Gut Reaction: MATT RHULE & NEBRASKA'S GUT PUNCH OF A LOSS TO ILLINOIS
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 20 сен 2024
- Adam Carriker expresses the frustration most Husker fans are feeling right now. Tony White's Blackshirts struggled to stop the Illinois passing attack, Dylan Raiola played well overall, but Nebraska's offense struggled to run the ball & the Huskers special teams need to improve quickly. There are some positives, but Nebraska left several points on the field & the refs definitely had an impact on the game as well.
Does this kill the momentum Nebraska had built so far this season? It hurts it, but it doesn’t kill it. CarrikerChronicles.com
Adam, this is not a one score loss. Neb was favored by 7 or 8, with the 7 pt loss, it was a 15 pt swing.
Once again your enthusiasm gets crushed. Why do you continue to do this? A millionaire many times over, can't you find a much better use of your time. Ask your son if he respects you for not admitting this is a waste of time.
Neb had won every 50th game during the sellout.
CU BROKE NU
Dead at halftime
3:53 lol yup CU BROKE NU
The Blackshirts should give back their shirts
I believe this team is heading in the right direction. Tonight was a wake up call though, still a long way to go
Ten yrs ago there was a wake up call, for us to stop being out coached at halftime.
I could not have said it better my friend I believe this game will humble us in a different way these next few games will show it
Big team refs suck balls , Tony White got out coached, Special teams need lots of work , why the F didn't we try and get a first down on 3rd and 3 😮 in always for the kids love the team and where we are going GBR 🤘🔥🔥🤘🤘 I have faith
So I'll start with I'm an Illini fan, GG. The difference in this game was the offensive line and special teams. The Illini gave up 2 sacks and 2 TFL, Nebraska gave up 5 sacks and 7 TFL. IL average 4.3 YPR and Neb averaged 1.5 Ya'll missed the one FG and while your punter had a very respectable 50 yards per punt you gave up 20 yards per return. a net of 30 yards per punt and none of the punts ended with IL inside of their own 20. Both IL punts were inside of the 20 and I think one was inside the 5.
Raiola is truly special, and could be the best QB in the Big ten in a year or two. Having said that he's got to get some help from a more balanced attack and hopefully where he's not running for his life so much.
@@ianemory5800 I agree with all that Bilema always has tough line play. However if the kicker makes the dang FG there is no OT..
And yes I know "if ifs were a fifth we'd all be drunk"
Ohio state fan. This was a really good game. Until mid in the 4th quarter it was very well played and exciting. Both QBs played well
O- H! ……
Oline is our biggest issue. We cannot run the ball. More teams will be bringing the heat going forward.
Can't run block and allow to much pressure on our QB
Would help a little if running backs were bigger
@@richardarrieta5006 Gabe Ervin is 6'1 220... not bad size. But not sure if he is the same after all the injuries
Illinois came in with a great game plan and executed well. The sad thing to me is that they out-physicaled NU. That is unacceptable given all the resources that NU has to develop that physicality. NU couldn't stop the run when it mattered, nor could it run well on O during crunch time. I give the Illini credit. They played hard and worn NU down.
Refusing to call holding will do that.
Well said spot on take!
Bielema has beaten Nebraska with less talent for years. Remember the historic beat down he gave the huskers in the Big Ten championship game against Pelini?
Props to you Adam for thinking we were gonna win the whole time. They way that D was playing. I knew we were screwed in the second half. But props to them for at least taking it to OT. We are not good in the second half!! Every game that's been evident.
Offensive line is not good. Our running backs are small
Nebraska running backs are to small
Offensive line allowed to much pressure on Raiola.
The biggest area of improvement Adam is teaching our kids how to win close games. I feel shame when I see a close game where Nebraska is tied and I just assume we will find a way to lose or self destruct.
Can't run the football in short yardage situations. That has got to change.
I have to admit Illinois played very well. A lot of teaching moments for us. Hope to learn and improve. Still can see 9 wins
surely you joke!, if not then what were you watching
Illini fan here. Yes, I can see UN getting 8 or 9 wins. This was a great game. Both programs look like mirrors of each other. Nebraska is not at all done this season. They are looking like a team that will keep improving.
