When the mom was talking about her daughters curly hair and said she took the time to learn how to manage it and show her daughter how to love it >>>>
curlysierf I respect that so much than her just straightening it cuz she didn’t know how to do it
My mom never did that. I’m 18 and some things still confuse me but I’m trying to learn.
That was so beautiful 😭❤
@@JHNTR and yet there are so many "relaxing" and "straightening" hair products for black women nowadays...weird😐
@@jessicap8583 her daughter isn't black tho
“No, he’s going to be a brain surgeon!” Priceless ❤️❤️❤️
Mireille Kiala
(X)
Mireille Kiala stop being offended...it’s killing our country...our world ...blacks make amazing athletes so own it
Mario Ruiz don’t tell her what to stop doing we are great at other things to you know
Mireille Kiala it s not necessary to be a brain surgeon to be somebody : at university we have faced so called top professors who were racists .... plenty of civilisations out of western civilisation where somebody is fully respected just because is part of human race ... no matter what condition he is ...or so called doctorates or PhD he is “displaying “
i would say he's going to be in whatever career he wants
My mom is white, thanks for making this video.
My mom went to a black hair salon when I was younger and they taught her how to properly take care of my hair. Thank God for that lol.
Lol black hair is stress. My sis and I are mixed and I still remember her crying while my mom was brushing her hair.
I also had those experiences and sadly my mother never let me explore my other culture and I find that all throughout growing up and even now I am struggling with my hair because I have never had anyone to teach me
Wakka HOW SAD! RUclips Mixed hair videos is your friend. Please don't continue life without the joy of ENJOYING your hair and getting the right products. God loves you and remember HIS APPROVAL when thoughts of insecurity come to mind. Be Blessed. There's even a line called Mixed Chicks
Do you like being mix race? And what race do you consider your self to be
Holy hell that's a book I'm sorry lol
I'm biracial and was adopted by a white family. I was always in awe of the way my mom went to bat for me every time someone decided what I could or couldn't do. You never know how much your parents really do for you and how your experiences affect them too. These parents are awesome and I'm so glad they have these experiences to share!
George Boehringer just because they are white does not make them “one of their own”
George Boehringer racist much
Thanks for sharing, I love hearing people’s positive life experiences in such a negative world ❤️
George Boehringer I lost brain cells reading your comment
Lauren Benton your white idiot
My parents adopted my brothers who are african american before my biological sister and I were born. My family has always struggled with this. We have had to move cities to find more diversity because my brothers would get racial slurs and be asked why they "don't act black." As I would be treated with kindness and respect, some people would not treat my brothers the same as they would treat my sister or I because we are white. People have asked me what it's like to have 2 older african american brothers. They are the only brothers I have and I look to them for guidance and as an example. My older brothers are my brothers, no matter the color of their skin.
Christopher Evers aww! I love this so much!! ❤️
I'm just gonna go ahead and say that your parents are amazing for trying to find a city where you could all feel safe
Christopher Evers your parents did a good thing to move for your older brothers. You are blessed with good parents.
Wow
This has so much power 💕
"No he's actually going to be a brain surgeon!" This is my favorite comeback. No but seriously, your race, your gender, your physical abilities or any disabilities, none of these things determine who you are or what you will become. And if we stopped treating kids that way from, well, birth, maybe they would grow up feeling more empowered to try different things and become pathbreakers.
"non-verbal communication skills of the black culture" lol. You see another black man and you nod!
Aaron D Lol.
i thought the same thing omg! immediately thought of the show black-ish lmaoo
Called "the nod"
Aaron D lmao same
That part cracked me up
I think there is a different dynamic between white couples who adopt black children and interracial couples who have mixed race children. Those should be separate videos.
Peter Du Bois 👏🏾👏🏾
SAME
EXACTLY
Pete D I like the mix, shows different perspectives
No there really isn't... If a child is adopted or a child is biological they still have the upbringing by white parents while living as black person or person of color in the world so they shouldn't be two separate videos it works well
Growing up, I was constantly told that my name, how I acted, and how I dressed were "so white," even though I was raised by two black parents. I relate to this video in a different way, but loved it all the same.
Natalie Clark ey me too
Same here except I am Latina. :(
Literally same and unfortunately when I was younger- elementary school age- I took this as a compliment and didn’t have the privilege of being around a lot of Black people till COLLEGE! So many people are not given the opportunity and are stuck in all white areas and live their lives in majority white societies. I loved this video, especially for those not of color that need people like them to explain things.
I got that all the time. I like black girls but they all say I have white peoples ways about me. Never understood why. 😢
me too
These people seem like really good parents
Then why did they divorce?
They really do 😍👌🏼
Last time i checked, good people want to stay together, not apart. What kind of looney world the left lives in should promptly be categorized as a mental disorder so they stop taking everyone else out with them.
You just said they were really good parents, but they are arguing and unhappy all the time?
That’s not what she said, she said IF arguing and fighting is always happening then it’s better to separate.
Any Black Parents with White Children? It would be interesting seeing that dynamic.

Watched through tears. I am the mother of 3 gorgeous, smart, loving all around amazing children through the gift of adoption. I have an Asian daughter and 1 white and 1 black son. Thank you for doing this video Buzzfeed, it was nice to see these other parents and listen to their stories. I especially liked to listen to the women who have older children since mine are still very young.

