Scouts brought the crowd alive AGAIN ... and THIS was ONLY 5th place?!? DCI was already forgetting that crowdpleasing is what this game was always about ...
The last 3-4 minutes of this show was insane. Incredible baritones and melos. The power of the G bugle was so much more raw and nasty. Miss that wall of sound!!
@Nicholas Hoffman Unfortunately...it has...at least to the modern judges, fans and members..all we’re left with is RUclips clips to remember how good it used to be!
You don't see quite as many standing ovations during shows anymore this was truly A classic I was there in 92 my first world championship ever I honestly thought the stadium would erupted in A riot it was deafening I mean that in A good way it was electrifying felt just like being at A rock concert great memories ❤
I wish the shows today had such energy and general effect. Today's shows are missing something. And it isn't the talent. It is the writers and designers.
Like anything else, the old stuff will never get old to the older folk… Madison Corps, regardless of years, will always try to entertain while giving kids in the program(s), a good experience. My musical knowledge was catapulted by marching corps, and my work ethic was also enhanced. I almost say this sheepishly, but in 2027, it’ll be 30 years since I aged out… but the memories are strong and these videos are historic treasures for those who were involved. Politics now within the activity, putting them and my opinion aside, I hope todays youth can appreciate the thousands of feet, upon thousands of feet, both participant and fan, that came before you so you could march today. Please keep the activity going, no matter where you march or how you are involved. (getting off my box now…)
HOLY SMOKES! These guys knocked the socks out of this one!!!!! And the percussion feature OMG i was drooling and ready to faint by the end of it! This was some GOOD STUFF!!!!
I still believe that if this show had better drill it could have really contended for the championship. Those guys played their hearts out and will always be one of my top five shows. Never forget seeing this live so thank you for uploading.
You aren't kidding! This book was absolutely amazing, and the craftsmanship in the hornline was at a level I've rarely heard in drum corps since. I never got to hear it live, but oh man, what I wouldn't give...
@@neilpalmer5577 Its ALL political. When you're instructors give you the judges tapes every night on the bus and you laugh at the stupid judges, then you know you're in a real drum corps. Madison Scouts used to be all about entertaining the fans, no matter who was in the audience -- not about doing what the judges were telling us to do.
I agree completely. That is my biggest gripe about today's DCI. The brass section seems flat and dull to me. There are several moments in this show when the percussion line is in front of the brass when the brass section comes back in and hits a push and they would absolutely give me goosebumps.
We watched this over and over when I was a junior in HS! Awesome! Saw them live in '91 at the Cotton Bowl when I was 16! Blown away. Never seen anything like this before!
Chippy Chippenstein .. you guys were amazing. I never had the chance to march DCI here in Miami. Magic of Orlando was the only one close to us. But never inspired me to march with them. Madison Scouts inspired me back then.
that is because they were NOT a band. They had drums & BUGLES . . . . . that is the whole controversy with corps of this day and age. They have brass band instruments (probably will have woodwinds soon) . . . . . why is that so hard for this generation to figure out ? ? . . . . a bugle is a brass instrument in a class by itself.
i really love that chaotic leading tone by the high brass at 11:06, as the low brass plays those three descending notes. there's some kind of harmony in the chord that adds a lot to the franticness.
@@JohnSmith-zi9or Not sure if Nathan ever got back to you on this but Bill is the trumpet (soprano) player on the left at the beginning. He was a friend of mine and he marched with Nathan and I in the Madison Scouts in 1993. I also marched with him in '88 and '89 before that. He died tragically. I believe it was in 1996. RIP brother.
Listen to 88 and then 92, this drumline and brass were absolutely as strong as what won in 88 and in my opinion, this is better writing with more exposed licks. I know it's blasphemy to say I like this better than 88, but sorry I just do. They did malaguena WAY better in the 90s. That's my 2 pennies
Visually, it could have been cleaner. Musically, it was overblown in parts. But HOLY CRAP I miss this version of the Madison Scouts. Shame on DCI for not allowing them to retain this identity.
I marched in a Div 2 Corp in 1989 and 1990 and Div 1 Corps in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994, the type of image of a Corp that you are referring to ALWAYS comes down to two bodies, 1. The Executive Board and 2. The Instructional and Arranging Staff.
@@anonymoussithlord5753 I have followed the activity since I was 17. I've watched Madison's shows before and after 2000. What on earth was supposedly so horrific with their show designs or visual execution that caused them to suddenly fall apart from 2000 onward?
@@RyanBoots Ryan, what you are talking about delves for the majority into the creative team. I.E. the drill writer and marching staff. However, as a whole, you can put this on the entire staff as it is their job to do repeated run throughs until every facet of the drill, marching and overall presentation of the show is locked down tight. I honestly believe what you are seeing is the newer generations of stafff either NEVER marched and was just hired based on word of mouth in the DCI community, which sad to it, happens quite often or they are old timers that need to call it quits and have gotten lazy which happens also.
@@RyanBoots If you can give me the year of the WORST example that comes to your mind, I can research and find out who the staff members were and give you a more definitive answer. I think dci 1992 was insane. Cavaliers definitely deserved the title. I think this show was better than BD 92’ however. Such a crowd pleaser

often forgotten this was a great Madison Show and music from a highly under rated Broadway Show great story cast and music.
Man. What I would give to listen to some of these G Bugles in person. Never got that chance.
It still amazes me with the talent of these performers that DCI has not brought back the bugles.
BD that year was awesome LOUD Big Bad and Blue, and of course Cavies won with the BEAST of the Show revolution and triumph
