I’m so glad!!!! I was so upset there wasn’t more help in remaking these boats. I have a few videos out about what I did. If you need anything let me know. And if you think about it let me know how it turns out!
Great videos and kudos to you for doing a tremendous amount of research, applying it to your boat, and sharing with us! Looking forward to new videos soon.
Became a Gheenoe owner this year. Scour every related video I can and found your channel. Subbed. For a novice, you did an exceptional job on your ride. Thank you for taking the trouble in showing what you've done.
I got very upset because of the lack of content and going back I would have filmed more for videos if I had thought about it. Gheenoes are so cool for a beginner and convenient for living in the garage, plus they don’t break the bank. Thank you for the sub and thank you for taking the time to watch and message!
I’d love to know more about your gheenoe. I just got an 84 15’4” and I want to pretty much lay it out just like you did. Mine needs some work to the hull as well so would love to pick your brain
Absolutely! Feel free to message me on Facebook. I’m out of service for a few more days in the woods. But feel free! Desiree Beltre. You should gut it completely if it is an 84. The foam is probably rotten and the wood is waterlogged.
Fishing platform front and aft would be awesome. Boy that looks time consuming, but you did a great job. I fly fish about 40% of the time, having the pvc rod holders would be great. (I break at least one eyelet a year with my poor rod management) I’m curious, with all the hard work you’ve put in, what you paid for the Gheenoe vs what it’s worth now. Very nice Des! Great video. Please post more as you think of something else.
You know I was breaking rods like crazy too. But I find that I haven't had a problem with bent eyelets since I started the gunnel storage! (knock on wood) I love fly fishing on the boat, I'm not as worried about catching fish any more like I used to be. It is just as much about exploring, finding them, and the challenge of seeing if they will eat something I made. I would be interested to see how much the boat is worth also. It is a 1984 and was only about 500$ when I bought it. I know it isn't worth what I have put into it in materials and time. But the freedom it has given me is priceless. I'm going to take a break from the boat build videos for a few months and put up more fishing and camping videos. So give me some input if there is anything you want to see. I will be doing a wiring and electrical video on the boat in a few months. (maybe sooner we will see) What do you fly fish for and out of where?
@@DesOnTheFly I grew up in Lakeland and started Snook, Redfish, Tarpon and Trout fishing in the Everglade City, Port of the Islands and Chokoloskee areas. I’m in Atlanta now. (Largemouth, Crappie, and trout fishing. Kill me. Kill me now!) I do get down to the Brunswick area to fish for Red’s, Trout and Sheephead, but it’s not the same. What I want to do next with the Gheenoe is add a bilge pump and a lift plate. But everything you’ve done I’ve found interesting and informative/helpful. Go have fun and I’ll start catching up on your older video. Really good stuff. Thank you for the time shooting, editing and posting them.
Oh good old Atlanta. There is something nice about crappie, bass, and trout for a while. But yeah, I would miss the reds and snooks to much. I think putting a jack plate and a bilge pump in is a great idea! I have a hand bilge because that’s all I need. But if I got caught in a good rain it takes me a while, hunkered under the mangroves to get all the water out. If you think of any filming ideas let me know. Thanks again for watching!!!!
@@DesOnTheFly I need to watch all your videos and see what you’ve done. I usually do my best, “You know what this Gheenoe could use…”, is when I’m in the boat and I step on something, things are soaking wet, or things fall overboard. With my “OCD/ADD/ADHD” and whatever else I have that went undiagnosed, I love these projects. I’m glad I’ve kept the Gheenoe garage stored. I don’t ever want to go through what you did. The more I look at what you did and with my Polk County/Florida Southern education, all I can say is “Wow!”.
I agree! I’m always trying to improve it to make it easier to store things and access everything. I keep it in the garage as well, I just had to take it out to work on it. It was impossible to sand in the garage. I am not actually very smart. RUclips and the internet taught me everything I know. This guy at boatworks today has awesome teaching videos. ruclips.net/user/boatworkstoday I learned a lot from him.
Definitely impressed! Not to get long winded my sons have taken up fishing which has led to me picking up a 15'4 this Saturday. It looks comparable to what you started with. There has not been a lot of videos explaining much about the processes. You have far exceeded what I have come across. The one concern I have right now is the walls are flimsy as there is no support now in the middle. When you ran the foam board down the side take care of that? Also did you put foam in the floor? I have a couple different ideas, but overall I am after the same design that you have done. I'm sure there will be some questions coming your way after the initial tear down. I am in central FL would you be able to let me know where you picked up your supplies?
Yes! I saw this comment second. I was really worried about the flimsy sides after I took out the middle seat. I liked the h60 because I could mold it to the sides. The 1708 fiberglass really made it stable. If you have doubts you could always put an extra layer between the foam and the wall. I didn’t put any foam in the floor because I was just equaling the foam that I took out. I was afraid of it holding water down there where I couldn’t see it and where it may have more water sitting than I want. I am excited to see what you do. Please keep me updated. I felt the same way about no one doing good gheenoe restoration videos. I also watched this guy boatworks today and I learned a lot about big boat fiberglassing techniques. It helped a lot…. But he is long winded.
Hey Eric!!! I became a Gheenoe owner last night and your post would have been my exact words.👍 How is your project coming along? I’m in SW Florida, so I’m curious as to where the best supplier will be. I hope it’s going well!

Thank you so much!!!!! Absolutely! Super Slick 2000 Epoxy Bottom Coating for Airboats, Jet Ski's, etc.: Quart Kit a.co/d/hIuJBOa. Remember to mix your pigment really well or it looks white with yellow streaks! What size is your gheenoe?
@@DesOnTheFly 15'4" wondering if that will stick well with polyester resin? Just ordered my foam and all. Absolutely used so much info off you're videos and love you're peaceful videos. Can't wait to start my journey.
@user-yi4gg6fh1x thank you!!! Hmmm . I’m not sure about using it with Poly resin. Thank you for watching! I hope my other videos are entertaining also for you! I have more boat building videos planned. I have to do one on the electrical once I get my pump in.
@user-yi4gg6fh1x yes I only did white but the first time I did it I didn’t mix it well enough so it had a creamy smear through it. The second application I mixed it well and it was more uniform.
I used epoxy because I needed a longer cure time. I was pouring 15 ft of resin so I didn’t want it firing in 10 minutes. I used air cell 60 for the foam. And I used a two part mix foam for the front. fiberglassflorida.com/air-cell-t-60-6lb-green-foam-2709.html. Here is the foam link

Quick question pls. Did you only use one color pigment for the airboat paint? It's q nice color and don't know anything about pigments?
