*Smiles to camera* "Hi, my name's Chase Reeves. And I'm about to review the shit out of this bag." Love it, dude. That's the sort of silliness that brightens my day.
This if one of the better, of the many, Synapse 25 reviews available, BUT there is one thing that just about all of them, including Tom Bihn's own description, fail to discuss. On the back, on either side of the mesh, there are two large gussets or panels. They have a narrow eye shape that stretches the height of the bag. These two, simple, typically overlooked, panels are the reason this bag brilliantly straddles the line between an EDC pack and a one bag travel pack. Depending on how this bag is packed (or, more so, how much stuff you cram in the main compartment), these panels can either be part of the back or the side of the bag. When you fill up the main compartment, because of the design of these panels, they will naturally become part of the side of the bag, creating a narrower back and a deeper main compartment. However, when the main compartment is relatively empty, these panels remain part of the back of the bag, creating a wider back and much thinner main compartment (which means a far less "bulky" bag for EDC). It's so simple, yet so fucking brilliant. I just got back from 2 weeks of bummin' around Netherlands and Germany with this as my only bag. When I travel, I def prefer the one bag, carry on only approach, however, I also like to have an EDC bag, for when I'm out exploring a new city for hours at a time. In the past, I've generally just packed one of the "packable" backpacks into my main pack. They are great options, as they are relatively small when packed, yet still serve a purpose, but can be very uncomfortable for all day wear, and shit organization (usually just one big pocket and one smaller pocket. This is where the Synapse 25 fucking shines. On travel days, I have it packed full, and those gussets/panels providing additional depth are needed; yet, when I get to my hostel, I can pull out my laptop (and charger), packing cube with my clothes, and my toiletry bag, and I'm ready to hit the town. This bag fucking rules.
Still misses a side mesh pocket and compression strap if you ask me. Otherwise, this pack looks epic. The water bottle pocket is flawed in my eyes as you have to take the bag off to get the bottle back in. It would also cause compression to the front top pocket. As someone who travels a lot, I simply cannot do without a mesh side pocket and compression strap. For the town, for the beach, for the hills or for general travel.
Enjoyed your review. I was uninterested in Bihn bags for a few years mainly because of the "boring" aesthetic, but boy, have I changed my tune. Tom Bihn is an expert at designing every element with simplicity and utility in mind. The resulting aesthetic isn't "cool" in the trendy flashy sense, but it is beyond cool to bag nerds like us who appreciate the understated perfection of a bag that feels like it was made just for you. These bags draw no attention to themselves, and that is what I love about them. They are quietly confident. There is nothing silly or faddish to embarrass you in 10 years' time when you grow up a little or want to use the bag for an entirely different scenario. They don't scream out to thieves "technology inside!" They can be outdoorsy, and yet they are sophisticated enough to fly under the radar at even the stuffiest business meetings. They are so versatile. Bihn bags have spoiled me to other bags, and besides the artful configurations and impeccable quality, the O rings are a unique Bihn innovation I can no longer live without. Once you learn the art of tethering, you will never go back. I now don't want to use my many other nice bags because they have no tether points! It gives you such peace of mind knowing everything stays where you put it, and you never have to scrounge to find something. If I were you, I would put my clear baggies of tiny stuff in pouches instead, and tether them to the pockets you want them to live in. There will never be the fear that something tiny might fall out. And you can move your stuff easily from bag to bag that way. Since I got bitten by the bihn bug, I have purchased a variety of bags, every one ingenious and useful. I have not found any travel or carry need yet (except maybe hardcore backpacking or black tie events) that a Bihn bag can't solve elegantly.
Can you elaborate on your adventures with the tethering? I noticed the feature a while back when looking at bags but didn't like the lack of a clam shell style opening in Tom Bihn bags.
Tristan Claude the Tom Bihn forum is a great resource for questions. As for my own "adventures in tethering" (ha!) I use several small zippered pouches inside my main bag, tethered to o rings so that I can easily locate anything in seconds. One pouch has all my tiny personal stuff (lipstick, mints, gum, eye drops, aspirin, bandaids, etc). Another contains my small electronics stuff (thumb drives, cables, adapters, etc). One has my headphones. Another is just my computer charger. One is my wallet. I group the small bags by their use, and clip them in according to how often they are accessed. I "deep stash" in an internal pocket the pouches of stuff I only need sometimes (computer charger, adapters) and put more often accessed pouches in more accessible spots. The great thing about pouches is that I can easily clip them to different Bihn bags when I switch bags, and still maintain my structure, and still feel confident I left nothing behind. It is a lot easier to move 5 pouches of tiny stuff than fifty tiny fiddly objects.
