In all other videos in youtube a7c looks better in low light, but in yours now it's not. Thank you for making this comparison video! I was hoping that someone would, since the a7c seems very similar to the ZV-E1.
Ya know, what I would REALLY love to see you do is a video showing the complete behind the scenes production of your videos. Specifically how you set or change exposure and settings as you shoot in a day - what modes you use, exposure set(s), setting WB, etc..
They should have just made an A7Cii.
The price of the A7Cii is going to be crazy.
A7cii will be A7IV in smaller body. Not A7SIII
I'm waiting for the a7Cii
I don’t need a7cii , my a7c is more than i will ever need. No to the race to get always newest. A7c is very good for all scenario. I will keep my a7c for at least 15 years or more.
@@Alton_Roundtree should be the same increase as the a7IV…. But yes probably $800 more..
Thanks Jason! The Versus I needed🔥
Excellent review - as an owner of the a7c - your review told me I bought the right camera ! Thx Jason and keep up the great videos!
As A7C user, this was the video I was looking for! Thanks, perfect and clear as usual!!
I’m pretty happy with my Sony ZV-1. It’s so small and light, I can bring it everywhere in our vacation trip. It’s also so easy to use, I can set it in intelligent auto mode and have my wife record our vacation video. The lens is not quite wide, but luckily me and my wife have pretty long arms, combined with Ulanzi mini tripod that you recommended, we have a decent wide angle to record our vlog. I’m still waiting for Sony ZV-2, though, hopefully with wider lens.
Bringing that heat into these reviews. Great job!
This is the video I need! knew I could count on Jason Vong 🎉
This is the comparison that I needed. Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the video. I love my A7C and now I know I don’t need to upgrade to the E1. Love your content 🙏
Thanks, I was waiting for that comparison😃
I initially doubt the release of Sony ZV-E1 but I appreciated it eventually when I think of it as a complimentary camera. It's a good buy for those who already have Sony A7III / A7C / A7IV for an upgrade to video who's doing hybrid (photo / video) but I can't say much how's the Sony ZV-E1 when it comes to reliability in using it professionally due to its overheating issue or limitation.
Wow, thank you so much! It's four months later now. I'd love to see a comparison between the just announced _A7c II_ and the _ZV-E1_
waiting for A7C II!!
If you focus on photo the a7c is a better option because of the mechanical shutter, but if you focus more on video stuff and want that 10 bit capability the ZVE1 is a better buy, I wished the a7c had a cfexpress slot which would tremendously help on sports photography.
Thanks for the comparison! I think I’m going to hold on to my a7C until we see how the ZV-e1 actually handles 4k120.
Thanks for this video man
My A91 and Zeiss 35.14 was stolen recently. I think I’m going to purchase an A7C due to this video. I don’t need the fast shutter speed anymore and I do mostly portraits too. This was super helpful since I’m on a budget!
I hope you get new lenses
I use apac lens such as sigma 18-50/2.8 and sony 10-18/F4 on my a7 c. It can still shoot 4k. that's a huge plus for me as it's very light weight, and has ibis.
Thanks for this, very helpful!
thanks for your hard work making this video
You are just the best. Amazing video man.
Great review. What about the Sony zy-e1 vs the fx30 for content creator beginners
I’ve had an a7c since launch and I love it. I use it primarily for photography, sometimes video on a gimbal. If the price matched the a7c I’d say it would be a good match. I’d wait for a price drop or a used e1 to justify the new toy cost
I want to get the E1 so I can use it as a webcam for my stream and keep my a7c with me at all times for photography
@@ITZkinggjoseph see that makes sense since you have a specific purpose. The price is a bit high, but it’s a new toy so what can you do!
@@ITZkinggjoseph e1 camera has overheating problem, so might not be the best for long streams.
@@Save.the.legends if I catch a used one at some point I might pull the trigger but I also feel like I could get an a7 series body for way less used right now
@@truthseeker6804 my zv-1 had the same issue
Thanks for all the wonderful camera related videos. They've been very helpful.
Higher megapixel cameras are great for photography, allowing for cropping in post -- I was curious, in your experience, does this also apply for video? Would shooting with a higher megapixel camera (a7iv/a7rv) allow for cropping video in post and still maintaining decent resolution? Thanks!
