Now that we’ve gotten to see our monster be 17 take flight, it’s time to bring history to life with an amazing paint job. This week we put paint, more paint, and then even more paint our 20 foot creation. Thanks to our good friends from the community and in life, this B-17 is it going to celebrate the history of dear community members grandfather. The aircraft will be a replica of bomboogie which flew over 99 missions. As the paint job gets finished up, we take on a new challenge to make the Turrets, In smoke systems work seamlessly off of a joystick in Arduino board. Finally we put our aircraft into the air for one last time for an amazing flight at flite fest 2022. Every flight is a challenge and every flight is a huge reward as we get closer to our final video with laser tag, combat, and of course tons of special effects.

That looks awesome! I'm really excited to see the next video.
Jeff and OG I didn't think about y'all liking this but now I'm like y'all can't wait for the next one! Peace
...for home defense. Mounted with Little Tonys and loaded with Evan's rounds.
Next I'll find Brandon Herrera on a Brewstew video. 😂
@@zer0deaths862 if that ever happens im buying a lotto ticket
You should use both smoke bombs. Gray smoke simulates lesser damage, like a radiator leak or fuel leak. So make it go first. Black smoke simulates fire and more serious damage, so it goes last.
I thought so too
Well they said I should be reusable, so next time hopefully they can do more smoke.
Also have to consider the amount of weight that it would add it would be another 4 smoke bombs might be too much
Agreed
@@bawbup7763 they did say the props are underpowered for the aircraft so they could get more power with larger props.
My Grandfather (Col. Raymond Brown) was a B-17 pilot during WWII. I joined the military because of him. He would have loved this video.
That’s cool 😊
Amen❤️🙏
I salute to you, and your grandfather. I am in the marine corps.
Mine father was a B-17 pilot and he would have been amazed at this video if he were alive today. Good work guys!

Because of the speed it is flying at - this is one of the most realistic B-17 models I've seen! It looks perfect in the air.
Very scale speeds for sure
they sped the footage up lol, irl it was quite slow
@@blueskys6265 the footage is sped up lol
@@Next0mancer No it isnt, there is no speed boost (which there should be if it is sped up)
Since it isnt sped up in the beginning because the crowd is reacting normally.
@@Next0mancer It also wouldnt be able to fly much slower.
The plane is really good, but that paint job is absolutely epic. Lifts the whole model up another notch.
“well technically paint makes things heavier, so it only takes it down” 🤓

I agree, the paint job is awesome but the wood props kill the paint job somewhat. Anyone agree that they need to paint the props?
True but for when it isn’t being flown, it would make it look so much more realistic. Same with adding a retractable landing gear. Still looks great tho.
I have a suggestion to make:
You should add sound to an airplane.
I model railroad. It’s fun and all, but the sound adds a touch of realism.
I haven’t seen it done on many modern rc planes, I think it would be a great challenge to add sound to an airplane, wether it be the b17 or some other scale airplane. You could fit a decently large/heavy speaker in a larger airplane. You could hook it up to a voltage reader or something and when the airplane throttles up, then would increase the audible rpms. Would be cool to see the results.
Sound systems are out there for them, but there's no replicating the deep bass tones that aircraft make. The only thing that really comes through audibly in the air is treble, so it doesn't sound very realistic.
@@Skinflaps_Meatslapper exactly. Put a sub or two on there, i think the fuselage could at least incorporate a 6” at 400w rms or something, would be interesting to see how they run an amp.
Gas engines would pretty much do it. It won't sound exactly like a real one, but gas engines sound A LOT more realistic. Unfortunately, they can also be A LOT more dangerous.
MRRcSound tranducers would boom on that thick foam airframe.
I'm curious to know what kind of construction techniques could be used to create a sub enclosure that was both light enough and rigid enough to have a good response to hear from the air. The thought of dropping a traditional particle board and felt carpet box in a lightweight foam fuselage seems like the antithesis to their goals.
Moki radials are the closest thing to replicate an actual aircraft engine, but they really don't have that deep droning sound that's characteristic of a full scale radial except when at idle. In flight they sound more like tiny V-12's being revved to death (which sounds absolutely fantastic on their own, but totally out of place for a B-17). The more conventional OS style twins and whatnot do have a realistic engine sound...as in real weed eaters flying through the air. That just breaks all the realism for me, hearing a couple chainsaws flying in close formation. I'd rather just hear the props from an electric motor...they're quiet by comparison but achieve a similar tonal effect to real aircraft if you listen really close or buzz yourself.
i had an amazing time at flight fest 2022 ..drove 12 hours from Massachusetts and actually got to meet and talk to Josh Bixler who has had an amazing impact on my life ..this hobby saved me from a bad addiction and depression and thanks to the flight test guys I found this hobby and filled that void 5years clean and still going ..FOREVER GRATEFUL TO YOU GUYS...can't wait till next year
Congratulations on finding yourself, so happy to have you as part of the family
@@davidjester5085 thanks dave amazing meeting you guys .....and cant wait for next year
I met Josh Bixler myself a few years ago at the Edgewater flight Park. I got to have an impromptu tour of the Big White Barn. He was so down to earth and friendly. He said it's not really about the airplanes although that is really fun , but it's about getting families together, and that is the ministry of it. That's the main thing that stuck with me about meeting Josh.
Hope the smoke bombs don’t catch the foam on fire. Great job to all that have worked and sponsored this project. God Speed 👍🏻✌🏻🖖🏻
Wrapped in kevlar/nomex cloth, they wouldn't.
@@DetroitMicroSound Wow, that's awesome :) I was wondering this myself
@@DetroitMicroSound good ! I would hate it to get damaged !!!
I mean- That would be my solution. Maybe make kevlar or nomex composite tubes to accept the smoke bombs, that are reloadable.