" Racism is a LEARNT BEHAVIOR" !! Words of Truth for REAL, but , extremely difficult OR IMPOSSIBLE TO GET TO THE MINDS OF THOSE WHO TEACH IT (Racism) and to give REASONS as to why it is taught !!!!
isa muhammad truth!!!
isa muhammad nawwww g
Isa Muhammad, you speak the truth. The only race is the Human race. All and everyone is just people. How long do you think it's going to take before it's realized and accepted by the all and everyone? A time will come when they will have to evolve or become extinct.
It seem to me that a lot of whats going on is these white people are trying to prove they're not racist by doing all this race mixing and having biracial kids....
Who taught my Labrador to be racist?
I feel like all the people commenting things like "why do we need this video" or "race doesn't matter, it's just about raising your kids" etc, didn't actually watch the video. This is clearly an issue that is not spoken of enough. It is important, it is real and it needs to be discussed. There are so many parents that are in similar situations yet they do an awful job at it (anywhere from completely ignoring a child's background to brainwashing the kids into thinking their other culture/ethnic background is inferior)
Or worse, they make their black child believe that they're white. Like they aren't even that white-passing
For instance, this girl did really believed she was white until 16.
www.xonecole.com/parents-made-think-white-whole-life-now-im-reclaiming-blackness/
There's also a documentary on Netflix, called Little White Lie, made by a woman who has been in the same situation and where her parents told her, her blackness was due to a Sicilian ancestor.
She did an interview on HOT97:
ruclips.net/video/TWHrA_-5Fp8/видео.html
I do agree with you that this issue need to be discussed, because we may end up with children who have been lied to their whole life and who have been they have white privilege, 'til reality literally punch them in the face.
Yes! This is something very overlooked. You need to be socially responsible and aware if you want to have a biracial family
lebana do true
Angelisa Hassan tell that to dating sites.
Race is irrelevant and meaningless. And for whatever reason people are obsessed with it.
White parents with adopted black,Asian or Latin children are more acceptable then Asian parents or grandparents with Half White grand sons and grand daughters. I experienced this myself. I was taking my grandson and my grand daughter to Australia. Both my grand children has their mother’s features. Blond hair blues with the exception of they both have almond shaped eyes. I was getting ready to board when the flight attendants asked me who those two children belongs to and where are their parents. I told the flight attendants that I’m their grandfather and they’re my grand children. The response from her and the other male flight attendants were hostile. Immediately they called airport police and had me in hand cuffs and escorted me to the back room. They separated me from my grand children. They asked me where did I picked up those children. They took my grand children and called Child Protective Services. Than the officers began interrogating for 8 hours. I kept telling them to call my mother in law to confirmation but they refused. Finally I said let me make one phone call to my son. Than they handed me the phone to make the calls. One hour later my son and his wife showed up and asked to see their children and told the officers to take the hand cuff off me that they have no rights to do that to me. They never apologize to me or anything. My grand children boarded the pane with me. Even when I take my grand children to the store I was questioned by police officers and had to verify that these children are my grand children. Now that my grand children are older they understood what I go through every time they’re with me. The most recent incident was last month. But my grand son finally told the officer that why are they harnessing me because I’m Asian that they couldn’t see past that he is my grand son. My grand son was so upset that he cries.
Kheam Hem that is terrible. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
Oscar Blanco maybe they didn’t have the same last name or had a very common last name that most people have.
Same thing happened to my Chinese aunt and her biracial (half white and half white) son entering canada for a holiday some years ago. My cousin was left crying trying to convince them that she was his mother, they also questioned why she didn't have the same last name as she still used her Chinese one. His stepdad my unvle who is white and elder sister with different last names got through together with no problems on another flight. So it happens..
sorry u had to go through that that’s not right
So what is right? The police shouldn't profile people at all? What is the point of having a tax system and police to enforce laws against possible and suspected child slave traffickers? It isn't the police fault that mixed race humans happen to incidentally fall into the suspected categories for child trafficking, it is just the statistics on the matter.
I can't believe that person at the rental complex was really that comfortable to say such a thing to someone they don't know or no anything about. No wonder black people in America are paranoid, I mean seriously. They seem to have every right to be.
eiram31 people have no shame. Years ago, my kids and I were at Target. They were old enough to go to the electronics section while I shopped for a few minutes. I went to the electronics and asked a worker there for help finding something. She told me she would call someone else, because she was watching those two ‘black kids’ over there, because between you and me they steal. I looked at her, and said that they weren’t going to steal anything because their daddy and I weren’t raising thieves. Then left my buggy right there and left, with a stop by the front to talk to the manager
eiram31 that's just hard for me to believe that someone would just go up to you and say something like that, not knowing if she had a black boyfriend, or husband she could have said that, but I'm not believing it.
I believe it. Not only in America, in other parts of the world people also profile who they rent to, and openly so. I think this person was abrasive or brash to say the N word... but i dont think its surprising that many prefer a certain race or color in their neighbourhood, they just are more cautious how they go about implying it. He just felt safe saying it because of how this lady looks,... blonde .. etc, so he generalized that she was the same wavelength.
ALLTHE MONEY - the worst ones are where they tell you the rent on the phone for an apartment and how many units available and when you get there they tell you a higher price or even that they are all full. That happens ALL the time all over the country and in Canada too. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens all over the world either.
Caryn Gibson iam either, will all believe what we want my opinion.
So um... is Jeremy single?❣️😂

While this is very interesting, I would love even more to see a video where the kids talk about their experience being raised by white/mixed parents.
That would be interesting
agreed, I feel like this video has an important message to other parents who are adopting/raising mixed or black kids, but the flip side would be good for children who may go through that identity issue
They actually do have that video! It's called: when you don't look like your parents

