50 Fund Playmaker: Jesper Nordqvist and Greenacre Homes & School

We are excited to share our 12th Playmaker - Greenacre Homes & School of Sebastopol - from the 50 Fund, the Host Committee’s philanthropic arm.
Greenacre Homes & School provides residential, education and vocational training service for developmentally delayed and emotional disturbed males from ages 7 to 20, the majority of whom are coming from backgrounds of abuse and neglect. Greenacre provides a healthy and vibrant place for special needs boys to live, learn, recreate and grow, and ultimately, become contributing members of society.
Greenacre Homes & School will use their Playmaker grant to support their Veggies and Vocations organic teaching garden that helps students learn construction skills, soil development, irrigation and plant selection, along with life skills through the sale of fresh produce and education on healthy diets and eating habits.
Jesper Nordqvist, Greenacre's special education vocational teacher, was recognized as their Playmaker.
"Jesper is a truly amazing person, teacher and role model for the kids of Greenacre Homes & School," said Rich Aguirre of Greenacre. "He brings so much energy, passion and commitment to a population of boys and young men that might otherwise be lost or forgotten. The life skills he teaches really does save lives and he is no doubt an unbelievable Playmaker in our community."

Maybe going back to the old ways will help heal society as a whole. Learning happens by doing, not sitting for 8 hours a day forcefed theory, with few applications, few hands on , few realtime viewing of actual method and applications. Discovering an individuals interests and supporting those over time is Golden. The individual learns to plant different types of life's seeds, maintain, and harvest. They get a viewpoint of relevance to seasons. Things having their time, their end, their rebirth, through consistent effort. This idea, this program is crucial to development. The alternative commercial system builds empty consumers and feeds them at a trough. Development is taught by passing tests and reading without true comprehensive methods and applications. A slippery slope to survive straight out of graduation gate, and a long learning curve of how this world of the flesh really operates. Discuss spiritual ideas or religion in school and one is excluded even further.
