Uglystik is one of the best rods Hands down. You could not ask for a better built rod. I bought 2 10ft casting rods and they will comfortably cast baits up to 10oz no problem. I purchased both of my rods from Amazon. I also own 3 of the catfish rods from uglystick. Every rod breaks. Even rods like Mad Kat, Slime Cat, and other high end rods. As long as your not out to catch Jaws or a go cart going 30mph the Uglystik should last you for years and years of use. Great rods, nice price. Great durability, sensitivity and cast ability. 👌 And yes, these rods perform just as well or not better than most high-end rods. You will have no issues handling fish up to and over 50lb.
Thanks for the upload! I think they are phasing out the white ones for these pretty soon. I was waiting for some more info to come out and reviews and this was helpful.
Ever find more info? I have a Penn 4K size battle 2 reel that needs to go on a new rod. I think a 5k reel would be better but I already have this one sitting around.
@@ArizonaDesertRat426x Walmart is slow to get new stuff. The still sell the Walmart branded “lite” rods that are blue and an old blue version of the “elite” ugly stiks. However lite is $35 not $50
So they're more medium action and medium heavy when you say and if you catch a smaller catfish you'll still have a nice bin to it and if you get a real big one on and have a nice bend also
Update: ugly stik has discontinued making these rods in the 8-ft baitcasting length. They removed it from their website. They said it wasn't a good seller. But they're continuing with the 7 ft, 9 ft, 10 ft, and 12 ft. How I found out was the line guides on this rod are getting grooves. All I use is monofilament line. So they're going to send me a substitute since they no longer carry this in the 8-ft length. They still have the spinning rod version in the 8 ft length but not the baitcaster version. So the substitute they are sending me will be the 8-ft two-piece bait casting Catfish (the white one).
The 2 piece catfish rod (white one) is lighter than the catfish special rod....Amazon has the 2 piece 8' catfish special rod but who knows for how long since that rod has been discontinued ...
@@markrodriguez8173 well I just got a replacement from clear fishing. They didn't have any more of the catfish special 8 ft. So as a substitute they sent me the white catfish 8 ft. Massively heavy in the 8 ft size. 7 ft is super light. And it's going to vary from one fishing rod to another. I've handled at least 58 of the catfish specials. They were either top-heavy or bottom heavy. Some were like a broomstick and others were like a wet noodle. But you'll find that with any fishing rod regardless of the manufacturer or model.
I have the white ones too they are extremely hard to find I just posted a video review also I found this on scheels web site check out the videos and hit that subscribe and thanks for watching
Nice review Mike! Haven’t gotten a new rod in long time but just started getting into carp fishing and bought the 7 ft Catfish Special for the job 2 months ago. Love it so far! My question to you- how are the guides holding up on your rod? I put braid on mine, but after reading reviews about new Ugly Stiks overall getting grooves in the eyes from braid I’m second guessing my choice and debating about switching to flouro. Any feedback would be awesome, thanks!
I just want to get to 10 footer but I was just wondering if it's heavy in hand without the real so I don't like the big Waters series because they're so heavy. I want to pull the trigger on the 10-ft casting but want to know if these are heavy without the real and if they're too stiff because I'm not always going to be on big fish I might be on one or two pound bullheads 10 lb channels or maybe a 50 lb Flathead want something that's going to cover all three
This is the best rod hands down very light rod and bends very easy with the back bone there when you need it the ugly stick makes one of the best rods in my opinion the other name brands have to much back bone ! Hope this helps you out
@@mikewolfe789 I'm taking that thick top and bottom handles off and wrapping the area with cork tape and but cap ,sort look like a surf rod when done.and reduce weight .
Bends pretty good on the tip there. Do you have an experience with a typical ugly stick baitcasting rod to compare how the tip is on the catfish special? Which one would be softer? I just picked up a Bass Pro King Cat. It seems okay. Maybe a little on the heavy side. Have you ever had a chance to compare that one? If not that's okay. I have the catfish special coming in this week and I will compare it to the king cat. Just hoping someone else might have had some experience with it already.
I haven’t had the chance to mess with the pro king cat the catfish special is sensitive but has the back bone for the big ones overall it is a great rod Iam sure you will like it
@@mikewolfe789 catfish special came in yesterday. Just trying it out my backyard it feels really good. It feels like it has a longer handle for an 8-ft. But that's probably because they put the reel up higher away from the end of the handle. Gives you a lot more leverage for casting by doing that. Like you were saying it has plenty of backbone. But it still has a soft enough tip that I could see this being used for catching stripers with live bait or chunk bait and not worry about them feeling any resistance and just dropping the bait. Also this thing is super light. Much lighter in weight comparison to the Bass Pro king cat. The Bass Pro has the reel positioned closer to the rear grip. Which takes more work to swing and cast. The catfish special in my opinion is probably the best fishing rod I've ever handled for an off-the-shelf mid priced rod. Will be great to see some videos of you using it in action. I will be subscribing.
@@mikewolfe789 I've tried out two of these rods. Like most rods, they will vary on power and action from one rod to the next. The two I got are like day and night when it comes to rod action and power. May need to try a few more to match them as close as I can get.
@@hikenmikes8262 haven't had a chance to take it out on the water yet. Just working with them in my backyard I discovered that for a mid-priced rod there are differences from one rod to the next of the exact same model. I've gone through six of them over the past month and discovered that some are top heavy, some are bottom heavy. And the action can be anywhere from too much wiggle to it feels like a broomstick. So what I found myself doing was swapping the tops and bottom halves of each rod to balance out the weight difference and the action. That is about the only way you can get it as close to "perfect" for each individual.

Had the rod about a month and it’s great no issues
I'm getting one of these soon. Held one a few weeks back. Really like them.