Haha yes she does!
For the parents who took in these children out of the goodness of there heart, you are amazing people and God bless you.
''goodness of their heart'' They adopted coloured children for their own entertainment. It's sickening how white-only parents steal the culture of these coloured children.
L5940 sickening? You’d rather have these kids go through foster care their whole lives and never experience the true love of a family? None of the parents “stole their culture” or “used it for entertainment.” My cousin is half black and half Puerto Rican (and was adopted by my white aunt and uncle) They adopted her because they couldn’t have children of their own-not because they wanted “something exotic to look at or steal a child’s culture.” 🙄 They love her with all their hearts and would do anything for her. They would never, ever see her as entertainment. She is their child and that’s it.
L5940
Well these kids do need some black influence in their lives but these parents really seem to care. And these kids have a good home instead of not having one.
I’m adopted along with my 2 other adopted siblings. And honestly it’s the best thing and the worse thing ever. People would stare when we would go out in public. They still do stare and I hate it. I’m proud to be black even if I wasn’t raised “black”. But I’m extremely happy that someone decided to take me into their arms. Life will always be different for me but I love it. My other siblings are white but they still love and care about my just as any other family would care for their own.
I think the benefit of being raised in a Black family as a Black person' is that you see people like yourself so you never feel like the odd person out and you learn tools for dealing with racism. however there is no such thing as really being "raised Black" A lot of what ppl think is being raised black is stereotypes. you dont ova to try to be Black you just are Black. Every Black family is different, having different social class and economic background. Of course there are common cultural experiences but those dont define who you are as an individual I think its vital to have Black people in your life as role models and influences but it doesn't make you any less Black bc you may not fit someone's stereotype of what a Black person should be.
naddy g im so happy for you ignore the haters. At the end of the day your happy.
Thank you !!!
I'm glad that you were raised by a loving family. Race doesn't matter, is the love.
I don’t get what the point is to raise children according to “race”. America is pretty annoying in that regard, unlike in europe people seem to identify with skin color a lot.

Bernie4life When did she hate her own race?
Emily Gilbey AWESOME!!!!😍😍
As an adopted black woman raised in a white family in an almost TOTALLY white city I can definitely say it was hard to find my identity. My parents shielded me from racism when I was younger and it wasn’t until I dated a black guy who’s dad sat me down and had the “black people in America” talk with me that I actually understood some things. There are some things I wish I was able to be taught by my parents or that I had someone ANYONE around who looked like me, but also I’m so glad I was raised the way I was with the morals and outlook on life that my amazing parents were and are able to give to me. They’re great parents and that has nothing to do with their race. Plus, props to my red head mom for taking such great care of my hair!!
I had trouble finding my identity growing up too. My adoptive parents are Caucasian and I’m Guarani Indian from Paraguay. Growing up my parents never exposed me to my culture so I grew up thinking I was essentially white. I went to a predominately white school, lived in a totally white neighborhood, exposed to what people today call mostly “white people food”. It wasn’t until I married another Latino that they made me realize I was part of the Latin culture.

I'm from rural Germany and at my school were only two kids with dark skin, siblings. Their mum was African and their dad German. They were raised in Germany, and I never thought of them as anything other than German tbh 🤷
keeponrockin well you are lucky to have good famy and social structure that dose not promote racism.
keeponrockin depends on how the genes fall.
And you know it.
Germany is racist as hell.
keeponrockin
German is a nationality. Thinking someone is from the same country as you is not the same as thinking they are equal to you in every way.

My mom is white and my dad is black. I prefer to go by mixed. I am not black, i am mixed. Why wouldn't i want to represent both sides of my heritage.
Chille Tid exactly
See it as 100% black 100% white,👌😉
I think its disrespectful when mixed race kids reject one side when they are both. Like your parents fell in love and made you. You are part of both of them. Don't forget that. Don't let society tell you that because of your skin tone or hair type that you are of one race.
THANK YOU! I get so pissed off when people ask me "What are you?" and I say "Mixed" and they go "Yeah but.......what are you?". WHY the hell is "mixed" not an acceptable answer? How could you POSSIBLY ask me to side with just one drop of blood in my veins because my skin is slightly darker than yours and deny the rest of who I am? MIXED MEANS MIXED, NOT BLACK, WHITE, ASIAN, HISPANIC, ETC ETC ETC, IT'S MIXED!
Crysta Blade People might be asking mixed with what in particular...not to necessarily assign 1 ethnicity to you.
My parents raised a girl who is black, and she is my beloved sister :)

My mom adopted me from Haiti. Some people think it was a “charity act”. It pisses me off. But then I remember I have the type of love not many people have. I have exposer and insight of both races. I’ve learned not to care about race. And she’s good a braids lol. I turn 12 tomorrow, I was adopted on my birthday. I love her so much. Without her I probably wouldn’t have lived past 2. I just hope that people become more accepting.❤️🙏🏾

Now this Buzzfeed, is something we want you guys to shed light on! Good job
Wud Up the guide to candy trading was better
Omg, I love your profile pic!
Love this video. It shows that race doesn’t define love
True, but race is a part of love. You have to acknowledge it, understand it, interact with it or at least try doing those things when you raise a child of a different race. THAT really shows just how much you truly love your kids. It's those parents who do these things that make my heart flutter, because my parents often lacked this knowledge. I still love them of course but I often have to remind them that I have a different experience than them because I am not white.
WELL THAT IS BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS TO ANYONE WHO ISNT SOME MENTAL IDENTITY OBSESSED RACE-BATING WANKER..
Til the child has a identity issue and can't fit in with either races
Yes but "color" presents differences that need to be addressed. Color is more than skin deep and white families cannot provide children with the wisdom they need to survive in this world where color exist.
This people are sick racist as minority i would hate to be taken from my culture so that some white people could virtual signal how great they are this is disgusting in my point of view
So I'm not mixed race but I was born in Nigeria but as a baby brought to Switzerland. I speak fluent english and Swiss-German. I never really thought about it on till I visited Nigeria and my relatives said that I acted weird. And I noticed that a lot of Nigerian people that I met would tell me "you are not white stop acting like it". And I just thought wait there is a way to act white. I was born in Nigeria I know that but I was still raised in Switzerland and I love both countries.
Edit: Wow 310 likes didn't expect that thx a lot and I enjoyed reading your storys a lot😊
Kareen .I I can totally relate, I was born in Ireland but from Nigeria, so I speak fluent English and Irish. When I go back they’re always like “you’re oyinbo” or they look at me differently for just living abroad, even tho I’m still 100% Nigerian!
i was born in switzerland and i’m mixed. I never had a problem here with racism it’s kinda cool

