Leopold this video goes from describing the water's turbidity to temperature to weather to trying things with no result to finding a reaction and zeroing in on a pattern. "Keitech," is mentioned in passing, while terms like, "spinner bait," "jig," and, "underspin," are emphasized. Matt focuses his emphasis on the technique and progression through different presentations. Other channels spend 80% of their dialogue explaining why brand X is the magic and why I must buy it in watermelon-chartreuse, even though they've never been to my local lake or even region. Matt's method here of establishing patterns will apply on any lake, regardless of what brand lure you use.
This is honestly one of the first instructional videos I would tell somebody to watch. Your emphasis on locating fish and determining their mood is so much more helpful than common tips to "downsize your presentation" or "try a different color". Downsizing won't help you if you're dangling your bait in an area where the fish aren't!
this is the best breakdown on how to dial in fish I've ever seen. It's been said before in other videos but this video took the time to really go in depth... 20ft in depth ;) Thanks Matt!
I have been watching this channel non stop for months. After years of being an average fisherman I am trying to step up my game. Me and my son watch videos at home, on the way to the lake and often times while we’re fishing. We learn and apply the knowledge we have gained. We’re doing our homework and it’s paying off very well. Thanks for the educational videos and for helping us improve. It’s making our time together at the lake a total blast!
Watching your retrieve technique when you are fishing and not talking to the camera is priceless. I love the way you tell us what you are doing, but seeing you do it along with hearing you talk about it seals the deal! This is without a doubt the BEST video I’ve ever seen on patterning fish.
With brilliant content like this it baffles met that you guys are not over 1M subscribers already. Thanks for another great post. Greetings from South Africa.
With the incredible content video after video, it is absurd and puzzling that TB doesn’t have triple the subscribers. This is literally the best breakdown of a fishing topic and quite possibly the most informative fishing video I’ve seen.
I really appreciate the links directly to the baits, lures, jigs etc that your demonstrating here in your videos.....So Cool Matt! I’m just discovering your RUclips channel.
Recently started fishing large lakes (I'm use to bassing in creeks, rivers and ponds) and I didn't have much of an idea on how to find bass. This is the most informative video I have found on how to locate fish.
Wonderfully done and extremely educational as always, Matt! I grew up fishing as a kid, but fell out of it when I moved off to another city for college. I finally now have the time and places to fish again, and I'm falling in love with it all over. Since it's been so many years from when I used to fish, I decided to not only brush up on my knowledge, but to expand it as well. This channel has been everything I was looking for and more, and I hope to see it break 100k subs here before too long. You guys deserve it
Matt, this is by far the greatest video breakdown on how to establish a pattern - simple & to the point. I learned more in 11 minutes & 30 seconds that you can imagine! thanks again.
You guys have got to be the greatest RUclips channel for the best education. The way you break it down makes it so much easier for us that can't devote so much time. Thanks for all the hard work behind the scenes!!
This is one of the best videos you guys have ever made. Please make more videos like this where you break down your days on the water and explain what decision you made and why you made them!
Matt, thank you so much for doing this video. This is probably one of the very best bass fishing videos on all the internet. It applies to everyone, from bank fishermen to people who have full tournament rigs. It also applies to novices up through professional fishermen. I can look back at almost every trip where I've struggled and see where this type of thinking would have made so much sense.
Hearing your thought process behind putting a pattern together was extremely helpful. I am highly interested in hearing more of your thinking behind establishing patterns during different weather conditions. This is very applicable. Thank you!
Awesome video like always Matt. Lots of information. To help us out on the water. Also great seminar. Got some good tips. for this year. Was my first time going to ISE. Stopped by your booth and got me some gear. Tight lines
So I went camping and fishing a week ago. I’ve never fished by myself. After watching a lot of fishing videos over the last year and going a few times with my son different places I decided to try to do some of the tactics I’ve watched. I caught a bass in 5 min. The kids fished all day and I couldn’t believe I caught one just throwing my line out and playing around with ideas I’ve seen. I was so excited and I’m addicted to fishing now. There is a zone your mind goes in to that I love. I think I finally found my niche.
