My screen saver for years has been a pic we took while camping in those ruins. Sunset view with smoke whisping from the front of the big room! Happy Hiking!
Glad I saw this video just in time to avoid Frog Tanks 😬🤣👍 I heard once a Ranger warning about camping near the apple trees, as apparently, bears occasionally come to eat them. I wasn’t aware there are bears in the Superstitions 😮🤔
I believe it. It feels a little surreal to have this forested area in the Superstition Wilderness. Good thing we camped 2 miles away on a random hill 😂 The only critters we had to deal with were the smaller kind with glowing eyes that kept April awake all night. Every now and then, we'd hear her throw a rock or try to shoo it away. She said she was trying to keep us safe LOL
The ruins and the ranch are both worthy destinations - if I did it again, I'd definitely just go to the ruins and then return to the Reavis Ranch Trail to continue on instead of making a loop. It's a special place and definitely worth a trip!
@@walkingwithawookie1097 LOL perfect - there were a lot of shenanigans on our last adventure to Apache Trail Canyon, so we'll see how that goes 🤣 hopefully I can salvage some helpful information out of the footage.
Did this hike in early October the same route, you guys are champions for trying to do Rogers canyon and frogtanks in one day! We camped at the fork of Rogers canyon and fish Creek and went to Reavis ranch on day two. I think frog tanks is one of the prettiest routes out there but the trail is bad. Forest service is always looking for volunteers to clean it up. We camped by the orchard and had a 300 lbs unwelcome visitor in the night 😮🐻 but were ok, just make sure the food is up high.
The mileage wasn’t bad, but that trail was a disaster! We actually came dangerously close to running out of water because of not making it to the ranch. Luckily, another backpacker was driving out as we were driving in and gave us a hot tip to bring more water than we thought we needed. He gave us extra bottles, and we carried it all, thankfully. That scene where we are filtering water at Reavis Creek - you don’t even know how happy we were to be there.
They are so big and flavorful- we were only sad we didn’t bring supplies to make apple cobbler or something! It’s a must do hike. I hear there are blossoms in April ❤️
We were there maybe 3 weeks ago. The yellow apples were the most surprisingly delicious. We camped by the ranch and checked out circlestone in the evening. Rogers canyon the next morning. It was fantastic. Frog tanks looked brutal! I wore shorts and got my shins ripped up. Not a wise choice.
That’s close to the time we were there too! Couldn’t believe how beautiful and delicious the apples were. Would like to check out circlestone one day, but we obviously did not have time this trip. Spent too much time just trying to survive frog tanks. There was a lost toenail and a trip to urgent care afterward that we didn’t show. Won’t ever do the loop again, that’s for sure.
That sounds like a trip to remember. We did rogers canyon ruins as a side trip before going back to TH the next morning. I kept looking for them to the left for some reason and we ended up in angel basin without seeing them. Luckily another family was up there making noise as we were heading back up showing us where they were.
@@shawnnimmer8170 Oh wow, yeah, if you had been looking on the right, you couldn't have missed them. I hope you turned around at Angel Basin! It gets significantly worse after that.
If you are a strong hiker, you could do it in a long day. It’s about 14 miles round trip. The trail is a little overgrown with a few trees down in the area that burned, but nothing too bad. Start early!
Nice video! Especially like how you both enjoyed eating the apples. By the way, some inconsiderate(being nice) idiots destroyed the ranch (burned the Reavis Ranch house) back in the 90's. Keep up your adventures...maybe consider being long-length vloggers!
You might say it is stupid for people to write their names on these walls and on the ruins, but in 100 years from now those names written on the walls will be a reminder of a distant past
I know what you’re saying because I have been on the Colossal Cave wild cave tour, and there is trash in there that is not allowed to be removed because it has been there so long. But I also hope you’re kidding. Modern people have so many other ways of documenting life, so hopefully it will be said of us that we cared for, preserved, and passed on our rich natural and cultural history to future generations.

When I was there in the late 80's the roof was still intact on that ruin. We were also tracked by a mother and cub mountain lion!
I saw some pictures from the 90s that showed walls that are no longer there. Very sad.
I was already a subscriber😂👍
Great hike today.
This video is awesome. Overcoming the obstacles to make that adventure happen🙏
Haha awesome! Hope we weren’t too ridiculously annoying. So great hiking with you today.
😂Just the right amount of annoying😂👍

Should I assume your favorite song is “I can’t drive 55” ? 🤔🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂 it is now!
Sad to see the deterioration of the ruin.
Another great video but I'm a little confused about the lady taking a leak standing up with pants on, I guess that was a joke.
We are big fans of a little device called a pStyle that lets us stand and pee like a man. Geez, the guys have it so easy.
@@wildpathsaz That makes sense!
Do you think a day hike is doable to/from the ranch? Me and my friend are looking to do it next Friday.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I knew the ranch house burned, but I wasn't aware of it being arson. That's disappointing.
