I want to know how to make the "ghost note" reappear. I haven't seen mine since I installed Dorico. I tried this "option/shift" to force the octave, but it's not doing squat. I have a passage where a singer keeps jumping between two fifths, and literally EVERY NOTE IS IN THE WRONG PLACE. This is infuriating- I have to enter a note, then hold down option and the arrows to force it into the correct octave, EVERY TIME. One would think the software would get a clue that almost no tenor can even HIT THAT NOTE. Finale at least seemed to know the standard ranges and would favor putting notes within the range of that instrument or voice. So like if I copy a passage from the string basses and put it into the piccolo part, Finale would automatically transpose it up 3 or 4 octaves, making it MUCH EASIER to handle. And if I entered a note by typing it- (not if I used the keyboard) it thought was too low or high for an instrument, it would put it where it thought it should be. It was kind of annoying sometimes, but in orchestral scores it's VERY handy when you have to copy and paste doubling a lot. And if it's in the wrong octave, you can just select the passage and use the transpose command to fix it in one fell swoop. But I miss the ability to just click on a specific line or space and have the note appear ON THE CORRECT LINE. I wish you would give us the ability to do that. I know this video says you can, but I seem to somehow have turned it off, as it doesn't work anymore. I click on a line or space when the caret is in the spot I want, and instead it selects the rest in that position of the measure and knocks me out of "write mode."
Yeah, this is pretty much the only thing that prevents me from getting Dorico. I enter notes with the mouse, but I need to be able to hear the pitches as I position the note over the staff.
I'm having a really tough time figuring out how to make a slurred note, or a dotted note, such as a dotted quarter note. I'm sure this must be an easy trick! Can anyone clue me in?
I just tried inputting a relatively simple song using the keyboard and mouse as I've done for years with Finale. This thing is way too tedious. I hate it. So I reinstalled Finale 27 on my Mac Mini (M2pro) and will continue to use it until it stops working. In the meantime, I will search for a more user-friendly alternative. I can't imagine why someone would design software like this.
Slur with the slur button in the toolbox or hit letter S. Dotted notes you can add with the dot button in the toolbox, hit the period key on your keyboard, or double press the duration key for your note on your computer keyboard
Shift often adds something. E.g. Shift-K for key signature, Shift-T for Tempo. Alt is often your 'move key' e.g. Alt-arrows to move a selected note or item. Ctrl/Cmd is often 'big'. E.g. combined with Alt it's a big move. Ctrl-Shift are often specific dialogs e.g. Ctrl-Shift-E is Engraving Options; Ctrl-Shift-L is Layout Options. It's intuitive because once you've started to learn a couple of shortcuts you can intuitively work out what the others are, and many many people find it useful and like it. Here are some quick reference cards of shortcuts for you too: blog.dorico.com/2019/06/quick-reference-cards/
Mouse input notes in dorico looks like a fight against musical notes...we are not developers, we are musicians, i will always critique Dorico because it's really the next generation score notation and midi in one tool, can you make the playback more smooth like cubase? Dorico needs to be more smooth, flexible and friendly no? Thanks
Any suggestions med? I agree that this probably isn't the last stage in intuitiveness, but I for one wouldn't know how to make it more so. Seems to me like once you get the hang of it, this'll be a very efficient system in which you can work quite fast
Everything of inputting notes should be taught in the context of voices all the time. Unless one fully understands voices while inputting notes you end up in a total mess when say trying to connect notes wit ties or change beam directions and so on. Afterwards trying to change voices and beam directions will make you tore your hair. I often transcribe - or rather copy - piano sheet music to midi when I need to hear difficult passages and getting the copy look similar to the printed one requires that all voices must be right. I think there should be buttons to select the voice for the next note, the current concept is definitively not very intuitive for a beginner. Starts & ends voices don't seem to work always for removing rests from voices.
Is there a printable list for the keyboard shortcuts? I can't remember my own name half the time.

can you use the number pad instead of the numbers on the top of the computer keyboard to choose note durations?
Yes you can
when i input a note i do not get any sound , how do i get the notes to play sound as i write in the score

Hi Anthony, How to reveal the Lower zone to show the Keyboard ????? Impossible to finds the Keyboard....
Ctrl + 8 (windows) / cmd + 8 (mac) - this hides and shows the lower zone
@@christian_7500 In the middle of the status bar is a roof like arrow. Click and the zone opens. On the top of it click on the piano icon.

I'm not sure what you mean about a fight or how you want it to be 'more smooth'. Maybe get in touch via FB or the Dorico.com/forum with more details?

You were going too fast. I don't know how you inserted a eighth note with dotted