Scam
Just kind of an idea, why dont u just use like airsoft mechaboxes for the turrets, it would be much easier to do than fireworks and u can reuse it or repair it easily, the only thing is it would not do much dmg, but it would look cooler and if some kind of mechanism would be hitten, the the fall of from sky would look cooler too (sorry for mistakes, Czech Republic)
I have loved every second of this B17 build series. You guys are doing EXACTLY what I've always wanted to do and have not had the opportunity to do yet. You are making so many dreams come true. @bryan madewell AMEN
I think you need a PBJ-1D now. My grampa was a tail gunner with the VMB-413 Shamrocks.
Great work, btw. It looks very convincing! Have you considered adding a loud speaker behind each prop, that reproduces the sounds of each of the Wright R-1820's? (Directly behind the props, next the the motors, and facing forward, so the prop affects the engine sound, just like with the real plane.)
Looks amazing. The only thing I think could make it better is retractable landing gear for less drag and even more realism.
now you need to make 8 more like it and make a "flight" to fly formation.
and drop bomb on rc targets.
It was a definite treat to see this amazing airplane at Flite Fest, both up close and in the air. It’s truly an amazing build, and I wish you guys many happy flights with it!
It’s beautiful guys!!! My dad,,, and I’m sure many many more WW2 vets would have been so very proud of you guys for what you have accomplished! Really love it!
I've been watching the channel for a long time, and this feels like a beautiful progression from tentatively taking those first few flights, right up till you get that one rc model you've always wanted.
It's okay for me to start crying a little bit because that bomber looks absolutely Gorgeous with a capital G?!
Absolute beauty.
Gramps did his tour over Europe as a belly gunner and he would tell me his stories of battle and how (Big ass bird) would always bring her boys back home I have to say I’m 57 now and all them stories came flooding back in my memories as I watched this beautiful bird take flight and I cried like I was 10 again when Gramps made his final flight home.
Thank you so much for capturing the spirit of the bravery that took place during those days of uncertainty.
This one holds a special place in my heart.
My uncle was a bombardier on a B-17 bomber during World War II..... I'm 71 now...... Also a Veteran of Vietnam (70-71) and Iraq ( 04-05) Wars . I was a door gunner UH-1 helicopter in Nam with the 118th AHC .... And in Iraq worked on AH-64A Apache attack helicopter for the 1/151Aviation Regiment..... Retired from the Army
Thank you for your service!
That was pretty slick. You guys and the pentric bros are reason why I started this hobby. The enthusiasm. I recently had a bunch of stuff stolen so I have been really disheartened about flying. But this hobby did something I never thought would happen, after 25 years of me and my step father basically hating each other, this hobby has created a bond between us I would never had expected. It's like we are friends now. This hobby is something special, I'm hoping to get back to flying soon.
Beautiful build! Top marks, so jealous!
Next up, get some scale prop paint and spinners... knowing you boys it probably won't last that long!!👍🇬🇧
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Let just take a moment and give these guy a applause. Yall did a excellent job on B-17. Flies like a real thing. And that's the crowd pleaser, and they love it. That's what Radio Control is all about. Fun!!
Are there any plans to give it functional bombing doors? You could use those impact activated "Snaps" or "Pops" for kids on a slide to make them drop similarly to how the long bomb runs on those would be like? It would be super cool to see more functionality on such an awesome project that might already have the space for it.
I believe thats been part of the point of developing this huge monster, is being able to drop stuff like watermelons.
@@stuchris Ha! Why stop at watermelons?
There is nothing that beats a couple of pounds of C4.
@@MelbaOzzie When in doubt, C4!
And make a functional bomb sight while your are at it 😅
Why stop at C4? Load that beast up with some loose lego bricks and you could take out an invading army singlehandedly.
That is the coolest thing I have seen ya'll build so far! I love how Jason (Jason was flying it right?) was so pumped after sticking the landing, but he kept his composure the whole time! Great job everyone! Thank you for all your videos! I hope to make it to Flitefest soon!
Okay! And now another 200, to fly in a proper Formation. 😉👍
now that is Au-some sauce ....good job on this fantastic build ....very impressive

