  • Let's turn a card idea into a Junk Journal! Wait a moment, is that even possible?
    I claim, yes! It is!
I mean, we are Junk Journalers, why wouldn't it work?
But... what should we consider? Which components of a card can we directly use for a Junk Journal and which ones not? And most importantly, if I borrowed an idea, how can I turn it into my very own artwork?
Wanna know more about the cards which inspired the journal? Check out my blog post:

It’s so beautiful that your question must be answered ‘yes’! You can make a beautiful journal from a card idea and a huge chunk of Luise Heinzl’s skills and talents. This was amazing to watch and well worth it!

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this card idea turned into a journal cover. I have taken card ideas and used them for journal covers, and I’ve taken journal cover ideas and turned them into cards. I make more cards for friends than I make journals. Either way, I have plenty of ideas, no matter what I am making. As always, thanks again for taking us through your process.

Luise, this is fantastic! I love this digital kit, and very much appreciate that you have added some background pages to the set! Thank you! 😍 Can’t wait to use it! I really like your idea for adapting a card front for the front of this journal. . .And the hidden spine is a perfect addition!

This is a definite YES! Your card inspiration has made a wonderful journal and will be a great project to try. I love how you think out of the box and create new or unusual things. The only thing that would have made it more card like would be for your cover card to actually open as card seperate from the journal cover where it would then be hidden writing spot. Thanks for sharing.

Your experiment was from infinity to beyond successful and I love your new kit, which will be mine soon. I'm very new at this (I've been making cards forever) and so far I've only done folios, which I've enjoyed immensely. I want to do one for my sister-in-law and then I'll dive into a journal, although I don't actually journal - minor detail. It's all about the process for me and I know I'll have fun. Your videos are fabulous and in addition to the inspiration, you always make me laugh. Take care.

Simply incredible!! I love everything about this project! The colors are perfect! I kept expecting you to use speckled egg for some reason. What was so interesting to me is your absolute command of Distress products and their wicking properties and your knowledge of the final color you get. Amazing!! (And I always have noticed that about you and always said to myself....dang! She should be a maker for Tim which happened and my heart filled with glee!!) That paper glue tape you used to connect the spine & covers is awesome....I got several rolls of that from my dad...he was a painter and used it to attach the paper backing to his paintings. I was not sure what I would use it for.....now I know!! Awesome way to make a spine!! What glue did you use to attach the final fabric? (Gorgeous that fabric....would love to see the eco-dye process....that is MY jam....as Tim would say!). Thank you so much for always being willing and open to sharing your process....it blows me away!! ❤️🦋💜

1:37:06 Poo and farts goodness me!😂 . We really don't want wet farts Luise. That would be disastrous.🙄😩🤭. I love the 3 dimensional look. I really like the papers too so I have bought them. This is a completely successful and gorgeous journal. I too feel that happy excitement when I have made something I love. At the moment I am working on a journal called, Sanctuary, that has an embroidered linen cover . The embroidery is freestyle hardanger with couching and raised stitches to give a nice texture. I have also stitched pockets in the same style. I stitched the 7 signatures together using a tatting technique to create a hidden spine which is very sturdy.

I absolutely love using the card design to make a journal! You're so funny...I'm glad you covered up the poo...ha I must say I would have trouble having enough patience in folding that rosette. The way you did the edges look so naturally aged. I agree the wider width of the spine looks good with the square size of the cover. It just fits well together! The understanding you have with the oxides etc. and how things mix together just right is amazing. The red on the rosette pulls the eye top the red that is peaking out on the book cover. I love your big blob of thread and buttons. I saw some other really grungy larger buttons in the video there on the right side. Looks like they have some grungy paper or something on the backs. I love those!! You didn't beat the page edges with your hammer thing...ha I remember watching that video the first time. It' does work good though. I have roughed up edges with scissors before but not used the water. I can't wait to try that. You always teach us so many creating tips!! Thank you.

You have inspired me to continue making junk journals..I was going to think of not doing any more, because there is a 'sameness' appearing in junk journals..so many people making them but there is such similarity about them all, including mine. you are such a great artist ,i make tons of cards ,they are roses in the one stroke method ,now i use some for journal covers,i just paint on the right side of my watercolor papers,if we use a 9 x 12 for the cover an 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock fits perfectly in side ,i love you
