Fun Fact: After releasing Kairi, Sora becomes a heartless. When Kairi saves Sora, he didn't magically become whole again. Sora's heart was just reminded of what he was supposed to look like. Sora doesn't become whole again until nearly the end of KH2, when he merges with Roxas. So for the remainder of KH1, all of Com, and most of KH2, Sora is still a heartless.

What really gets me about Sora’s sacrifice in KH1 is that he does a similar cheesy smile to the one he does in the beginning of the game, right after Donald tells him “No frowning. No sad face. Okay? This boat runs on happy faces.” So when he does it again before his sacrifice, that’s him masking his sadness. It’s like he’s telling Donald and Goofy, “everything’s gonna be okay.”

Kind of but I think where a lot of people get things wrong is that the reaper isn't literally Strelitzia; all of the Nobodies in Organisation XIII get their weapons and powers from their previous lives (even if they don't remember it) that's why Axel has chakrams, why Larxene has lightning (she was presumably struck by lightning at the end of Union X) etc. Marluxia's power is death and he has a scythe to reflect that, his powers come from his lost memories of his dead sister, the reaper during that fight is almost definitely just a physical manifestation of his grief even if he doesn't realise it.

On this topic, the Mobile games deserve a whole separate video each. KHUX gets especially dark if you actually played the game yourself, because the protagonist is created by and personified by you, the player. All the messed up stuff that happens to the Protagonist feels a lot more personal at that point (though Damo279, Everglow, and a few others have the special case of having their journeys be in the spotlight for many people's first reactions).

    Skyward: what did i miss
Me: almost the entirety of the ending of 358/2 days and prologue to kh2. Axel at one points literally hunts down Xion and they attack each other nearly to death only for Xion to escape yet again and attempt to murder Roxas or be murdered in the process ending with Xion being murdered. While her murderer begs for her not to die while she deteriorated into his arms. Then riku forces Roxas into a fight only to end up brainwashing him and keeping him prisoner while his old best friend tries to hunt him down with orders to also murder him, then he is forced to over exhaust himself until he literally ceases to exist and have to reform with Sora.

He's learned a lot throughout his adventures and has pieced together everything about himself. This was a fun video! I really enjoyed it. :) For me personally, one of the darkest moments is the moment Xion confronts Roxas to fight him, basically forcing him into a situation where he has to either survive or kill his best friend. The build-up to that moment is already dark because Axel, Xion, and Roxas have started drifting apart as friends, and then the aftermath where Roxas realizes he's going to forget Xion and he goes charging toward the Organization headquarters in what would have basically been a suicide run if Riku didn't intervene is just that extra layer of darkness. As powerful as Roxas became by the end of 358...he wasn't about to face everyone left in the Organization alone and get out in tact. I say that mainly because I think the remaining members would have all just jumped him at once before Roxas could even get to Xemnas rather than fighting him one at a time like they did for Sora later. That and he was charging in blindly to do the last thing Xion asked of him before he forgot her for good, so the boy had zero time to prepare a plan and was probably too grief stricken and angry to care about his own well-being. He was going in keyblades blazin' with nothing to lose. Definitely one of the darker sequences in the series for me, especially because of what happened to Roxas after all that. My goodness. What a roller coaster of devestation.

To me one of the brutal scene is at the end of KH:358/2 days [Spoilers Ahead]. At the end of the game, Roxas' friend Xion learns that she's in fact made out of Sora's memories. She then faces her best friend Roxas, explaining that in order to survive she have no choice but to kill since one of them must die for the other to remain. However when Xion eventually loses and starts dying, she explains that since she's only made out of memories when she will die, everyone will forget that she even existed and dies in the arms of Roxas. Roxas then turn his back to the organisation XIII to keep a promise to someone he don't even remember. To face them he then carries two keyblades as his own and Xion's keyblade became Oathkeeper (Roxas' promise) and Oblivion (Xion that got forgotten).

