I completely agree! I think a lot of the time when people think of off-brand lego they think of terrible Minifigures and weird-looking sets. But If you go looking for just parts, you'll find that their actually on par with Lego. Even dollar tree sells small lego piece packs that are good quality
@Honne there are two different types of second-hand lego. Yes there are companies that sell pieces that don't fit into Lego's catalog, but a lot of knock-off brand lego sticks to what Lego makes in the exact same shape, size, and design
This is why I think it's important to avoid being a LEGO snob/purest. If the quality is high, and the colors match, people should always at least try it out. We need to do this to remind LEGO that we have other options. Behaving like LEGO is all there is gives the company clearance to act however they want.
Exactly. I've bought loads of second-hand Lego over the years and discovered plenty of off-brand bricks mixed in with the hauls. Rather than throw them away I've always used those bricks for structural supports in unseen places and as filler below real Lego bricks.
This is exactly where Lego gets things wrong, I can understand the additional cost for highly designed sets, or licensed sets (which I avoid anyway due to crazy prices), however basic pieces and baseplates that facilitate city building should be way cheaper!👍🏻
when i did my lil lego village i got alt brand train tracks, was able to make a complete loop for about 25 bucks or so. wayyy cheaper than actual lego track
ONE word of caution before you buy Strictly Briks: the studs aren't perfectly distanced. If you line 2 LEGO baseplates next to 2 Strictly Briks baseplates, you will see the studs don't align at all once you get to the end of the 2nd baseplate. The more baseplates you line up, the greater the error. Just something to keep in mind before buying.
Good to know, but I am pretty sure when you put a brick connecting two Lego brand baseplates together, there is a slight gap between the two so I'm not sure if this is what your talking about or not but just some more info ❤
The ones at the link are not base plates. They call them Baseplates but they are actually plates. They call them Stackable. Which means they have holes on the underside that you can attach bricks, other plates, etc. to the underside. They, Strictly Briks, do have both types. Regular 32x32 Baseplates and 32/32 Stackable Baseplates (actually plates). The non-stackable baseplate ones are a bit thinner. I buy the stackable ones. They work perfectly. If you do buy these just make sure you get the ones you want. James 😁
Thank you for the new idea with this product. I am one that has been frustrated with Lego and the way they have gone away from base plates. I was not a big fan of the other non Lego bricks you guys used but I am definitely very interested in this one.
For the last two years, I have been using these to build a massive skyscraper. they work so much better than lego plats too. They are definitely worth checking out.
Great for saving when going MILS. I still ordered some 4x4 plates in case i wanna make depth with rivers, path, tunnels etc. but these are perfect if you're just converting a modular onto a MILS plate.
I am in a similar boat. I like keeping most of my creations out of LEGO parts, but will often use off brand parts for filler bricks, since they are not ever seen.
Higher lego prices sucks, definitely will be spreading out my orders a lot more, kinda hard though when you want GWP that appeals to me. I only work a part-time "minimum wage" job, I did " " because I've been there long enough to make more then the base wage. So if I'm ordering sets every month or 2 it adds up
I recently have been getting into MILS plates. And I found these exact same plates at my local used LEGO store and they are a HUGE money saver. I am also thinking about switching over to the new road plates for my MILS roads, as the brick build ones. As nice as they looks, and SOOOOO expensive. Thank you for sharing these, and now I can buy them off Amazon. Looking forward to seeing the city expand. Also thank you for getting me into MILS.
These look like an excellent brand if you want 32x32 plates you can build down from. Dollar Tree often carries 16x16 for $1.25 in their Make-it-Blocks brand, which is very high quality for the price. But watch out for warped ones. The Max Bricks 32x32 down-buildable plates from Wal Mart are nice too. They are around $5 each when they have them. But if all you need is the baseplate, and not the extra thickness or the anti-studs, Dollar Tree occasionally has 32x32 baseplates in a wider variety of colors that Lego for $1.25 each. But the last time they actually had them in stock, i paid a dollar.
Price is currently at US$14.99 in Amazon US. It looks like it doesn't warp on the edges like the other makeshift brands. I'll try to get hold of these. Thank you!
Years ago, I bought second hand legos and it had some large non lego plates mixed in, something like 14x24 etc, and they basically just crumbled to jagged shards when you tried to use them. These kind of things we'll only find out later, I guess its the same for some Lego colors as well.
Just received these and made my first Mils base. Love them for the cost! I don't like that they are slightly oversized. One or more sides will need sanding if you planning to but it against another plate lest you end up with them bowing.
i will definitely check them out! the only thing is the quality of the pieces, as a lot of non-lego products don’t have the best quality plastic, i’m wondering how the quality of these will be. altho i’ll definitely check them out, thanks for the video!😁👍
I wouldn't touch anything apart from ...maybe those plates one day in the future. Lego is absurdly priced though so I see the rationale. I've yet to experience a good quality non Lego bricks though.
Could make sense to use instead of baseplates when using MILS. That way you can also raise buildings without using some strange balancing act on top of studs. You also don’t have to cut expensive plates or have to stay with 32x32 MILS plates.
Lego is definitely missing these in their catalog... And honestly, no one is going to bad an eye. It's the same as multi colored bricks under a build as spacers. My OCD is going NUTS when I see that but once they all get joined up no one is the wiser.
I haven’t seen this product in Australia but it looks great. If it is as you say it is then three plates on top of each other equals one brick height whereas you can never get that perfect formula with base plates. So with this solution you can place ordinary plates alongside base plates and have a perfectly horizontal city, or build rivers below the main ground line etc and it all works out perfectly. It is for this reason that I have been holding back from mills plates. They require every inch of your city to be on base plates or that rare commodity, half base plates, and nothing else.
I'm part of a small club of partially and totally blind Lego builders, and I have a few questions that I'd like your help with. I'm looking to get a launch tower for my Lego set 21309. Do you have any suggestions? Also, do you know if these Strictly Bricks plates come in a 48x48 plates like Lego offers now? Do you have any recommendations on what exact color of gray flat tiles would work best for a concrete color for my launchpad for set 10283? Thanks!
I'm definitely going to check these plates out. We have some local non Lego plates that have worked well but these may even be cheaper. Being on Amazon, shipping is free to Canada too 👍
I use offbrand baseplates for MILS because they're hidden anyways and can buy 4 of them for the price of 1 lego BP. Also offbrand baseplates come in a wide variety of sizes which lego doesn't offer or are hard to find/expensive
I got some of their road plates and the new LEGO Roads fits well as smaller sideroads. Also i got dark blueish grey plates from a company called "Besttoys" but i don't know, if those plates are available in your Country. Greeting from Germany and thanks for this cool Video
I like looking for off brand lego at the Dollar stores. Dollar Tree has 32x32 baseplates for $1.25. They come in brown, grey, green, and blue. You can spend $20 dollars and cover a whole large table.
I have recently gotten into building the Lego Super Mario sets with my young son and bought a few base plates because the 2xWhatever size bridges they provide to connect the modules are laughably flimsy. And speaking of flimsy, the thinness of the official Lego base plates was definitely a concern for me, so thank you for sharing this. We will definitely be trying some of these. Now if only I could figure out a good solution for attaching diagonally lined pieces onto the baseplate...
2016 The Lego Group moves production to China. 2018 Dozens of Chinese sellers on Ali Express selling unbranded Lego/Technic elements. You can find double sided 32x32 baseplates and single sided 48x48 baseplates for just a few dollars each. I have purchased several of each, as well as many many specialty Technic parts. Colors are sometimes a bit off but the material (ABS) seems to be of the same quality.

