Love the reaction, this is SUCH a great movie, omg. It's the rare movie that can be touching yet absurd at the same time - by the end of the movie everyone is in the headspace of being thankful for the things we take for granted - the perfect thanksgiving movie.
And yeah, the F-bomb rant is the sole reason it's rated R, and as far as I know, it still holds the record for 18 f-bombs in a minute.
      Total Legends
      Cheers

Lol! No way man, I've been that lady behind that desk for 15 years, so please resist the urge to rage against the effed up system at a rando employee. Although damn, Sis shouldn't be making personal calls at the desk --she may have bent over backwards to help him if he didn't go so hard with the fbombs.

Kevin Bacon *was* famous when this came out. His appearance was more of a cameo than a normal role. He actually ended up starring in "She's Having a Baby" that John Hughes also directed, and it came out the next year after this. (You'll notice two cast members of Ferris Bueller's Day Off also appear in this. The assistant to Ed Rooney is the woman at the ticket desk, and Ferris' dad is Steve Martin's colleague at the beginning.)
Also, you can tell that the movie "Tommy Boy" with David Spade and Chris Farley really took a lot of inspiration from this movie.

This is such an amazing movie, and it’s also very bittersweet because of John Candy, no longer being with us. He left us way too soon. To think of all of the amazing works he had left in him. From everything I’ve heard about him, truly an amazing person. At least he has this film as part of his legacy.

There was a sideplot that was cut from the film where Steve Martin's wife thought he was cheating and didn't believe there was really a Del Griffith. Which is why she's teary eyed when they finally show up at the end.

So fun story about this movie, my dad was a county cop and they filmed the scenes for the Braidwood Inn which was in his territory so he needed to be part of traffic control for the filming and closing off the road in front of the motel.
Well my dad has always been the biggest Steve Martin fan so he was so happy to have the chance to maybe meet him and when he did, he was just a total jerk (no pun intended there). He didn't really know John Candy from too much so he wasn't all too excited about him, but John Candy came every morning with coffee and other things for the officers on duty and would spend so much time just hanging with them and getting to know the police. He has always said that John Candy was the nicest famous person he ever met and was a John Candy fan from that point on.

Great story! Thanks!!!!!!! Donald Sutherland was a TOTAL ass to me when he wanted booze which the French cafe didn’t have a license for. “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM???!!!” I wanted to say, “yeah, a drunk actor.” But my boss would have fired me. I should have turned the knife and said, “yeah, a drunk out-of-work actor.”
I worked a party with a few celebrities and Danny devito was GOLD!!!!! So kind! He came out to our little kitchen a few times during the night to thank us profusely! Such a sweetheart and much appreciated!
Penny Marshall came out and demanded ketchup. Not so nice. My chef friend worked so hard to make the best food and she wanted ketchup.

Kevin Bacon was filming John Hughes' next movie "She's having a baby" and Hughes thought it would be fun to stick him in this.* That movie was not released until the following year, but Neal's wife can be heard watching the movie on TV when Neal calls her. The scene is, "What if the shoe were on the other foot?" and Kevin's wife says, "I'd go BAREFOOT!"
    * There's a fan theory that this is actually supposed to *BE* his character from that movie. Shared universes. Pretty cool!

  • @DartRipper69er

There’s actually an insanely long cut of this movie that John Hughes had to cut down. Apparently it’s been long lost media, and still hasn’t been found. There was a scene towards the very end of the movie where John Candy sits down with Steve Martin’s character and basically tells him stories about his wife and tells him his whole life story. Steve Martin has gone on to say it’s his favorite memory of John.

There actually was a plot element that ended up on the cutting room floor where Neal's wife was starting to suspect that Neal was cheating on her and that Del Griffith was a made up person. This is why she is so glad to meet him at the end of the movie. The 4K release of this movie came out yesterday and it contains over an hour of unused footage. Great movie!

So happy to catch this movie every year for Thanksgiving. My favorite part has to be from when Neal goes to get his rental car to when they reach the second motel just cause there’s too many good bits in there. From the rant with so much hatred and anger dropped with every F-bomb, Del messing around, the truck sequence, and the physical comedy when Neal finds out about how Del got his car. What a great movie.

Steve Martin is a fantastic physical comedian - one look at his flailing run shows a guy who throws himself fully into his work. John Candy brings the heart, like he did to every role. They're a great combination; too bad they didn't get to work together more. They're both in 'Little Shop of Horrors,' but never in the same scene.
Have you seen John Candy in 'Uncle Buck?'

5:54 The donut eating phone cop from Home Alone (Also “Carl” in Billy Madison)
10:31 Yep. Dr. Curt Connors from Spider-Man 2 (Dylan Baker)
16:05 Ferris Bueller’s school secretary (Edie McClurg), and the scene that got the R rating
21:41 My favorite moment in the whole movie! 👹💀💀😂

  • @Hector-yl1kh
    @Hector-yl1kh 3 месяца назад

Is it any wonder this movie is considered a comedic masterpiece for so much more than the hilarious situational comedy between the two main characters. The movie is elevated by first subtly rendering a notion of how friendship evolves and why any particular individual becomes endeared to others around them simply because of the person that they are and how a complete stranger may come to realize this about someone. Ultimately of course, the train station scene at the end is a priceless piece of directing and writing that brings that notion to its ultimate conclusion. A new friendship built on shared difficulties. John Candy was brilliant in this film and is the real star of the show. Heart warming always sounds like one of those icky cheesy attributes. But the movie really is. Who isn't unashamedly reaching for the Kleenex in those last minutes of the film? John Candy RIP.

I had the really sad realization watching this. The scene with them sharing the bed, while also being one of the funniest parts of the movie, is also really sad when you realize that with Del's wife dead, and with the way he talks about her, that is probably the first time he has shared a bed with someone in years, and that he is probably dreaming about his wife and feeling like she is still with him.

There's a great deleted scene in the plane, where they're eating airplane food! I really like it, you should watch it Greg!

That was one hell of a breakdown. Maybe consider recording more reactions when you have pressing matters right after. Bravo.

I am amazed that 'Owen' is Dylan Baker. I have seen this probably 100+ times or more. Saw in in theaters as a 12 year old. See - - - a new perspective is always use-full.

Because of this film, I always buy the Extra Insurance when renting cars and always keep my wallet on my person if I sleep while traveling. Those extra insurance packages replaced at least two cars back in the '00s.

My friend's mom rented this for us when we were like 9 or 10. and we were obsessed with it. So damn funny. We always quoted the F bomb scene when we hung out.

I got recommended Anna and the Apocalypse for Christmas for the past two years and weirdly I saw it both times, might as well watch it this year as well.
