    And the CGI & special effects still stand up better than many films 12 years later. Incredible scene and film. The best of the 5 Pirates films. SEVERELY UNDERRATED.

      Agreed. I find the criticism to the plot unbelievable. Every line of the script fits and I love a movie that stills delivers something new after seeing it so many times.

      I think what comes down to is that at this point in the history of film, photorealistic CGI and advanced compositing were available, but they would still go with practical effects when the desired scene allowed them to.

      I hate to be *that* guy, but the destruction of the Endeavour is highly unrealistic.
      1, The Dutchman and the Pearl must have fully-automatic machine gun cannons, as there is virtually no pausing for reloading. A normal firerate would be 2 rounds out of a cannon per minute, maybe double that with a skilled crew.
      2, The Endeavour was built to withstan heavy, absolutely brutal punishment from other warships of a similar or even higher class. She is literally the flagship and she is being absolutely shredded into woodchips in a matter of minutes, seconds on screen, by two much smaller vessels? A ship of similar size to the Endeavour woulda taken much longer to sink her. This is like putting the Endeavour against the Bismark, andhaving the Endeavour win! And the Dutchman and Pearl's hulls are like cardboard compared to the Endeavour's. Not to mention that the Endeavour's cannons fire extremely heavier cannonballs, like 4x heavier then both of the other ships' cannonballs. They woulda just about bounce off the Endeavour, and if their Captain wasn't so incompetent and issued an order to fire back, they woulda absolutely turned both the Dutchman and Pearl into woodchips and in not much longer than what the movie showed the two ships destroy the Endeavour.
      Highly unrealistic but still an amazing scene. Lots of work went into it and it holds up to this day pretty well. But as usual, good ol' Hollywood magic and plot convienence are always creating unrealistic scenes.

    • @HANKSANDY69420
      @HANKSANDY69420 Год назад +1

      Also the crew act like helpless robots, I wouldnt of waited that long to take action, and then abandon ship. Id of ignored the braindead statue of a Captain and ordered to fire back! I swear some rules and laws are followed so strictly it is hilariously dumb in situations like this.

    • @mnieuwhof
      @mnieuwhof Год назад

      @@HANKSANDY69420 That's why it's called special effects... it don't have to be realistic... on the big screen it's very cool... unless you call a ship emerging from the deep with lost souls aboard realistic!

    I use similar air horns at my job at a power plant. We use them to cool off equipment and to dry out huge tanks and stuff. The air force they create is really impressive. You can feed stuff in through the rear end and launch it too, which is pretty fun when no supervisors are looking. They could really hurt you though, I've had them suck the gloves right off my hands when setting them up from the rear.

      The layout of the top decks of the _Endeavor_ were designed for the cinematography of this scene.
      There is one staircase so Beckett can descend it right in the middle of all the destruction.

    I know that it had to happen as it was written, but to this day it bothers me that a 1st rate ship of the line would not only sail forth without any allied vessels flanking her, but then the audacity of allowing both the Pearl and the Dutchman to render her into piles of burnt wood and cloth.....yeah I'm not buying it. Although true enough no ship could sink the Supernatural Dutch Flyut/War Galleon (Dutchman), the Pearl was more or less a heavily modified East Indiaman/Race Built Galleon and would've likely been destroyed in 1-2 broadsides. Even worse, the Brethren Court Fleet just sat there doing not a darn thing, except cheer when it was all over. They were grossly outnumbered, outgunned, and likely had no serious inkling to fight.
    Upon first seeing the film I assumed I'd finally get to see what a 1st rate could do on-screen but was very much denied and I've yet to see ANY film since then bother with such a warship. However, watching the making of how they did this scene is quite interesting.
    So I ask, is it really impossible to have a film show ships of the line in battle or is that too much CGI budget?

      DarthVeltin You should watch the Dutch film "Admiral". It has three or four large-scale naval battles, with their formations and great attention to historical accuracy.

      You should pay more attention when watching the movie. 1st of all Endeavor would shred Pearl easily, no need for backup. 2nd There was Dutchman, presumably still sided with Becket, and only when they both turned to endeavor, not shooting each other, he understood that he is fucked.

    So many efforts and work for such a stupid and senseless end to the battle... two pirate vessels sink a three deck line ship passing by and hundrets of full armed battle ships of the East India Company just turn away and go back home... complete nonse- sorry I mean Disney...
