#2020 #Toyota #4Runner
I’ve owned many SUVs. The 4Runner by far is the highest quality. Toyota customer for life now. Smartest buy because of resale value as well.
To all the people saying it's the same - it's hard to change something that's perfect
Umbrace Titan I just want that new updated and bigger screen infotainment
Exactly. It still looks awesome and is rock solid
I have a 2019 off road premium, wouldn’t mind a 6th gear for highway but I love it still
tigerbiterhater it should be direct replacement for any other 5th gen
david hill I also have a 2019 ORP and I’m so disappointed to hear that they carried the 5 speed over. That being said, I’ll still probably get another one when my lease is up.
The fact that this vehicle still exist & sells, then it must be good
Omg!! The 2020 is just like the 2019 and the 2018!!! No changes at all!!
This is exactly why 4Runner and Wrangler have the best resale values, so it’s tough to complain about really.
@ironhockey Same here. I wonder if the 20 model has an upcharge over the 19's MSRP.
Yup. Same rig all around. These might be the last of the 4.0 V6. Have a feeling with more stricter emissions. Next gen 4runner might have to share same 3.5 engine like the current gen taco now. Wouldn’t mind the updated infotainment though.
all new infotainment system 8" screen with CarPlay and Android Auto
rjbtoo these car don’t need to change outlook. But they need change interior. Wrangler did it. But 4 runner did not.
"Hell's Revenge" - say Hi to my ex wife for me.
Why is there an embargo. It's the same vehicle it has been since Fred Flintstone bought one.
🤣 Seriously, it’s like, is it too much to ask to have a black leather seats option in Any Off Road trim at the price we’re paying for these 4Runners
Yabba Dabba Doo!
@@HalfCherokeeHalfLakota Toyota could care less AND they know this. If they keep selling like they have been such as the Tacomas, nothing will change. It's 2019 and the Tacomas still have drum brakes.
@@82Jaredr Toyota leans heavily on their reputation. Let's see with the 2020 Tacoma and next generation Tundra. So much truck competition now a days in the segment.
Exactly the same as the Landcruiser 200 series.. why do we pay almost $100g for a GXL 4.5 v8 twin turbo diesel in Australia and still don’t get leather at a minimum........ it’s because they know they can get away with it .. I bought 1 still 🤷🏼♂️
Drove the entire trail in my TRD off road. Stock everything including tires. It was a blast! My daughter's loved every minute. It was fun just walking down into the hot tub. Didn't dare to drive into it. Witnessed a jeep blow an axle. Watched an ATV get rescued from hells gate and admired the view of the Colorado River from the top. Awesome place Awesome vehicle. Love mine!
I’ll take a 2019 TRD off-road, don’t need push button start or a big screen dash tv. I also have something that is better than radar/ sonar and it’s called Vision!!!
Did Hells Reveng in a totally stock original tires 2018 TRD off road. Loaded with 400+ pounds of camping gear and my daughters. We had a great time. Scratched the front and rear bumpers a little, bent up the gas tank skid plate a little and had priceless fun a lot. Mud flaps screaming every drop and bumper protector scratching every hard angle. The truck amazed me. Glad I had the locker rear end. Didn't use any other off road options. Witnessed a jeep spit an axle like it was designed. The Toyota pulled up and over everything I attempted. I am not sold on the new technology and didn't buy the 4runner for it. I'll be keeping my 2018 dinosaur. Happy trails my fellow sand crawlers!!!!
Toyota likes to stick with tried and true methods. I agree with many commenters that the 4 runner could definitely use some more power. Great work TFL!
Sign me up. Toyota is going to sell a butt-load of these, simply because of the newer tech. I love this truck.
Agreed, we use our phones everyday so having Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a big plus.
They sell a butt load every year regardless.
I know you are right, And I just got owned but: you’re right
buy the older model with lower price and update center infotainment unit and backup camera , same money live better , walmart
Irfan haha
P-Sense tho.
Better yet, ditch the tech and enjoy the vehicle.
Less tech, less failures.
www.cartrimhome.com Look up the T9 Android Head unit for the 4runner. Super easy kit to install and looks OEM.