I love your enthusiasm about bags. I feel the same way. I tried to watch this with my family, but they just cleared the room when I excitedly announced a new bag review. I'll be traveling with the S25 for the first time this week and have already packed and repacked three times. It's tempting to take more than I need just because it fits. Keep these entertaining and informative reviews coming!
16:44 They actually fixed the handle in recent Synapse 25 versions! Just got one myself, and now they fold and sew the handle, so it's thinner, more robust, and easier to grab
I have a Synapse 19 and 25, older models with the shoestring like zipper pulls,(Not a fan, and contacted TB about the pulls) Took a year or two, but now these bags come with the YKK awesome ass zippers. Just ordered a new 25, 525 Ballistic. These bags are flat ass bullet proof, and you are correct, such a pleasure to use when traveling. I have their Zephyr brief case as well for past 6-7 years, it hardly shows wear at all, no tearing. It is the smaller version of the Empire builder, which took TB 3 years to design. Talk about organization!!! I whole heartedly endorse this company, best build quality I have ever seen. I LOVE your reviews, the screams, and your delivery. I am now a new subscriber.
Have had this bag for a number of years but this is the first detailed review I've seen. I've traveled extensive, mostly overseas, and the S25 has served me well. It is very easy to over pack this bag cause it holds ALOT. Using packing cubes is a must - I normally have a change of clothing, IPAD and assorted cables and battery supply, mini CPAP, TSA cleared toilet kit, lightweight rain jacket, some snacks and The Grayl water filter. There is plenty of room left, so at times I've been tempted to over pack. Great bag
My Synapse 25 just arrived and I'm sitting around with it on my back....this review is what sold me on the bag. I am already in love with it!! Taking just this one on a week long trip to the UK in May. Thank you Chase for the entertainment and great review!!
I never thought a backpack review could be SO entertaining and wonderful. LOL I've been wanting a Synapse for a couple years now and this just convinced me to get one.
Been waiting on this review for a while... did not disappoint. Really glad you liked it. I've had mine for about 2 years now and loving it. Looking forward to more Tom Bihn reviews. Cheers.
OneHarp I think people in my circle are hesitant to tell me about their upcoming trips because the first thing I want to know is what bag are they taking and how they are packing. LOL
thesoulinspiration I do exactly the same thing! I also help my friends and family pack for trips. And the first thing I want to know when they get back is how their packing worked out.
Bought this based on your review and traveled 8 months around asia and europe in rain, snow and high temps, it worked wonderfully minimally as a day bag or carryon. No problems at all. I love the simplicity of it as it doesn't stand out in any country and the durability of it feels great so far.
A decent backpack that in particular costs this much, needs to have a good back support that doesn't cost extra. BS on the clothes as padding...I don't take clothes to work. This in my opinion is the big Achilles heel is this pack.
My Synapse 19 has been my EDC for over 4 years. love the thing. Mine has the black 525 ballistic outer fabric. If i had to do it again i would get the 25 versus the 19, but this bag is so amazing that the 19 can flex and fit any role i need it to.
Great review Chase!! I own (and love) the same pack, and think Tom Bihn makes some of the best bags/packs/accessories on the market. One other awesome thing about Tom Bihn is their stellar customer service; they are pretty much unparalleled in my experience compared to other companies. Anyway, keep up the great work, and enjoy your Synapse!!
Thanks for doing these videos - they're awesome. While I have bags from many of the brands you review, I really agree about the Tom Bihn (despite it's pedestrian/utilitarian look). It is simply the best backpack you can get. The functional design is incredible...simply splendid to use and by far the most comfortable on your back.
Quite surprised I watched a bag review that's more than 20 minutes long. But watching more than five bag review videos, and looking forward to more? Now I've developed an obsession for a philosophy of carry and travel.
Well, I watched this video about 5 times, and long story short, my Tom Bihn Synapse 25 arrived today! The great search for the perfect bag has officially ended. Thank you!