This is an eye opener. These parents sadly are able to see what African Americans go through on a regular basis.
Leggs why is seeing that sad? Those will be the people who can sympathize with someone who doesn’t look like them. Sad is the large majority of people who are clueless as to what someone else goes through.

I noticed that it takes some white people having to be intimately connected to a black family member for them to understand racism. They finally get it when it's happening to someone they love (especially their child). At that point they can't deny racism anymore.
madchemist5926 Ya because it's impossible for whites to experience racism. I'm sure they never heard or if before.
@@mrheal420 With all of the talk of a "post racial America" after Obama was elected, yes, you'd think that some whites were clueless to how racism worked in America. Granted, I'm not talking about *all* whites, but the ones living in mostly insular white communities seem to be especially prone to the "maybe it's all in your head" type of response when race issues are brought up.
madchemist5926 yes just like blacks that live in insular black communities are extremely racist towards whites.
I'm sorry but white people can experience racism too. It's just ignorant believing black person are the only who experience racism.

Cody Whitlock omg i see you commenting on like every video I watch lol and you always get here right when a vid is posted 😂
I was about to say that!, I saw him on a buzzfeed video is he famous or something 😂😂
That's the basic definition of racism.
Cody Whitlock No it shouldn't. It promotes segregation that different colored people are different from each other and should be raised differently. That's ridiculous. Will the family with the white daughter and black son send their daughter to learn how to be black? I doubt that, so that seems awful to me that one is treated differently than the other.
Tender Sheep You obviously don't comprehend the message nor importance. Cody is in fact right, as well as these parents in the video. If you live in America or are even familiar with it's past and present history, you'd ought to have some idea of why that was said and of it's importance.
I’m just happy you decide to bring a child in your life and take care of it. All these parents are a gifted. Thank you taking on a child that’s not yours & that goes for any adopted Parent.
It’s always a issue with this Black culture and white culture. Is the child growing in the right house hold? It’s doesn’t matter as long as you Put love and care in that child. The child will love you
DJ NC that's ABSOLUTELY TRUE! But the thing is that we live in a racist country with a long, continuing, racist history. That's why these parents are doing what they're doing.
Completely agree but regardless of whether the child that's adopted is black, Hispanic or asian it's important to educate them and let them have interactions with their own culture. Just so they know where they come from and this way later on they're not having to go through as much difficulty when they get curious about their respective background.
Agreed. I read an article about a group of black adults who grew up in white households and their race was never discussed. They said they loved their parents but regretted being adopted by white people who didn't allow them to interact with their own culture because they grew up and didn't understand they would be treated differently than their white siblings and parents. Essentially, they had to learn how to navigate the world of racism on their own with no guidance. So yeah, race is an issue. If you don't want to engage with any culture outside of your own, then don't adopt children from a different race/culture.
I have a question: What defines the black and white cultures?
DJ NC i
It’s sad that in the United States people really just think in race and people skin color. I’m not sure if Im the only one but at least where I was raised in the Caribbean mixed families are a norm. Its just normal and natural. Actually is very common that a white girl dates a darker skin tone guy or viceversa. Usually we joke around when saying: “I cant date someone as dark or as white as me, Im already this skin color why would I date some one just like me. Maybe thats why the mayority of the population is mixed. It was a shock for me to go to the US and see so many people divided by race. Specially as a child, seen groups of black people or just white people it was something I couldn’t understand. It was just not like I was raised. I wish someday everyone would just stop caring about race and caring about each other.
Exactly, people in the US think its the same in other countries as in the US 😂
Girl stop lying! LMFAO! Race is an issue in the Caribbean cuz my family is from there! There’s a skin bleaching issue going on down there now and THATS the reason for race mixing! They want to have light skinned kids! Ppl from other countries LOVE pretending like they don’t deal with racism and colorism! Y’all jst don’t like talking about it and have decided to stop fighting it!
Lauren Cameron wow how sad that thats your experience. That must be you family then because certainly is not the way I was raised and not the way I saw it at the island I grew up. Skin bleaching? For real? Here where I grew up even my mom makes fun of how pale I turned out (just like her father side of the family). I have never seen skin bleaching products on the farmacy or stores unless is for under the arms or so. Self tanning and such is everywhere though. We are very proud of looking so different one to each other. Even though we might not look the same race we come from the same place.
What part Caribbean you from?
Thought I was the only one seeing it that way. My family in Puerto Rico are all Puerto Rican, but many have different skin tones and they all still get together and party it up. Same culture, though, which could make a slight difference...but not a soul gives 2 shits if you "look different". Now I live in Florida, and it's nothing but petty individuals who can't even relax around somebody with a different skin tone. It sucks, bad.
I’m happy all of the parents realize their black child needs to be around other black people!👏🏽
Why?
Yeah I don't mean to be ignorant but I don't understand why, maybe because they can know what they're from? Can you explain :)
Erykahhh I agree I think ppl can grow and have a more positive outlook of life by embracing all the things that make them unique. They said it best with non verbal communications with all walks of life be it race, religion or anything else you learn how to express yourself to your fullest. Hell the more the merrier! Life is a long wonderful lesson!