Gonna go out on a limb and say it drives similar to the 4Runner from xx years ago lol
Ryan Martinage that limb can probably support a tree house and a few swings! 👍👍
@@normt5463 I'd say it's well documented 👍
10 years ago lol. let's hope for a new one soon.
Hey nice work man!! Thanks for the kind words. I’m thoroughly impressed with your work ethic out there and how much content you’re able to capture. Cheers!
Finally the 4Runner is back in the Connectivity phase of the SUV game !!!!!!!
That green color looks great on the Taco. Also the 4Runner sounds great with the TRD exhaust.
2020 is my model year for my TRD Pro!!! I can’t wait! Thanks for the update!!!
The green looks amazing, and the new taco wheels are sharp too
Can’t wait to see the other 3 PRO’s in Army Green!
I just bought 2020 THD off road premium and I love it
Cool rigs, but I’ll keep my 2003 V8 w/ a CarPlay head unit replacement. Same stuff really.... 17 years later.
I wish they would bring back the Quicksand color. Quicksand color is best color.
If I ever have to replace my ‘07 FJ this will be the way to go.
I’ve run several trails in Moab including that one. Thanks for the memories.
I think Toyota forgot to invite Scotty to fly in
Michael shaw 😂
He opened the hood and stated, "Nothing too special under there". (-_-) There's always something special about a Toyota, good sir!
Best part of this video....ALL TOYOTA....That is good enough for me.
Tried & True ! Excellent vehicle
4 runner is great looking toyota that is for sure. Pity we do not have them in Europe.
Love it when you show the behind the scenes ribbings and trash talk between friends and colleagues.
Let's start a petition to bring back the 4.7 V8 in the 4Runner
Just get a GX.
Yea it was a good engine but you got that expensive Timing belt service ..not with v6
@@krassimirpetrov7131 that's called maintenance. Most vehicles have timing belts bud.
@ Real Motors have Timing Chains Not WEAK BELTS LIKE THE 4.7
The fox shocks don't do anything that the Bilstein shocks can't at those speeds. Where the fox shocks shine is in the faster desert terrain where you are moving at a faster pace through mild woops and rougher sections.
You get the KDSS on the off road; I got the off road premium but I’ve heard that those who’ve driven both get a lot better on road handling with KDSS than without, less roll and dipping
That rack looks like my 2010 fj rack. The engine looks very similar if not the same as my fj with the pre air cleaner cyclone air cleaner. The manual transfer case is the same. That’s what I love about Toyota. They don’t mess with tried and true and proven engine and drive train combinations. Slight improvement on horsepower and the 2014 fj had what I think is the first crawl control system which it’s controls were installed over head.
Please do an overview of the new infotainment system and dashboard information. Did they upgrade the backup camera to work better with the new screen?
The system isnt that much different. It still looks pretty crappy and dated. Would think that since 2013 (When I almost bough a Toyota) and now they would have done something about this. Lets get the Prius prime setup in some other vehicles. Its actually nice. I know if I skipped Toyota due to this and some friends went to kia to have a real infotainment system (I dont like kia personally as a whole). Im sure they might be loosing 10% of these sales because of this.
Many thanks for filming in 60fps. Great video quality.
Don’t forget new gauges and new hvac controls. Didn’t it also get keyless entry?
Could TFL do a review of new dashboard?
And can you compare the TRD Pro interior to the TRD Off Road?
This is the best 4Runner yet!! I’ve been waiting for this one. Just deciding between TRD Off Road with KDSS or TRD Pro.
Love the TFL reviews! Keep ‘em coming!!
Multifamily Real Estate Services if you’re planning on lifting and doing all that stuff you’re better off with an off-road premium trim. Save you some money. But if plan on just leaving how Toyota has it already. Then get a Pro. It’ll hold value better and resale. Plus it’s a Pro. Can’t go wrong with Pro.
Why dont people understand a refresh between a brand new car 😂😂😂, and they fixed all what people.complained about. AA and Apple Carplay, Push button starts, and all safety tech. And the green on that Tacoma is awesome. I also like how the TRD lights up in the headlights when the light is on.
Even if no problems existed, a person will make one up.
Because they are asses
I think most people are upset that this SUV is still pretty much based off of the 2010 model. It's time for a full redesign in my opinion at least.
