Holy moly, your directing and editing skills are amazing. I've watched the belaying masterclass and now watching this, it all progresses so smoothly, and all the ideas are so well presented. The filming yourself explaining the method to her, and then using that to explain it to the audience aswell is a great idea, and so well executed. Big ups, man!
I'm not a climber. I am an endurance runner though. These past couple videos have been sent to a few other runners because the principles that you are sharing apply the more technical aspects of trail running. The only way to adjust to the fear is testing yourself and taking baby steps towards the goal. You have managed to illustrate this beautifully through what you love!
Amazing comment Buddy! I used to run as well, but didn't had mountains back then, so nothing scary... But I totally agree that principals of overcoming any fear are the same... small doses of exposure with good outcome ;)
Congrats! Very well produced, nice storytelling, and it's really pleasant to listen to you. I hope you make many more videos like this. And of course congrats to Hanna as well - starke Leistung!
Such a good video. I feel like for almost every type of climbing I have a different grade I can do due to fear. I have done a 7a+ boulder problem indoors. I've flashed 6c lead indoors. I can do 6c+ top rope. But outdoors the hardest I've done is 6a+. I overgrip everything, get really pumped, my hands stop working and I worry most about when I can clip and not about the moves.
Let me help you a bit, as a climbing coach. If we have any problems, like fear, bad stepping technique, bad positioning, or beta we all feel pumped. You should climb many easy routes on different rocks to became better in all the aspects above. Many climbers don't know that one should practice falling, as well. Fear is coming always when you do something what you never did before. When you get used to the falling, then it is not such a big deal, just when you do it the first times. Keep building your experiencies outdoor! All the bests!
Thats insane. I almost exclusively do bouldering and my lead grade is 2 levels above my bouldering grade. I think you have some lead theory to catch up, such as resting, chalking up at the right times etc. But yea, on some outdoor routes, I also get scared on some easy shit but thats warranted, some of the distances between quickdraws are ridiculous.
@@alexbarcovsky4319 just an update from a year ago my sport grade is now closer to where it should be 7b projecting a 7b+ but my fear of falling is still quite bad, nothing like as bad as it once was.
I have watched this series of videos few times and always thinking it’s impossible for me to do that. And I just sent my first 7a last week! Before that, I had only red point one 6a and 6b. These videos are really encourage me also give me the technical and specific tips. Thank you very much for making these videos.

Great improvement! You are a magician! And Hannah, I could not stop to watch You fighting with this route! Great job! I'm inspired, I will be next on 7a!
Your comment about falling on easy routes at "old school" crags is spot on haha. Teaching a beginner to lead at my local crag is a sketchy experience at best. The easiest bolted routes all have 15+ feet to the first bolt, and then ground fall potential once you are close to the 2nd. 30+ foot ground falls have happened, and no one wants to be the one to add another bolt to the route. Luckily with the rock formations it seems like every route is juggy to the top where there is typically a difficult roof or bulge.
I love Chulilla. Had the best time of my life climbing there. So many wonderful sectors and routes. Great feel. Magical place. I will return hopefully one day 🙏🏼
The hardest aspect of mental and technical training for climbers is deliberate practice against reactive thinking. A few constant examples from lessons include forcing bobbled clips, climbing out of foot/rope positioning issues, and clipping at first available stance. On easy terrain (in particular in a gym), drop any nonsmooth clip, grab a hold, breath, and then try again. Any time a misstep has the rope threatening to flip, priority is to get the foot out in case of fall rather than simple avoidance of a fall. Find the space you’re likeliest to rechalk or shake out to clip, which might even be below the waist, to minimize unnecessary slack in the system but more reduce exertion for confidence. In the same sense, the wondering if she should fall of she makes the next hold is that reactive thinking. Simply tearing the bandage off does not work because we can often death grip for a few moves to secure a bolt, but then we learn the sequence is brutal and terrifying, rather than just tapping a hold and leaping from the wall to reduce fall anxiety. Great set of videos about this need for deliberate mental training. This does not merely come by experience.

Would love to see videos about the different types of climbing (sport vs bouldering vs whatever else there is) and what the numbers mean. I could probably find this on other channels but really like your presentation style.
Now she only has to learn to stay relaxed during clipping. And also don’t clip 1m above your head on bad holds. It’s actually safer when your harness is almost at the quickdraw because you have to take out less rope.
Damn, the route with the chimney looks awesome. But also the one she redpointed, its just such nice rock. We mostly have Granite here, with some cracks, a lot of slabs, but this looks totally different. Would love to climb that. Also, 40m sport climbing route going almost straight up, with a little overhang? Gorgeous
having climbed in different countries over the last years I noticed that grading can vary quite a bit. I dont mind falling which is definitly a huge factor in climbing harder routes. But as you mentioned some grades are not really representing the hardest move (not every time) but also the endurance&technique of a route. The type of rock and the climbing style also matters a lot. If you are not used to crack, slab, overhang, layback, tufa, crimps, slopers, etc those feel way harder. Traditional climbing areas from the ~70/80/early 90ies are generally graded harder than recently bolted crags. I love climbing on tufa overhangs and climb harder grades than in my home crags with mainly pockets & technical slabs.
awesome video as usual. I've been doing fall practice in the gym recently and im definitely starting to get more comfortable. Im taking a trip to kentucky to climb at the red river gorge soon so ill really be able to test my fears then. Cant wait for the next video!

Wow! Awesome! Rock looks beautiful and her technique, stamina and enthusiasm are great to witness!
Andreas Hofmeyr thank you Andreas 🥰
Your videos are absolutely amazing. Such good insight!
Would love to see videos about the different types of climbing (sport vs bouldering vs whatever else there is) and what the numbers mean. I could probably find this on other channels but really like your presentation style.

You're a good teacher/fear-guide👍
Now she only has to learn to stay relaxed during clipping. And also don’t clip 1m above your head on bad holds. It’s actually safer when your harness is almost at the quickdraw because you have to take out less rope.
Pretty smart comment with regards to rope lenght. I never thought about that and will keep it in mind next time! :)
True, but one has to find good cliping holds higher.
You look like a so great partners climbing !
Thanks for your vidéos its so much quality :)
Damn your latest two vids in this series are really getting me psyched to go climb !
Actually it even dos the same to me :DDD
TopperH yaaaaaas agree 😂😅
