I've fished for over 50 years now I can tell you there's good and bad in both "camps ". I fished tournaments for 2 years. Never had any problems with " locals" .Fished recreationally and to get fish to eat , and have had no problems with " professionals ". I have had more problems with homeowners along waterways than anyone else. Telling you not to fish there like they own the water or something. So, moral of the story : Bad and good in every group. Just treat others like you would want them to treat you. This works MOST of the time.
Well said you cant control what people say or do (without going to jail). What you can control is how you react. Taking the high road is the best way most times ( I will fish a dock but I dont fish boats) because I think good things happen to good people. Also if you get snagged on a dock go the extra mile to get the line and hook so swimming kids dont get hurt).
Unwritten rule of prefishing is stupid. Oh I've casted here before its off limits to you. In fact I've casted almost everywhere in this lake so you might as well go home and not fish the tourney because I've already claimed the good spots and ill cry about it if you fish a few feet away.
They both relied upon those unwritten rules while they were in the lead to win and get where they are. To shit on the rules because you're just shy of a check in one event is low-rent. There's no reason to discount it after the fact.

As a very successful angler I have been hounded for years to tournament fish. I have fished 4 tournaments in my life and found all four to be a miserable experience even though placing 2nd in all 4. I go fishing to relax, take in the beauty, the wildlife and enjoy the friendship of those I take with me. The competitiveness came first.....then the tournaments. The competitive fisherman is a tool of the industry.....but I digress, If they are willing to trade it all for dollars that is their prerogative and I assume they enjoy it.

This whole idea of calling a spot for an indefinite amount of time simply because that's where you want to fish, and everyone else is supposed to leave and let you have your way, that seems to be the standard. I always thought it was first come, first serve, and if you wanted to fish near someone you should ask permission first. But I guess the sport has changed.
Two supposed adults run 43 miles one way, bypassing untold number of fish, to fish the same little spot and then argue over who was there first the PREVIOUS day.
I like watching tournaments for these reason...the meltdowns. These are salesmen who compete to win the next trophy they can put on their shelf and acquire more sponsors...Have you heard them pitch a sale? "these lures are the best" and fish holds on to them longer"...
If I'm fishing on a lake, and there is a tourney going on, whether is just a local tourney or a league tourney, and some dude tells me he pre-fished that area, I'll move for him. It's not a big deal. Now, if this same dude starts telling me I NEED to move, or become rude, I'll keep my ass right where I am, or I'll drag motor all over that area...
I don't get why people get so protective over where you started the tournament. Great anglers make adjustments and change their gameplan throughout the tournament.
You absolutely have to do a bass fishing video where you go to private ponds and wear a shirt saying "I am deaf so please use sign language" and watch them go nuts trying to kick you out while you keep pointing to the shirt. Some will finally get pissed and write down on paper telling you to leave. That's when you pull up the top shirt and show the second shirt saying "Sorry, I cant read either!" I promise it will go viral if you do this prank.

Hey there my fishing friend, I do understand the basics of tournament fishing,,,,,,BUT on another big tournament at Douglas, weigh in was at the point,,,,dandrige,,,,, it was very hot the fish were deep ,,,after they were weighed and shown off they went out in the lake about 300 feet and put them back in all evening ,the buzzards were having a time on the near by bank,when it was over and most have left,I picked out of the bay all I could clean I got 20,I counted 57 floating and don't know how many were on the bank. So if seen this before and I simply don't like it, I'm not a tree hugger or any kind of protester , iv caught many fair size bass in my life of fishing and I simply unhook it and turn it back no pics,no phone calls,no drama.just me and a bass😁
Professional bass fishing is the worst thing next to jet skis to ever happen to our lakes and rivers. I've been fishing on the shoreline and these professional bass fisherman fishing tournaments will literally throw right over you . It's like during tournament time they think they own the damn lake.

It's a tourney. Last time I checked you can anchor right next to someone and cast same spot. Waterways are open source and it's just a bunch of crybabies. Every fish is up for grabs. This happened to me once in a two day event….I just put blinders on a commenced to catch 20lbs in front of them. Took my trophy and went to the house, never said a word 🏆😎

The funny thing is that bayou is one of the most contaminated waterways in Calcasieu Parish. And is nowhere near Sabine River.

The behavior gets its legs at the local tournament club levels and grows as the competition and pressure does. Most of these dudes are Egomaniac douchebags.
They all need to grow up! I’ve had people fish right up where I was and didn’t care. Tournaments is nothing but on water casino. No matter where you fish you are not going to know how big a fish is.
Getting mad at someone for fishing a new place in tournament , is like telling a baseball player to only swing at sliders, when he can't hit a slider... You have to adjust to win, when it's competition idgaf, I'm playing to win, if I'm out fishing casually I'll give you yourspace
Rule #0001: If you think your spot is being encroached within a hundred feet you have the option to move or put on a blind eye and immediately start casting your line to would be intruder(s)/encroacher(s) in an attempt to disboat the vagrant . No crying like little girlies.

It's a tourney. Last time I checked you can anchor right next to someone and cast same spot. Waterways are open source and it's just a bunch of crybabies. Every fish is up for grabs. I got yelled at one time for watching some really large bucks in a soybean field by someone that called them his deer and the dude didn't even own the property haha!!

This happened to me once in a two day event….I just put blinders on a commenced to catch 20lbs in front of them. Took my trophy and went to the house, never said a word 🏆😎
