Great video buddy. Totally agree with you. Main thing is remember to have positive throttle for shifting up and closed for down. If you don't obey that it can sometimes lead to Jerky operation. I've found this out when not fully concentrating on the shift.
Yeah...blipping the quickshifter is a no no on downshifts...years of muscle memory has to be consciously thought of a few times but its all good now :)
Great video. Just wanted to mention that you can even shift down with a little (steady) throttle on it. So if you're in a town on a constant speed (and throttle) and want to prepare for some acceleration, you can just keep the throttle steady and shift down. Works great. I have a 2019 XR.
Wow super good video, can’t wait to go try that out tomorrow! Been doing manual only cuz I did not feel confident from reading the manual. Many thanks for very helpful video with great camera work!
Appreciate the support. I wish I had the time and chops to put together a bit more but doing what I can at the moment to put out something useful and fun. Thanks for the comment.
Interesting, a lot of people have problems/nuances with the quickshifter but on my Gen 1 it's so flexible that I can quickshift smoothly in any throttle position, coasting at steady speed, it'll pop up and down no problem, even when getting on the throttle slightly and dropping a gear. I only ever get issues of it not going into gear if I'm lazy with my feet and don't push the lever through the full travel.
I have 20 years of muscle memory on manual bikes, then another 10 on maxi scooters with no gear shifts, and now I'm looking to get a gear shift pro R1200RT. I'm going to have to double concentrate every step to overcome all my previous habbits.
It is a lot of fun. I can't remember off the top of my head...I feel like the option is standard equipment now on this bike...but I also have the Tech package so I would have to verify that..
Great vid, made me rethink my shifting! Pretty sure I've been doing it wrong. It's funny because I have had 2 BMW's with gear shift assistant pro and never got around to reading that part of the owner's manual. 🤭 Off topic, but do you use a screen protector for your TFT?
I do occasionally feel like it's not smooth in first and second gear. Maybe it is a muscle memory, like you say, but i know i tried adapting myself to it... Otherwise, other gears are in 95% flawless. 👍
@@mtbman2479 probabyl it is. Plus i ride mostly with my gf behind so i'm paying more attention to smooth shifting... I can feel movement of her body when i shift into second/third. Maybe i just pay too much attention. :D
Yeah...1 to 2 can be where I experience a less smooth exchange from time to time but pretty flawless most everywhere else and really most of time 1 to 2.
@@ThrottleBackRubberDown tried focusing on what i do on today's ride and i shifted much smoother than before. I noticed every time i want to shift, my left arm's index finger goes towards the clutch. Need to stop doing it... 😀
@@veljkovic92 It really is interesting if you focus really intently on what the hands are doing that you realize how much muscle memory exists. I find this to be especially true on the throttle side of things.
My one is not that smooth when downshifting… and it is kinda hard to find to match the rev gap as well when downshifting… and also from 1st to 2nd, it requires higher rev to engage otherwise it gets into N…
I been having to ride wife spyder to shop. It's push to shift you don't have to roll off the throttle to shift up on down . But it's so hard not to you just have to make yourself.
It really is a strange experience the first couple of times but then all of a sudden it is easy to switch back and forth between clutch and quickshifter

I rode my friend’s S1000R and the quick shifter is insane. Love it.
It is definitely a lot of fun in its own way. I really enjoy it when I am getting after it a bit.
Rev matching. Wow. Just learned a few new things. 🔥
Cheers mate!

I agree. I have never had any issues unless it is user error on my end. Next to Triumph I have never had such a smooth unit.
Great review. thanks so much. So super informative. No question left unanswered. So interesting. Thanks.

Loved quick shifters for the racebike.
They are a ton of fun and have come a long way in their applications the past few years.
Thanks man, I learned a lot.
Great vids tbrd, real world reviews and tips 👍🏽
That's sweet way of riding! For the price of your BMW, it should come equiped with that option already.🤔 Thanks for sharing. Catch you later!

Great explanation, Thanks Ian.
great video!!
Thanks for a great and informative video. My bike doesn’t have the quick shifter. I don’t miss it but of course it would have been nice if I had it 😊
Yeah...I definitely don't feel like it is a must have like heated grips but it is a lot of fun to have when it is there.
Great blog, really enjoyed it

I do not have a screen protector...I probably should but I rarely put them on anything...my bikes included.
Very Informative. Thanks for the video!

I have it on my Panzer 1250GS but can't downshift for 💩 using it.... But upshifting is a dream... No doubt
Hahah...Interesting. I find the less I think about it the better it performs.
When using this gear shift assist do you still have to use the clutch to pull out and to come to a full stop? Or can you do that too with no clutch
My lags on 3 to 4 sometimes stays in 3 :/
When you try to use clutch do you have that feeling on lever ghag ig catches something? Some kind of like broken clutch line? Mine it does this.
Same here.
If only it had a Honda dct?
