I've done on my 2019 XR about 6000km in the last 8 months or something. I do own a Panigale 899 as well since 2015. Before that I owned Ducati Streetfighter 848, Kawasaki zx6r, CBR 600RR. I've driven a lot different bikes like BMW GS1200, Ducati Diavel, KTM Duper Duke 1290, Panigale 1299, Multistrada 1200S, BMW R nine T and BMW 1000RR and probably ridden some other bikes as well but can't remember on the spot. One thing I can say is that BMW 1000XR is the best all rounder out there. By far mate so I'm sorry, your review is completely off. I'm guessing you did this on purpose to inflict reactions from people like me. If that was your goal I salute you, you did made me react and comment. I will take my XR on the track soon and than you can see, as you said "performance wise" what this bike can do. Cheers

I have given you a thumbs down on this one. This was not a good review at all. You say it's a "detuned version of a detuned version", WTF! You're sponsored by Gold Coast Motorsports, a BMW dealer, which is probably down on new bike sales in these trying times. How many 2020 models did Gold Coast Motorsports order prior to COVID19 collapse? I assume your sponsor has quite a few new bikes on the floor which aren't selling. I'm only making these assumptions because I'm absolutely stunned at this review. If you're trying to sway people from buying second hand 1st Gen this isn't the way to do it. I think for the integrity of your sponsor you should remove this review, because everyone who has ridden the 2015-2019 will see straight through this review and completely write it off as bullshit, just as I did.

Unless the American models are made differently, the XR and R share the same engine and power. The only difference is that the torque on the XR kicks in lower down. So I don't understand your point about the power being 3 steps down from the RR. Your other criticism based on absolute performance are understandable but you don't buy this bike for out and out performance alone. It is a combination of touring and performance in a quality bike. I agree about the headlight but that can be remedied with spots. There are many real performance bikes and if you want balls out riding the old and the new RR are in a different league. Though you wouldn't want to tour on either. I'm on a FB group of XR owners from around the world. Many of them come from sports bikes and the overwhelming conclusion of everyone is that the bike is an amazing performance bike that can be ridden comfortably too. The high up riding position actually makes filtering through traffic easier, like driving an SUV and having the command driving position. You are entitled to have your opinion of course. It just doesn't chime with the majority of XR owners who don't all ride it for "Harleysque" days out slow cruising. Maybe you left it in rain mode when you rode it? LOL ;-)

compared to the R the XR needed to be revved way higher to experiance the same "KICK" its def tuned differently- n yes... its needs HIDs- they fixed it on the new 2020

@@mattymotorcycle1713 There must be something very different on American models then. My mate rides a UK R and I have ridden it and he has ridden my UK XR. I have also ridden the new RR BTW. My XR is more comfortable and better for trips. His R feels light and has no wind protection. But they perform the same in the ride.
You've stirred up a shit-storm on the FB group that led some of us here. It's like you rode a different bike altogether. That bike isn't standard you've got there anyway as the screen is aftermarket (though actually an improvement). And you've got bar risers on which aren't standard. I have them too as I've short arms but you obviously didn't ride a standard set up bike. And I thought about your luggage point and wondered what you are talking about. I've a 49L top box and two large side panniers. I could tour for weeks! A K series wouldn't have that much more space and if you ride solo you've got the whole of the rear seat and the tank!
We can all have opinions but your is so off-field compared to common experience that it lacks credibility. Maybe you just have/had a bad bike.

@@mattymotorcycle1713 the way you describe the bike it's almost as if you rode an RR in comparison not an R and as if the XR you rode was a dog. The bike you are beside has been modified with an aftermarket screen and handlebar risers. I wonder if it has been altered in other ways. There is no way an R and XR feel that different when pressed hard. I've seen an XR tracked against a full-on sports bike (cannot recall if an RR or something equally exotic): the XR was barely a second or so behind which in the real world of roads and average riders means it will stay with any sports bike. I keep going back to thinking you didn't have the XR in dynamic or dynamic pro mode.

“XR is fitted with a detuned of a detuned engine” - Lol ! It is the same engine as in the R model, detuned RR engine to be more precise.
“Bars are too high” - Have you noticed that you have aftermarket bar risers fitted to the bike you are talking about ? LOL !
“Engine is weak and the bike is slow” - LOL again ! Search for cuban rider on youtube, just an example. Perhaps you should learn to ride before making these “reviews”....

Wow, guess I have a completely different bike made by the same company with the same badging? I have to ask, do you know the market for this bike? No, it’s not a crotch rocket, and no it’s not a tourer, it’s an In between for someone like me who is to old for an RR and to young for a bagger. Seems you don’t like the engine because it’s “under powered” , you don’t like the brakes because they suck for the abundant amount of power of the engine? Brakes are brembos, arguably the best on the market, you loved the wind screen which is aftermarket. I have to ask, do you even know what this bike is about? This is my first time seeing one of your videos and I have to say, it’s probably my last. Love honest reviews and I know this isnt the best bike on the market but you are completely clueless with what this bike does and what it is.