In UK you can get A7C + 24mm 1.4 GM for less than the price of ZV-E1 body only.
The End was the best part imo haha thanks bro!
really great videos! thank you
Thank you so much!!!
Thanks for this! I have the a7c and am soooo conflicted about the E1, especially since I've been using it more for video lately. That promised 1080 240 would be amazing, for example... But I still have to get stills at archery shoots sometimes, and in the bright daylight I really don't want to do it with just the screen. (also e-shutter sometimes goes weird for that fast movement)
Guess I gotta keep hoping for a a7cII ;)
Also love all the japan footage, I'm still hoping to run into you someday here ;)
The lack of EVF is a bigger deal than a lot of people assume. I have the ZV-E10, and the lack of EVF means I use the GH5 M2 90% of the time, and only use the ZV-E10 when Product Showcase is needed.
As a A7c user (photo and video), I miss 4K60p 10bit and a little better AF, hope A7cII will have it, so i`ll wait.
Low light is not a problem with f1.4 and f1.8 prime lenses.
One of the best youtubers to cover Japan
Hey Jason! So ok new body ZV-E1 BUT Sony still need to offer THE tiny and bright wide-angle PRIME lens. AND if we will crop as a 30% on dynamic mode, SO it needs to be 14mm or 15m full frame coverage! Agree? And I'm NOT talking about the 14 1.8 G MASTER, that one is big, heavy and expensive. It's something like the little APS-C Sony 11mm transformed to full frame aspect. Please tell them that would be lovely if it could be small and f/2.0, and if it's not possible, than ok, make it 14 or 15mm f/2.8. Small, compact and affordable.
With this kind of Dynamic CROP, all 20mm are not wide enough anymore, although the real 18-20mm is my favorite field of view for vlogs and a lot of other stuff.
Great video. Just make sure to set your focus manually if it doesn't work in auto.
Hi Jason! Can we please get a ZV-E1 vs FX30 video? Thanks!
I think we have both spent a lot of time in Japan/Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto etc. I do most of my street photography late afternoon and nighttime. For PHOTO-centric users... which would you pick if bias is low light?
That zv easy to use for beginners stuff ist actually really cool
I feel a little cheated because I see how Sony left the 7c aside and they haven't even released updates, nothing costs them to update the menu or add more options that it could easily support
Thank you this comment should be highlighted
Very well explained
Hello from Kanagawa! I loved Shiba Inu’s commemt “so sharp desu~” I hope to bump into you someday in Tokyo!
The ZV-E1 is 3200$ (usd!) body only in my country. It’s so insanely expensive compared to elsewhere. But I have no self control so I will get it but it sucks. Usually cameras are more similar in prices here.
My a7c is more than i need for photo and video. I will keep it for many many years. Photo are very high quality and video 8 bit are very nice on a7c. It is compact and reliable with mech shutter very good low light perf. Works great with the flagship flash. It is the best compact full frame for me. I won’t upgrade. My package is complete with two lens flash and remote bluetooth, smallrig cage, pro mic stereo mono. It is the best package for the price. It has no real weakness. Not the best everywhere but good or very good everywhere.
I'll wait for A7c II. Sure it'll have ZV-E1 AF features with 4k60 capability of A7IV, that's is more than enough.
Waiting for the A7cii to be announced :)
Thanks for the comparison! Was looking at the a7r for a secondary body next to my 7r3 for photos (don’t do much video), and guess I was right to look at it!
The positioning of the menu button on the A7C made me return it, glad they fixed it on the E1. Also viewfinder was just not good
Lol that’s a bizarre reason to sell a camera.
I’d wait for the a7c2 to be released later this year! 😮
Me too!
I hope Sony don’t use ZV-E1 asthe platform for A7cii with an improvement to screen and UI and that it. Hope they improve EVF as well
Me too…. But are we sure now there will be a II series ??? It looks like this one is a way of his evolution … even specs are différents . I love my A7C but because I use it a lot on vidéo work, I would love to get the A7C2 with 10 bit 422 and use slog 3 for colorgrading in DaVinci… 8 bit 420 is not enough for me and I use now Slog 2.. Also get more stabilisation and new auto focus ….
@@GrandPoune use HLG 2 and HLG 3 is better

Now I want an a7c 2 with all the new fun things of the zv-e1 and the sensor of the a7iv haha
Can we use super 35 mode with sony ZV E10 in 4k and 1080p?