I'm about to purchase this exact bag in black halcyon exterior and iberian interior. It is currently in production but they informed me that it will be available in a couple of weeks. I have been using my Totuga Setout but I only fill half the capacity for a 10 day trip to Europe. I'm thinking of using this Synapse for my 11 day trip to Japan. I'm pretty confident it will work fine. I kind of agree with what you say about the look of the bag. In fact the black halcyon is the only fabric/color I like of Tom Bihn bags. But I really appreciate the organizational structure. It is well thought out in terms of placement of spaces, each pocket/compartment with its own uncompromised space (i.e. not eaten into by stuff in the adjacent pockets), and simple enough that every pocket and compartment space can be easily and fully utilized. I have a Tom Bihn Co-Pilot (in this exact color combo) that I can easily use for a one-night trip. It has a similar structure, with two good-size pockets on either side, a water bottle pocket in the center, and a main compartment with pockets, total of 10L capacity. I am not a total Tom Bihn enthusiast who would buy anything Tom Bihn. But I think these simple small-ish size bags are where they really shine.
I believe I spent most of my Saturday watching your bag reviews. To the point my wife got pretty concerned! In the end I just purchased this bag as it seems the manufacturer really has taken the time to think of what is actually necessary for the user. Thank you and keep up the amazing and humorous reviews! Subscribed gladly but hesitantly because of my bag addiction. :D
Love it Chase. This bag obsession is new to me. I can't believe how excited I get about this show about bags. I just bought the Patagonia Headway after your review. First road test will be a 5 day business trip to Botswana at the end of March. I'll let you know what I think.
Given how expensive this bag is, thanks for the detailed views and explanations - worth all 26 mins 27 secs of viewing time. It looks less metro in the Black Halcyon than some of the other Bihn fabric/color choices. On that handle thing: I wonder why so many companies don't do better on the haul handle? I have bags with the fabric strap sewn in half the way you describe, but they aren't any better for me. With respect to the way it is now, I think it would cut the hand less if sewn on the top panel instead of being sewn into the top panel/back panel seam which twists it to an angle.
Started listening to the Fizzle Show! Pretty obvious now why Chase's bag reviews are so entertaining. He's obviously got a ton of production experience and is just as entertaining on the podcast; really enjoyable show.
Thanks for this great and thorough review, Chase. I really like and appreciate all the features that they put into the bag, but I'm not into their looks at all. 100% agree to your "looks" conclusion.
Bo I wish you also would review some of the mainstream bags, such as Everyday Backpack, Minaal or even Tom Bihn. Keep up the good work. Both Chase and you are my favourite RUclipsrs about backpack reviewing.
I have an original Synapse (19) and recently did the one bag travel thing - a two day, one night stint. It was perfect. Getting through the airports was a breeze. These backpacks are really amazing. And your review was awesome, too. I even (especially) enjoyed it even though I know the bag already!
I bought the Minaal bag based mostly on your video. I love it. Been living out of it for 6 months. Now I am just addicted to your vids. I don't need another bag but I want this one now. LOL
I rarely like videos unless I absolutely love them and without a doubt I liked this before it was halfway. You have a brilliant personality; hilarious and down to earth. Your daughter is going to be so lucky, except maybe some cliche embarrassment through her school years lol. And I'm 100% saving up for this bag.
Big fan of your videos. You're style of story telling keeps me watching. After the arrival of your daughter, I suggest you tackle travel/packing tips for parents. I know I could use a few...
Philosophy of Carry strikes again! Cracks me up every time. Like all the other bag nerds, I loved the admission at the end that we can't really share (too much) with our friends. Loved the review. Would love to see one on the Western Flyer and/or the Smart Alec if you get to pick. Those are similar in capacity to this one, but designed completely differently, so it seems like it would be an interesting contrast. I find that 25-30L is the sweet spot for most of my travels. By the way, it is worth mentioning to those that don't know, that most all of the Tom Bihn bags come in the Halcyon fabric like you reviewed here, but also come in the tough Cordura nylon fabric as well (with the Cordura bags being slightly heavier and more durable, and the Halcyon a little bit lighter). I personally like the looks on the Cordura bags a little better (I have their Daylight Briefcase and Backpack in blue Cordura). Anyway, great work as always. Thanks for the attention and details you put into these reviews. You are one of the only reviewers out there that provides enough detail and inside and outside product shots (including actually wearing the bag, duh) for a viewer to know by the end of the review whether a bag is for them or not.
I got this bag today in the blue halcyon fabric and just wanted to mention that it is now sold with the top grab strap sewn in half, as Chase suggested.