  • @banditbiker25

Jesus, I've never heard such an over exagerated review.
Bars too high, riding position wrong, and not as positive turn in as you want? Maybe don't fit bar risers then!
As for the power, as said by others the engine produces the same power as the S1000R, but turned for more low down torque. Heavier bike, likely to be with pillion and luggage some of the time, and not in the same category as a super naked, so that's exactly what you want.
As for the brakes, they are comparable with those on the Multistrada in my opinion. I tested the Ducati, KTM and BMW when I was shopping for a bike and found the BMW the best overall package for sure. The quickshifter and slower handling of the Ducati were awful in comparison.
Now, go and cash that BMW 2020 XR promotion cheque ... but maybe try and be a little more subtle next time

I agree with you on a few points here. I think you hit the nail on the head when you were referring to the M-car comparison. This is the bike for a person who values something in-between perfect performance and complete comfort. I own one. It is not as comfortable as my GS was. It as not quite as track-fast as my Fireblade was.
I disagree about two points here as well.
The brakes are top notch. They are super powerful. It makes me wonder if you were on one with glazed or damaged brakes. If you do take this bike on a track, only a professional rider will be able to beat this with a supersport. The handling is superb (mind you, I don’t have bar risers)
My overall opinion is that this is the very best used market street bike made. Its tuned perfectly. It’s WAY too fast for the streets if you rev it over 6k, and under that it is tuned down to where the speeding ticket is manageable.

I have a 2007 Electra Glide Classic, cammed, chipped and dyno'd at 115hp. And about 2 months ago I bought a second motorcycle, a 2016 BMW S1000XR. I absolutely love the bike, and have put on 5,000 km on the bike already. At 65 years old, and after riding Harley Davidsons exclusively for almost 40 years, this bike is perfect for me. I'll still probably take my Harley on any long trips.

  • @ThaSideWeed
    @ThaSideWeed 4 года назад +4

Well, the power is debatable, I didn't like the stock fuelling and throttle response, that's why I remapped it lol. But then again, it's advisable you open the gas up a bit more next time you're on one of these maybe. It's an inline 4 what do you expect. Have you seen literally any other inline 4 that is not rev happy? I sure haven't. My K13 had more torque and the curve was quite different => more punch in lower revs , but...behaves exactly the same, rev wise.
The position is pretty ok for me. Then again, what you rode has bar risers, mine doesn't. The seat I don't find comfortable, and I ain't even 30. Yes, the passanger seat is not the best out there.
    Nor the headlights.
The brakes do not feel progressive enough, but not shit, reasonably adequate with OEM pads at least.
Turn in is fine. Noticeable difference between modes, depends on tyres, pressures, etc.
Suspension is again, fine, for a fully standard bike.
There is litetally nothing out on the market that is perfect in every way, and this isn't an exception to that. But for an all rounder, it ticks so many boxes while not having any huge and not easily addressable fault, does a whole variety of things pretty well.
If you think this is pretty mediocre, go try out a Tracer 900 GT, then ride this again.

Bars are exactly where they should be height wise, super comfortable. 99% of motorcycles have bars too low, bad for your back and neck, quick fatigue and too much strain especially while breaking (all weight goes to hands). s1000xr - almost perfect. I'd even move them back slightly, since I have to lean forward a bit to reach them (5'11"). Riding position should be neutral if you want to be able to do long distance without causing any back strain. Also low bars means low mirrors. And low mirrors suck.

Blah, blah, blah...Matty complains the brakes aren't compatible for the such a powerful engine and then in the beginning he gripes about the engine lacking power. Can't have it both ways. Yes, THE SEAT DOES SUCK, the headlights are dim, but this was an adventure bike that was supposed to be ridden like an adventure bike. IE standing up. We, the public, morphed it into something else. Watch the RUclips video where the bike is run on a track by a professional GP rider against an RR and lap times are only ONE SECOND difference.

Work on high revs. Not a multistrada... 2 cylinder. I bought this One because i like more power on high... The bags are quite enough for a 2 weeks Ride... Without taking all cremes and stuff.. nevertheless i like to read different opinion. The engine gets to hot. This is annoying...

Ive had loads of bikes including Multistrada, 1290 sas, Gs and various others from adventure to sports bikes and ridden them pretty quickly, over distance and covered big days / tours. The only points of your review that reflect accurately in my view, are the vibrations and maybe the seat cover / headlights. The motor is the same as the R and torque if anything comes earlier. Handling wise an XR definitely turns quicker that the KTM and doesnt slide as early. As for performance being crap, i ran against a 2016 blade when i had my 2015 XR and in s straight line lost 10 to 15 metres up to 130mph - so again you're a little way off the mark.