Agreed! @@larrykirby5036
Love the huskers for life, but penalties, points left on the field, not finding a way to win the game, is gonna burn us every time. Dylan played a good game, our defense seemed to be lost at times
Offensive line allowed to much pressure on Raiola
Agree on both counts!!
Wrong side of field punt gave ill a big return,,,, and there is that missed fg....
Running with our 3rd string left tackle, 2cnd string Lguard hurt,,,, special teams were a killer,,,,
2nd string kicker, ouch
Threw up a gallon of red Rhule-Aid tonight.
Serving it up like Jim Jones 🥴
Don't blame the coach for poor execution on both sides
@@corbenlibich4133 so did the Illinois players make themselves better from last year to this year? I think it’s coaching and Bielema has owned several husker coaches over the years. It’s because of him and his staff that he trains and coaches up lesser talent and has them better prepared to play and he wins nearly every time.
@@corbenlibich4133 but i will blame him for challenging a call that was clear on the replay AND for not going on 4th & 3 instead of sending in a second string kicker
I feel your pain, I drank the kool aid, too.
At this point in the season, our defense is NOTT playing good at alll. Last two games they haven't even shown up.
It’s because there overrated! They were good against crap badly coached teams. Then everyone thought they were playoff caliber! 😂
Then a mediocre Illinois team came in and brought everyone back to reality. Illinois isn’t that good.
tony white not going to get a head coaching job now. lol. hopefully he does so we can get a new defensive coach.
DEFENSE SUCKED, REFS SUCKED, TV ANNOUNCERS WERE HOMERS
Illinois was better than us. Rhule doesn’t beat ranked teams. But beats the scrubs teams that we’ve lost to for a decade plus. So that’s an improvement.
@@oldironsides4107 😂
Of course blame the refs. Typical Nebraska Cornhusker scumbag excuse.
The refs sucked for both sides. 🤷 Nebraska got a completely BS touchdown due to a missed blatant facemask call that was the only reason this game even went to overtime. Nebraska just cannot execute at the end of big close games against quality opponents for whatever reason. Blaming the refs for this is crappy cop-out.
The last game, when we couldn't effectively defend against the run, that worried me. And here we are.
I said it last week and got blasted for my comment but our D got pushed around last week vs UNI. 0 and 8 get zero penetration and are irrelevant unfortunately in the pass rush. You could build a house within the gaps of our zone coverage…. Just disgusting. We will be lucky to get 6-7 wins.
I got blasted the same as you! UNI owned time of possession, yards after contact, and no sacks from the Nebraska D. Illinois exposed the D again. The entire Big Ten will keep exposing.
Your 💯 correct Northern Iowa had sum success up front running the ball. As did Illinois... Our defense couldn't get off the field on third downs!
It is amazing but Nebraska knows how to lose games in the 4th quarter and in overtime.
There is something about the Big 10 that brings out the losing in Nebraska.
This is not just on Scott Frost.
Purdue lost by 59 points to Notre Dame, hope Nebraska wins by at least 3.
Something about Nebraska, they do not know how to bury teams in the 4th quarter.
They couldn't get the ball back in the third quarter.
Officiating? Sure!
If losing games in the 4th quarter were national championships, we’d be Alabama.
Their lines beat up on us on both sides of the ball. They was the more physical team. Could not ask more out of a true freshman QB. Husker football has a lot to look forward to with Dylan as our QB. Bottom line is we had to many dumb penalties and to many points left off the board. Even if the touchdown was really a interception we shouldn't of missed a chip shot of a field goal.
The defense was absolutely horrible. No pressure on the QB. No secondary coverage. They need to get their act together before Riaola gets hurt.
The offense was horrible. Could not up open holes thru the middle. The line could not block. Illinois exploited every weakness that Nebraska has had all season, and it took this game to expose them. Nebraska won the first 3 games against teams that posed no serious threat. Tonite was different. Continued undisciplined play on both sides of the ball contributed to the loss. When is this team going to get serious about getting a kicker? It has been the Achilles heel of this team for years. It is becoming the difference between winning and losing. They shoulda went for the first down at the end of the 4th instead of trying for the field goal. This team has a lot of growing up to do! The upcoming teams will see all the problems Nebraska has and will use that to defeat them.