Larger Official LEGO plates tend to be over priced but you can usually get smaller sizes like 4x4, 4x8 and 4x12 at much cheaper per stud prices you need to support them with 49 2x2 bricks anyway so it doesn't really matter that you are using more plates to cover the same area.
i never buy baseplates from lego. i used to use the mega blox brand that i find in the dollar tree. HOWEVER, i just bought the "baseplates" from strictly as recommended here on afol, I am a STRICTly bricks buyer from now on. these things are a serious upgrade froom regular baseplates. Plastic is always going to be cheaper from India/China from a resource and labor POV. While I think buying non-Lego branded plastic block building items is completely fine and should be done, I don't think you can necessarily make this an apples to apples comparison. Maybe Lego is raising prices because Labor and materials are more expensive in the places they do business since they don't want to outsource to an India/China? All of this could be wrong since I know they do outsource to some other countries and LEGO could probably stand to be cheaper but I don't think its fair to say "hey Lego should be the same price as this place that outsources everything to India"

I've been using Strictly Briks plates since 2021 March. It was the cheapest & easiest way to line up my modulars in my city against the new road plates. BTW, there is no "C" in their name (Briks) :)
To those who need just one or two baseplates I recommend dollar tree as they sell a veriety of basic colors but you have to shop around dollar tree in your area but at a dollar there great for young builders and afol display and I use them myself for my Star Wars scenes in my display and I have nothing bad to say for a budget display board or young builder
I just purchased 36 Lekebaby baseplates and happy to say, I have never purchased an individually packaged LEGO baseplate in my life. With that said, I think I'm going to buy some of these so I can top my remaining MILS plates
Bad idea. They're only compatible until expansion and contraction interfere with interlocking. LEGO bricks will crack or pop off. My friend bought one to save money and he now regrets it.

I don't use them, but its a very good trick. If I want to buy them you gave me help!
Base plates were my first liminal space
I like this because you can't connect the original baseplates to Lego underneath but with these it's good
i have in my asian town only strictly plates. ^^
I just purchased 36 Lekebaby baseplates and happy to say, I have never purchased an individually packaged LEGO baseplate in my life. With that said, I think I'm going to buy some of these so I can top my remaining MILS plates
I checked the link and for 3 of them it's $25
Seems like their prices have doubled since you made this video...
Bad idea. They're only compatible until expansion and contraction interfere with interlocking. LEGO bricks will crack or pop off. My friend bought one to save money and he now regrets it.
I have a few and never had problems over the years. Not from the exact same company but they are not Lego...
