- when I first start using these rods back when I started my Channel these rods were white, closer to the traditional Ugly Stik Catfish Rod. Now these rods look Completely different.

I actually bought 2 myself. 1 spinning, 1 casting. 8ft. Thought long and hard looked at all my options. And I'm using them for multi species. So couldn't just go grab broom stick of a catfish rod. For the price and quality i really couldn't beat it. Handle is the best foam handle I have its not close. Using new picifun reels, hopefully break them in this spring. Nice video bro

Thanks for the share and I'm sure they're quality rods having been an Ugly Stik fan for close to near exactly 40 years. I'd have to handle a couple to form an opinion or purchase but your thoughts and opinion were well worth a look-see. Good fishin' to you this year! Gonna sub before buying so get to catchin'!

Started with Ugly Stix 7ft and then went 8ft when POP and I started targeting catfish. Still have them and occasionally use them.
Love the new Orange and black color, so looking to buy a couple in near future!!!
I used two of these rods (8' casting) last season. I beat the hell out of them guiding and they stood up to a couple thousand pounds of big channel cats each. I plan to use a complete set of six of them this year.
Thanks for walking me through this! Guess I'm looking for an older rod, 2 piece 7ft white catfish ugly stik. I can outcast my both 8ft slime cat rods with the ugly stik, can't figure why but it's a problem that needs remedied quick
I went up to Canada one time and we went down a logging road for two hours to get to the lake.
At the end of the road all my rods except for one was broken.
Now I use Ugly Stiks for all my trips and leave my "nicer" stuff at home. I also use them for when I ride my bike around and fish.

I got the same Lew's stick . Slammed some nice bass with it on the stock line. I think it's 10 lb . Straight from Walmart . I go catfishing with it. My dad said you would be surprised what that fishing pole could pull in . He's seen his buddy pull in monster's on a damn jig pole lol I guess at the end of the day I just want a catfish rod haha

didnt even know they released a new version. i have the original white version , great rod for the money that i can toss around with out worrying about it breaking.
First off I love ugly stick and there affordable pricing. Still own two catfish white rod with green tips old school ones with abu garcia 6500c3. I bought this new 10ft cat fish special rod to go with my cat fish special 7000c3 Abu Garcia. Love the looks but man after few trips casting it it really blows. I have to put atleast 6oz weight to really get good cast, and 4 is it limit. And other downfall is the bottom half below the reel is to short u can't get a good hold it feels top heavy when u throw it...... if you know I mean!!!
Ps. Ill be going with whisker seeker fmj 9.6 foot rod for this reel next purchase

I can offer mine. I have tried the white 7 ft baitcasting and I have tried both the 8 ft white and the 8 ft orange. The catfish specials are a much better rod in general. However, there can be some hit and miss quality control issues with the catfish specials. So I would recommend checking one out in person otherwise you'll find yourself going through at least 50 plus rods like I did to find one that had the right feel. Some are extremely top-heavy or bottom heavy. Some of them are really flimsy at the tip and others feel like a broomstick in the same location. The rod butts on these are either going to be solid or what it feels like you can practically push your finger through the bottom because there's not enough filler. But they're much lighter to cast compared to the white catfish rods. If you go with a white catfish rod go with the 7 ft baitcaster. That one's pretty good. But if you're going to be bank fishing go with the 8 ft catfish special. With casting sinkers. Even though the rated 1 oz to 3 oz, The sweet spot is 1 to 2 oz. I would use a 3 oz on those unless it was absolutely necessary to lug.

One other thing about the new design also is the tip on the orange 8’ rod compared to the white 8’ rod, is not as soft as the white. Has a much better bend to it.
Are you saying the first bend in the new orange rods is closer to the middle, wherea, the white rod’s bend is closer to the tip??
Guides have become a lot thinner on the Ugly Stiks. I have the 2 year old white Catfish casting rods and they are really thin. Those on the Catfish Special rods look a bit thicker and really beefier than the ones on the white rods.
What size and brand spinning reel would you usefor ugly stick med heavy catfish spinning rod I plan on buying 8' or 9' rod I fish lakes for channel catfish.I really your video on fishing line hooks and rod holders

I still have my OG Uglies. I had to glue an insert in. I had to joust a goose incoming full flight. The goose won, knocked me down, damn near off a steep bank into the river.
But luckily these dont have inserts... I cant stand inserts anymore
Try the ugly stick salmon/steelhead rod. 8 & 1/2 foot Elite. Heavy action 12 - 25 pound test,. 1/2 to 1 3/4 ounce lure. They are awesome for channel cats!
That’ll go good with the Abu Catfish Special reel

I use a 9'6 whisker seeker .1 to 12 oz .is what it can handle ..10 to 50lbs of line weight..fast action .100.00 bucks ..metal reel seats .ossom rod.orange and black .also

my brother lost one of my go to rod and reels and I picked up the catfish special ugly stick paired with a pflueger president 40
I looked at 2 of these at Cabelas today. I needed a spinning rod. They had 2 with the straight spinning rod handle but all of the eyelets were narrow diameter like a casting rod. It didn't look right so I passed.

Just bought an Ugly Stik "Tiger Lite". Says heavy action, 1-5 oz lures, 14-40 lb line. Tip is thin and seems excellent. Guides are some of the best I've seen. Try it out when it warms up. 80.00.
They're nice looking rods. It doesn't look they're using Fuji components anymore. And it seems like they're under rating their casting weights. I'll tell what I do whenever I get new gear. Register for the warranty then I go out and abuse the life out of it and if it breaks get the replacement knowing what it can and can't do. I had a surf rod that was rated for 8oz max once I broke it I knew I could throw 14oz on it.
Aye...for the first time I did just that because I thought about that. I got that warranty just to see what I can do with these rods.

Too heavy. Get a berkley big game 7 or 8 ft one or two pieces spinner or bait cast. Way better, way lighter. Don't get the catfish or striper models. Those are almost solid glass and are way heavier. The big game white ones are tubular glass and weigh a lot less and more sensitive. Strip the foam foergrip and butt section off with exact knife, scrape and sand, then wrap the blank with black electrical tape. It's unreal. I've caught 35 pound stripers with mine. I like it better than my $600 Loomis and St. Croix rods. Even tho they are not high dollar rods the feel is awesome

Ugly stik SUCKS! I have 5 and primary use is catfishig. I have two big waters tha I can not even cast, after purchase became disabled. Being physically disabled I now am very sensitive to the work ability of any fishing rod. They just aren’t getting it right. Long rods are for casting and getting heavy bait out their. A rod that works proper basically casts itself. F the colors, get the rod right . We need 11’ medium heavy fast action casting 2-8 Oz casting rod . Using braid will get you further casts with less effort . Level winds are for use when intoxicated. Oh , burnt orange cool and x flock handle , no padding.
