    I hope that blind dog found its home. I always thought slot rock referred to the slot on the right portion of the formation at 3:05 as opposed to the one you went through more left center. That’s what I go through when I have hiked here. Some dumb grafiti in there

    • @wildpathsaz
      @wildpathsaz 19 дней назад

      Well, there are a lot of slot-like formations in the area and none have official names, so I guess it can be whatever you want it to be! 🤷‍♀️ We once climbed part way up the formations across the trail from the hand and found a deep chasm that we couldn’t see the bottom of. I vowed to bring a rope with me one day and explore it - I did go back and it was a very cool rappel. There were bolts, so we obviously were not the first. We popped out the bottom by the hand.

Everything that happens is unscripted; however, we wouldn’t have included the clip if there was actual indecency. That being said, we also specifically tell RUclips this video is not intended for children, so you have to use your own discretion. Some may feel we need to “grow up,” but we have a lot of fun out there, and we aim to both show nature and entertain. Our style won’t be for everyone (you aren’t the first), but there are plenty of other channels that just show nature, and I hope you find what you’re looking for with those. It's far easier to have a stick with a forked end and be ready to pin it either by the head or body if it tries to attack. Be the predator not the prey, you have a massively intelligent brain, slow down and don't allow panic to override your coherent decision making. If you don't feel one stick is enough, have two ready, face your fear because ultimately facing them makes you better at dealing with them until they change from being a fear to a healthy respect for its abilities. This is what all service people (fire fighters, police, military) do. Clearly it's terrifying to run into a burning building, but with the right equipment, exposure and reassurance that you can overcome the fear, that's exactly what happens, you grow and overcome, ultimately making you a stronger person. Running around the snake trying to clamber over rocks in a panicked state could have very easily resulted in a slip, bang on the head and even hyperextension or broken ankle. That's how fear can overcome your rational decision making. I can't say this enough, step back, slow down, think about how to extend your arms reach and maintain control over the subject. Those jelly legs full of adrenaline almost let you down, falling into or around the snake head first wouldn't have been a good thing. Kudos to you both though, you got past and neither yourself or the animal was hurt. Great video.

    • @wildpathsaz
      @wildpathsaz 2 месяца назад

      Thanks for the advice - I'm not sure I would be confident I could use a stick to defend against a strike because they happen so fast. I also don't think running past would have really been effective either. Luckily, this guy was stretched out long on some bushes by the time we passed him, so he wasn't in the best striking position. We definitely would have chosen to just avoid him completely if we could, but the nature of the trail made that impossible. We're all safe, and now we have a memory, so that's good.

      This was on Barnhardt Trail, which made it super tricky to get around him. At one point, he came out and headed straight for me. I left poor Fawn in the bushes alone. It was pretty scary! Check out our new long format video for the whole story 🤣😨

      @@wildpathsaz Did you make it to the cabin? I haven’t done that trail in eons, but the boys want to do it. Maybe in the fall. We ran into a diamondback while looking for a cave a few miles from the Lava Tube. Well over 4 foot and fat. Gonna go watch your video, Happy Hiking!

      @@rvtech101 we did not make it to the cabin. I'm assuming you're referring to Club Cabin? Not this trip, but my uncle is an old timer, and he keeps bringing it up as a place we should visit. If you go, let me know how it is!

      @@wildpathsaz Lol, apparently I’m old because I’ve been there quite a few times in the 80s and 90s. There’s a spring in the area as well. I’ve talked about the area enough the boys want to check it out, so maybe in the fall when it cools off. We just did the Lava Tube near Flagg, along with about a hundred other people! Been going there since the 70s and I have never seen it so crowded! Still an amazing place.

      We tried to get some video of it, but it was mostly obscured by the bushes next to the trail. Maybe next time! (Hopefully there won't be a next time, but we all know there will be)

    Ladies, rattlers can jump half their body length. At times, they also travel in pairs. There may have been a female in those bushes. Thank you again for an awesome adventure. Be well, be safe... happy many continued adventures. My daughter loves your channel. LOVES!

      I know, that’s what made it so scary! Our options were very limited because the mountain is steep and bushy both to the left and right, so you can’t really hike around. We waited a good 15 minutes but he didn’t look like he was going anywhere, and it looked like his hole might’ve been right on the trail. Luckily he did go into the bushes and we could see him lying straight, parallel to the trail. We had maybe 4 feet of clearance when we ran past.