That's just common sense that they should be around other black people
color doesn’t determine ur friends tf are u talking about
It's really sad that this is still an issue in 2018
leah klein there’s no “issue”. This is just a positive discussion about race & raising children.
No, I'm talking about the fact that people still can't see past race. I'm not black, I'm a person just like everyone in these videos. These are amazing individuals raising children and they shouldn't have to explain why people are racist to their children. It shouldn't be a problem anymore.
U would be surprised
leah klein I really think you should proof read your comments. "I'm not black, I'm a person" sounds a little fucked up, hon.
TO RIGHT...BUT LETS NO FROGET WHERE 99% OF RACISM IS COMMING FROM - WHITE-HATING LIBERALS AND BLACKS..... DONT LET THEM CONVINCE YOU WITH THE LIES - 1/ ALL THE THINGS THAT THE SO CALLED P.C. BRIGADE HAVE CALLED RACIST OVER THE LAST 35 YEARS HAVENT BEEN. 2/ OPPOSING MASS IMMIGRATION IS NOT RACIST AND THOSE WHO HAVE THE SENCE TO OPPOSE IT ARE NOT WHITE SUPPREMACISTS - WE JUST DONT WANT TO BE INVADED AND REPLACED. 2/ THE LIBERAL/LEFT MEDIA - SJWS- THE ANTI-TRUMP/BREXIT BRIGADE ARE ALL LIARS WHO ONLY WANT TO BRING ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WEST AND THEIR SICK UNWORKABLE GLOBALIST IDEOLOGY - SEE PAUL JOSEPH WATSON, UNDOOMED, MILO, LAUREN SOUTHERN AND RED ICE TV FOR THE DETAILS..
My mums white and my dads black and I get told I don’t ‘act black’ but I’ve literally grown up more around the white side of my fam. My mums amazing, she learned how to cornrow and do protective styles on my hair so mad respect for her
Aurora Tout please explain what protective styles mean I've never heard of that before
xsubliminals ୨୧ how do you know she's not g
xsubliminals ୨୧ - Teach us then please, I want to understand
Abby Liu just hair styles that you can keep in for a while. Cornrows, braids, up dos etc. Some believe your hair will grow faster since you are not constantly combing it and causing breakage.
Marry me, let’s have mixed babies ✊🏽
Anybody who opens their hearts to a child in need is an angel. I can’t wrap my head around why anybody would want to break apart a family like that.
«Learning What co washing is» way to go mom!
Shera Ahmed what is it
Abby Liu washing hair with conditioner
Shera Ahmed that sounds like a complicated process
Abby Liu if you have curly hair it is importantl
Shera Ahmed i have curly asf hair i never tried co wash..i should try it out
Kudos to these parents who love their kids so much they are willing to acknowledge their privilege yet provide the resources and empathy to their children for them to flourish and grow in the world. Awesome.
Kaye Squared children are the best teachers aren’t they
I am looking into adopting a baby from Nigeria. I am a single white woman with three grown children. I am so excited and color does not matter to me. I will teach my child his/her culture to the best of my ability. We will learn together. I don't even know my baby yet, but I know I will love him/her with all my heart.
Gina Dillon God bless you ♥👼 you're an amazing lady ♥👼
Out of curiosity, why Nigeria?
💓💓💓💓💓
if color isn't a problem why are you trying to abopt in nigeria specifically? Shouldn't you adopt in your own country instead and specify that you don't care of the ethnicity or the child?
Gina Dillon why not adopt some white kids from Europe or something? Why are whites so fixed on adopting black children from these poor countries?
nothing wrong with Caucasians having Black kids, just make sure you live in a diverse community for the sake of the child and the family, one where you don't have to fear for the child walking outside
Amen
Kind after kind
@@kingbroadus233 you sound ignorant.
Analyze Perspective welcome to my world
Bill While I respect you and appreciate your desire to state your opinion without hurting anyone’s feelings, I must say that I believe your ideology is inherently flawed. First off, how would I exist? It’s kind of hard to explain, but my father is black and my mother is white. I identify as mixed-race. If in your mind, an ideal society separates races, would there be a moral and just way to deal with me? If I were grouped in with one category, I would not have a relationship with my other parent.
I'm a mother of two mixed race children; white mother & half black father. My oldest son looks like he's only of white race while my youngest son clearly has the features and skin color of a mixed race child. I worry about what hardships they will go through as they get older with my oldest son looking much more white and my youngest son looking very mixed. I haven't really figured out, as a single mother, how to explain to them the serious topics such as police brutality or other individuals making racist comments. Thankfully, we live in a community where race is very diverse and we have yet to have any issues. However, I feel that as they get older and start middle school, jr. high, and high school they are obviously going to start hearing things from their peers and I hope that our very close relationship will allow them to feel comfortable enough to come to me and ask me questions. I don't want my boys to EVER feel ashamed of their race. I want them to be proud and I will continue to provide support and stand up for them when it is needed. These parents in this video are doing an AMAZING job!!!
I'm glad that you started to deepen your understanding of these issues since I feel often times many white people are dismissive of some forms of racialized oppression both institutionally and culturally.
I don’t know if telling your kids they will experience hardships because of their race is a good idea. Let them be, these hardships will thicken their skin, make them stronger, build character. This is just my anecdotal experience.
They'll be fine. :) You're on the right track! Teach them confidence, to embrace who they are (all sides) and that of others, and they'll do great. If they run into a few intolerant morons, who are certainly out there, they'll know that it's the intolerant's issue, not theirs, and a sign of insecurity on behalf of the intolerant. They shouldn't be feared but pitied.
I'm 39, multiracial (Caucasian mom; black and native American father), very proud of who I am (I actually think it's quite cool, especially the ironic mix of history and family dynamics), and find that it makes me that much more accepting of others as well, which is something that I'm very grateful to have experienced.
