    I did the same thing last year took out an automatic put a zf5. Now all I have is problems trying to find a good drive shaft and one that won't vibrate everything. I wish I never did the swap I'm going back to the automatic!!!

      Yea dude I hear you. This truck came auto and someone manual swapped it which I prefer but they put in a junk tranny so I swapped in a m5od and that thing can’t handle any weight towing. First gear is garbage for towing anything because it’s such a high ratio and I only have 3.55 gears in here. If I had 4.10 it might be a lot better but I wouldn’t suggest going with an m5od lol

      How do

  • @TheTuneAce
    @TheTuneAce Год назад +1

    wait this was a zf5 to an m5od-r1 swap? not even a swap to the m5od-r2 that normally came on the f150s?

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  Год назад +1

      Yea, long story short my truck came with an automatic from the factory, someone swapped a zf5 in it but when I got it it would grind in every gear and pop out of reverse. The slave cylinder went out at the end of summer so I decided to wait till January to replace it and in the mean time I got a free m5od tranny so I put that in so I could at least shift gears. I’m not sure what one it is. But it’s sucks ass for towing. 1st gear is way to high and just chugs off the line

    So I'm in the process of manual swap. I plan on doing some towing but not often and nothing too bigger than a car hauler. M5od isn't good for that? Which one is better for daily driver use?

    • @T-MillProductions

      I have an m5OD in my truck now and it’s nice for daily driving but it sucks horrible bad for towing heavy loads. I tow 10k plus and the zf5 was way better. If you’re only gonna be towing like 6000 an m5OD will be fine. But if you plan to tow a big camper or something heavy zf5 all the way. I hope this helps

    What is the secret to bleeding the slave?

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  10 месяцев назад +1

      So what I did is pump the pedal with my hand about 500 times and then open the bleeder up and keep doing that until the pedal is firm enough to return on its own and then I pumped it with my foot and repeated the process until the pedal felt good

    Will this m5od with the 351 bell housing bolt up to a small block Ford motor? I'm trying to find a zf to replace the m50d behind my 4.9 gas motor, which I thought was just the small block pattern. Mine is 2wd so unsure about cross member as well.

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  Год назад +1

      Yea the 4.9 and all the small block ford v8s have the same bell housing, finding a small block zf5 is gonna be the challenging part, the guy I sold mine to said they’re impossible to find because not many were mare

    Are the transfer cases interchangeable?

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  2 года назад

      Yes they are. The one that was originally connected to the zf5 is much heavier duty and i reused that on the m5od. The one on the m5od is much smaller and looks a lot lighter duty but the lengths are the same so both driveshafts bolt up the same and the connectors are all the same.

    Would the m50d use the same clutch and components as a zf5?

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  2 года назад +2

      Yes they do. Clutch flywheel slave cylinder clutch master and the hose are all the same. All the driveshafts line up the same. The only differences are the shifters are different so you need the corosponding shifter and boot to work in the truck

    Did you sell the ZF?

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  2 года назад +2

      No I still have it but I am going to list it for sale. I don’t have the time to rebuild it and honestly the m5od is doing great so I don’t see the point on swapping them out

      @@T-MillProductions bummer. Those small block zf5 trannys fetch a steep price and are hard to come by. Running a np435, 331 stroker, 35s with 3.73s, so a granny gear PLUS overdrive would be nice, but 85 mph on freeway isn’t so bad at 3k rpm

    • @T-MillProductions
      @T-MillProductions  2 года назад +1

      Oh no kidding eh? I was gonna rebuild it but I just don’t for see myself doing anything with it realistically so if someone wants it I’ll sell it for a reasonable price. How far away are you from wi?

    You have to be out of your damned mind to swap even a trashed zf5 for that hunk of shit.

      @T-MillProductions  Год назад +3

      Lol I just sold the zf5 for 500 bucks to a guy. I agree m5od’s aren’t the greatest but for what I use my truck for it’s good enough.

      It ain't bad, I have one in my f100 backing about 380tq/440hp, it's fun cause the gear ratios are tighter. I know my situation is different because it's in a lightweight muscle truck not an f250, but I know if those trans were junk mine would be dead after what it's been through lol.

      That’s badass man, what’s all done to your motor? And what motor do you have?

    • @samuelriester1419
      @samuelriester1419 Год назад +1

      It's a 306 roller, stock crank and forged rods, DSS forged flat tops for 10.5:1, AFR 185 Renegade CNC heads, comp xe274hr, comp valvetrain, ported weiand stealth. It's a good little street motor that's tame enough for road trips on 87 from the pump but makes adequate power for some playing around since the trucks pretty light.