@@AlaskanSnowLeopard maybe a redesign, but i feel this still looks good
I'm glad they didn't change anything, the 4Runner is perfect as is, and is one of the last "old school" SUV's
I just wish they still offered the 4.7-liter V8.
Glad to see they added safety sense. It was in the Lexus GX but I like the rear door on the 4runner better. That being said, I'm not in the market for one right now. I have an Outback and 97 Land Cruiser. I've thought about replacing both with a 4runner but I'm not rushing into things.
My 2000 4Runner with 300,000 miles and my 2017 4Runner with 100,000 miles drive exactly the same! 😃
And the 2017 has push button start and keyless entry, so I’m baffled as to why many reviewers say it still isn’t available or is ‘just now’ available.
Stick to to atrac crawl control and the locker are for serious stuck situations only if you only use the the locker you still have an open front diff if you select atrac you will almost never need the locker or crawl . Crawl is a neat selling point it works but atrac is what makes Toyota awesome
I have a 2015, and honestly the only thing I wish it had was blind spot indicators. It’s an amazing vehicle.
Sooooo, basically nothing has changed except push button start and a few infotainment upgrades. 😞😞
There's a lot of small changes. Safety sense = radar cruise control. There's now dual zone climate control that wasn't on the prior Pro. They've dropped the turn signal light and puddle lamps from the mirrors. And it looks like the rear suspension has gained an inch or so of down travel from prior models, but we'll have to see on that when more info is out. Overall it's basically the same though - 1000lb too heavy or 50hp short.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO why did they get push button, I hate that crap
Nicholas Sorrentino - the push to start are only on the higher spec’d models
And don’t forget how they’re better off road then the previous highlanders
And a big ugly black box placed into an otherwise attractive grille.
I'm so disappointed 😭. My Dad had a 3rd gen limited and loved it so much. He had it for so many years. Then in 2017 he upgraded to a 2018 Limited and he loves it.
Finally an updated entertainment system! It REALLY needed that
Awesome review, Tommy! You're a chip off the ol' block.
i bought the 2019 4runner trd premium 2 months ago and im happy with it. push start is not a big deal and i hate auto brake system it makes my stomach feels bad
What
I find this film funny. With my mildly modded '18 4Runner TRD Pro, I'd been driving over worse stuff depicted in this video without any hindrances.
This generation 4runner will probably go down as the best generation model.
I see Kurt. That dude gets around!
This was an event our other company (4x4LTR) planned and permitted for the client (Toyota) and their guests.
@@cruiseroutfitters1846 i didn't know about that other company. good deal, thanks.
And they weren't available of offering LED lighting for the 4Runner?
I love my 2015 4Runner TRD Pro.
Sure there's going to be a markup for the first 6 months of the 2020 model. I went ahead and snagged a 2019 off road premium at an excellent price. Glad to see that there arn't many changes worth waiting for. I'm not too big a fan of over the top safety features anyway. The only real advantage would be the info tech. Not woth the premium you'll pay over the 2019 though. I hear the major overhaul will be 2022. Hopefully they stick true to the 4runner dna
So basically they’re just running through every FJ cruiser color lol
Love you Tommy...but all I could hear was Toyota Foreigner...which is close enough to 4Runner, but once heard, I couldn't unhear! Look forward to hearing your driving impressions.
Cool truck Tommy...really like these off road videos..Nice job.
If they put in a 6 speed trans I would buy one right now. My 2009 Toyota Venza V6 AWD has 6 speeds, not for off road obviously but still good in snow and bad weather. I installed an Alpine head unit with Apple CarPlay so I’m good. Nice to see they’re catching up oh & my Venza also has push button start.
That army green Tacoma doe !!! 🔥🔥 def placing an order on a Tacoma Trd pro in army green ! Can’t wait 😊
I got a 2019 Camry SE because of the line of work I do. I put about 100 +, each day. Sometimes more on the wkends. But, if I'm ever in the position to keep my Camry and get another vehicle? You bet your sweet ass I'd cop this bad boy! The 4Runner was always in my, "reasonable dream car" to own. It's beefy, tough, looks great still ( and now with up to date features). My buddy has a 90's 4Runner (gold color) with over 300k lmao My brother drives my old 03' Lexus is300 that has over 240k and still runs like a champ! Man, these Toyota's in general are built to last.
