STORMING THE BASTILLE!

- Back with some more BITFA and today we're doing the most iconic battle during the French Revolution of 1789. I should have assigned a Guard regiment in blue uniforms to defend the Fort instead of the regular white/grey line infantry for realism purposes, but whatever. I hope you all enjoy this battle! I really want to make more pre-Napoleonic battles and perhaps the elimination of the Swiss Guard in 1792, that could also be really cool. Let me know what you want to see! Ciao.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond the barricade
Is there a world you long to see?
Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you give all you can give
So that our banner may advance
Some will fall and some will live
Will you stand up and take your chance?
The blood of the martyrs
Will water the meadows of France!
Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!

“Lovely.”
“We are getting some shooterss, shooters with extensos” diplex is the geek 😂😂😂
It would probably be kinda hard to make but a battle in Cloud City would be awesome, kinda like the map in Battlefront, for the next Galaxy at War video
For the wretched of the earth there is a flame that never dies. Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
Hi DiplexHeated! I really enjoyed this video, but at 10:53 you said “nothing like that is gonna happen in a day.” but I am pretty sure it did, July 14, 1789. I could be wrong, but I was just wondering if you had noticed the (possible) mistake.
I'm feeling very glad ^^
It would have looked beautiful with all the Britishness within the world
Can you put all of your 40k battles in one folder, that'd be ace
There were just like 30 invalids and 10 swiss volunteers defending the bastille. There was no big fight.
Well, probably its for better action in video, but in all of Bastille was about 20 soldiers :D and like some hundreds citizents attacked it. :D
Huge Waterloo battle video coming soon : D (Hint)
Actually, the Bastille did fall in a single afternoon, lol.
11:50...I am rooting for the Royal French....the US has never been a part of a war that was to our Net benefit with the french since the revolution
Lol, the french were retreating even when they were the ones revolting.
Lol, the lobsters were eating even when they drank their tea

Didnt the revolutionaries have some cannons at that time?
Nevermind was a little to quick sorry diplex;-)
Battle of La Bastille ? The most iconic battle of the French Revolution ? Sorry but There was no battle at La Bastille. The soldiers just open the gates ! Lol

Bastille was at that point an armory, and it typically only kept a few aristocratic prisoners.
THE tricolor flag was not their flag at the time
Mdr (feu de la canone)😂😂😂😂
I hate how they prone someone should like rescript it so they dont if possible
Are you 123 stealthbomber?
Just like old times! Finally back to gameplay not 20 minutes of context. Think I’ll become a regular again...
Hyperkid7 just skip the intros then.
Because it's somehow incredibly hard to skip forward a few minutes?
10 fps confirmed
Liberty. Equality. Fraternity
Check that Americans, "In god we trust" pfff DISAPPOINTED

*quite
Mdr la petite marseillaise en font c'est simpas !
oui oui baguette
There weren't many prisoners in the Bastille simply because there weren't many there at that time. One of the prisoners called out to the people outside and said they were executing prisoners even though they weren't, which made them storm the place. So basically a guy lied, got the place stormed because of it, and that kicked off the revolution.
That man is the Earl of Sade, the daddy (literally) of Sadism...
Earl? Also, the storming came a few days after,
the earl wasnt even in the prison when it was stormed he was moved out of the prison for the shouting think the only people there were a few thieves some con men and a man who believed he was julius ceaser
Thanks!
I remember reading that the Bastille could hold hundreds but less than 100 were imprisoned
IM EARLY, lemme make a joke
Diplex having 1080p videos
We need some Aloe Vera over here
Insert joke about diplex having a hard time getting the French to stay and fight. haha.
french best figther and warrior all time ;)
Dos g Have you heard of these people known as Germans? They have soldiers that have been the envy throughout time. Not to say the French are bad by any regards, the previous is merely a joke at there expense, but Germany has produced a breed of soldier so great that nearly every other army has tried to copy them at one time or another. This of course has gone back and forth with France since the preconception of both countries. I'm not trying to play them up too much but when the British hire your mercenaries and treat them better than their own men in some regards. You might have some good soldiers.
Ray Feltz well if you want to live I strongly recommand not to
The Silicat Oh someone is threatening me on the internet! Good heavens I'm so scared. Sarcasm, sarcasm, sarcasm.
i understand your point, and its bassicly true germn and french are the best fighter/solider/warrior we are all heir of the frank after all, but quadtion of bloodlust and fighting spirit the french beat them im sorry, just the first coalition war ( where all major country gang bang france, just after the revolution and the kill of the majority of the officer ) have win and taken belgique and neetherland, and many other exemple not so true for the german
Actually I think it fell in 37 minutes historically speaking, so military forts do fall in a day

