Josh Bixler you and your crew have given me a new lease on life. Ive had about 11 years of one major tragedy after another and had lost all hope. About twenty years ago I was really into RC planes but I got tired of months of building and hundreds of dollars for an airframe just to crash. This inexpensive easy building technique is amazing. Its reopened RC flying back up for me and has given me something I had lost recently and that is hope. Like the promise of a new day you good folks have gifted me hope. Thank you!

+FliteTest Hi Josh, your second nature is to be a lecturer :) Your build videos are interesting to watch even if don't do build. I watch them in the background during my work instead of listening a radio :)
Another genius build and video to match. Thanks Josh and the entire team for taking time to do this for us. I'm scratch building the Spear now. Cutting the UK foam board is a challenge - especially when you have to cut out holes! Would love to see you do one of these off plans.
ok Josh and Josh u guys got me started , building a warhawk w retracts , they don't rotate so I'm improvising, I'll post pics when she's done, it's my first build and first plane, thanks for the inspiration dudes
I think there is an error in the Centre Cover section of the plans. I am closely following the video (scratch build) and thought I had done something wrong. This section is printed as one large piece with a 50% score close to the middle. I realised that this should have been a cut to make it 2 pieces. After cutting I notice that the paper hinge section is not marked on the plan. Thought you would like to know. I've gone back and checked each of the 3 plans and it's the same on all of them
Congrats to Flitetest for a masterpiece. I've scratch built many flitetest style planes and I would not consider this plane for a first build. Wish DOLLARTREE would start selling the better foam board.
Hi Flight Test, I have to say after a long lay off from modelling your plans are a delight. My first time building with foamboard three weeks ago with a tiny trainer then to an FT Explorer now building the spear which will be interesting after flying a Zaggi for a couple of years. I cant wait for the weather to improve so I can go flying. Keep up the great work guys, best entertainment around, love the videos I think its your passion for the hobby that has inspired me, so keep them coming.
Love the use of Drafting aides (30/60 triangle) for squaring things up. Makes me feel relevant again, unlike CADD. Great job Josh, love watching your builds. Might suggest the use of an adjustable angle rather than 30/60. A beautiful wing style design, can it handle extra weight? Or be up-scaled?
i made a jet ft spear with a 6s 70mm edf and it got up to 125mph according to gps, it flies surprisingly well for having a 6s batt shoved inside. it also has unlimited vertical which is rare for an edf
Update. I had to get rid of the Omnibus, it was faulty. I went with an old SP Racing f3 that I had sitting around and ran into servo elevon issues. Took me 2 weeks to get elevons properly working on Inav. This was a fun easy build. Thanks!
Fnally I maidened my FT Spear today ( August 14. 2019) , after I built it almost a year ago, it was hanging around on my wall with unfinished paint job. I first flew it with a 2400 3S Battery and then with a 2200 4S which gave it much more thrust. I liked, that it flew from the first throw without any trimming very well and glides nicely. Actually I got 8 Minutes with th 2400 Battery... I wondered that the motor I purchased from flitetest (Powerpack C) was only for 3S but the BLHeli for 2-4 S.... I hope the motor doesn't burn away.... Anyway it flew amazing. I didn't know it was such a great FPV Ship at all...
Hey Josh, that thing looks so fun that I'm planning on doing one of these...but I'm gonna throw a twist at ya: Instead of using a single BLDC outrunner, I'm planning on using twin counter-rotating Cox 0.049 throttleable engines in pusher config, and I'll have fixed tricycle landing gear on it as well, as I want to be able to take off and land like a normal airplane. Gonna be fun! And I will eventually FPV it! I'm thinking a mixture of engine location, configuration, and a little MonoKote on it will seal the foam off nicely against any residues that might otherwise attack it. Twin 30cc fuel tanks, one for each engine, should provided pretty good duration too.
