Hello Warren. You are the only guy other than me that I’ve seen remove the front wheels. I love how you think glad too see another old school guy wrenching the smart way. Great to see you work.
If you haven't checked out DetroitGarage yet on RUclips I recommend it. He put a sequential twin turbo 4-53 in his '09 F350. Runs almost exclusively on waste vegetable oil. He does a great job explaining and showing his wvo filtering process also. Very nice fabrication to fit that engine in the truck. I gotta give it to him, he made a nice swap out of that nasty ole 2-stroke and the truck isn't too loud! Very tasteful, good power. Then he put a 2 cylinder 2 stroke Detroit in his fork lift 😂 I told him when he finishes the forklift I don't know if you'll have the strongest forklift around, but you'll certainly have the loudest. 🤣
Thank you for the video Warren 👍don't let any stupid bastard get to you in the comments you've got over 100k friends and the other guy has only a pecker for his only friend.
My old boss used to say people around here don’t love the old Detroit’s because they have enough power to pull all the hills, but rather they are the only truck that can handle the 3800rpm going down the back side. Lol
Those old Detroits were Something else. My Dad had an old Brockway with the old 318 Detroit. He used to tell me Too Slam My Hand in the Door before I got in and Drove it.😂😂😂 That way You drove it Pissed off all day...That's basically how you had too drive those old Trucks with those Engines...LMAO...LOL..😂😂😂.. I never had anything Good to say about them. But when they came out with that 60 Series Saved Detroit Asses for Sure...Those old 318 are one of many reasons why I'm hard of hearing today ..LOL .HAHA ..Great Video Warren as always ..
Hey Warren enjoyed the video as always, couple tips/heads up for you 1. The injector supply lines from the pump to the rail are NOT reusable just in case you don’t know & I’ve heard a few stories where they broke & trucks burned down & saw one truck that did burn down from it. 2. The injector pass thru seal is replaceable (my local stealership says the same thing yours does, luckily I’ve got a good parts place besides them). The part number is DDE A0209975345 & 3. You don’t have to pull the EGR cooler, manifold, etc to do a cam frame reseal unless he had other leaks he requested to be fixed & I missed that. You can put the engine in time & pull the cam frame with the cams & rockers in it too btw. Take the two p-clamps loose from the passengers side of the cam frame loose (they hold the coolant lines from the coolant collector to the cam frame & the coolant collector is that big manifold the EGR cooler bolts to), take the bolt out of the air compressor intake pipe that comes up the back (T45 or 13mm usually), the fuel rail pressure sensor just push the clip in and it should unplug, cam position sensor you pop the little gray clip loose & it comes partially out & then push it in to release it, take the fuel lines off & injector harness loose & that’s everything on the outside of the cam frame that I can think of. Then inside pull the injector harnesses out of the way, take all of the 13mm 12-pt bolts loose & in the very back behind the cam gear there’s 2 10mm 12-pt bolts to remove as well. Then she’ll lift right up. Not trying to tell you what to do or anything like that, I just know I sure appreciate it when someone saves me from extra headache and/or saves me time from taking something apart I don’t need to. Have a blessed one Warren & keep up the videos man!
@@ianh9772 rod bolts aren’t reusable either & my old dealership used to make us replace the main bolts as well. One of those money rackets for the stealership I guess. The line kit is about $125, which sucks but better than a crispy truck.

i started out with a 75 kw with a 318, loud as hell, 15 mph up cabbage hill. Still fun to drive. I had a late 80's silver 8v, that one had power, but still super loud. Had 3406 and 3408, 350 and 400 big cams, 315 and 444. 60 and 50 series, m11 n14, the two strokes were still not even close in the fun as hell to drive, fast revving and fast shifting. Had a 12v from a road grader in a 79 mack, pulled cabbage really good. Maybe just nostalgia. Drove some roached out dirt boxes and even have fond memories of those.
We had 318 Detroit's in most of our fire engines and ladder trucks back in the 70's with 5 speed transmissions that worked great for the department. They would always start go out the door with pedal to the metal with no warm up time. Most of the cabs and body's would rust out before any engine issues and were sent out for new cabs to be placed on the old chassis. Most were retired after about 20 years of service with between 150,000 and 200,000 hard driving and pumping mileage. They were fine until the county started putting automatics behind them. I guess everyone likes there own type of motors, and yes they were loud you could always here the next unit coming down the road.
I been watching you for 4 or 5 yrs now. I don't blame you one bit for being self employed. I had my own landscape company for 25 yrs. I got a problem with authority also. I never put my crew through that crap. Keep on keeping on.