KH2's secret ending is a lot more brutal than what we got in Birth By Sleep. Anyways, Vexen's death in CoM will be included in Top 25 Most Disturbing Moments in Non-Horror Games at the lowest part of the list(the GBA version is a lot more brutal), and Vanitas as number 6 or 7 in Top Ten Scariest Villains in Non-Horror Games. On the other hand, the manga had deaths to be absolutely horrific. Like that woman in the Traverse Town first visit in the KH1 Manga. She got lynched by a Soldier Heartless compared to a man while scared fading away in the game. Then there's the KH2 manga during the Land of Dragons chapter towards the end, where Shan Yu got shot in the head by Xigbar.

I think is worth mentioning how they emotionally tortured Roxas through literally his whole existence. Not knowing who he was, how to feel, meaning of what is to feel, having both of his best and only friends betray him, having to fight both of them, forget everything including the memories of his beloved friend who was force to kill, have been used as a tool even by the good guys, forced to live a lie in the virtual twilight town, and the icing in the cake, having to renounce to himself, his life, his whole existence to that guy everyone seems to be so obsessed with, even Xion at some point. If we think about it, Roxas was always the forgotten one, the mistreated, underestimated, wildly used and manipulated, always on the shadow of another guy he doesn't even know (Sora) and even a reflection of another (Ventus).
Also let's not forget about Xion. She knew that she had to fight Roxas to the Death. She knew that her life was over one way or another. She knew that even doing the right thing, she will be forgotten by everyone. (We know that KH3 gave us the happy ending we wanted, but still before that, it was PURE DARKNESS and really messed up.

In Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, after Xion learned the truth that she’s just a puppet, and knew she can’t exist knowing it’ll just most likely end Sora. She pleaded to her two friends to kill her so Sora’s memories would return. Roxas ended up killing her, ends up forgetting her because killing her erased the memories of her friends, and returns in KH3. Axel can’t remember who she is, leading to her trying to kill her former friend, only for Sora to tell her it’s all right. Once she hears her name, she falls into a mental breakdown, only for Xemnas to hit her.
That was one dark moment I know.

So far, I have only gotten through the 3 main games and 364/2 and I wanted to play the others to see how they tie in (cause the story is awesome and well told to prevent spoils) there were, and how each character is connected or needed. Maybe someday I will finally get through them, cause the info I got today was eye opening and I am thankful for that. Well done!

I feel like a certain moment is missing from this "list". And the end of Birth by Sleep Ventus realizes he is an integral part of Xehanort's plan. The center piece of said plan if you will. So he goes to meet up with his two best friends, shortly before they are all about to be absolutely folded by Xehanort and Vanitas as seen in the video. So he steps up to the only two people he has left in this world and just straight up asks them to "put an end" to him.
    That's messed up!
I suppose it is somewhat of a parallel to Sora's sacrifice at the end of KH1, but still...
    That's just dark!

    • @rickydiscord7671

the characters overreacted when goofy got hit by a rock. I wasn't even upset on the fact even goofy says it himself. he gets hit on the head all the time. I mean in the cartoon shorts he got hit by even worse thing than a rock. my reaction from him getting hit by the rock even my mom "oooo that's got to hurt.." rather what some people were reacting from that scene. some people like myself knew better and know full well he's just fine. but yeah I don't blames that haven't got a chance to see any cartoon shorts. thought he was actually "dead". I just guessing why the characters like donald and mickey. is because they were still in the moment of battle because they were in the middle of a "war" and end up forgetting that goofy can handle a rock that size.

The one that really gets me to my core is when Roxas is told that ' You weren't meant to exist', which basically just said
everything that you go through, all your experiences that you face and that you value, all of the people you met, don't matter and completely irrelevant to everything else in this world. Which doesn't help at all since he wanted be his own person, and all of his negative emotions and experiences are poured right back into Sora, so it's no wonder Sora felt those things during his journey after CoM. Yikes.

I have seen other movies with some pretty crazy deaths in them since, regarding Disney. But it definitely shows that even though Disney works alongside Square Enix to make the Kingdom Hearts series, how there's no shortage of human based deaths of some kind.

There was also the experiments that happened in Radiant Garden and the countless lives ruined by the ruler, and later a supposedly amnesiac Xehanort, who I suspected played everyone for fools. As for the last horrifying moment, I feel the deaths of Lady Tremaine and her daughters were actually orders that Vanitas carried out, no loose ends, but do it in a way that throws off suspicion.