Awesome video. would be fun hobby to start, learn how to build and learning to fly with kids. just sad that not everyone can afford theses items. but maybe one day. again love watching videos from you guy's 2 thumbs up 🖒👍
Just a (bit of a noob) thought... Why not make the wing-tips more symmetrical so that it could take off from standing on its tail/back-end making it easier for take off when out flying by ones self? I'm kinda surprised this hasn't been done with any of the wing designs yet, or would it not fly as good? Would love to buy a kit with this kind of solo functionality ;)
Awesome video. would love to be able to get into these hobbies. would be great time spent with kids. unfortunately not able to afford at the moment. But love looking and dreaming. Again awesome Channel. My kids and I enjoy it 🖒👍
Hi. I've been building flitetest planes for almost 2 years now and I'm loving all of them. I was just wondering what paper size the full size plans were meant to be printed on.
Josh Bixler oh ok. Thanks. I was wondering why the plans always didn't match on A4. What about the non tiled plans? What paper size should they be printed on?
Josh Bixler oh ok. Thanks. I was wondering why the plans always didn't match on A4. What about the non tiled plans? What paper size should they be printed on?
The table is astonishing in its complexity and beauty. You could hang it on the wall (why would anyone do that?) and call it "Workbench" and people would stare and be fascinated. I couldn't watch the build for the table.
It will be interesting to see your BLHeli ESC settings for planes and specially flying wings - everybody is just showing racing quads related settings.
First time I found your videos I was looking after videos for Parrot Disco. Now I felt in love of your projects and I would like to know what parts or components I need to match the CHUCK of the Parrot Disco at more affordable price if possible.
I am just about to pull the trigger on this and the power pack but I can't seem to find a video about installing the Vector system into this build. I bought the Vector for a quad build (2 years ago) but just haven't used it yet, then realized i can use it for both. I have watched the vid on a Vector install in a drone (very nice) and heard you were planning one for the Spear...I know I could figure it out but seeing it for reference is always a big help!!! Great job guys!!!!
hey guys another awesome plane. just wondering when you'll be coming out with a video showing some mods. either from the ft crew or fans. it will be hard to improve on this great design but it can be done. already working on breaking 120 mph. had to upgrade the servos. found out the hard way. maybe a short video on doing mods and some quick tips like bigger servos. thanks guys and God bless.
I would like to see smaller and fewer tabs in the laser cut foamboard. The worst ones are in the corners where they can pull the paper off. I know they are a pain to handle but I have had a lot of paper peel on my speed build kits.
+Josh Bixler Hey Josh. I just wanted to know that you are a great guy and I look up to you. I do have one question though. Would you be able to make a video about how you guys were able to open the cargo door on the FT Guinea Pig?
When releasing plans could you please please release the new scratch build plans and the plans you use for lasercutting to make it a little easier on those of us with a cnc or laser cutter?
Hi. Do you think it is possible to install a gimbal to 2 axes to use the airplane for photogrammetry works? The space in the cabin seems pretty good. Do you have any references from someone who has used it for this purpose? Congratulations on the design
since you are making so much strides in promoting flight maybe you could do the next step in making these simple designs into one person to two person capable drones :) ?
Perhaps the quickest FT Plane I've seen y'all pop out yet! I'm curious on how the motor handels continued use. By the end of the second flight does it need a cool down, or does having the esc exposed like that cool of the system enough for practical back to back flying? My pushers always seem to get hot with the Grand Turbo after a little and I've been trying many ways to address it! The next attempt is a bit ambitious (but hopefully not rubbish).
Is there any way you could release the both the laser cutting plans, and the scratch build plans? The new Scratch build plans are awesome! But they make CAMing planes for a CNC or laser cutter a whole lot harder!

