I've played the first game, which I enjoyed. Once I get an HDMI converter (or adapter, I'm unsure of the correct name) I'm going to try the rest, or at least the second one as I like the fix camera a lot.
I pretty much jump into the anime not expecting them to bring over much elements from the games because I think the trailer conveyed that well enough, yet I'm decently surprised by the show and found it charming. Admittedly, it's not a big banger, but still. Correct me if I'm wrong because I've forgotten a lot of details in the trilogy games (nobody play Capcom games for the stories in the past, right..?), but the general theme was about big powerful figure betraying their humanity for more power (provided by 'outer' forces). Then justice, borrowing power of the Oni, have to put them down. The historical context of the setting/Period seems to be harkening back to the game's as well. So all that power cravings of the big bad and Musashi's rivals are at least matching with the core theme. I think it's a warranted spin of the story, not entirely thoughtless. Agree there's not enough episodes to properly build characters given they were my highlights. When their moments come, they are either too sudden or leave no time to ruminate. Together with the history stuffs that couldn't went further, it seems like the show tanks on what they could've done well on. I was not aware though, about Musashi's likeness being the late actor Mifune Toshiro. That explains why he looked 'odd' when compared with the other casts, designed by the late artist Kim Jung Gi which caught my attention with the announcement. The Onimusha series had always used likeness of real actors. John Reno , Kaneshiro Takeshi as Samanosuke in 1 and 3 and Jubei in 2 was the late Matsuda Yusaku. I'm not sure about the side characters, but a lot of them have likeness of real people so I would not be surprised if they are who their voices are. To continue the tradition, we can see the reasonings of using real actor's face. But why Mifune's Musashi left me questioning. On the ethics side however, I don't think I can settle on what's right or wrong. Yagyu Jubei in the second game was also using Matsuda's face long after he passed, though I know nothing about that decision. Furthermore I don't think the quality of the final product should be a factor whether an homage has been delivered in earnest, or not. Call that sympathy for the people behind the scenes cuz I don't think anyone wants to deliver something bad from their hands, when they already carry so many big names on the project. It's quite complicated indeed. Now Imma go revisit all the cutscenes of the games. I'm not sure what you think about the 3rd game other than John, but I remember playing through all 3 of them back-to-back for the sake of nostalgia while having the fondness for the 3rd game in mind, yet came out realizing the 3rd one is actually the worse one LOL
I'm not familiar with this at all, might check it out. Currently watching Pluto thanks to the recent vid you made on it. Really enjoying it, much darker than I was anticipating. But it has a lot of good heart too, so it's not too depressing.
I loved the games used to play them in highschool. I didn't care for the Netflix anime much. I preferred the Blue eyed samurai instead. You are by far my favourite anime channel I love how you cover a variety of anime genres. It's so refreshing
I played the original Onimusha not the HD version and it was very fun dashing through everything and getting critical issen attacks. Nobunaga was not involved in the first game as Samanosuke Akechi (the MC) was trying to save this princess from the Genma in general. Kaede was pretty fun too when you dash and do a one hit kill move by going behind the enemy. Yeah I think I'll pass on this anime adaptation or whatever Netflix wants to label it as.
Do you think it might have looked better if they had gone for the same visual look as the cutscenes from the game, instead of trying to look like a 2D Anime?
11:21 Hats off (tall top hats off) for going the deep cut instead of Daniel Day Lewis. And yeah, I could do without an ACTUAL appearance of a dead actor. An homage, sure, but to say it's him? Didn't Capcom learn ANYTHING from using people's likenesses in Onimusha games?! It's why it took so long to get a remaster! Then again, it's the same company that allowed a dimension to modern times in their Monster Hunter movie. 🤦(Still like Milla and the flick to be honest.)
Just finished it the other day. CG was okay, action scenes were good. But quickly turned into a fight to fight show, not much story or world building. An easy watch but nothing amazing. Thanks for the video! On to Pluto next!
