The fact that they pretty much all hold back at red lights is primarily because they know how to other cyclists behave.
bruh i jaywalk all the time and i am born and raised in Copenhagen, alot of people do this
Welcome to the rest of Denmark next time :-). On a side note bikers do not follow any rules at all, just ask the police...
LMAO 🤣 ! Some of us do Jaywalk, if there is no traffic ! But basically, your right..., we wait for the green light 😊 ! Yeah! Tourist´s coming here to ride Bikes, not knowing the rules.., , are the WORST 😔 ! A danger to themself s and the rest of us. You need to learn the rules before you get on a bike here! (ruclips.net/video/H42KjIkO8SA/видео.html) .
Freetown Christiania: By the time of this comment, "Pusher Street" has been shut down by the locals there. The Gangs have been run out, with the support of the Danish Police. Your gonna have to find your "Weed" somewhere else 😊 !
As a Dane, I don´t mind being called "Viking" 😊! Proud of my heritage.., for good or bad 🙄 ! Really GOOD Vlog Anna ! ❤ it !
We Danes love to be called Vikings 😊
Jaywalking rules are idiotic. If it’s an empty street with no cars/bikes anywhere I’m walking across. I’m not standing for ages like a lemon waiting for a green light. Just displays a deep conformity and inability to question authority which is pretty creepy tbh.
This is information stolen from a blog.
These things are about the culture of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is not all of Denmark.
In Jutland, the main part of Denmark, everybody jaywalks and cyclists are totally indifferent to rules and right of way.
How many misleading and wrong informations is it possible to out in a video? This must be a record😎
Not sure where you got the idea that we dont like being called Vikings, its simply not true. We dont mind being called Vikings.

If you are an English speaker, don't even try to pronounce Danish words. Germans actually can pronounce many of our words, like Nyhavn.
Sad advice! I'm a native English speaker and I think I can do it.
@@freepagan If you don't have researched it, such as Google Translate or if you don't have knowledge of German or other Scandinavian languages, you won't have a clue.

hahaha.. funny.
never jailwalk.. we never jailwalk if there is a lot off traffic.. UNLESS your autobuss is on the other side off the crossing.. then you run to try and catch the bus before it leaves.
pedestean crossings.. many danes dont stop. so dont just walk on the pedestrean crossing without checking if the cars have seen you. ( an extreme right wing danish politician ones told she wished to remove all pedestrean crossings, because cars dont stop ??? I can only ask : WHAT ? a politician that dont think it is better idea to educate drivers to stop if pedestreans are crossing. but NOO .. . her logic : lets remove all pedestrean crossings.
you just need to take to spain, and you will figure out that they all stop at pedestrean crossings, because police looks at that crime seriusly. very serius
it is difficult for a dane to understand there are countryes without bycicle culture. so they have not learned the trafic rouls for bikes. just follow the stream off bikes. the rest is logic. not so difficult.
