I grew up and have lived in the Chattanooga, now Ringgold area for longer then I am willing to admit. My wife and I found Lula Lake in the fall of 2019. Last month we got lucky and were able to purchase one of the unlimited open gate passes. This was our first weekend back up hiking the trails since Covid hit. Even though it’s not in full spring bloom yet, it’s as breath taking and mentally renewing as ever. Glad you guys got to experience it. It is so wonderful to have such positive folks living in our backyard that are exploring and promoting our little corner of the word. It’s a great place to live!
Old timers remember Lula lake to be a lawless remote area where partying was rampant. In the 70s only the bold and armed would consider camping there. Area has a history...... numerous assaults including murder. They finally shut it down in the 80s.
You passed my old homeplace! I swam in the creek and lake at Lula Lake. Daddy dove into it from the cliff when he was a kid. Back in the early 50s, there was never another soul there and you have to know the entrance road, as there was no sign.
LOVE Lula Lake! We used to live below in Flintstone and hike with our dogs there. It was when they first opened it and you didn't need a reservation. Good to see it again and makes me miss it. Glad to see it's not become crowded like most other hiking places.
Great video. Lula Lake is a beautiful place and so is Lookout Mountain. I live in Chattanooga and grew up here. I used to catch trout out of Lula Creek and go swimming in Lula Lake a long time ago. It is always been a beautiful place and your video reminded me of that area now I am wanting to go back. Thank you very much for this video
New to your channel. Absolutely fantastic video. Great drone shots and great editing to blend them with your hand held video. Stunning waterfall. Thanks for sharing.
I grew up in Chattanooga and there are some really cool places to go to. One place that is great for camping is the Indian boundaries it is about a 2 hour drive from Chattanooga however. A place that is closer would be raccoon mountain it has some really great trails and is very beautiful
Two things 1.) I love Lula Lake. It is absolutely spectacular. 2.) It's not the only hidden gem on the East Brow of Lookout. Head just down the road to the Nickajack trailhead for the Cloudland Canyon Connector trail. Take that trail for approximately 3.6 miles on a GPS watch. You'll come to a road crossing that climbs steeply up the mountain. Take a left and climb up that. Keep climbing up the road until it dead ends at a power station with a set of wooden stairs. Climb the stairs. Bush whack the last 50 yards or so and suddenly you're on High Point. The absolute highest point of Lookout Mountain 2392 feet high with spectacular views of Lookout Mountain and the Southern Appalachians. Best and most hidden overlook on Lookout IMO, plus the trail leading to it is quiet, empty and always open(unlike Lula)
@@chrisandsara no problem! I should point out two other things. On Google maps it shows up as Tower Road. And you'll also hike past a house with a truck(keep climbing!) And then two radio towers(keep climbing) and it'll get super steep past those towers but keep going until you get to the stairs. Thanks for yesterday's amazing video 🙂
Very beautiful. Both my daughters and they're husbands are thinking about relocating to Chattanooga. We will actually be stopping there for a night on the way back to Florida on Memorial day. Hopefully we will have enough time to stop at the Daily ration :-). Definately need to show them this Vlog.

BEAUTIFUL. Chattanooga has so much to explore and discover . We were there for a bit last summer and loved look out mountain- rock city & ruby falls is very unique. What a cool spot you all went to with Matt.

I just followed y'all on Instagram & subscribed on RUclips. As I looked at some of y'alls pics on Instagram, it brought back some great memories of the Chattanooga area. So many magnificent sites & warm, welcoming people that often serve delicious, delightful food. I saw that y'all are also doing Van Life & love this as well. I presently live in the LA area, not lower Alabama, California. We have lots of free bondocking out west. It would be great if y'all did a clip on some boondock sites in the South. Also, if that's not an option how about some KOA campgrounds. I recall one just before getting off the exit in Trenton. Also, more of Lookout Mtn please. Especially the falls close to Mentone, AL & Little River canyon. I'n closing, I've been blessed to travel a lot & live in AL, CA, FL, NYC & Hawaii. Beaches are one of my fav things on our gorgeous planet. One of my all time, favorite areas is the pan handle & saw y'all have been to St. Pete., absolutely awesome. Another awesome beach, that I feel is even AWESOMEERRRR is Gulf Shores, Alabama. Finally, thank y'all again, keep up the awesome tips & clips please . If you're looking for more places to hike and visit try out the battlefield in fortoglotherp! It's huge and so SO pretty! I can not say more good things about it, it's just absolutely amazing. Go during spring or summer so you can see it in it's full beauty! Seriously not a place you'd wanna miss!
Really beautiful! I'll still probably never go because, like you, I don't like to plan too far ahead. (Except for Walt Disney World!! LOL) It was very nice of your friend to get you guys in. I must say, the drone footage really did add a lot to this video. Well done. I'm still not renewing my pt 107 which expired in August of 2019! LOL Have a great week, C&S.
I have also lived here all my life and have never been to Lula lake. I have thought about going many times but just never make the plans to go. It's about time to get our doodle a haircut too. Thanks for the video.
Definitely make a plan to visit Lula Lake. It’s well worth the drive up Lookout. And you know it’s spring when it’s time for the doodles get their summer shave. 😂
We went to lookout mountain 2 years ago and absolutely loved it. Rock city really surprised me! We are going back with the grandkids. Ruby falls was beautiful but the way the tour groups are set up we only had a second to snap a picture and we were pushed around....it was upsetting.
Check out Zahnd WMA and Crockford Pigeon Mountain further down Lookout Mountain. There's a "rocktown" at Zahnd and also on Pigeon Mt. Caves. Waterfalls. Good trails.

I still haven't made it to Lula lake, and I've been here for five years. Having to plan out that far ahead is really a blocker for us. Also, how do you like the peak design camera strap?