Got a 4R Off Road in 2021. Was probably $13-15k less than I could have gotten an equivalent Pro model, if I could find one. First thing you gotta do is ditch the Toyota spaghetti noodle shocks and struts, even if you aren't driving off road. Put a simple set of Bilstein 5100s with the ~1" lift setting on the fronton and it and completely changed the handling and braking (for the better), as well as got rid of the stupid nose down attitude. Next was all terrain tires, which at this point are mostly for looks, but occasional off-road adventures. Once I get more miles/years on the truck I'll probably put a mild lift on it and get it ready for more adventurous off roading (like Moab). For me, taking a brand new $45k vehicle out where it can be destroyed isn't an option. Oh yeah, put a full RCI skid plate on it too, but mostly to dissuade catalytic converter thieves which are rampant around these parts. $1000 spent for the plates vs. spending $1000 on my insurance deductible. No brainer and will come in handy once I take to the off road for real.
i had a '17 Tacoma w/ push button start....the dumbest part is when you shut off the engine, it shuts everything off....my '13 4Runner Trail had a regular key, and you could simply turn it back one notch to shut off the engine, yet keep the info. system/electronics on. I'm sure the push button is now part of why it costs even more.
It would be nice to know why the 4runner don't have blind spot detection. Is a common safety feature on almost every vehicle now.
I would be really useful to have at least the option so I can buy one but not even the street oriented limited has it 😞. great videos though.
My 2010 tacoma offroad is still driving like new👊
@I know you are right, And I just got owned but: you're sorry about my frame? My frame gets treated by KROWN rustproofing company every fall, every year, and looks brand new. Even the factory stickers on my frame still look brand new. Try again.
Love how this things look but this needs more power and a better transmission
John Pearly Huffman used to write for Sport Compact Car magazine, same as Dave Coleman who now works for Mazda. I'm not sure if they were there at the same time though.
If only I could put this engine in a wrangler
Love having a trail guide help you over obstacles barely harder than the mall parking lot. That vehicle is capable of so much more than these bunny trails.
I wish Toyota had made these updates a lot sooner. I do wonder when a major update will come along, but I do think these changes will help keep the 4Runner a little more competitive until then.
Nicely done Tommy!
Well I just went to the Toyota dealership yesterday and seen a new trd pro voodoo blue tacoma. I like the blue better than the new green, so I might buy it. $47k
2020 is way better because of the internal upgrades push button start etc... invest in something good cheers mate.
The TRD Pro is great but I think the off road versions of the 4runner and Tacoma are a better value. They'll do serious off road stuff that would be enough for most people. Nice video.
americans never satisfy with offroad goodies meanwhile they use only at wallmart curb
I want the green, but I don't want to pay that premium.
100% agree. All it adds off road wise is A/T tires, which most people would want to choose their own and suspension. Not worth the extra money over a TRD Off Road in my opinion.
dcam456 Compass Off-Road Exploration here in Canada the TRD Pro option is 10.5k. The off road option is only 2.4k. There’s no way I’m paying 10k for shocks and different tires. The Pro upgrade should be half what Toyota charges for it.
Im planning an putting in back buten start and remote back in as they removed it before i baught it its awesome i love it
Hey Tommy, nice job! Even though the 4Runner has not exactly changed much, and you have done this several times before, you still keep your enthusiasm up and give a review worth watching. Rock rails! Yes!
Rubbing shoulders with Mr Huffman, he has been in the game a longggg time, he will be able to offer you so much info, nice. Cool part is, you have tackled this career with enthusiasm and as such can start offering the old guard some new tricks as well. Pretty awesome there young one. ( You might have surpassed your father!?!?) hahaha. Definitely a different style suited for the millennials, but you are not stuck in the millennial stereotype and are definitely interesting for this old fart (55) as well! Keep it up, you could do well.
Thanks again for an old rehash, er uhhhhh, a new review of the 2020 4Runner TRD Pro! Please stay safe out there, Eh.
C’mon, that is sooo old. Kinda like ME! Haha
Could a forester wilderness do this trail?
