  • Despite being priced quite similarly to the equivalent AWD Honda CR-V (RM169k) and being significantly cheaper than the 2.5L AWD Mazda CX-5 (RM181k), we felt that the Forester had been overlooked and underrated. Is it the looks? The powertrain? Or even the brand? We took a closer look, to find out why.

    For those who said
Hardly need AWD, it is as good as saying Seat belt and airbag are hardly used. You do not know when you need it.
Beside, the AWD is something you feel it every day when you drive.
The more expensive Audi (Quottro),BMW(Idrive) and Mercs(4matic) all come with AWD, No?

I’m very happy with the car. Recent purchase and glad I decided on it. The cornering took some getting used to as it was so precise initially. Oversteer maybe due to AWD. But after a couple of weeks, I have grown into its character so much that I feel something missing when driving my other 2WD car.

passsacaglia I like them they seem to work consistently and as you expect so no surprises. Two minor downsides. The blind spot monitoring only flashes but doesn’t chime if there is a car there (it’s possible I haven’t figured out how to turn that noise on) and if your windshield is dirty or suuuupper rainy the eye sight system can’t work. But that’s rarely an issue. The reverse automatic braking works great and so does the lane centering and adaptive cruise control. I had a Hyundai Tucson for a few months and the lane centering was borderline dangerous and intrusive. This is a bit more passive.

I purchased a new Outback in 2017, had RAB and many electrical problems from the start. After only a couple of months I had the car in the deanship for repairs, . The dealer only deleted the PC history, did nothing to fix the problem, and does not supply the needed paperwork to prove I was there. This practice is still going on today. The service tech brags, "as long as I work here, no one will ever qualify for Lemon Law protection " Problems got MUCH worse. In for repair 10 + times, towed in 4 times. After contacting Subaru customers support, they said because the dealer refused to supply paperwork for your visits, they refused to refund my money for the Lemon they sold me. I could almost hear Subaru saying " GOT YA SUCKER " Car was traded in, because it would not work, still under warranty, still not fixed because they didn't know how to fix it. Lost well over $14,000 because Subaru does not stand behind their cars, or the customer.

My experience with eyesight is that, you need to have your windshield treated with droplets-repelling substance to ensure eyesight works in heavy rain. It works wonder after i treated my windshield. Never failed me.

Everything you mentioned is true and correct. No arguments there. However, some reasons that I did not purchase any Subaru for that matter(or this particular model) are:-
    1) Low resale value. Equivalent to a normal Korean car. At least in Singapore.
    2) Boxer engine and AWD. Its a pain to service and less reliable in the long run and more expensive(parts and servicing) than a normal SUV.
    3) Though a N.A. engine last much longer with minimal maintenance, they should have stuck to their turbos or give this boy a 2.5 litre engine. This model is way under-powered.
    4) During test drive, I find it light. Like an empty can. Means less durable.
    5) Interior felt cheap. Too much hard plastics and low end. Hyundai Tucson feels more up market.

The biggest let down? No 2.5 or XT 2.0T variant for Malaysia. Such a shame when the chassis and dynamics are so good that they really equip it with a 2.0 for who? For Aunties doing wet market runs? That's what I've been looking at recently. Seriously SMH.

As a coffee drinker, my heart stopped when I saw you threw away that full shot of cappuccino. I no longer want to follow you. I will unsubscribe and not bell you anymore. You have offended me.
On a lighter note, that shot location was in Semenyih right?
And on a pleading note, Subaru, please change the headunit as what you promised earlier this year. Current customers like me, 2018 XV2 owner, can retrofit with the newer, better headunit.
Otherwise, the car is a keeper. A wolf in a cat's body. Very sleeper vibes.

I like Subarus but I just don't really like this 2019 Forester. It looks boring and not gonna lie, the old 2009 Forester looks better. (Also no more XT Turbo models, which is sad.)
Driving dynamics should be typical Subaru, but everything else is not so interesting especially with the Mazda CX5 and Proton X70 in the market, which are probably more interesting and attractive compared to the Forester.

    • @eujinpan
      @eujinpan 4 года назад +2

Germaine Liew im more inclined to agree with you on the looks and like u, im a much bigger fan of the previous model. Just much easier on the eye.
As for for dynamics, this one makes the old one feel like it’s from 10 years ago. If you cant trust me, im not exaggerating, it’s really that good.
When we drove the old and new back to back in Taiwan, the old one was swaying left right all the way through a slalom course.
The new one was completely the opposite. Chassis was so rigid and flat, the car was so composed.
I wish subaru could organise events for the public to try out just how incredible the new Forester is to drive.
It’s not just about sporty driving, with this level of stability, it gives out a very assuring feel to the driver and the other passenger. The car does not react unusually, giving the driver more control.
Sadly, i agree with you. First impression is everything these days and other brands may be ahead of the game in that respect, but as with all the Subarus Ive tested before, they take time to grow on you as in terms of quality of cabin materials, they’re right on point... except the headunit haha.
If only they allocated more money on design and not just the chassis haha
