Lavender Town's theme and overall vibe were creepy enough on their own. Not to mention the revelation. I remember how I felt discovering and exploring the first time. The realization that pokemon died and the sorrow their trainers felt was gutting to a ten-year-old.
Some music theory info from a musician: The Lavender town theme is definitely not atonal, it has a tonal center of E minor which becomes quite clear when the bassline enters. But it has some interesting unresolved dissonances, and plays a bit with different minor modalities, creating some tonal ambiguity. One has to keep in mind that while atonality and unresolved dissonances often coexist, they are two different things and should not be confused for one another. Here are the chords that are kinda being implied: Em(b6) Em7/D Cmaj7(#11) C#dim Em Bm(b6)/D Cmaj7(#11) C The tones of the soundchip synthesizers are quite eerie and contribute to the spook. But the harmony is also quite spooky. The melody and high ostinato motif "C, G, B, F#" constantly emphasize some spicy scale degrees that help create the spooky vibe. Both the b6 (natural minor) and #6 (dorian) occur very frequently and even simultaneously (a creepy sound), so it kinda sounds like it's in dorian and natural minor at the same time with the melody and the ostinato figure clashing with one another. Another important thing is that throughout the theme, the 4th degree, namely the note A, is avoided. But the thing that sounds really unusual and kinda creepy and "Stravinsky-esque" is the ostinato motif "C, G, B, F#" consisting of scale degrees b6, b3, 5, 9 (kinda spells out a Cmaj7#11) that clashes quite dissonantly with the bassline and melody. When this motif is played on its own at the start of the tune, we don't really know the harmonic context of the notes of the motif yet, and so they sound strange and surprising until the bassline enters. But it does not lack a tonal center and is therefore not atonal!
@@Lilydarvishvand Probably not! But it's a good story if taken with a grain of salt of course! If it was true then there would have been have been news coverage of course. But one should never underestimate the power of art! Of course there has been things like "The Sorrows of Young Werther" and "The Rite of Spring" so who knows?...

Me and my friend to this day don’t believe that Lavender Town Theme caused deaths but I believe that multiple were sick and I also think had immense mental trauma as it happened to me before. I could not get the theme out of my head… my ears rang the theme for about 6 to 7 months in a row and suddenly stopped. I do not suggest any kids under the age of 10 to listen to the theme.. I listened to it nonstop repeatedly, and when I went to sleep, I was able to hear a different version of that song.