Same gas guzzling 4.0 L engine. Same old, antiquated 5 speed transmission. Again NO Turbo. Blah. I love the 4Runners had a 2015 TRDPRO but its just a tease. Toyota really does need to step up with the times. I won't be getting one of these anytime soon especially at the price they want, but I know that many others will. Great job on the video Tommy.
My next car💪🤙
Always love the 4Runner. I’m waiting for the next gen... all it needs is a little better mpg. It needs just s little more daily driver. Not much. 3.5 and 8spd?
The Highlander is right there waiting for you
@@Anomize23 🤣🤣🤣🤣 yep that’s what I’m going to start telling all of the people writing bad reviews on 4 Runners!
I like the red and army green colors. The forerunner is a great vehicle. It could use a little more power though.....
My brother affectionately calls his ‘18 his Turd Pro. I like it but handling around curves reminds me of my lifted Silverado. Think I will stay with a pick-up for towing and cargo capacity.
Push button start is a mall crawler option
choosing this over a Jeep. Going to factory order soon. :)
4Runner looks good with the front windshield tinted
Wow... Great looking Trucks!
I’m waiting for September to get a 19 Taco TRD Off Road and hopefully get a good deal.
Jonah Babnick Those deals and special interest rates are happening now by waiting later you are losing selection. No. I don’t work for a dealership or Toyota
Is the 4 runner being redisign for 2021?
Love the 4runner
That's Kurt from Expedition Overland!
Yup :D
Thanks for the reply! I just bought a 2017 Tacoma a few months ago and have been exploring my local forests. Mark Twain and the Ozarks. I'm having a ton of fun. I've learned a lot from you guys. Keep up the great work!
Thanks!
Didn't you guys at least try the Hell's Gate obstacle? I would *really* like to see that in the stock 2020 4Runner.
That’s a lot of information but there is one huge safety question I have. Do the headlights turn on when the wipers are activated? I see a lot of Toyota vehicles driving in the rain in stealth mode, no lights or just DRL with no lights out the back end. If the wipers are on, in general, visibility is below average. With all the safety gizmos equipped on these vehicles headlights on with the wipers seems like an overlooked inexpensive enhancement. Maybe Toyota’s just never die and all the cars I see are older than many state laws requiring headlights on when wipers are on, or there’s room for improvement?
You should do a video with the rav4 adventure with the 4Runner trd pro, the rav4 adventure is the baby of the group and I’ll take it because has the best technology and fuel economy than the 4Runner, Tacoma, or tundra
I’m a huge Toyota guy. Always have been always will be. As an avid off roader I would love to see some more improvement to the TRD Pro models. The Jeep rubicon has solid axle, two lockers, sliders, sway bar disconnects, a 4.0:1 transfer case, and 4.10:1 gears. Seems much better by the numbers than the TRD pro. How about long travel or a solid axle, Two lockers, lower gears? Seems to be remaining the same and not keeping up with rivals. It’s basically still a third gen 4runner.
So they FINALLY put adaptive cruise on it haha, if I'd known I might have held off and not bought a Tacoma back in March, but in any case I love my Tacoma.
What happened to the other guy from TFL can't remember his name
Think he was Nathan's son
"Tommy, what did the "new TRD exhaust system" consist of? It looks like there is still only a single tailpipe, whereas other TRD exhaust systems have been a cat back dual exhaust. It's not just a TRD stamped exhaust tip, is it?
Ok, the 4runner is nice, but GREEN TACO. GIMME!
Gm from Lloydminster, Sk!!! Keep serving us cool content!
Whats the deal on this TRD exhaust? Is it a stealership add on, or can it come equipped from the factory? Will there be a bump in hrsprs or torque? Either way, they were smart by putting it out to the side.
THIS is the 4runner I've always dreamed of. I don't care there's no new redesign or drive train upgrades. The only thing it was severely lacking in was the amount of tech in the vehicle and now it has everything it should have had at least 4 years ago.
That new trd pro rims on the tacoma are👌. I would love them on the 4runner.
Compare with your tough T? Which one you prefer to off road
I thought they were doing a all new design for 2020? 🤔 so the biggest change is a 8 inch screen and apple car play. I’ll save money and get the 2019.