You're the first person who has mentioned Raiola getting hurt. That is a big concern. I don't want him to get beat up like Martinez. If something doesn't drastically change then he could go out.
Defense at least had some positives tonight with turnovers. Special teams had no positives to take away from this game whatsoever.
In the Big10, you can’t have even just an ok special teams and hope to win. Ours aren’t even ok at this point.
Robinson and Hutchmaker were held all game and even got a ripped jersey to show proof of it
That’s what happens when you played against good offensive linemen
Much love and respect Carriker. You do a great job.
Subscribe.
After 3 games of about 30 penalties (10 a game), at what point do we stop blaming refs and start looking at coaching.
Dude was uppercutting a player 4, 5 times on the ground like MMA in a close game?!?!?
WTF? I am looking at coaching at this point.
Look at the opponents. Both teams do the penalties, but the Huskers get called. A guess; Harbaugh won by cheating. Do you imagine other teams, from a few to many others, are less likely to do the same? Officiating has ALWAYS BEEN QUESTIONABLE to downright bad. That's the game, it's still fun to watch. - Case in point, a one handed catch with a glove on. Stickem' sprayed THICK!?! I thought that was not allowed but...
Micah Mazzccua moves the line - We need him. No running game
I don’t want to be in the Big10 anymore. The reffing is horrible every game we play for some reason. I’m not sure ILL had a single post snap penalty. What’s the point of watching or getting excited for football when the reffing just ruins every game. If they hate us let us leave. I just for once want to see even reffing in a big game. The reffing was a 14+ point swing in the game.
I’m just so sick of losing because of how undisciplined we are, rather than because we are playing teams better than we are; they’re not. I thought that was Matt Rhule’s specialty. Still waiting to see that change. I guess it’s only year 2
I wrecked my diet after the game,
Comfort food and crack another BEER!
@bruceplumisto Don’t let them do it to you, brother. Been there, done that, and trust me: they ain’t worth it. You’ll only feel even worse the next day when you wake up to the loss AND you have to start all over again.
Can someone explain something. Why wasn't that interception in the endzone pass interference.
Defender never looked for the ball and was running through Neylor before the ball got there. Maybe I am missing something
1 thing I understand great teams beat the refs
Don’t think we should be surprised by this loss. We got confirmation or maybe reinforcement on a couple of things. 1) behind the glamour and excitement of this “new look”, the program from the last decade is still there. 2) Memorial is not intimidating for above average teams. 3) missing a bowl game is very much a reality. Hope and want to be wrong.
1. We gave illinois two touchdowns with the massive, multi 15 yard penalties we accrued.
2. Refs screwed us olby not calling a hold call, a PI call and an unsportsmanlike call.
3. The unsportsmanlike call against us was him trying punch the ball out not punching the illini ball carrier... bs.
4.We left 10 points on the field.
5. We did not get out coached.
6. Offense failed us and Raiola terribly in overtime.
7. Defense was leaving wide open gaps in the line for them to run and always fell for the 3rd down cross center throw. Illini did that to us 4 times and they were always open.
8. Where tf are the QB spies? QB almost always had a side to run freely. Predictable and ridiculous.
Defense looks bad and special teams is terrible. Offensive line gave up at the end. Feel bad for Dylan
Same song another season; how long have we been pointing at special teams. How long have we been saying we need some kickers. Not just one but back ups for back ups.
Still look like a frosted team just can't win the ones that matter SMH watching Nebraska footballs like listening to a broken record😢😮
Most impressed by Illinois with that secondary, and Scott - - that kid is a monster corner.
Super downbeat about the defense being so poor. How in 2024 after all the work by conditioning etc are be being out-physical-ed? So humiliating.
GBR.
The pass defense was bad.
3 wide open receivers with touchdowns.
Out coached.
Rhules 51-50 all time only win vs top25 is navy! 😅he’s always outcoached
Yep!
@@senorpimps4678 Rhule is 2-20 against ranked teams.