That's why I love Bass Fishing. Figuring out the puzzle is my 2nd favorite part. #1 is catching pigs!! Thanks for making Mon, Wed, Fri a little bit better while I wait for the ice to melt!
Wow Matt, that was truly one of the best, most complete tutorials I've seen on how to pattern fish. I will bookmark this one, and refer back to it often. Thanks for dedicating your channel to teaching - you and Tim are very good at it!
Man thank you for the this. I just fish out of a John boat for now but man this opened my mind and I would have caught more yesterday. I didn't even realize I was on a crawdad pattern. Stuck some hogs though. Appreciate you guys. Always great!
Mat, Fantastic job going through what it takes to think through a fishing situation with out electronics. I LOVE the "thinking" aspect about fishing and you do it really well. Thank you for sharing a professional's break down and nailing the pattern. I have tried to establish patterns but some how get lost in the process which I know is only because I don't fish enough to see the options and make the "correct" eliminations. I will now stay true to my initial thinking and when lost take a few steps back and try again from a different perspective and see if I can do better in establishing a pattern to fish out. Thanks for all you and Tim do to. It matters. Peace.
Thank you for this information!! I fish from the bank and also from small boats without any electronics and this was very helpful! In fact, I was just out yesterday and I was thinking that it would be nice if there were some videos about locating fish when you don't have electronics....Thanks again!
This is the best "Pattern" tutorial video I have watched. It helped me with a new mindset. Been watching you for a couple years now, and I really like your channel...From "Southern" Illinois.....Thanks!
Thanks for the tips, ive been fishing for bass for over 10 years (im 20 yrs old) from the shore and finding tips that apply to my type of fishing is rare.
Matt and Tim, this was excellent and fascinating at the same time! The progression of the logic of elimination to dial in an approach is something I’ve never heard so concisely. Very helpful. That said, there were a couple of scenarios that didn’t get discussed. What if you hadn’t been bit on the spinner at all? Also, what about no bites on the flashy swim? Do you change locations? Try another color of something? Or, do you feel like, in the rising water scenario, these situations would not likely happen? Again, thanks as always. Super stuff.
I just ordered my first real bass boat. Nuttin fancy but it is a luxury liner compared to what I've had before and it will allow me to fish many different places I've never been able to fish before. I will use the knowledge I've learned from you and look forward to a much better year. Thanks for sharing your experience.
Best video ever! You should come down south to Castaic lake. Fishing is tough here and I'd love to see how you break down the water. You should do a video with Bill Siemantel. You guys would kill it
Not only are these winter series incredibly helpful, but there is sooo much neglected about guys who cant always get on a boat and have to bank it, this is one of the best fishing channels out there!
Fantastic breakdown. We hit the lake for the first time this year and got nada. It was from the bank this time too. I tried jig, spinner, and wobbler. I did not try an underspin. Awesome video Matt! Thank you for sharing. I'll set down with the wife and we will work up a plan to break down our lake this weekend.
This is my biggest problem on the water, figuring out what to throw and how long to try it. Would never of thrown a spinner bait in Jan. before. Thanks for more great info.
Best video ever about how to find a pattern! Can you do a video like this but for finding big bass/fishing with big swimbaits? If possible with tips for bank anglers. Thanks!
great video. and for someone like myself that is going to try tournaments more this year I see it helping on other and new bodies of water as well. I knew there was a reason I keep watching your stuff. another job well done, keep it up. safe travels and god bless.
Hey Matt and Tim, it was awesome meeting you guys. I was happy to find out that you guys are as awesome and gracious in person as on screen. I respected you a ton before, but now you are at another level in my book. I was the guy that had you rub off some of that good luck on my reel. Keep up the good work, and to everyone else: if you get a chance to talk to these guys, you wont regret it!
