I probably don't have to mention that this method will NOT work on a modern tactical folder! Thanks for your support and kind words!
You did make it clear brother 👍
So helpful now I can stop obsessing, many thanks.
Thank you, @JohnnyJuke for this! It worked with my 2 case sodbusters. Got them uncentered, but because of your video, both are centered now.
Nice shop project. Thanks, for the tutorial.
You bet
Looks like earned a Dooie button 👍 .
Thanks. Just got a new sodbuster knife. Your video was perfect.
You are a lifesaver Sir, thank you for passing on the knowledge.
I love watching these videos. To answer the question about fit and finish on modern knives. Especially USA made knives like Case and Camillus. Skilled labor like this is expensive. Case Cutlery, Gerber, and several other major manufacturers quality tanked in the 1980s. And the skilled laborer was replaced by a machine. I can't blame the workers. If the blade was rubbing against the liner on a folding knife like this it would be unacceptable to me. I didn’t even think to look and see if blades were centered until I read it on the internet. I truly appreciate how some individuals/ companies can produce flawless, multi-blade pocketknives. That takes patience, skill, good eyesight and a steady hand. Bravo for taking on such a job. Amazing.
P.S. this works on a single blade. The marriage of the tools and angles on multi-layer, multi-blade knives is amazing to me.
This is excellent. I have a case copperlock which is such a beautiful little knife, but the centering bothered me. I actually managed to get it centre without a hammer. Laid it out like you did and applied some strong pressure with my thumb a couple of times and it came nice and centred. So happy with it. Thanks mate.
I think this just changed my life 🤣
Hell yeah, Texas toothpick had knife rub for a long time. Nice giraffe bone finally fixed.
Thank you so much. I have many victorinox knifes and 70 % of them habe/had decentered blades. Every time i send them to victorinox back to center me the blades but they said to me thats a thing of tolerance. I was very angry specially about the ranger grip models. They cost a lot of money and quasi all of them have no centered tools. So i started to order 6 or 7 times the same knife until i can get one with a centered blade the conclusion was i could get one but then the spring was weak 😅 what the hell i thought. Now your video gives me hope
This is amazing, I just did it on my case sodbuster that was so horribly off center the blade was pressing against the side of the blade well. This method definitely works! It is now perfectly centered with zero blade wobble.
Hey Johnny! Just wanted to thank you for this video. I have a beautiful Boker barlow that was slightly off center and was driving me nuts as that truly was the only flaw on the knife. I followed the steps you prescribed and voilà…perfectly centered and still rock solid! Thanks for giving back to the hobby!
I was about to send my Case Copperhead back for this to be done. Now I don't have to wait 2 months to get it back. Thanks for this video!!! Also, nice Marathon! You have a good taste in watches. One of the best I own!
Thank you. Just receiver a Sod Buster Jr and the blade was literally rubbing the liner. Your technique worked perfectly.
Thank You Johnny Juke!!
This method works well. I used a plain jane 16oz carpenters hammer and an old work T-shirt folded over a few times. Piece of cake!! 🎸
Thanks, very good job explaining. I have a wharncliff Brother cow bone that I need to center
It was extremely helpful ...NICE JOB...Thank You
I am using a small mallet to center the Traditional slipjoint spay blade but it's taking forever to center it ...
Actually it work...However I didn't have to use Any tools ...In regards to Centering the blades .. I guess that's why I only Collect Trappers .. No Mallet and no Soft Deadblows....
Oh my, so simple, yet effective. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, this is probably one of the most useful things I’ve learned about knives. My 1954 RBS British Army Burma Pattern knife blade used to actually catch on the right side, blunting the very end. Now, it is perfect!😁. Even better, one of my most favourite knives, my Carl Schlieper sodbuster knife also now has perfect centring , you have now idea how it used to bug me.😂🤣👍
I built a hammer just exactly like that in shop class in middle school too!
It worked...actually used my hands to Center Blades...No Tools required...Thank You ..
Looks fairly simple, I might be a bit too heavy handed and impatient for this method though. Where's my sledgehammer will see what happens 😂
I have done this with all my off center knives since watching this. Some within minutes of opening the package on a new one. Great stuff. Thanks.
Great demonstration, Johnny. I'm a firm believer in fixing things myself as long as I've got the right knowledge. And this was good knowledge!