I was fortunate enough to be raised by a wise and compassionate mother (my brother mostly with my father by choice), who made sure to teach me about who I was, but also didn't make a big deal out of it and that taught me not to either. Yes, I ran into some issues, but that was much later in life and as a grown adult, likely because I mainly grew up in diverse and accepting areas. Either way, I think that I honestly grew stronger from the experiences, strange as that might sound, and even converted a few of the intolerant souls along the way.
I think that, even with today's current political and social climate, mixed kids have it far easier than in '70s and '80s, when it was less common to see, less talked about and often looked down on (by all involved groups). I'm sure that it will continue to get better. Cheers!
One of my sisters is more tan than the rest of us, and slimmer, whereas us other three are more chunky (we have a Maori great grandparent). There’s been a few times where other kids would ask if she was adopted, or even if we had the same father. I think it was important that our parents taught us to shut that sort of question down straight away with “nope, just genetics being funny, we’re full siblings”, because we didn’t want her to feel different, or have that difference pointed out. Now we can joke about it sometimes, but yeah, I think another thing to be mindful of is to make sure neither child feels disconnected from the other. Make sure they are proud to be brothers and they know they will always have each other :)
Emily K I am black and I grew up with my black parents. They didn't teach me police brutality! Maybe because where I live it isn't really a problem.
Wow..I never thought of this being an issue before..
I would definitely love to see more videos like this..
little rose It's weird that it is.. I have 2 biracial children and it seems as a black woman we get the weird looks because it's not common, black woman, white man. My son is 23 and my daughter is 16. Her dad was like how the hell do I do her hair!! 😆 We, thank goodness, didn't have any of the issues so I'm extremely thankful for that.
Swnsasy _ my mom is black and people ask me if shes my mom all the time when im literally with her all the time. Why would a 14 year old hang with a grown woman? 😂so yeah its been kinda awkward my whole life because people dont instantly get that's my mom
Brianna Carter same for my husband and i. No children yet but when we go out in public people often dont realize were together or a couple because im black and hes white
Jasmine Barrett that's sad
I have some biracial cousins. Once, I showed a picture of one of them to my friend and she said "but she's white" (I'm black). She didn't mean it in an offensive way because she was a great friend and a great person. But a lot of people are ignorant to the fact that biracial people exist. To her, she saw a very light-skinned girl with loose curls and she thought "white". So I think people need to be more aware that there's more to race than black or white
I love this video! Obviously I'm not black but my Mom is, and my Dad is white; I'm adopted. I was a child of the 70's & 80's, & growing up in Holland & Wash. DC there were issues, but things are a bit easier now for interracial families. Then there's my sister, their biological daughter who I happen to think is the most beautiful mixed woman in all the world. Oh, and she married a white guy. Their kids are gorgeous. One Love, y'all!
Gysele van Santen-Tomlinson can you please send pictures
Or make a video and upload it on your RUclips channel.
I’m half black and half white too and it was hard growing up in an all white town but when I got out of that hell hole it was like I felt like a human being for once
K Brown: I guess you missed the part where she said she is adopted.
Gysele van Santen-Tomlinson Why do you say you are ovbiously not black when you look like a light-skin black woman?
Gysele van Santen-Tomlinson where in DC did u go to school and/or grow? U look very familiar
When the mother said "I failed him, why can't he talk to me about that" it broke my heart imagine the mother the emotion she must have felt I can totally understand probably the son didn't wanted his mom to be worried such a kind child and loving mother, pardon my English
I don’t understand why people have such a hard time with biracial families. With people of one race raising kids of another. Just be happy that the couple is happy and the kids have a good life
My mom is Senegalese and my father is black. Yes we are all still black however there is a difference between American culture and African American culture. My family regularly introduce African culture into our household and I have visited West Africa 3 times now, and maybe even more in the future. I also have black culture integrated into my house with some old school rap music and learning about African American leaders and inventors. You can't just ignore skin, hair, and history.
Moose 67 the kids won't fight white supremacy is the problem and inequality.
Also blacks are super poor.
Many problems
EXACTLY!! blesssss
It's sad to even think that you have to consider where you can even live because of the color of your skin. When will this stop being the norm? How about those people move out instead since they are the ones creating a toxic environment.
It’s ridiculous. I’m Mexican and medium skinned- the rate of anti-Hispanic activity is affecting my college search. Unfortunately, it makes me hesitant to choose an Ivy League although that is what I have worked toward for my whole life.
a emily Well you know what if I had the opportunity I would do it. Don't be scared to better yourself. Remember you bettering yourself will benefit your family and your future. Don't live with regrets. It might be hard but push through it. Tu lo puedes logra!!!☺☺☺
Logos de Cosmos no it’s not. Why is it that children don’t care about all that? You are taught these things. Yes, there are different cultures and ethnicities but the only race is the human race. When I moved to America I couldn’t believe how obsessed they were with “race”. I’m from Japan and my parents always taught me to treat others with kindness and respect. If you are a kind person, I will have nothing against you. Why would I judge someone based off of something they can not control? It’s the most pathetic way of thinking honestly. And the media in America doesn’t help. Never shows the good. Only the bad.