Thank you! That should have been part of my original statement. Not only did I discover this bag via you/your channel, it's actually been improved between then and now, possibly also as a direct result of your intervention. So, thanks! I really like this backpack!
I'm on an extensive trip right now which will be on and off for numerous months at a time with my Synapse 25. Its identical to yours except I have the original halcyon pattern. The only other bag I carry along is the Tom Bihn cafe messenger bag I use as a purse. Love these bags! Good review. Thanks!
Excellent video Chase! I also feel this way about bags. And stuff in general. I hope you've thought about doing a Synapse 19 / 25 side-by-side comparison video. From my googling this appears to be a hot topic on the Tom Bihn forums too. I guess it's tough choice for many, and one that I'm wrestling with at the moment.
Howdy Chase. I'm one of those guys (gal, actually) who says 'it's fine. it looks great'. I want a 25L hiking/travel pack - I'm going down from 35L, down from 37L, down from 42L. Other than biking hydration packs, it seems sort of hard to find a small pack with a sternum strap, much less a waist belt...I'm learning how to think 'minimalist'. I Really wish I could fit all my travel + EDC 'Stuff' into my 5L leather backpack/purse - it has 7 pockets! Love your reviews, no B/S attitude, and energy. thanks!
Great review. Just wondering if anyone can comment on the comfort of the shoulder straps, compared to a 5.11 Rush 12, Mystery Ranch Urban Assault 21 or an Osprey Quasar? While these four above mentioned bags are super comfy, they don’t meet my edc needs. I currently edc a Maxpedition Riftpoint that meets all my edc needs except for comfort. The shoulder straps are thin and not very comfortable and the back panel doesn’t sit well on my back. I’m in Australia and Tom Bihn international shipping isn’t cheap so I’m looking at $300-$400 AUD to get a Synapse delivered.
Yep. It's literally the only negative for me personally. And quite frankly might be a deal breaker. This would be an easy bag for thefts to target and there seems to be no way to put any kind of lock on a fair number of the zippers. The bottom pocket especially looks like it would be super easy to get into and you would never notice since it hangs so low.
Thank you for covering the look of this bag. It's my one hang up about buying one! It's silly but it's so true the outside just doesn't give you that exciting feeling to see it!
I feel similarly. But a) it becomes such a great companion in use, and b) they are updating it in a few weeks and it looks slightly better (just slightly).
Pulled the trigger yesterday. Can't wait to nerdily pack it out. I think it's going to be EDC and short term travel. I've got the Wandrd Hexad Access for the big trips. I'm curious if I can squeeze the Synapse 25 flat INTO the Wandrd for daily carry. Hmm....
Chase, man. I have a suggestion. When you review a bag that you have used as a single travel bag can you explain more of the logistics of that travel. I want to know how many days, how much clothing you brought, did you wash your clothes, were you unloading it and then using it as a day pack? Etc. Cause you say that "yeah I traveled with this for 5 days" but I want to know the reality of that. Honestly you could do this as it's own video but ya know do whatever you want. I travel often and try to keep it as light as possible but I would love to know how you do it.
I love your videos. Can't get enough of them. I have this thing about backpacks where I feel like I'm in this quest to find THE PERFECT BACKPACK--the one that's going to be your companion through all your adventures or whatever. But really, I'm mostly in the city/at home, watching backpack videos and the many tv shows I follow.
i absolutly love this bag! i have to disagree about you guys not liking the look because i really want my bag to help me blend in and this "school bag" look does that in spades. yea, a goruck can do that too but this bag keeps everything you need on a plane one zipper away i never open the main compartment and i will never go back to carrying a laptop against my back again. soooo nice to carry.
Does the open pocket in the main compartment keep the contents from bottoming out when the bag is on the floor? I want to put an iPad Pro in that pocket without having to buy a cache.
Nice review! I'd love to see more bags designed with the laptop sleeve in the middle. But I wouldn't buy this one for the design. I have an Aeronaut 45 from Tom Bihn for several years, it's really durable. But aren't you annoyed by the noise of the zippers when you walk?
Freaking awesome review! Love the passion, enthusiasm and humor. I bought the Synapse 19 and just ordered the Synapse 25. Hope I don't keep both but couldn't be happier and very enjoyed your review!
Another great review. It's clear that the aesthetics and the functionality are key components of this bag. I'd really enjoy maybe we can minutes of actual use video embedded in your review. how did you actually use the water bottle pocket while in flight or on the go in LA. That kind of thing
How hard is it to get the water bottle out without taking the backpack off. When you're on the go, you don't want to have to stop and take the pack off to get to the water.