Yojiro was a lot easier to write, the getting old and weak story is relatable like a lot of John Wayne movies. The anime didn’t have characters nowhere near as cool as the game, and the cutscenes from 1-dawn were much more exciting. They would’ve done a poor job introducing new enemies though
The single most badass samurai in history, Miyamoto Musashi. Thank god I finished the manga. The anime was ok, not enough world building and character development.
really feels like they didnt even play the games before making it. If they really cared they would've at least tried to make it castlevania style with the many characters from the games but its clearly just something they pooped out just to get a check not really for anyone
I have been interested in the original Onimusha games for couple of years. Sad they gave up on making PC ports. It is also kinda strange how Netflix digs up IPs like Onimusha or Shenmue nowadays.
Honestly, I agree with you on the Onimusha adaptation part, it was mostly just Onimusha in name only. It didn't feature any of the characters from the games and it was weird not even at the very least having villains like Ranmaru, Guildenstern and Nobunaga Oda, at first this annoyed me a lot, having no Nobunaga as the villain felt like Castlevania without Dracula. I was also annoyed by other things like the lack of crazy weapons, the lack of Oni form, or the lack of over the top enemy designs but I slowly got over it and found the show to be okay enough on it's own. It's no different than something like the Dragon's Dogma anime which I found to be decent enough and Onimusha did feel more competent than say Madhouse's adaptation of Devil May Cry in the 00s. It certainly isn't on the level of the Gungrave anime but at the same time, 95% of all game adaptations pale in comparison to that show. I don't know much about Musashi and the actor who played him in this anime so I can't comment and that is probably why I wasn't bothered. With how many video game adaptations are coming out as of late and how so many of them annoy me more than entertain, I am surprised I got some enjoyment out of Onimusha. Arkane and Last of Us are super overrated, Captain Laserhawk is a mess that fails at being subversive and it sets up for a cliffhanger, Twisted Metal seems like it could deliver in season 2 with season 1 just being on the realm of average and the Paramount Halo show is a poorly written pile of trash, it takes a lot for me to call something that but the Halo show succeeded with flying colors. So my expectations for Onimusha were already super low and the show surpassed it, the series is far from great but I am glad I even liked somewhat. Also, I liked how reasonable you were when explaining your opinions on the show, I didn't entirely agree but at the very least you were pleasant to listen to when explaining all the stuff you disliked.
Well they had an Oni form, they even show it on the cover of the anime. I don’t mind about no Nobunaga but they could have had a similar type of villain, similar level of threat.
@@bobsamurai It's at the end but I wanted it during the Yoshioka Brothers fight, it felt like they were building up towards it and it didn't happen. It was epic when it did happen at the final fight, just wish it appeared more. I do agree with the latter part. Iemon's death comes out of nowhere and he's supposed to be a fighter yet he gets a cowardly villain death, Kojiro should've had a lot more build up than what he ultimately got.
Dont stop making videos Bob, these are pure gems
Good to see your still making videos. Salute Bob

Bob please make a video about onimusha 4.it was my favourite!

thanks! glad to hear
Yh blue eyed is good. But I still loved this anime. I don’t care about the games so it won’t sour my anime experience.
Musashi was a character in onimusha blade warriors
technically true, but so was Megaman. They added a couple random characters who didn't have any connection to the Onimusha story
I played the original Onimusha not the HD version and it was very fun dashing through everything and getting critical issen attacks. The Capcom Test needs to be put in the grave.

What gets me is that Samanosuke Akechi’s face model Is still alive
Do I have to play the games to watch the anime?
Thanks for watching!
I really wish Capcom would do a PS5 remaster series of the games. I never liked how only the first game got a PS4 release.

exactly. like it was a cheap license or something
I have been interested in the original Onimusha games for couple of years. Sad they gave up on making PC ports.

Shenmue was Crunchyroll, but your point still stands.
Honestly, I agree with you on the Onimusha adaptation part, it was mostly just Onimusha in name only.
