Hello Pat! I'm a long time viewer and subscriber but this is the first time leaving a comment...I've been a professional Artist since the 70s and have always been passionate about creating abstract figures! I originally started working in Acrylics for many years but have fallen in love with Watercolours the past few years...I just want to tell you just how much you have inspired me and my work! Your intuitive abstract work is absolutely wonderful!! And you are such a fantastic teacher! I find so much joy in watching your videos...unfortunately I am also disabled and have a difficult time with mobility and leaving the house during the Summer heat ...So Art has become my solace and therapy in so many ways! Having yourself and a group of other Artist to follow each week online has been so helpful! So thank you Pat for all that you do! You have helped me and so many others I'm certain in more ways than you realize! God bless...Rus from Bucks County Pennsylvania ❤️🖌🎨🤓😢
Hello Rus, Thanks for your kind words. It is uplifting and encouraging to hear how my videos are helping you. It is my mission to inspire others so thank you for sharing!
I absolutely love your work! I just found you, and I’m so glad I did. I’ve been teaching myself watercolor. I started in acrylic, and never really got comfortable in it. I think the watercolor has helped with that. Im one of those artists that always thought that I was a failure if it didn’t look “real”. Your style gives me a new energy that I’m hoping to finally find a style.. when I started with watercolor, I was always finding things in my work, like dogs, bugs, trees, etc. I am really looking forward to trying your style. Can you help me in creating the flashes of color, as in the paint that you are carving the figures by making negative spaces? Im working in watercolor, so saving bits and pieces of color would be difficult to create. Would it be a matter of placing patches of color with texture, etc. I don’t want it to look like I’m planning something.. I don’t know if that makes any sense😊 sorry for the novella!
Hi Rus.. just reading your post as a fellow artist (not professional by any means) and I'm wondering if you have MS (like myself) as you mentioned how the heat affects you. I think you're amazing to do your work from a wheelchair. I have learnt to paint with my left hand as my dominant right side has become weak. I hope you are well as can be. XxRochelle
hello Pat I am an81 year old who only found art some3 years ago I am in Australia so you can imagine how jealous I am of all those people who are able to go to your workshops I am delighted with your videos Can't say I am going to be a very good artist but my goodness I am going to try I find your videos very easy to follow Sometimes I argue with you because I think you are changing some wonderful art but in the end I agree that you were right Thank you
Seeing your process made me understand that it’s okay to keep working till you make it how you want. I have a tendency to set it aside and it’s just not finished. Thanks.
Sometimes setting it aside for a while can be helpful to see that it could be improved. It is also easy to go past the finish line so I tend to let things simmer at the end and hang it in a viewing area.
I belong to a painting group. I saw my fella classmates throwing away the leftover paints into bin at the end of the lesson. As for me I use the leftover to prime a new canvas. You taught me an interesting way to make good use of leftovers. Thank you!
Hello Pat, my name is Chris and I am from Australia. This is my first time watching you video and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you so much for sharing your talent. Cheers Chris
Hi! I just found you! Thank you for sharing your gift! I never do figures but! I am a mixed media/ collage artist and I just might try to create some figures! Thanks again for the inspiration!!!
I’m 85 and only painting for three or four years. I’ve tried severe methods and am now trying to learn abstract. Your method has me intrigued and I hope I can follow you.
I love your process painting. I kept changing colors on my work and somehow thought that wasn’t a good way to paint. Now I see it’s a great way to paint! Thank You!
I start by cleaning my brush out or easing up almost empty tubes of paint. This video will give you an idea. ruclips.net/video/3wEGRFafuWI/видео.htmlsi=60Qjw4zm786Is5yl
Hi Patt. I'm a self taught artist. It was the COVID lockdown that got me sketching and painting as I was literally locked in for 3 months! I didn't have any confidence as I could barely draw a straight line. However, I learnt that perseverance pays :)) I chanced upon your tutorial and I can't tell you how my mindset has changed by just watching this tutorial. Thank you. You are inspirational. Thank you from India.
I just found you today on RUclips. I’m so happy I did. I would love to try intuitive figure painting. I will watch more of your videos first. Thank you for sharing your art and your explanations!
Just found you and I love love love this approach. It really loosened me up when I changed direction and created this way. It's such an experience watching it evolve and letting go of so much control. I feel like each piece is a dance. I really like your style. I am inspired by Robert Burridge for the same reasons. Lights my passion right up. That teal is gorgeous. Their cobalt teal is one of my favourites, the other one I love as much is quinacridone nickel azo gold. So sad its discontinued.
Thanks so much. I actually use the teal rather than Cobalt Teal as it is much more cost effective and FYO Golden has a replacement called Azo Gold. There are also formulas to make your own similar colour to Nickel Azo Gold.
@@pattscrivenerartistI agree and use those same colours for same reason. The ones I mentioned are still favourites, but definitely pricey. I don't use them as much when I am working in layers because a lot will just get covered up in my process. I am enjoying your videos. Thank you for sharing.
I enjoyed your process and changes. Goes to show you nothing is written in stone. It's okay to make changes until you can tell the story you want to tell.
Hello I do believe this is the first video of your that I’ve watched. Absolutely love the idea and your finished pain. Your instruction is wonderful and inspiring. I have a sheet of watercolor that I used for testing colors and resting stencils on. I was going to just cut it up for collage or maybe die cuts. But now I think I’ll try your process. Thank you for sharing your talent with us
I LOVE it! Just what I was looking for in inspiration. I tend to stay “real “and really want to develop my intuitive side. And the color, wow, I love it when artist use lots of bold colors.

