He was a brilliant man... Fascinating to listen to these talks. And what he predicted is happening now in our society....
True genius is never irrelevant and Gore Vidal is genius.
He hit on several important points, in that talk, but the most important was detailing the period, between 1945 and 1950, as THE most important 5-year span in US History. Most of our history, since that period, is largely unknown, to us.
Thank you. I'm digging up all the Gore Vidalia I was deprived of when it was current, and found this speech particularly 'gemmy' as a geologist might say of a fresh find.

he was an honest voice, if a pessimistic one.

No clapping by an audience at every agreeable point he spoke.
Short direct questions via the chair.
No roaming in-audience microphone for waffling questions.
Short, witty answers.
What we sow so shall we reap...is time for REAP here now????

Nothing has improved.
Vidal's observations all went unheeded.
Every point mentioned has worsened.
No better body politic has emerged.
No people's revolution has arrived.
The unipolar US hegemony is being challenged and dismantled.
The Empire is gradually collapsing from within.
All good -- from this particular outsider's point of view.
Most of the questions are childish and non-nuanced.