Best instructional video on how to create a pattern EVER!!!!!!! This helps so much. As soon as the ice melts off my lakes i will be using the info in this video to find and catch fish! Any tips for ice out bass? Lol
That was an awesome video matt that helps so much. Alot of other videos just touch on it a little bit, but your video really broke it down perfectly. Thank you so much
This is the best basic breakdown I've ever seen taught! If you are a Bass angler, this video should be pinned, and watched everyday! Thanks Matt for such a great piece.
Omg this makes a ton of sense. Changing baits as the depth changes. Based on water clarity and the mood of the fish. I'd like to add. You can also once you find the baits that's working, use multiple baits that look very similar to what that one bait Is to keep the bite going.
Ridiculously good vid! I love the pattern example. To me busting a pattern wide open is the funnest part. You guys just made my fishing bucket list. See you within the next 4 years! Lol!
Super great video matt loved every second and you were right on as a experienced fisher man sometimes we even need to listen to the basics sometimes and think bout them so thanks man great video.
Thanks again Matt for your great advice. I’m up here in Northern New Jersey and we have hard water but as soon as we get a flaw I’ll be out there give that a try.
I wish i could learn how to achieve such a mentality to break down a lake. it seems like no matter how hard I try, I find myself hooking into a fish and not really truly knowing why or decrypting a pattern. coming from a bank fisherman: these videos still help. I am buying gamakatsu ewg trebles
Greatest informative channel on RUclips, hands down! Could you guys ever do a video on limited fishing time available. I live with 3 kids and my girlfriend. I almost never have an entire day to fish. Please give tips on basically “fishing on a curfew”.
Im in only 1 minute and just surfed the comments real quick to see how good of a video this would be and im amazed by all the excellent appraisal this video is getting
absolutely awesome video!!!! This is the best video on how to dial in a pattern i have ever seen an this is why I love your guys videos. Keep up the GREAT work guys!!!! P.S. just this video alone makes you guys deserve to have a million plus subscribers.
I have been watching your channel for years and just now subscribed. You guys have so much helpful information and knowledge as well as great tips when the bite gets tough out on the water! I can’t believe it took me this long to subscribe to your channel! If you ever make it to Alabama and fish Lake Jordan please let me know. I can’t believe you only have 80,000 subs when you put out the best outstanding bass fishing tutorials , others put out more garbage in the interest to make more money’s and get more subs and views ...I know it’s not a fair world but damn if any one deserves better its your Chanel ...never stop , I love your dedication.
If the water is clear, making color an issue, would you switch colors before changing the type of bait? Or fine tune the color after you find the right bait?
Matt, Awesome video. Loads of great information for the vast amounts of people without boats. A great video to come back and re-watch from time to time!! As a followup, What was the model of Shimano expride you were throwing your jig on in the video. Thanks!
I virtually never comment on YT videos, but this is an exception. Please, more pattern methodology like that!!
seriously the same! I never comment but I've commented in multiple TB videos now!
you guys always break things down in an easy to understand way and I really appreciate that. I ALWAYS learn something when I watch your vids.
I wonder if he'll ever come back to this video lol
Love your vids lojo
While most fishing channels are trying to sell me brands, Tacticalbassin is trying to actually educate me. Thank you!
Keitech's don't need to be sold. Literally everyone throws them. They are the new Senko.
Fishthemoment has a GREAT educational channel
Allan Hise thanks, I'll check it out.

Tim Petrucci I really wish my local stores had rhythm waves tbh I like them better
This is why I watch TB, I don't even bass fish but these strategies apply to all fishing.Thank you!

Best video ever!

Amazing information guys. I went out yesterday to cherokee lake here in TN and the water temp was fluctuating from 38 to 41.
Not only are these winter series incredibly helpful, but there is sooo much neglected about guys who cant always get on a boat and have to bank it, this is one of the best fishing channels out there!

Awesome Matt!! Your breakdown of simplifying a pattern is unique. This will help them weekend warriors.
This is my biggest problem on the water, figuring out what to throw and how long to try it. Would never of thrown a spinner bait in Jan. before. Thanks for more great info.
