Terrible way to practice; worse way to record; pretty good way to go mad.

  • 7 'average' recordings in a row makes tom a dull boy.
After a spell of cold weather, my D35 hit the sweet spot for humidity and I wanted to record something. I picked a tune that sounds good on it, did some practise, then figured it was time to record. But I hadn't done enough practise, so I just 'hoped' that I'd magic up a good take. I knew each playthrough had bad errors and hoped the next one would be better. I guess there's some value in keeping going through it at performance speed?
Ah well. Perhaps it's deeper into my brain now, and when I get the mechanics right on the tricky spots I'll be more likely to get it first time. I love how trying to get it right for a recording really puts me under 'performance pressure' which shows me exactly the parts that I need to work on.
As always, this is a Carl Miner tune from his TNAG Atkin demo vid:

Interesting that you also identify a particular weather type or time of the year where to you your guitar sounds its best...my breedlove in the summer is the same way. Funny how that works and takes a considerable about of time and experience with the instrument. Sounds good and i cant hardly hear any mistakes. 🎸💜

thank you! Yeah - it only gets dry round here in the winter when the heating's on, and once the guitar's been in 30% for a week it dries out nicely. But then, if it gets down to 20%, bad things happen!