The bastille only had about 15 troops guarding it when it was stormed
and it was only 1 story high
yea. I think they gave up instantly and got killed anyway right?
No they were 200 men in garrison in the Bastille
I thought they had 114 and about 30 cannons
I am not that informed on the topic, this is just what I heard
Correct me if I am wrong
Vive la France et vive la Révolution Française
mouais
Un français sa fais plaisir
Cap'n Blee non à mort la monarchie
Diplex 2017- " historical accuracy intensifies". Cool battle, loving that historical accuracy, I find it interesting how all these events interlink with one another like a chain reaction.
Dragon Blood that's what history is! A chain reaction.
...Historical accuracy?
With a whole lot of bastille guards being lined up and well prepared, and the revolutionaries being both uniformly dressed, well-armed, and possibly even outnumbered?
Guess what i'm learning it history right now
Toby Laskowski 10 grade global
Sophomore AP World 2 for me
Diplex the bastille was a royal prison not really use by Louis XVI but that was a symbol for the revolutionaries to take this famous prison and (also the gunpowder)
1:54 if you dont want to hear diplex ramble
6:30 what did you expect?
I would actually play the fuck out of a MoW game based around the Napoleonic Era (perhaps Green Jackets?) with cavalry, and line infantry. With missions like surviving the Indian Mutiny with limited ammo, and deciding where to stockpile it, place cannons and hold the line against massed armies etc. or the farmhouse at Waterloo.
This looks like a lot of fun, is there a mod download for these types of maps?
The mod can be found on both Mowas2 and Call to arms, its called BITFA, its a huge mod, but sadly the Napoleonic factions just aren't very historically accurate in terms on models, but overall its good indepth mod. Very soon Diplex will upload a huge Waterloo battle video including both farmhouses : D
Thanks brah.
The 7 prisoners were released right after the siege, 4 of them(some counterfeiters) disapeared in the crowd, the 3 others (a murderer and two nobles) were sent back to prison the next day
hey diplex. you should do the Alamo
Don't you just love it when your in the middle of a war and all of a sudden an army worth of singers start singing & every musician starts playing & and everyone is in perfect harmony?
You should have used the Paris Guard infantry for this battle
To start off with, in French history "La Prise de la Bastille" is an event that occurred on the 14th July 1789 in the East of Paris consisting off the people of Paris and the French Royal Army both storming the strategic prison of La Bastille which represented the French Royalty. Taking this prison would show the weakness of Louis XVI's power but unlike a lot of films and games indicate THERE NEVER WAS ANY CONFLICT OR CASUALTIES since the French Army helped the Revolutionnaires by opening the gate of la Bastille.... The famous painting by Jean-Pierre Houël representing canon fire coming from La Bastille didn't represent an attack but a sign that la Bastille had been taken. After the taking of la Bastille the Revolutionnary forces looted all of it's armoury from guns and gunpowder and blew down la Bastille leaving it to dust. Today in Paris, la Place de la Bastille shows the outline of big spheres which represent where the towers once stood.
What a coincidence, im studing this on history XD
Je suis français et j'adore cette vidéo 😁 (I am french and i love this vidéo )
Moi je suis belge
Diplex, now that the Guild 3 is in early access, would you consider doing a let's play on that? Would love to see another Von Hauber dynasty!
Please need some help. How to download RoBZ Realism Mod? I honestly have a cracked Steam version of the game. Is that why I can't download it? Is it not compatible? I'm new on Steam, so don't know very much about. I want to know because, if can get on the cracked game, not to pay any more just to buy Man of War. Thank you!
Mais ton français n'est pas encore très bon😅
Mais il parle français c'est déjà sa c'est rare pour un suédois mdr😁😁😁😁😁😁
Damn it Diplex. I just want you to whisper in my ear about historical events and the logistics of each weapon used, the effectiveness of the tactics, and how you think about setting up these battles in Men Of War AS2.... while you put it in my rear ;)