Ahh, Tom Bihn bags. Really captures that Chrysler Town & Country minivan aesthetic. Which is fine! Sometimes you need a minivan! Since I am actually a dad, I overcompensate with an Ignoble Lenore for one bag carry.
Nice review! You pretty much covered all the good stuffs. I have the Synapse 25 in olive green. I love the color, and certainly love the bag. Hope to see more of your reviews.
Great review Chase and dia dhuit "hello' from Ireland. I am the person you describe in the last section of the review. Thanks for the review, I now think I will take my chances and purchase it from ireland. It could be an expensive mistake, and I am blaming you if it doesn't arrive, as your review has defo sold it to me.. 🤟👍🤟👍
This seems right! you can always just do laundry almost everywhere you are. I'm getting this what size is that packing cube? can I fit two of that same size??
Thanks for a fun and informative review! I actually own a TB bag and I love the way it looks! But then, I got it in orange ... :) However I would like more padding of the straps, they're a little too stiff for me.
Love your channel Chase. So.. ive seen a lot of reviews. Is the Tom Bihn the one? I am looking for a minimalist pack for travel. Trying to decide between the Minaal and Tom Bihn. I have the Goruck GR2 and love the clamshell and durability, but it is too heavy.
Kept wondering who you remind me of throughout. Finally figured out it was Jake Johnson's Nick Miller. I have committed to a Bellroy Transit 20L. It's taking forever to come back in stock in Midnight where I ordered it. Thought about getting a bigger bag to use until it comes and then I can interchange them for different uses.
Update - Ended up getting the S25 instead. Years later now and I kinda wish I had gotten the S19 sizewise. Now considering getting one so that I have two size options to work with. Went on a Tom Bihn spree and now own what feels like an obscene amount of the various pouches plus packing cubes of all types, a Side Effect, and two Side Hustles. We won't talk clips, the utility cloth, Freudian Slip, etc that I also bought.
First time watcher, and I have never obtained so much info on a subject and laughed my ass off at the same time. I subscribed and plan on watch more of your vids. Thanks so much for the info and the laughs. Keep up the excellent work.
I want information on the day bag that Sarah carries that works for Rick Steve. It's called the medium cafe bag in red.. It works as a crossbody bag instead of carrying a purse. Dana
Chase....stop making my husband want to purchase expensive...quality bags.... hahah. Fine so both of us really enjoy your reviews and find them really useful when deciding what to buy... I have to say we are loving this bag so far. Thanks :)
Great review. I’m between the Tom Bihn, Boundry Supply Errant, and Evergoods 24. Which would you recommend between the three. Looking for more organization. Thanks
I LOVE how you review bags. So informative but also entertaining. It would be awesome to see a review from you on Mission Workshop's "The Vandal" at some point! It's such a unique bag with its roll top features and expandability and it would be great to get your take on it.
Btw, when it comes to carry on trips there is a need to take a small messenger bag or a packable backpack since you want to leave your carry on backpack at the place you decided to stay in. In order to leave all the clothes in it and just grab documents, wallet, bottle of water what would you recommend to buy guys? i mean, there is a need for an extra empty space in it for e.g. souvenirs, meanwhile this convertible backpack/daily bp/messenger bag has to be a lightweight thing. Any ideas?
Hey. I was just wondering if you had any suggestions on a bag for me. I'm a teacher who commutes in London and I'm looking for a backpack. I feel in love with the Synapse and the Rickshaw Velo, but when I looked into them it was going to cost up to another $100 in shipping and customs charges to get them to the UK. The price of the bags themselves was fine just can't bring myself to pay another half of the bags value in fees. Any suggestions that I can purchase here in the UK?
*Smiles to camera*

I never thought a backpack review could be SO entertaining and wonderful. LOL I've been wanting a Synapse for a couple years now and this just convinced me to get one.
Haha hell yeah! I can't decide between this and the Brain
Probably gonna go with the Brain. Already have a bag this size. Not as neat but... Ya
Been waiting on this review for a while... did not disappoint. Really glad you liked it. I've had mine for about 2 years now and loving it. Looking forward to more Tom Bihn reviews. Cheers.
Legit, the best Tom Bihn backpack review I've ever seen! I can't believe you did this 6 years ago... I got my Synik 30L last year and I love it!