Wow! That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing this. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this. I’ve been restoring traditionals for about 5 years and you just uppped my game lol
It's was Very Much useful .. Thank You so much Johnny...I believe your on RUclips alot...Now this was a $116.00 Case knive ..year 1995 autumn Bone Trapper ...still in the Box..New
I’ve just made a video for the Rough Rider Half Hawk which has both blades hitting the right side. Slickslicers told me to check your channel out for your tip about trueing up the blades. Great tip brother I will give it a go 👍.
This is awesome and so helpful!! I recently started collecting slip joints, and although some say it doesn't matter, I like the blades to be centered. And unfortunately, some of the knives I receive in the mail do not have centered blades. Trying to bend the blade into center position has resulted in two ruined knives, but your method absolutely works. I just received a Rough Ryder knife in the mail, and sure enough, one of the two blades wasn't centered. Now it is. Thank you!!
Awesome Johnny! Was looking forward to seeing this video. Great knowledge for us collectors!
Off centered knives is something I always thought I just had to accept. Thanks a lot.
Good video, but next time use a copper or lead step-up block under the blade...to have a good resist...two ore three blows will do...Ohhh, and don't do that on expensive ( 60+ Rockwell) blades...they will brake on you like glass!!😅
Great tip! Thank you very very much for sharing it with us!
Well that is easier than I thought it was going to be, I need to do this on a few...yes I heard the warning dont worry lol. Great easy tips Johnny! Thank you for sharing this, I remember you discussing it with me a long time ago. Hope you are well dude and having a good week so far
Nice video. Thank you for sharing it. You have my support. 😊
Thanks Johnny!! I just centered 2 blades in 5 minutes! lol
I have a large collection of traditionals & probably 60% need a little tweak here & there. I'll link your video to my next video & give you a shout-out..I just Subbed!
Thanks Again Brother!!! Awesome technique.
Glad it worked out for you.

I figured I would give you a shout-out - Thanks Buddy!
Amazing! Thanks
Thanks Johnny! 👍👍
I need a rubber mallet ... thabks for the vid
I have a Case full size Trapper with a similar spay blade. I’m going to try this.... very carefully.
Thanks to you, I no longer have a Case full size trapper with a similar spay blade... instead I have a Case full size trapper with two perfectly aligned blades. Thank you, you’re a star! ⭐️ 👍
I might have to try this on my new boker Barlow. The small blade is way off center and actually looks bent. I hope it works without hurting the knife. Lol
Please read the comments. There has been great success with this method.
Great video, thanks. I have a question. I have a custom slip joint with wood bolsters and ivory scales. I heard your warning about not trying this method on knives with natural materials as there is a risk of them cracking/breaking. Any other recommendation on centering the blade on slipjoints with those type of scales? Thanks.
Love your knife as is. 😁
Don't do it!!!!!!!
Nice and helpfull video. Tank you !!! But what exactly happens in the knife while doing your method ?
are you bending the blade, the liners or is it a real centering by changing the tension between the liners ?
Not really sure to honest.
I have done it today. It worked very well, but now i have got some blade play on my victorinox. Can i fix it when i hit on the revits under the scales ?
Yes but go easy. Wrap it up as to not damage the finishes. Good luck.
but is this actually centering the blade or just bending the blade? Yes, the effect is the same, but the mechanism of action isn't technically the same.
It is centering the blade. This method is used by Mercator and others I would imagine.
Have you tried heating the blade slightly with a heat gun. NOT HOT ENOUGH TO RUIN THE TEMPER. Just hot to the touch.
No
Trying this on my Case Copperhead and doesn’t seem to want to work. Will this method work on Chrome Vanadium?
It works on CV. Be careful as the lock may have something to do with your issue.
@@JohnnyJuke I got it! I was first doing it on my plywood work table. Too much flex. Did it on the hard ground and it fixed the problem right away!
Will this help with blade play as well?
Negative
@@JohnnyJuke OK thanks man😅
For that - strike the pivot pin.
Im a fan of the channel and you've got some nice traditionals. If you ever wanna do any trading feel free to send me an email
This is stupid behavior. There will be offset, which means there is a problem with the shaft or spacer, not the blade itself.