Jvet oui ta raison
Jvet pero viva la revolucíon tambien
I hope they would make 18th or 19th century Men of War game. Mods are not good enough because they don't have proper unit control or melee combat, both of which were very important before invention of machine guns. During Napoleonic wars, you could make succesful melee charge without suffering any losses. And line tactics and massed units were used because they worked better. They all did have skirmishers who fought like more modern soldiers, but those were not nearly effective enough.
Ok, first and foremost, prease don't take the following comment as criticism, it's just the real story of the invasion of the Bastille, more precisely, the short version of it.
As usual, loved the video, it was a pretty epic firefight, as expected!
So, the takeover of the Bastille was really not that heated. Early in the morning the revolutionaries stormed the Hôtel des Invalides (a military hospital) with the intel that the facility held something in between 29.000 to 32.000 muskets. The commander of the hospital believed that it would be prudent not to keep the shot and gunpowder together with the muskets stockpile, so he had it moved to the Bastille earlier that day, so the attack on the Bastille was actually a follow-up to the storming of the Hôtel des Invalides.
As to the invasion itself, the outer coutyard of the fort was turned into a public space, so the walls around it where no longer occupied, and since the place had only 7 prisioners it was run by a skeleton crew, slightly over 80 defenders, of wich many where wounded veterans unfit for duty. The revolutionaries, wich numbered slightly under 1.000, tried to negotiate, but as the negociations dragged on the crowd became impatient and stormed the outer courtyard, and by climbing on nearby buildings, managed to climb the prision walls and destroy the chains holding the drawnbridge, the firefight actually began as they stormed the first inner courtyard and it lasted from 1:30PM to 5:30PM, when the commander of the prision surrendered to the revolutionaries.
After his surrender he was lynched all the way to the Hôtel des Invalies and there he was killed, decapitated and had his head put on a stake and paraded across town.
LA RÉVOLUTION FRANÇAISE !!
VIVE LA FRANCE !!!!
Allons confrère chantons la marseillaise pour c'est événement qui à marqué l'histoire française.
Actually, the Bastille was not stormed on 14th of July 1789, it was handed over peacefully after a few shots. Most of the killing, destruction and looting on that day happened after the hand-over.
Nice video Diplex but I have to say that there are 2 historical inaccuracies: • La Marseillaise in the background which wasn’t invented yet
• the French flag that we know today wasn’t invented at the time.
But I guess you already knew that and don’t really care as you just want to have fun so whatever.
Anyway nice video Diplex
Heh, your storming of the Bastille is much more gruesome and larger in scale than in RL... I believe in reality there was just about a few dozen men at most that actually defended the Bastille, afterall it was used as a Prison for some smaller offenders, for example the Marquis de Sade.
I believe if I recall correctly the Storming of the Bastille went fairly quick and none of the garrison survived, getting butchered by the Mob who then looted all the weapons, money and ammunitions that they could get their hands on.
Sup...
All I wanted to say
The bastille invasion was really quick tho,it had only garrison units wich where securing the prisoners like 15 people armed with muskets against something like 100 peasants i can say it didnt go well for the garrison
Oh please let this have high quality graphics...
With diplex? No way!
It's the 360p bus
Hey I need help. Whenever I try to load the mod my game crashes and keeps saying that certain files are missing but there not? Please I need help I don't know what to do
You forgot Lafayette National Guards Regiments ! That's why the storming was so hard ;).
The reason there were so few prisoners in the Bastille is that by the time of the revolution it was mainly used as a temporary lockup by the city police with only a few longer term prisoners to important to be sent to places like Toulon. It's one of the reasons they had room to store the gunpowder there is that there were only an average of around 20 prisoners a year.
How about one for the French in Indochina? Maybe the battle of Dien Bien Phu? Would love to see that!!!
There were not many prisoners because it was a state prison where the king would lock up opponents to his absolute power who were part of the aristocracy or the bourgeoisie. So prisons conditions were pretty good but it was a symbol of royal power
it's so funny to heard you try to speak french especially for a frnch like me, i get the feeling that i have the same pronunciation when i try to speak english :D
The canon ball velocity is way too fast, totally unrealistic!!! 0.5/10 mod
the revolutionaries released the prisoners in side as a way of the sans-culottes (working people in paris) expressing their discontent and resistance to the monarchy
In reality this battle isn't even nearly as epic as its made out to be, certainly nothing like this video. Cool though.
Please do more of these more of French revolution.. Just when i tought this channel cant get any better i watched this video lol

We were just learning about this in school..... Thanks for the video
Diplex you should do the empire agains the French with Napoleon as general
The american revolution didn't really have a huge effect on the BE, though obviously given the size of the country now it was still very impactful.
I take back this statement, It did. It also had a large part in ending slavery, particularly in the Empire's colonies.
That accent at the start. Much enlightenment, such wow.
I see that you too are a man of culture.
DO THE BATTLE OF BANNIKBURN! JOIN THE SCOTTISH REVOLUTION!
La révolution est l’une des plus belle fierté de la France

Without the American Revolution we would have no idea who Napoleon is
I thought only one defender was killed and the rest surrendered...
Yea people keep forgetting that there was no conflict during the taking of the Bastille ...
GeneralZ no I think some people got lynched but no one really died in the fighting the chastle was peacefully given up by the army
There was only like 7 people in the Bastille prison during this time
Rifeld breach loader cannons in the french revolution Ned !
but wasn't there only like 12 soldiers inside the prison