Nebraska defense got exposed by UNI and Illinois exposed the defense again. The Big Ten will continue to expose the defense! The biggest concern for Nebraska is keeping your absolute best player! Raiola!!!! That kid is phenomenal unfortunately the rest of the team isn’t up to his speed. Special teams sucks, defense overrated, and receivers that can’t win 50/50 balls. How good would Raiola be at Ohio State, Georgia, and Alabama. Something tells me this season is game film for Raiola to transfer. I hope I’m wrong. GBR!!!
Yep... saw sum concerns in the UNI game in regards to stopping the run!
That's even more doom and gloom than we need. Don't put that out, speak that into existence man, it's bad juju.
GBR
It’s reality!
A lot of people were saying the defense WASN'T exposed last week. I highly disagreed. This week Raiola was exposed. All a team has to do is get to him a few times and unfortunately I think he folds. This is the first game that Raiola actually got pressured.
@hmmmyuup3669 stop reaching
Yep Illinois made it look easy
Penalties made it easy for Illinois, far more than you think the Illini did.
Adam, truthfully, don't you think it's time for NU to start looking for an exit strategy from the Big 10?
The “interception” was kingmaking on the part of the refs. The missed field goal was inexcusable.
We just don't have the coaching. Seems like we never will. This program is tiresome.
And now the defense isn't holding up their end. I am now on wait and see. Can't get excited about this team, with this defense. Just disgusted.
Sure, they may have lost at home and failed on the national stage yet AGAIN, but….how about that light show, though! Maybe they’ll bring back “Can You Feel It?” so we can finally have something else to celebrate (you know-something besides results on the field)
Defense and Special Team's SUCKED!!! Your not gonna win a game with 48 yard's rushing. Oh and we got out coached horribly...
Ya seemed like Illinois had some really good plays that we were unprepared for.
@@joshmccann9348 I agree 💯
4 sure!
Keep your heads up people! Know they will get, much much better!
Coaches have been horrible in game coaches for years
Brent B. always kicks ass in the line play.
Raiola was sacked for -52 yds. That’s probably where the rushing stats seem off.
CONGRATS ON 20K SUBS! 👍
Mr. Carriker, Whatever happened to IF you are in control of the ball and it breaks the plane of the goal line it is a touchdown? That call that blanking ref called it an interception was total BS. If anything it should have been called an incomplete pass.
Wrong, you have to complete the process. As he was bringing in, he didn't secure it.
Illinois coach did what Nebraska did in the past bring more pressure on Dylan. It did two things. Pressure on Dylan and stopped the run game
Penalties played a HUGE role.
Keep drinking the kool aid!!!! First real team and a loss, keep playing the uteps.
Few thoughts…
- Illinois coaches are head and shoulders better than Nebraska’s. Came to town with less talented players, less resources and won.
- FYI, nobody comes to Nebraska in the last 10+ years expecting to lose. Nebraska football has been a bottom feeder for a lot of years, so it’s a win that most teams check as a win on their calendars before the season kicks off.
- Second half of every game we played this year showed signs of regression compared to what the team did in the first half. Having trouble adjusting or staying ahead of the competition?
- UNI should’ve been a wake up call when a vastly under talented team came in and exposed the black shirts.
Exactly, refreshing to read a no bs explanation and true evaluation of the team. Can you imagine the score without Raiola. Illinois was all business.
@@MrMaideniac black shirts couldn't get off the field on 3rd downs to save there life !
Our pass coverage was rough. Way too many guys running uncovered.
The announcers were extremely for Nebraska, they were freaking embarrassing
last week I did say I was impressed with the offensive line. This week i'm really disappointed in them. Can we figure out how to be consistant no matter who the team is?? I noticed too that tonight the safeties always had a hole where they couldnt get to the WR or whoever. Whats up with that?
Great observations 👍
BRING BACK THE FROST !! TERMINALKY OVERHYPED..BIG RED
Satterfield ran out of ideas. Tony White was out coached. Both lines pushed around.
4 sure!
Adam: if you were a defender in this locker room what would your message to your teammates be after tonight?