Hi, I am learning from you about "process painting" I did not know there was such a thing. I began teaching myself watercolours in 2021. I started out in live as a child oil painter, at age of 12 I won The best child Oil Painter, that my teacher had entered my work, did not tell me. One prize was a full course at the Chicago Art Museum, which my father enabled, taking me to Chicago. All to say I love watercolors, wanting to achieve a understanding of the rivers-of colors. I from beginning would wait, correct what did not work, erasing, changing, and realized classic painters would not change things, completely a work start to finish. Glad to find you doing what intuitively I developed. I will find your courses, I need-some guidance. thanks

Amazing how I found your vid today after working on three paintings in a similar way.. I love people in highly textured collages backgrounds… I really loved this one of yours at about the time you were blocking in … without painting every part of the background.. I loved watching this and hearing you describe your thinking within the process. How long did this painting take and did you let some of these areas of paint dry completely within that time? It’s hard to tell from a compressed video.
I have an issue with my acrylic paint drying on the palette and not applying as buttery as your does in this demonstration. What is your secret to accomplishing this buttery consistency.
BTW, I love this painting. I just found your videos and I’m thinking you are one of my fav artist! I wish I had your talent! 😍
I did this painting as a workshop demonstration on intuitive figures so it was painted over a couple of days. It would have have been drying between layers. I keep my paints in a stay wet palette with blue shop towels as the base rather than the sponge and use white waxed freezer paper on top of it and for mixing. You can also add a small amount of acrylic retarder to slow down drying. I seldom use it myself.
@@pattscrivenerartist Thank you! I love the vibrant colors you use!
@@TxMimi My pleasure! I do love colour! 😊
This is going to sound strange…I absolutely love abstract art (water color, acrylic, gelli plates, and collage) and the barrier I am having is not ever wanting to paint over or cover anything. I can’t make sense of it.
Right now I’m working on making a couple of similar pieces
and if I feel like I
totally ruined the original (and I always feel that way😅) I have another to original admire.
It can be hard to paint over precious parts and end up with a lot of unfinished or unresolved paintings. Nothing is ever wrecked, it just has more paint on it. Keep moving forward! If you need some coaching hit me up.
@@pattscrivenerartist many thanks!! :)

I’ve heard that before! You can do it! It does take practice.

Thank you!🙏
👍
Thanks!
What colours would you suggest starting with on the palette to make a good stab at creating a picture in your style???
I keep my palette simple with 3 primaries and a couple of bonus colours. You could try - ultramarine or cobalt blue, a primary yellow, cadmium or pyrrole red and then add a couple of colours like teal and cadmium orange.
Beautiful 😊
Thank you so much 😀
You flipped the direction or orientation of the canvas.
I did turn it while working but the orientation of the figures is the same way as I started. Check out the circles that are in the painting.
Цікаво! Креативно!