They need to learn to pay attention to details the way you do. You’d be a great role model and teacher. I hope it works out for ya. Kudos to ya.
I can say, that is the most disassembly I've ever seen to do a cam housing reseal. I've done several epa 10, GHG 14, 17, and Gen 5 cam housing reseals. You do not have to pull the exhaust side of the engine apart. You only need to remove the connectors to the cam housing, the injector fuel lines, the injection pump to rail supply lines, plv return banjo bolt or fitting, the p-clips on the back and exhaust side of the cam housing, the valve cover, injector harnesses, and the cam housing can be lifted up with a hoist. Or you could remove the rocker shafts and cams and pick the cam housing off by hand, you do have to do it that way in a DD13 in an M2 or SD chassis. I've never seen tge exhaust side need removed to just do a cam housing reseal personally, our shop also only charges 6 or 7 hours to do one in a Cascadia. Not sure what the warranty time is on one. Also most epa 07, epa 10, and early GHG 14 DD15 engines used the APT and 3 fuel filter fuel system. All DD16 engines use an APT.

Another Great Video, Warren. If the company can make you more money without losing your rights, I would think it would be worth doing. Thanks a bunch for the videos.

Tons of cam frame leaks, dried and shrunken pickup tube o rings, oil filter module gaskets, engine harnesses, #3 liner seals and all the after treatment shit. I only did a couple of those dd15 cam frames, but on the 13's we were having rocker shafts break if the bolts weren't replaced during the reseal. Even the trucks that were resealed under warranty at Detroit were breaking shafts. They never broke when we went with new bolts, just something to keep in mind. I remember the bolts were almost affordable even.

When it comes to electrical connectors and seals very few manufacturers make their own electrical connectors. If you can figure out what type of connector is being used you can usually go to the manufacturer to get seals. There isn't that many connector manufacturers so it shouldn't be hard to identify the connector. The injector connectors in the head of the 5.9 common rail Cummins are made by te connectivity and they are only a few dollars each. When I have leaky ones I just purchase new connectors and pin the existing harness into them.

Not that it matters to anyone else of course, but I really don't see the intrigue with the 2 strokes that others do ...for some reason...never have,.. but anyway.. I've got a hunch that the new Detroit's are a rebadged Mercedes long block with some americanized external components... someone told me it was contrary to that which doesn't make too much sense.. Hello everyone, I have a question. My husband and I own a mechanic shop we specialize in Cummins and CAT we decided to explore the Detroit engines. So the engine had a cam housing leak. Everything was changed the way it needed to be to specs. The moment we needed to screw on the camshaft housing caps the threads went bad. we decided to repair the thread with a sert kit. Unfortunately the tool broke inside one of the holes and now we cant take it out. My Question is; can we use the old camshaft housing cap with the new ones or do I have to buy all the caps all over again ?
Just make a patreon Warren and you'll be happy! No censorship and can speak you mind about anything you want! Oh Peg from zip ties and bias plies is happy with it!
You are a hard ass, but you’re our hard ass. In majority we love your rants. You may not know that most of us would jump at a chance to be self employed and speak our minds clearly without the corporate free speech filters. Be well.
Don't know what would be the best Warren but I know you're not alone I've heard alot of people on here complain about you tube cutting there revenue back
The older Detroit's the old saying was put your hand in the door and slam the door on it and drive it like you're mad at it that's the only way they ran was wide-open as hard as you could run
Having the patience for being the camera guy and the mechanic and narrator is truly amazing.

Warren, do you have any use for a vintage Snap On clutch alignment tool kit? I inherited one from my grandpa and I will never use it.
Guess thats why they used to say the best way to drive the old two strokes is slam your fingers in the door first! Haha! Todd Konoske the retired trucker.
Good job man
Just make a patreon Warren and you'll be happy!
Be well.

Warren, could you convert your truck to an 8.3 Cummins? Not sure if you still have the F550 to use during the conversion, but that would be very cool.

The older Detroit's the old saying was put your hand in the door and slam the door on it and drive it like you're mad at it that's the only way they ran was wide-open as hard as you could run
I love hearing your stories. Lol