Racism is a learnt behaviour. I grew up on a poor housing estate- My best friend was muslim. I'm white. My neighbourhood had black, white asian and mixed race. Although it was poor, we all relied on one another. I can actually remember the stage in my childhood where I learnt what "race" was. As a child you never even think about it... I now have a very fortunate life and if I can't have children myself due to my health, I would love to adopt.x
Can you please tell me what racism is and why it is wrong?😞 Maybe I am asking a dum question but I won't to hear your thoughts on it.🙂😞
Muslim is a religion you idiot. You can be white and Muslim.
Cedric Beachy Racism is the belief in the superiority of one race over another
Learned*
No it’s not. Racism is absolutely natural. You actually have to unlearn it. You naturally have a fearful response towards people acting or looking differently. It’s was the same with black towards white people. They regarded them as evil bc of their skincolor and vice Versa. Some even worshipped them bc of it. It’s just human nature.
I’m adopted and me and my sister are black and my parents are white and so are the rest of my adopted siblings and everyone ignores the differences in races because blood doesn’t determine love, having a heart and love determines love!!! 😍❤️❤️❤️
LB24 that is beautiful god bless your family
LB24 amen
I don't believe that anyone who lives on planet Earth can ignore racism white supremacy. but you and your family maybe able to function that way.
As a mixed child that happened to grow up in a “white” household with no other black influences in my life, i can very deeply relate to this video. Growing up my only influences were those of a white background and to this day i have issues of separating what i am being seen as to the world and the way that i behave.
Your adoptive family did the best they could you have to understand that and love them as they live you it's never anyone's intention to un ethnicise a person but they don't know how to make you black so they raised you human ...
Sierra Vickers same!
Sierra Vickers Same. I don't know about you but it's like you think you're white, or rather like everyone else. Problem is that on a daily basis you're reminded in some way you're not. It's something you have to learn to live with or become bitter. Let's be honest though there are perks. You rarely get an unattractive mixed race person, we age slower, tend to just be built a little better. It's not bragging if it's true right : )
Florencia Lami, no, we ARE like dogs, and like dogs, mixing is healthy!! Mixing buries many harmful recessive genes. Bigger gene pool, healthier humans.
It's because you are white, culturally speaking. You have brown skin, that's all. It's good and you should be proud of who you are! Everyone should! White kids and black kids both can be proud that they are who they are!
It's sort of sad when you think about it... that these parents would actually have to worry about something like this, with their own kids, blood or not. That having to teach them black culture is a thing, they (the children) can't just be a normal family because of how outsiders react towards them. Hopefully with more interracial marriages, this will become a thing of the pass.
Racism is bad .But you can't beat evolutionary traits just by getting couple of people sleep together for bunch of years.
However, not everyone wants to be in a interracial marriage. Even if that there are more of them, racism would still be an issue.
Cecilia Cho it's sad that they brained washing kids to be indivisible to white supremacy.
They'll never fight it now just march..
This isn't a white supremacist country. Get off it.
Stories like these warm my heart even though they encounter unique experiences most of us won't understand. I'm white but both my parents are black. They adopted me when I was 3 after both of my parents passed away in a car accident. Our skin color might be different, but they will always be my parents. Even though my appearance is white, I will always be black inside and identify more as black. My siblings and the rest of my family are black but they treat me like I'm no different than them. My parents adopting me and raising me around black culture was truly one of the greatest gifts in my life.
I'm mixed my mom white and my dad black.I've never had any racist encounters.kids would ask if i was adopted but that was out of curiosity.
I'm 18
X Sad if i was to experience it,it would have happened a long time ago. everyone around me has accepted me
lol you are only 18. you have plenty of time to experience it
G R and I'm saying that i doubt that i will. I have been treated more unfairly by blacks than whites, thank you. Black people have told me that i don't belong and that I'm not really black. White people always told me that i was pretty ,that i had beautiful skin.
truth,,,,whites are less racist than blacks to mixed and other blacks in general....im mixed and all of my negative racial encounters growing up was from DARK skinned girls/guys
I'm black and my parents are white too (I'm adopted), I felt like I was the only one lol
I've always looked for youtubers, celebrities, or at least people around my age (highschool), who are in the same situation, but I could never find any
What has your experience been like? I want to adopt children in the future, so I would love to know your thoughts!
The world is huge. You’re not the only black person with white parents? Lol. Join the club
You're not alone 😂😂😂
It's just like a regular family. People usually ask me questions about it but I explain to them. When I was younger we used to send pictures and cards to my biological mom but then we kinda fell off.
Imagine if everyone was forced to adopt a child from a different race. No one want anything bad for their child so racism and prejudice would disappear overnight.
MrMiamiswaggz305 I wish this could happen!
Yeah...no. Putting POC kids in a KKK household will not do what you think it will.
MrMiamiswaggz305 Forced to adopt? That won’t force them to love. There will be an epidemic of child abuse overnight.
chs75 same with black panther. They would just trade children with each other.
Zakariya Hamilton-Choudhry why would they? These parents ensure that the children are never seperated from leaning about their culture.
This is my story 💗 white dad , half Indian half black mum .............they did a great job and so did all these parents xx
I'm black and my parents are black... wait... I don't belong here. :3

