Love the way you decode the tough singing challenges...very subtle graphics and not much of visual clutter which keep the focus on the content...and absolutely perfect timing to end the video...loved it❤
Yes, i’m vocal coach, and I study too much here in RUclips from famous and not famous coaches.. and he is THE BEST, he goes straight to the point 🫰🏼✨ Such a fan right now ❤
Didn't realize this was a new channel because of the quality of the videos and overall presentation of the channel. The color scheme and thumbnails look good, and the best advice I've heard so far
that H thing is an absolute game changer when you started playing those gospel riffs I could hear every singleH consonant between each note. Seems like the real secret is singing the note in straight tone then taking your vocal stop it and cutting it up with the individual H consonants. Thanks so much for that nugget. I’m sure that the RIFF” gatekeepers” didn’t want that secret to get out lol
Hey, Bob, amazing videos! Your quality of videos is insanely good! I wanted to ask if you'd ever consider analyzing various techniques/vocals, do the breakdowns and give people some roadmaps on how they can achieve similar effects/emotions/sounds? If so, I'd Love love love to hear "twenty one pilots - the line" song breakdown as it is super, super vulnerable, and the way it is sung is really beautiful, especially the live version
Most long riffs consist of multiple small "parts/blocks". Some fast notes, a little pause, more fast notes. Often when the riff has a large jump, or changes direction going downwards to upwards or vice versa. Does that answer your question?
Great question. 1. Pick a method and study/follow it (for a while). Like my ABC Voice Model. Or EVT, CVT, SLS, etc. Some system that will help you know what's possible with a voice and help you do it. 2. Breath support. Without breath support, no talking/singing. Many vocal problems stem from incorrect or insufficient breath support. (See my breath support video) 3. Deliberate practice: this might be the only thing that masters in any skill (sports, arts, academics, etc) have in common. I think it's the fastest and most rewarding way to learn any skill.
Awesome stuff man! Been looking for something like this. Can you recommend any good resources for practing riffs? E.G. like a good playlist/channel that has a bunch of riffs ?
Haha did you watch Wings of Pegasus? I agree that the studio version of Bridge Over Troubled Water is tuned to bits. So yes, it would not have been possible without Melodyne. But that does not mean Tori Kelly can't riff. Amazing artists get tuned all the time. Often without them knowing themselves. If you look at this video ( ruclips.net/video/qwbk7b4s6K4/видео.html ) of her and Jakob Collier working on the song, there is no Melodyne, she is technically "off pitch" quite often, but it does not matter. Her riffs still sound great. I don't know many other singers who could do what she demonstrates in this video.
Pitch correction can only do so much. I promise Melodyne isn't making her an outstanding vocalist - her range, vocal stamina, agility, tone quality, training, etc. cannot be bought...unfortunately, or I'd ask for the Tori Kelly Special myself hahaha, because $800 is a steal! 😂

Thanks a lot, I try :)
adding H sound 🤯 genius
I was thinking the same thing! Literally solved my sloppy slurs 😂
Haha makes it so much easier :D
Other called it „the grid“. So it's basically a tremolo or bleating vibrato adapted to the pitches to separate them from each other.
@ smart
@@martin.lorenz yep!
You quite literally have the best singing technique videos on RUclips
Thanks! That means a lot :)
i’ve never heard this h technique before, glad i watched this 🙏

Never failed to teach new methods..❤❤❤

Haha yep that h was my big unlock for finally getting my riffs to sound better

Exactly at the moment I needed it. I was thinking this week about how to improve my riffs and I had no idea how to do it. Now I do. Thanks! :)
Haha perfect. We're in sync ;)
Your methods and voice sound impressive yet so freindly.
Thanks, I appreciate it :)
Some ‘follow along with you’ exercise videos would be great!
Thanks, I'll consider it :) You mean specifically for riffs? Or in general?
Great video Bob, I liked using a "H" in between the notes and all the other advice . Thankyou.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video, loved it! For a future one, it’d be super cool if you could talk about when or in what parts of a song riffs and runs work best.
Shortcut: listen to artists you like and pay attention to when they do and don't do it :)
You are good teacher
Thanks 😁
Sir what do you mean by natural pauses: 1) where you need to breathe or 2) Octave/pitch jumps drops or 3) Feeling/mood of internal riff changes ?
Most long riffs consist of multiple small "parts/blocks". Some fast notes, a little pause, more fast notes. Often when the riff has a large jump, or changes direction going downwards to upwards or vice versa. Does that answer your question?
If you were to start singing from scratch, what would you do or learn to become a better singer?
Great question.

Can you please make a vedio on singing in a perfect pitch and adding emotion to it
I'll add them to my list of video ideas ;)
thank you.
You're welcome :)

Oh that's a great idea I don't...yet.
But I did a quick Spotify search for "riffs & runs" and found this playlist with many songs by great riffers:
open.spotify.com/playlist/7M3ArB19f2Ngxhkypt6sk1?si=ecWkON5qQpC-jOwCKODArA&pi=vmpLiKbCQuqIK
can make a video on vibrato please 🙏🏾
Yep, it's on my shortlist! But I don't know when yet!
could you explain Lose Comtrol buy Teddy Swims?🥰
You mean the riffs? Or the whole song?
He should've added a "riff" word count 😂
Missed opportunity 😭
We're mentioning Tori Kelly now? Lol
I tell you how she gets her runs so perfect... it's called "Melodyne"
For $800, you can sound just like her 👍

Yeah I don’t have that falsetto (anymore)
Don't have it anymore?
@ Yes I used to have a very high falsetto but it has diminished significally.
Hmm that's too bad. Puberty? Or something else?
@@bob.smeenk No. I´m almost 50. Probably chronic tension.
@@jesperjee :( It's probably possible to get it back. But must suck to have had it before and then loose...
You can sing.. riffs?? Like its not a guitar only term anymore?..
Guess so 😁
Adding H is done by my best riffer @Peter Collins