Yes, I am the ONLY one in my friend group who feels this way about bags. Lol!
OneHarp I think people in my circle are hesitant to tell me about their upcoming trips because the first thing I want to know is what bag are they taking and how they are packing. LOL
OneHarp So true 😂 I loled when he said that!
thesoulinspiration I do exactly the same thing! I also help my friends and family pack for trips. And the first thing I want to know when they get back is how their packing worked out.
Haha. I know that feeling 😂
Bo Ismono At least we have RUclips to feed our obsession! Love your channel and your bag reviews, btw!
Bought this based on your review and traveled 8 months around asia and europe in rain, snow and high temps, it worked wonderfully minimally as a day bag or carryon. No problems at all. I love the simplicity of it as it doesn't stand out in any country and the durability of it feels great so far.
Nice! Send me an email with your story and I’ll add it to my site. Chasereeves at gmail
This bag will change your life. Literally. You'll never know how easy carry on luggage or EDCing can be until you get this bag.
Best review ever. Nailed it completely. Ordered the S19 but sent it back for the S25. The Halcyon is a bit more dad baggy than the Ballistic 525.
You’re gonna be happy for a long time.
Love it Chase. This bag obsession is new to me. I can't believe how excited I get about this show about bags. I just bought the Patagonia Headway after your review. First road test will be a 5 day business trip to Botswana at the end of March. I'll let you know what I think.
I now own this bag and Chase is 100% correct about this. Holds way more than you might think and is a great one bag travel bag.
I wanted to add that you can purchase luggage handle cushioned wraps for the web handle. They work marvelous.
Still my favorite review you have done. Rewatching after 3 years.
Thanks Bo! Let me know anytime your in Portland OR :)
I will sure do! And let me know if you ever come to Hamburg ;-)
Bo Ismono?
Can't be uglier than a Goruck.
Personally I find it better looking than the Rambo bag.
I love this video, it is a gem in the entire realm of human creation
Ha! Agreed.
I have an original Synapse (19) and recently did the one bag travel thing - a two day, one night stint. It was perfect. Getting through the airports was a breeze. These backpacks are really amazing. And your review was awesome, too. I even (especially) enjoyed it even though I know the bag already!
Wow, I think this is the most thorough bag review I've ever seen. Which is great when I'm considering buying a $200 bag. Thanks!!
Would love to see an update on the Synapse 19 and 25
I bought the Minaal bag based mostly on your video. I love it. Been living out of it for 6 months. Now I am just addicted to your vids. I don't need another bag but I want this one now. LOL
This looks like my new one-bag-travel bag. I've been wanting to replace my old Jansport forever. What size packing cube did you put in there?
You are the BEST reviewer on youtube! Thanks for doing this.
Dude, I have not intention to buy a bagpack but I have been watching your video because its so entertaining and hilarious. Loving every video!
Oh man I wish you could be the one reviewing all the bags I am hesitating for my daily Carry, I can't make my choice.. Love your work
Big fan of your videos.
Thanks!
Thank you! That should have been part of my original statement. Not only did I discover this bag via you/your channel, it's actually been improved between then and now, possibly also as a direct result of your intervention. So, thanks! I really like this backpack!
I absolutely am the only person I know who cares about this stuff the way I do. I love your videos all the more for it!
I have this bag, it goes where I do when I travel. It is my everything EDC! It carry’s an amazing amount of stuff!!
How do we feel about the exposed zips? Makes me feel vulnerable
The transition is low key stellar
Pulled the trigger yesterday. Can't wait to nerdily pack it out. I think it's going to be EDC and short term travel. I've got the Wandrd Hexad Access for the big trips. I'm curious if I can squeeze the Synapse 25 flat INTO the Wandrd for daily carry. Hmm....
I bet you could if you put it in first.
@@chasereeves Right on, mah dude. :)
Yea, I know what you mean, Abby. I'll hope to do more of this in the future. Probably in separate videos.
Btw I love your videos! I've seen just about every single one. Still on the hunt for the perfect bag though.
I love your videos. Can't get enough of them. I have this thing about backpacks where I feel like I'm in this quest to find THE PERFECT BACKPACK--the one that's going to be your companion through all your adventures or whatever. But really, I'm mostly in the city/at home, watching backpack videos and the many tv shows I follow.
potatotomatoe same same.
i absolutly love this bag! i have to disagree about you guys not liking the look because i really want my bag to help me blend in and this "school bag" look does that in spades. yea, a goruck can do that too but this bag keeps everything you need on a plane one zipper away i never open the main compartment and i will never go back to carrying a laptop against my back again. soooo nice to carry.