I love my a7c, I also have the zv e10 but I do miss the viewfinder
Thanks for that comparison. Gives me an idea if I should replace my A7c or not. I know you’re experienced with the A7c. Great video!
So what's your decision?
@@user-ke5mw8mn2b I‘ll keep my A7c because photos are the main usage still and will add at a certain point the E1 for videos.
10:28 you should let them record something moving and not only black screen because then the camera has to do more work which also usually happens if you film something irl.
Jason! In what focal lenght will a 20 1.8 lens result when turning on dynamic active stabilisation?
Thank you!
Great video! I am an A7C user who primarily shoots video. I am planning to upgrade this year because I am looking for 4K 60fps and I want to learn to color grade so I’m looking for 10 bit color. I’m really interested in seeing how the A7C Ii, assuming it is released this year, compares to the ZV - E1.
Same! I’m now worried though because the price for the E1 is a bit high which makes me concerned that the price for α7CII is gonna be higher or there will be compromises to keep it in the same price range in order to not cannibalize the E1. Maybe no 4K120 or maybe even no 4K60.
@@mykeljewell how is the e1 expensive ? , The camera it was based on ( a7s3 & fx3 ) was even more
The a7s' was always destined to be more expensive than the a7' due to the more specialized sensor
The a7c mk2 will be cheaper due to it having more rolling shutter and lower usable iso ceiling
@@KNAPPAID I never said it wasnt priced accurately for its features. But It’s a $2200 camera & that’s a lot of money for a camera intended to be a an entry level style full frame camera. It’s priced at the same level as an A74, which to me, like I said, means that there could be some unfortunate cuts to an A7Cii to make it a proper value prop over just getting an A74. But we’ll see. My hope is that if the C comes it has most of the features of the 4’s sensor with the added autofocus ai of this new technology
No need to shoot with 60 fps dont waste your money
@@beirutgaming 60 fps is nice for the occasional b roll and speed ramping
Its also a lot friendlier to the eyes in social media
Could you make a video comparing the zve1 vs a7iv? The precis are similar and it seems to me that for video they are equivalent. The a7iv is less compact but takes 33mp photos. Also, what else is worth considering?
Sony if you’re listening A7C II with the new auto focus features, AI features, active dynamic stabilization and 4K60-120P
I’d be very conflicted. NGL. All that with an EVF. Sold.
0:48 But since ZV-E1 has variable shutter capability, I believe that's there to combat banding issues of LED lights?
A7c with stabilization of ZV-E1 would be perfect.
Could you compare E1 with Sony FX30 🙏🙏🙏? I am thinking what I should buy😃
Jason I bought the a7c because I mostly do photos, but wanted to buy the FX30 since I also shot videos. What do you recommend? Go FX or ZV?
I’d love to see a video about the best apsc lens that could be used with the 1.5 crop with this new camera. Since this new camera is so much smaller and lighter it seems like there should be some good combos to hack a lighter setup?
this sensor isnt good for apsc crop, since its not oversampling.
I will see what I can do! The only annoying thing would be to Clear Image Zoom every time the camera turns on 😅
@@JasonVong oh man that didn’t occur to me. For some reason I had assumed it would pull up at the last setting but guess not
Hey Jason! I was wondering if you could help me. I used to live in Japan and have not been able to go back for ten years. I am trying to plan a trip back soon and would like a camera, but I have to choose one at the moment before eventually buying both. I have an x100v at the moment and it's fantastic, but I think I would like some nice video while I am over there as well. I also have a Canon M50 Mark ii, but if I'm upgrading my camera bodies I was considering either the R6 Mark ii to stay with my Canon lenses, or one of these (Zv-E1/A7c). I just got my x100v and so it is still eligible for return. Do you have any recommendations please? Thank you so much for all your work and videos.
