As mentioned in the video, the "Laelia hibrida" is supposed to be in fact the plant I wanted: Laelia superbiens. Allegedly, it was just mislabelled. Kinda weird, huh?
4 out of 7 is really a disappointment. The price would not be so bad if they were all healthy enough to adapt in their new environment. Which reminds me, there is a nursery south of Lisboa, Tropical Orchids Portugal whose owners are from Brazil. They started importing from Brazil and last time I looked, they were selling cuttings from adult Cattleyas at 60 euros a piece and above. Maybe other people had good chance with them but not me. I ordered from them a Cattleya cutting African Beauty. They sent me a photo before I ordered it and it seemed ok. However when I received it, it was smaller than it looked on the photo, the pseudobulbs were thinner too. It had a new growth that never developped and I had to toss it. I hope your new orchids will recover once they have been repotted, maybe what they need is more humidity to índuce new roots. Fingers crossed ❤❤❤❤
Oh, no! 60€ or more for a single piece is outrageous if the plants are not even healthy - let alone what they were supposed to be. So shady. I'm probably going to make an update on these but I'm waiting for some of them to finally die off haha
Hi Matt! I feel for you. We work hard for our money! Hopefully they will do well under your care. Because of your last video I bought a dowiana and I hope I don't kill it. It wasn't cheap! Good luck with your new orchids! Thanks for sharing and you have every right to be disappointed.

imports are always a gamble. If I import from South America, which isn't that far away, they are rarely in good condition. I hope the mooreana makes it. Even here it is very rarely seen for sale. I tried to get it from Ecuagenera and they told me before my order shipped that they didn't have it so I cancelled the entire order, since that was the only plant I desperately wanted.
It's so sad that people just kinda have to accept low quality plants - especially in your case where South America is just across the Gulf. Both of the mooreanas are turning rather crispy right now,. No signs of new roots or growths or anything just desiccation. I've had tiny seedlings of mooreana before that didn't make it through last summer. Fingers crossed and hope you'll get your chance soon as well!
Lovely video Matt, just a question. I am interested in importing from Bela Vista next year and I was wondering how I could do that or where I would have to go to organize it. Thanks a lot!

@@Alvaru78 I‘ve seen Cattleya rex at AfriOrchids - Regina Elsner organizes that import as well. I have ordered from them before and I really liked the plants.

@@MattbyNature They send out PDF Lists 1-2 times a year. For example, they always come to the Dresden show and you could pick up your order from there or they ship it. I also saw them at the Vienna show this year. They have a lot more cattleyas on the list than bela vista! I could send you the current list if youd like.

Shippers sometimes label plants as "hybrids" to get around CITES requirements.

You could maybe get the walkeriana vinicolor from floralia, i got it from there this spring.. its a good size seedling, wasnt expensive at all 🙂

Yes. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. Some of them are doing ok but the others... I am thinking of making an update on these at some point.