Well said, James.
Do they have loads of them?
Saw this bag and a bunch of other ones. Ended up getting the GORUCK GR1. Best money spent for an EDC bag.
Does the open pocket in the main compartment keep the contents from bottoming out when the bag is on the floor? I want to put an iPad Pro in that pocket without having to buy a cache.
Great review. I have both the 19 and 25 versions. I would love it if Tom Bihn could do a 35l-40l version
Nice review! I'd love to see more bags designed with the laptop sleeve in the middle. But I wouldn't buy this one for the design. I have an Aeronaut 45 from Tom Bihn for several years, it's really durable. But aren't you annoyed by the noise of the zippers when you walk?
It's nice to know that I am not the only bag nut in the world. Thank you!
Great review! Have you looked at Black Ember or WANDRD?
Great videos Chase! Which other Tom Bihn reviews will you be doing? Would love to see reviews on the Aeronaut 30 or Tri-Star for a light travel bag.
How hard is it to get the water bottle out without taking the backpack off. When you're on the go, you don't want to have to stop and take the pack off to get to the water.
I am not even considering a bag like this, but I love your reviews so much that I am going to watch it anyways. Keep up the great work!
Ahh, Tom Bihn bags. Really captures that Chrysler Town & Country minivan aesthetic. Which is fine! Sometimes you need a minivan! Since I am actually a dad, I overcompensate with an Ignoble Lenore for one bag carry.
Perfectly put.
Great video I really like this bag but it's a little pricey can you suggest a cheaper bag but some what comparable?
Just picked this up and hope you got some of the kickback from the link.
This is one of the best reviews of any product 😂 super entertaining and also really useful.
HA! 12:04...should have been at 4:20...Chase you're the best.
Chase if you had to choose between the Synapse 25 vs Incase Icon Diamond Wire. Which one would you pick?
marc Buacharern this one hands down. The Incase Icon is a very rigid bag, and I enjoy using this Synapse 25 much more. Great question!
Thanks Chase! Love the videos!
Mats H I'd love to know this too 😊👍
nice review. thanks. have you tried their maker's bag?
I really need a Synapse 25 vs Aeronaut 30 video!! I cannot decide!!
Synapse if you need a daypack and organization, aeronaut 30 if you will never need that stuff and need more room for clothes.
I really love this review. I can't find that packing cube on the website though :( Which packing cube is that?
I want information on the day bag that Sarah carries that works for Rick Steve. It's called the medium cafe bag in red.. It works as a crossbody bag instead of carrying a purse. Dana
Chase....stop making my husband want to purchase expensive...quality bags.... hahah. Fine so both of us really enjoy your reviews and find them really useful when deciding what to buy... I have to say we are loving this bag so far. Thanks :)
What bag do you use today? Still the Synapse 25?
Great review. I’m between the Tom Bihn, Boundry Supply Errant, and Evergoods 24. Which would you recommend between the three. Looking for more organization. Thanks
If more org is the goal, the first two.
Chase Reeves Thanks!!!
I LOVE how you review bags. So informative but also entertaining. It would be awesome to see a review from you on Mission Workshop's "The Vandal" at some point! It's such a unique bag with its roll top features and expandability and it would be great to get your take on it.
I've reached out to Mission Workshop a few times, they haven't responded yet.
Hi chase! Which tom bihn packing cubes fit it better and take advantage better of the space inside? I mean which aether or halcyon size? Thanks
I think this is the one I’ve been looking for, thanks again for the informative and highly entertaining review as always! You’re the man 🙏
Do you remember what size packing cube you use for this bag? The yellow one? Thanks! Great video!!!
Any ideas?
Man, I laughed so much at the beginning of the video... I’m jumping at the Synik 30 next week...
This is a really great review! Thanks!! And congrats on the baby on the way!
I LOVE this bag!!! Definitely going to be living/traveling out of one soon!
Would like to know if the bag gets sweaty or sticks to your back in hot summery countires.
Thanks.
It will if it's hot, but even the best ventilation will still cause that. This has a mesh back and I find it to be satisfactory.
You should show the Cache when you show Tom Bihn backpacks
This bag is bigger than goruck gr1 26l but why you say gr1is not for everyday carry but this synapse is? Thank sir