Very nice Video. Thank you very much. Which lense can i buy when i want make reel Videos at Home? I want to buy E1 :-)
Hi. The A7C is a better option, especially for beginners. It's cheaper. And the effect of the materials for a person who starts learning with video software will be the same. And advanced bloggers already have cameras, in ages better for this. The price of the ZV-E1 is not a bargain at all, you can find better and cheaper options, or high-end used ones. I don't see the need to have such an expensive "toy", but I could be wrong :)
Hey Vong What about Daily Vlogging as a daily vlogger record hole day video....... Can you suggest if we can use hole day
What was the ambient temperature while you were filming for that length of time though? It didn’t look all that hot. When testing for overheating this info is very important. I really think this camera is only going to be suited to cooler climates. There’s no way you will be able to record 4K 60 for any length of time in a city like Bangkok for example. Even in London this wouldn’t last long if the summer is anything like last year. This camera looks perfect in every way (for video) except for the heat issue, they should’ve put a cooling fan inside. It wouldn’t have impacted the size too much. I would guess that this is why the 120fps was held back too. All the reviews would show it overheating after a few mins, which would’ve just been bad PR
Exactly what I was thinking brother. Thermal stats are very important when purchasing a camera, especially for those who are going to be live-streaming or shooting outside. The 30 minute record limit on the ZV-E1 camera should have been emphasized since its clearly a main component due to the possibility of over heating- which currently isn’t an issue that the A7C has, it has amazing thermals and no record limit.
Vason Jong (lol) read my mind, I feel much better with my newly bought, 2 month old A7C now :') perhaps the ZVE-1 as a 2nd camera body, 2nd hand, 1 year+ in the future...
good comparison! how about zv-e1 vs fx30 nearly price
What about long content at 30fps and 60fps in zve1? I record everything in 30fps in studio. How much shorter is the camera recording capacity before overheating?

USB-C charging on the a7c can't keep up with power draw. Battery will slowly discharge of you use it for streaming, so a dummy battery is necessary
Thanks for uploading this! I'm enjoying the ZV-E1 content 😁Hope you're having fun with it

How do you get english menu cameras in Japan? I also live here and couldn’t find any (except used ones from import for a stupid markup)

Got my a7c on a deal as you said, it's a great camera for the price. I don't know about the zv e1 though. I'm aiming for the fx3 as I grow in video production, maybe for beginners I would say go for the zve1 and when you get good, move to the fx3 or a higher end camera anyway
I am also considering buying a7c mainly for video and some photos and I am in a tight budget. Are you saticfied with the quality video?
@@johnvisuals_ so much so. The camera is a beast. The only thing you are going to have issues with is picking a colour. They both look so good.
@@thearabicdp yes colour grading may be an issue as in time i will be issuing it more. Is 8 bit enough to start learning colour grading and after upgrading to 10 bit camera?
@@johnvisuals_ oh I meant the camera colour, as they have a classic camera two tone colour and a standard Sony black. As for the colour grading I never go above cine 2 with cinema colours. That gives you such a good range to fix issues and add a nice grade in post but not as good as slog I'm guessing but slog on a 8 bit camera is not recommended.
@@thearabicdp i guess the best you can get in colour is hdr or cine 2. Thank you for your suggestions
I hope they release the zv-e1 with the metal top like the a7c
Sony dominates the mid and high end flat top, rangefinder style mirrorless camera market with the FX3, FX30, A7C and now ZV-E1. The only other manufacturer I can see dropping a competitive full frame model into this space anytime soon is Panasonic LUMIX, given recent comments from one of their senior executives about the importance of producing ‘smaller’ cameras and LUMIX’s history with similar form factor MFT cameras. My hope would be that a LUMIX version would offer superior value for money like that offered by the S5 II vs A7IV. But for a Sony shooter, the ZV-E1 looks like an amazing piece of kit unless you are a hard core stills shooter.
The only other main weakness is that visually it is not appealing: it is void of any Fujifilm type emotional appeal.
Otherwise, well done Sony!
you can get active stabilization on 7C but its very annoying since its post production only.
Are u stuck using the features for beginners or can u use the zv e1 in full manual mode when shooting video?

zv e1 for video. the a7c is a good photo camera, but I'm one of those WANT 4k 60 and 4k 120, I want that low light capability when I don't have lighting available. The a7c falls short quickly and leaves me wanting more. Forgot to mention I rarely take photos as it's not my main focus.

I'm honestly so conflicted about buying the ZV-E1. Yes it seems to be a great camera with all the latest and greatest features, but knowing sony, a full frame follow up to the sony a7s3 is definitely in the works and will likely bring even better features. But is it worth waiting for the a7s4 when we've already been waiting long enough.... What would you guys do?