They ruined the 400 sell out and to be honest I been a fan since 99 im still here but to be real Dylan is gone fellas it’s just not realistic
Adam I’m sorry. I have been a Nebraska die hard since 2009. I am giving up. I’m 27 years old and all I know from Nebraska football is being terrible, mediocre at best. Hurts me to say this but I’m going to have to find a new team.
It seemed like we couldnt defend the same play action concept along the goal line they ran the same sneak a player out to the flat of the endzone 3 times for a td when are we going to learn to cove r it
Defense lost the game. Take the black shirts away from them
Both teams played well, were they perfect? No, but we all knew this was going to be like Tulsa on a Saturday night...especially against a Bielema coached team. GG to Illinois, now onto the next.
🔴⚪️🌽☠️
Illinois converted nearly all their third down plays. I think the defense got worn down. The team has a lot of work to do. Hopefully, they will do better next week.
Absolutely 💯 spot on! That was brutal just brutal... One step forward 2 steps back!
You must know by now that in college football they include sacks in the rushing yards tally.
14 points left on the field. 50/50 ball and the overthrow. Penalties or not, execution fell through the cracks.
add the TD instead we could've gotten if Ramir Johnson had stayed in-bounds, and it's 18 points left on the field by having to settle for a fg. plus the missed fg at the end, it's closer to 21 points left on the field
@@Snarflelocker Yep, that is just loss of focus or awareness, whatever, it shouldn't happen.
In overtime the referees and everybody knew it and saw it. Play they did not call targeting unnecessary roughness and unsportsmanlike after I play all 3 in OT one play Illinois better thank the refs
lol, get out of here
Is it just me or were the refs totally looking for ways to help Illinois? Are we really that bad with all those penalties or did the refs overlook all the holds?
From the get go the refs were all Illinois. Embarrassing 😮
Even my husband’s best man, who HATES the Huskers, conceded that Illinois should have been flagged for the late hit on 3rd down in OT.
If you need refs to win the game for you, the problem more times than not lies within.
Yep, finally, someone sees what I see the 12th, man. Otherwise, you have the win period. Even the damn commentators on fox.
The calls against the Huskers usually far outnumber their conference opponents. It's been a trend for all the years Nebraska has been in the B1G. Research it, I think you'll be surprised.
This is a better team than last year but we are not going to win against all teams we are supposed to.
Both d line and O line sucked tonight
In some ways we probably were the better team, but the killer was the penalties coming at just the right time!!
And you let a team that struggled to run the ball run all over you in the second half/overtime.
No worries! They didn't let me down! RED TILL DEAD!!
Offensive line is not ready yet for big ten play
This how rhules career is. He doesn’t beat ranked teams. Never has. His best season lost to all ranked teams and beat the shit teams.
Which that is good for us today. Rank 1 or 25. We will lose 99/100 or rhule does anyways.
we are weak, soft, and slow and got outcoached by a man with a gunt on the 400th sellout.
I had a bad good feeling everybody says trust your gut well mine was right😢
B1G refs have sucked for years. Yes, we were out coached and I think it's a toss up between our special teams and trench play
Refs definitely wild, our d coordinator definitely got outcoached (it seemed like no adjustments were going to be made regardless of what the other team did, no pressure on 3rd and long, and no answer to the play action in the red zone), tosh up between special teams and defense (special teams our punter is getting it deep with what seems like plenty of hang but coverage is not there, and field goals it is hard to say as he was backup, only missed one, and laces were not right) (defense can be giving up long passes over the middle on 3rd and long against every team, if I was coaching against us with okay qb and receives I would throw even on 3rd and short as we get beat in man by TEs and people get lost over the middle in zone leaving them wide open 10+ yards deep, when we only rush 3 or 4 on 3rd and long but they get guys open when we know what they are going to do, also seems like we have no answer when the QB decides to run, they are going to get 8+ yards every time). If defense isn't fixed we are going to lose to teams we should beat like tonight, if special teams aren't fixed we are going to never beat teams the same or better than us. Also if special teams are not fixed we have options of being riskier with the offense (going for it on 4th, treating 3rd down like 2nd down, etc) but if the defense isn't fixed we will just lose unless we put up 30 points a game similar to early Scott Frost team.