haha just what i was thinking ! :D
me too.
Lauren Davis Um. I do hope you were not being serious. You are a white lady. You should not be showing any attraction or interest in him. Have a good day. I hope you were completely playing.
Good looking guy. Great smile.
Kotal Khan why?
This video just shocked me and made me realized how incredibly difficult it is to raise children , so so so much detail has to go into how you treat, communicate and teach them omg
No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it’s opposite. Great quote from my president Nelson Mandela

Actually, it’s chosen ignorance on the part of the individual!
Some of what these people say, makes no sense to me! I’ve never felt defined by the color of my brown skin, nor by the fact that I was born in Mexico. I’m a human being raised in America and I get along with bc of their character and commonalities that have absolutely nothing to do with skin color.
whats with America and Race?

They seem to be obsessed with race in America,(sadly)guess it's their history.Went to the USA last year with my black husband and mixed children (I'm white of Irish decent).I have never felt so uncomfortable in all of my life.We were stared at by white, blacks and Hispanics.Thank God we live in the UK.Nobody gives a crap in London.People should be judged on their character not their skin tone..

I love that these parents put in effort and fully understood. I feel like a lot of people dont put in effort and arent conscious of the differences or they ignore it
honestly, and i look through the comments and see people saying they're over reacting. like they seriously dont live in the same world as we do. I find it more loving that parents think about this. I would hate it if i have a mixed baby and she is treated differently and then i have no experience in helping her through it.
Its quite a stretch to think she wont be treated differently... so just incase.
Would really like to see the other side of this video - black families who adopt while children. This is my family structure. I would be very resentful if buzzfeed didn't address both sides, further reinforcing the white savior narrative in America.
I've never heard of black people adopting anyone who wasn't black... I don't think they can show the other side because it doesn't happen...

This is showing how color doesn’t even matter what color children are and they will be loved the exact same way.💕
As the parent of what Western society refers to as a "mixed" child, it's disheartening and a bit concerning that this remains such a contentious topic to so many people.
RawVegan PeacefulGoddess doesn’t this video prove that wrong?

Amen
Great video! People who adopt outside of their race or have mixed race children really have to put the onus on themselves to stop and really take a look at the many racial and social cultures that they are surrounded by. The whole " ppl are ppl," " its all american culture," "are you telling them to treat their black child differently, that is actual racism" is really just a way for others to ignore the systemic racism in america, to make them think they are somehow better and above racism/prejudice, and to not have to look through any other lens but their own. If circumstances came about and I was raising a non black child, what kinda egotistical fool would I have to be to think that I wouldn't have to make a commitment to making sure they were part of and had access to that part of them.
THIS COMMENT! Amen. Some people are saying "why can't we just treat people as human beings", but that's not what happens in the world today. At least not in the U.S. We are so segregated socially that it's impossible at this juncture.
Sandra Z. Exactly! As an adoptee I would be angry if my parents hadn’t talked about my black culture with me, it’s something that’s apart of me. I can’t just dismiss the fact that I am black. Honestly I’m very sad that I haven’t been able to experience more of my ethnicity.
“Nonverbal communication skills of the black culture”...I missed those skills, I guess
Jamila Brown I missed that one too smh
what the hell is that ? soon as she was saying it in the video ... I saw your comment ... lmao I missed that to
Jamila Brown RIGHT...WHAT ARE NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILL🤔RACISM IS JUST PURE IGNORANCE AND ITS A CHOICE...THERE IS ONE RACE...DIFFERENT CULTURES!!! SO IF JESUS OR GOD IS BLACK...WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN???
We, as black people, do have nonverbal communication skills. You probably just don't notice it. Its equivalent to a mom giving you a stare and you know you need to straighten up.
Like the stare your mom gives you when you need to act right, the head nod as a form of greeting, the eye contact you make with your homegirl when the chick/man you were telling her about walk through the door, ect. Stuff like that! 😂
I love this. I wish more white parents of black kids would understand everything said here. As a mixed race woman I try to explain to my white friends who have black children the disservice they are doing by not acknowledging that their kids will have a different experience than they have had. Also it is so important for our young boys and girls to have a connection to their black culture and elders to teach them the ways of the world and how to keep themselves safe. A parents privilege does not extend itself to their child. I applaud every one of these parents for taking the time to learn and grow. Special props to the lady who watches RUclips video to learn about her daughter's hair. My mama could NOT control my hair. I was teased relentlessly. The other kids called me mophead and made me cry. Or teased me about putting my finger in a light socket, or whatever else they felt like doing. My childhood was traumatizing. I spent too many years in pain wanting to be someone else. I hope that little girl always loves herself and her hair.
Mixed raced guy yep experiences are going to different and honestly of I could choose to be one or the other I would
My favorite part is the pictures of how happy they are with their children.
3:03 the little girl is sooooo cute
This is very relatable,I’m so happy they made a video about this.I live in a mixed race family and I deal with very racist people everyday when I walk with my dad(He’s Mexican but has a VERY dark skin tone and I’m white). My mother is white so I got my white skin tone from her but my little sister got my dads skin tone. When I say “dad” in front of people they look at me and him three times because they don’t believe I’m his daughter.I once heard a women whispering to another women saying something so rude about my family(I wouldn’t like to say it regarding how vulgar it was) ......Many more things have happened but it’d be a long story.Thank you for such a great video !!!!
2:35 wtf are "non-verbal communication skills of the black culture"?

The nod is one 😂🤣😂
😂😂😂🤣 I’m black and i want to know too!
I'm mixed--white dad and black mom. Growing up, Kids asked me which parent was black and they told me that having a white dad explains "it". I was asked all the time why I don't talk like I'm black. Kids also teased me for my "poofy" hair and glasses because having both was dorky. Exceptions were made for other peers with similar "dorky" qualities but of a different race. I sing and people always assume it's RnB or Hip Hop. Then I tell them that it's opera 😂 Stereotypes are out there and people will want to put you in a box. Don't let them corner you. Be the exceptional, radically different YOU that no one else can be.
From ur pic, U r pretty!