Maiden today, still need a little tuning. I set my rate a bit low and didn't have much throw, but still flew solidly. One hinge joint is a bit heavy on the glue, so I may need to re-do the hinges. hi josh . thank you so much for your great the job . you made me love this hobby . so I have a question do I need to use any board for this plane or I can just use esc with motor and receiver from transmitter?
Do you know how they land the B-2? How they have trucks come in under the wings? My challenge for you guys is to land a plane on top of the ATV. Good Luck!
hi, I'm thinking about building this wing or either the mini arrow. I'm relatively new to flying wings and would like to know which one is more durable and easier to fly for FPV????? I built the tiny trainer a couple months ago, man that thing is tuff and super smooth. Thanks so much for all the help

Josh Bixler = Bob Ross for R/C
It's so cool how you guys offer up the plans for free and the kit for a good reasonable price that's sweet
+FliteTest Hi Josh, your second nature is to be a lecturer :) Your build videos are interesting to watch even if don't do build. I watch them in the background during my work instead of listening a radio :)
TheLaidukas your very kind friend. I'm always nervous doing builds. I don't want to miss a step or be boring. :)
are you really josh
I have builtmany of your amazing models
i do the same thing
TheLaidukas same
One day would love to see a flight test episode of how to craft a RC aircraft from the idea all the way through to final design.
A true Masterclass in Foamboard design and building! Thanks Josh.
Foamy Flightmaster thank you brother. The ft family had a huge hand in it.
Your videos are among the best on RUclips IMO. Very clear instruction and high quality video, keep up the great work!
Fantastic Video!
I didn't have this type of styrofoam so I built it out of 1,5 mm cardboard and it still works :D
Thanks for providing the plans.
Another genius build and video to match. Thanks Josh and the entire team for taking time to do this for us. I'm scratch building the Spear now. Cutting the UK foam board is a challenge - especially when you have to cut out holes! Would love to see you do one of these off plans.
Wow...bravo..👍👍👍, beautiful and very good...👍👍👍👍
God bless all who read and may God bless flight test for the great content 🙏🏽🙏🏽
insest is badass
Aidan Greenfield i dont have a sister
I killed her cause i can
Can't wait to build this one with my 8 year old son this weekend. He is stoked!! (so is his dad!)
I just finished my spear, and its so awesome thank you guys for making this all possible for me. :)
still have it?
@@JamesManimal yea the link is invalid can't get one
Josh that was awesome I had a great time watching you build this and watching the maiden. thank you brother for taking the time to teach us
ok Josh and Josh u guys got me started , building a warhawk w retracts , they don't rotate so I'm improvising, I'll post pics when she's done, it's my first build and first plane, thanks for the inspiration dudes

Thank you very much for sharing everything 😊
Congrats to Flitetest for a masterpiece. I've scratch built many flitetest style planes and I would not consider this plane for a first build. Wish DOLLARTREE would start selling the better foam board.
Man I love this wing but I would love 😍to see a drak style build !!! I think others would also !
Great videos as always from you guys!
Wow what awesome build. Need to buy myself a Transmitter first and then buy the kit. Most of all learn how to fly first. New to RC
Now we do exact the same process on the other side:P
;)
marcin gumis
AWSOME!!! Many Thanks for the plans and build video!!, you guys are great!!! I really enjoy these video's!!!!
I Got it printed up and starting to cut it out thanks when I first saw it I ask for the plans you guys and women do great work awesome
Hey Chad, What paper size you selected for this print? I printed on A0 size and plans got enlarged :(.
Aniruddha Chhatre letter sized paper friend.
I used 36 sheets of A4 and glued them together ...
When will it be available at the Graupner Store ?

Ouch! Noticed the blister Bixler. Awesome build.
Thank you for everything
Just got my Spear kit in the mail today. Woot! My first FT build, so I'm gonna be real tentative with it.
i made a jet ft spear with a 6s 70mm edf and it got up to 125mph according to gps, it flies surprisingly well for having a 6s batt shoved inside. it also has unlimited vertical which is rare for an edf

@Josh Bixler How long before they are on the Graupner website so that use on the other side of the pond can get the kit
I use an old pizza cutter for the score cuts. works great and doesn't cut the paper on the back side.

great built flite test! thankyou :D
Here we go!
I love your design and I am building it ya hoo.....
you can use a wooden tooth pick to support the edge lines that do through the wing.
wow, i was waiting for this, thanks
Hi. I've been building flitetest planes for almost 2 years now and I'm loving all of them. I was just wondering what paper size the full size plans were meant to be printed on.
Kevin Wang souls be sized to letter 8.5x11" paper friend.
What paper size should they be printed on?
what size foam board do I need would A3 foam board be the right size I would buy it from you but I in uk and costs to much for shiping
No, you'd want 20"x 30", A3 is not big enough.
The table is astonishing in its complexity and beauty. You could hang it on the wall (why would anyone do that?) and call it "Workbench" and people would stare and be fascinated. I couldn't watch the build for the table.
Is there any video on how to install the fancy "servo arm hatch locks" instead of the plywood locks that come with the kit? you can see it @ 0:24
Thanks josh now I want to build one.
Good job

nice plane
I've invested into making a 1/2 (slightly smaller) version of this, should be interesting. Might have to report back.
This is so much beefier than the Arrow. I taco'd my Arrow the other day. Thinking about upgrading.
foam 3mm or 5mm ?
I would like to see smaller and fewer tabs in the laser cut foamboard. The worst ones are in the corners where they can pull the paper off. I know they are a pain to handle but I have had a lot of paper peel on my speed build kits.