Nebraskans need to proudly hold up their index fingures at the start of the 1st quarter, because that's it. Come the 2nd half and it's all over. You will be watching great athletes lose to a team with suoerior coaching.
I had and have more faith in Scott Frost than i have in god. When i read that he was golfing instead of watching film or taking meetings, i knew there was someone there stoping him from doing what he wanted to do, so he took there money and gave them the finger. What has changed? I'll tell you, a lot of money has been spent so we can put out superior athletes ob the field that are always unprepared to pkay in tge 2nd half.
Crowd was not anything crazy like against Colorado. BS looked pathetic. Most passing went to the right side of field, Defense did not note this trend(IMO). When we need the TD in OT our offense, the line looked like they gave up. Too many penalty’s and none of the calls went our way. The TV announcers were terribly Biased towards Illinois.
Just like ND Irish 😪. Tough loss
Illinois won and deserved it. We do have a good team though. Maybe not great but definitely good.
Answer: Our D line and O line lost. The O line not as much as the D line. Plus the Unsportsmanlike stuff Sherman and Jackson, missed field goal and not going for it on the 4th and 4.
Big ten Champs !! Big Red ..Of hype !!!
The D got tired, Ri can throw but not really mobile for college, D burned 3 time on basically the same play. IL first TD was really bad D. Neyer needs to work on caughting the ball.
Fire Ed Foley!
We had -2 yards in second half
Rhule needs to run a REAL D not a prevent D. This D is not even Close to as good as ANY of the D's Suh was on and his only got to 4th in the country. I like our QB. He is a step better than the last martinez was and might have been the diff. in making a lot of those 1 score losses wins. Nebraska is NOT even close to a top 30 team. I felt this would be a close game and that if Illinois could keep it close in the 1st half then the last team to score would win and thats what happened.
Our D SUCKS they are way to light. And sadly our O learned how not to score in the 2nd half of games and thats really what happened. And our RBs are not that good. The guys catching the ball trust our QB and will fight for the ball which is good. And I think our QB felt the pressure a little in OT.
My question is how can the D not cover the short yardage plays near the goal line. 3 scores off little out routes to the corners of the end zone. Expected much better from the blackshirts.
Those open players blocked and blocked on run plays. When they passed our defense give them clean releases trying not to get blocked. Wide open touchdowns
Could be what they needed to keep their feet on the ground; not a big deal if we beat either OSU or USC.
Huskers played really well. I think Nebraska is at where Illinois was last year. Clean up some penalties, kick a better field goal (we have two crazy good kickers), boom - you win the game? But, that's not how the cookie crumbled. Tough calls by the refs but there are ALWAYS tough calls in every game. Illinois coaching had a great game plan. I think the one big problem Huskers have to clean up - TOP was pretty equal but Huskers D looked tired as the second half wore on (or was that just me?). Shout out to the always great Huskers fans. You hosted an awesome game. Also, i come here and watch your channel all the time and I'm not even a Nebraska fan. Great job as always. =)
I think they are Gassing out by Halftime due to Lack of emotional control. they come in Juiced up then Fade out! need to manage this better from here on out. Cant come in too hyped!
just an observation
Same shit different day. They don't deserve a 5 star qb. Sure as shit don't play like they deserve one.
Nebraska fires Solich 10 and 2 and Pelini for a 9 and 3 record. Over horse shit reasons. Now, Nebraska has had several coaches and staff that can't get it figured out. Now Rhule the rebuilder steps up. As head coach blame comes there 1st. When adjustments needing to be made on the fly and aren't. Then who's to blame? Excuses need to stop. Yes won 3 and alot of football left to play. This should have been a manageable win for Nebraska. Didn't see much a emotion on sideline until Ty Robinson and Ceyair Wright got into it on the sideline. Crazy!!!!
Solich was 16-12 his last 28. Beat 1 team that finished ranked, McNeese St. Pelini never won a game that mattered.
Blame the program for not getting real winners and contenders.
Hahaha. We did not see the same game apparently.
Yada, Yada, Yada.
Refs in two games have ripped nebraska out of 28 points. 21 points last game and 7 crucial points in the Illinois game. Inexcusable!!!!!!!!!
This guy doesn’t even watch the game cant remember key pts in game
