    How good was Alessandro Del Piero actually? #GOAT
    New episode of a documentary series where I plan to present all the greatest players of all time and then give them a score so a ranking of the best players can be created. In this episode we take on Del Piero who played for Juventus for most of his career , not only one of the greatest strikers of all time but one of the greatest players of all time. See how Del Piero ranks and just how good was he.

    Del Piero for us Juventus supporters is more than a football player. He rappresentented a generation was the next door guy that realize his child dream and with is semplicity, he became the simbol of all the values of being Juventus, always present for his teammates and an example on the pitch and outside. He choose to stay during the worst period of history of the club.....and that why Del Piero is a legend and always my captain.

    It's just a shame he got that major injury in late 98. He was always very, very good after that, but pre-99 he was rivaling Ronaldo. We'll never know how good he *could* have become, which is a compliment because he was still world class, but pre-injury Del Piero was more than world class.

    Bro Alessandro Del Piero was built different. First time I went to watch football at cafeteria with my dad was when I was 6 and that game happened to be Juventus vs Inter Milan.
    The shop was split between Juve fans and Inter fans but the whole topic was about who was the real Fenomeno.
    The fact that a debate existed were Del Piero was being compared to the like Ronaldo Fenomeno just comes to show how good he was at one point in his life but sadly injuries got to him.
    My uncle who was Inter fan said Fenomeno was the better player but if Del Piero stayed injury free he would've had a few Ballon D'or under his name.

    Del Piero will always be the peoples champ. Types of players as Baggio, Del Piero and Totti, well Italy have to wait a long time to re-live anything like that again. The differences between Del Piero and other Champions is that Del Piero was always respected by all fans, every coach and club. For me he was the best because the persona and character combined with his talent, leadership and humility, the numbers speak for themselves. Sadly people don’t give him all the cred he deserves.

    In 96-97 he was unstoppable, you have to be good to get Baggio to sit on the bench. He bulked up too much physically after the injury at Udine. I remember when he came back he had lost his pace and in euro 2000 he did not look like his former self. His technique allowed him to partially overcome that problem and he managed to still do great things later on in his career.

    • @cimmerian5194
      @cimmerian5194 3 года назад +7

      I honestly think that post Serie B seasons are some of his best in the entire career. People tend to underrate Del Piero because he was always a team player and wasn't trying to be flashy. He was a different player but he aged well. This video is ridiculous btw, so is this channel. I came across it today lol, this guy has no clue about football and interpretes statistics like he's 6 years old.
      Btw, one of the reasons why Del Piero was never so good when playing for national team is because these are short competitions with a big random factor, and unless you have a team made with players mostly from two clubs (like Spain's golden generation or Italy at 2006. WC), you can't really make any super duper tactics. There is simply not enough time to train players since football itself has a high random factor and you need longer competitions to determine who is the best. Back to my point. Unless you have structured teams like Italy or Spain at that time, you really need some forwards with the "one man against the world" mentality, who are willing to try absolutely anything, waste some balls or chances etc. Baggio was like that. Del Piero was technically as good as Baggio, but he was much more disciplined and he fit in way better in long campaigns like Serie A, where consistency was needed from game to game and where you had a long-term plan. Within that structure he sure as hell had some tremendous magic moments, but he was always more of a team oriented player and was not prone to wasting balls like you sometimes need in WC or EC (nothing wrong with shooting 10 times from 20 yards there).

    - his Serie A debut was against Foggia, not Milan and first score was against Reggiana, not Genoa, as you could understand from the video,
    - it would be better to present highlights from particular time frames of Del Piero's carrer during talking about it. For example you were talking about reaching 3rd concecutive UCL final against Real Madrid, but highlights shown were from 2-3 years earlier and so on.

    ,some times it's a one player effort goals, when he fall back to half field and get the ball and makes his way to the goal,and who can do this but few,Del piero was of course one of them,even where he is surrounded by defenders that have better physicality than him he manage to score or to make a unbelievable assists and causing the crowds to go out of their minds, every where on the planet in Italy,in Kuwait in 1997-98 and in my beloved City of Alexandria from 1999 until 2001-2002,, I always wanted to be Alessandro Del piero, and he is one of the few really talented footballers that you believe they can make a change in a big game in just 5 or 10 mins of playing,when u see them warming up behind the line, you say, OK here is delpiero, what if he fucken scores and in 5 mins u r jumping off ur chair because he scored,,, that was del piero,and who co do that better than him, much respect and love for a real football legend that a lot of people donot remember when they talk about best ever played that game ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

    You called him your favorite player
    Did you even watched him play ?

    I would ask you, politely, to do one of this: Just how GOOD was .... Actually? Video with Francesco Totti(imho a little bit better than Del Piero)

      @@SonnyK248 Baggio was a great footballer, but he had one big problem. He just lacked the "killer instinct" to really become one of the greatest of all times. I.e. he would not take a penalty against his old team because he felt bad. That's not the kind of mentality you expect from a top player. In a way similar to Totti. Totti could have become a real superstar, but he refused to take the challenge for a bigger team. Really wanting to become and have a true top player mentality is part of what makes a player even bigger than just a great footballer.

    • @SonnyK248
      @SonnyK248 3 года назад +2

      @@hoiduda so that's your reasoning? He's a world player of the year winner and finished forth on fifas greatest players of the century in 1999. He's fifth all time in scoring in Serie A in spite of not being a number 9. But because he wouldn't take a penalty against his old club he's not a great player... Baggio is one of the all time great players. The best Italian forward by such a margin that it's not even close. And he did all this on one leg. He shattered his meniscus and ACL when he was eighteen. They thought his career was over before it even began. And he went on to have a legendary career for two decades. The guy was still one of the best players in the league when he retired. So to argue about his mentality is ridiculous.

      I mean he was great player but a bit of an unfulfilled promise.
      Many players were better. Many football fans fail to mention players like Cantona or Bebeto as legends because there were many better players.

      @brunaciompi1717 Год назад

      He was a legend but he was rather overrated for most of his career after his knee injury. I think many do not want to acknowledge it and prefer to remember him as just another great player and small case football legend.

      Absolutely, a pure Juventus legend.
      But, overall, Totti was better.
      Totti was a better Playmaker(the skill that, imho, put Totti ahed of Del Piero)
      More powerful
      More stamina
      Same(but different style) technique
      Almost the same amount of goals(playing for a worst team, usually)
      when Totti became an italy international, was the starting player, even in the 2006 world cup when Totti come back from a massive injury, in record time and wasn't at his top physical shape.