I would love to see a scratch build of one of these. Getting the pattern on and everything.
Me Too!!
Any chance of a white foam speed build kit coming out soon? I need something to fill will LEDs with the sun setting earlier and earlier.
nice!!! Can you glass-fiber it?? to make it stronger....? thanks
Can you buy just the laser cut sheet of wood that has the control horn and spars? Also, is instant glue the same thing as CA glue or super glue?
Hi, great video! Are you going to have de FPV pod on the FT Store? thanks!
When releasing plans could you please please release the new scratch build plans and the plans you use for lasercutting to make it a little easier on those of us with a cnc or laser cutter?
Foamboard is like a depron but with two layers of paper ? And is it easier to work with than a normal depron ?
have you tested the max payload that FT Spear can have?
Hi. Do you think it is possible to install a gimbal to 2 axes to use the airplane for photogrammetry works? The space in the cabin seems pretty good. Do you have any references from someone who has used it for this purpose? Congratulations on the design
Hi Josh!!!!!. Really great video!!!!.
I’ve seen that in the video you use a 30A ESC.
But what motor are you using in this build?
Best regards!!!!
Cool!
Do y'all sell the plans or is there a down load link for plans? This would be awesome for my 60 acres in west Texas !
since you are making so much strides in promoting flight maybe you could do the next step in making these simple designs into one person to two person capable drones :) ?
I can't find a link to build the power pod and the links in the description are dead.
Perhaps the quickest FT Plane I've seen y'all pop out yet! I'm curious on how the motor handels continued use. By the end of the second flight does it need a cool down, or does having the esc exposed like that cool of the system enough for practical back to back flying? Hi ft !
One question : I may have missed something, but what are the optional parts made for ?
Thank you for your work, it's awesome !
Cool dude
How long did this take to render?
if it takes an hour to render 10 mins it would take 6 hours to render 60 mins, not that long
on my modest pc I can render 1920x1080 30fps at a bitrate of 12mbps in about 3 minutes
How much 1080p in 3 minutes?
about 3-4 minutes lol forgot to say that
in premiere pro
Is there going to be a naz32 how to video? I just ordered today.
what is the material used as the spar? and also for the firewall in the power pods of the swappable series?
Can you advise what hot glue gun you use as well as the brand of glue sticks?
I have purchased 3 Glue guns and many different glue sticks and I cannot find anything that allows for a slow drying time that you are able to demonstrate in your videos. Everything that I have purchased allows me only seconds to hold the materials together before the glue goes hard (and I have used high and low watt glue guns as well. All gun / glue combinations I have used don't give me the drying time and flexibility you have). Thanking you in advance !
Отличная модель. Элевоны большеваты. И задний срез фюзеляжа можно свести на нет
Hmm... I may not have accounted enough for the radius on the pushrods. I got no down deflection, but plenty of up. I may just go ahead and get some proper connectors and re-do those (again). Otherwise, she's together. Not as pretty as yours, but it's my first one.
Maiden today, still need a little tuning. I set my rate a bit low and didn't have much throw, but still flew solidly. One hinge joint is a bit heavy on the glue, so I may need to re-do the hinges. Couple scrapes on the nose/belly, a little leading edge ding, a busted prop, and some fixable damage to the fins, which I'd planned to reinforce anyway. I'd have posted a video, but my friend kinda botched the recording. :) One thing, though... this sucker is a bit fast for the little field behind our office. ZOOM!
Hey Flite Test! This is my first speed build kit from y'all, is your waterproof foam board spray paintable? If not, what is the preferred method?
Can you leave a link to the controller you used or any rc controller well work?
*please* reduce the background music volume by 6db, we older guys struggle to hear over the noise
How specific!
know I know how to build it now thanks
You’re like the Bob Ross of RC airplane making 🤣
is there a description anywhere on the optional centre fin placement .are yhet used instead of the wing tip fins or both se used together
can you do a video on using a naze 32 in a wing like you mentioned.
hi josh . thank you so much for your great the job . you made me love this hobby . so I have a question do I need to use any board for this plane or I can just use esc with motor and receiver from transmitter?
Do you know how they land the B-2? How they have trucks come in under the wings? My challenge for you guys is to land a plane on top of the ATV. Good Luck!