TO THE BRAVE MEN OF BOMBOOGIE, THANKYOU Sirs and thank you guys for your educational family-friendly channel its rarer on the platform than you might think, this channel runs the gambit of ages from 5 to 105 well done the whole team past and present
Awesome build! The epic looks of this warbird just heightens the honor you built this for the recognition of those members of the greatest generation who manned those bombers back in World War 2. A great plane honoring great men!
Would have liked to see the props painted in metallic silver…but what a beauty!
Or flat black with yellow tips would be correct.
Let's turn the music volume down. I can barely hear them over that RUclips special music
You're missing some weathering on top of the wing. B-17s had exhaust ports on top of the wings behind the engines and those would get dirty too. Other than that, it's an amazing B-17. Keep up the great work
They could use a first person cockpit view and bombardier view. Go the extra mile with VR lol
@@andrewborden1009 They probably could lol
There are actually not exhaust ports on the top of the wing. Those are air vents to vent air in the wing, (like fuel vapor). It is the #1 most incorrect thing on B-17 builds... and these guys did it right by not putting it on there ;-)
@@adamdrain Oh ok, I didn't realize that. Thank you for the information
There is a far more efficient way to bleed off the paint can. Turn it upside down, bleed off the compressed gas. Then when the gas has emptied just cut the top off the can, or drill a hole and pour it out. That way you don't waste the massive amount he wasted in aerosol form! Make sure you shake it first of course.
As a big fan of WWII planes, the B-17 is my favorite bomber ever built. This thing is amazing, great job!!!!
Not sure if I would be able to fly that with all the people watching on a re maiden. No pressure. lol
That is my favorite plane ✈️
Muito bom, excelente, maravilhoso. Parabéns a todos vocês pelo grande projeto B-17 estilizado.

I think the extra weight helps. Helps with the inertia and realism. Big planes don't always look good if they are too light...
Seeing that fly made me so emotional. All the work and expertise that went into it. When it was up in the sky, you couldn't tell if it was a model or "the real thing". Great job guys 👏 👍
All that paint but none for the props... Why so many modelers make an epic plane and then throw a set of ugly props on it amazes me!
Tremendous. The pain job, and honoring a storied craft, takes it to a whole new level. I really hope the smoke system only simulates damage, not doing any.
Yeah, I'm not interested in seeing them fire a potato cannon at this thing.
At this point, now i regret refusing to study math, and engineer class.
No shot of that
I consider each and every one of you guys an artist in your own right. Your work and the bomber was and is phenomenal! If you've ever watched the movie Babe you will understand this with a chuckle; "That'll do pig, that'll do.. "
You guys should try and make a laser or BB c-ram to shoot Rc models down
Great work! The B-17 is a beautiful model, I hope she survives at least 99 missions like it's namesake. Thanks to War Thunder for the sponsorship.
I just love it when the notifications “some one liked your comment” or “you got a new subscribers” it makes me happy

Wow! That plane looks and flies exactly like the real thing! Can't wait to see an epic battle. Don't forget to fix the retracts ;)

@@Next0mancer rly?
@@ralphbronzin9721 yeah, its extremley slow and lumbering irl

Where are the waist gunners? Even their windows are not shown. That's not right. Each B-17 had a crew of TEN MEN. You just left out two of them. That guy's grandfather would be spinning in his grave.
gotta agree with my limited knowledge of b17s
The spots for the windows are there if you look close. They may have simply ran out of time to get them painted in or they possibly had other plans for the waist guns that did not come to fruition. BTW, did you know the crew weight stencil for the B-17 was 1200 lbs? Because it was originally designed for a crew of 6.
Hello flite test my name is Parth Apturkar from India🇮🇳 I never coment on an singal video but when I see this video I am shocked that how beautiful this plain is and by the way I love flying plain and plains landing flying . Yea right scammer, get a life, a real job and quit tryna scam people outta their hard earned money. I see these comments all the time on different yt channels and their videos.
Don't play warthunder. Too much grind.
The paint job is sooooo cool
Your compressor shoulkd be outside if y'all aren't wearing hearing protection. Also, if you're not draining the compressor nightly you have a dangerous explosion risk. Look it up.
Imagine a scale Me-163 with a model rocket motor intercepting that thing
Stunning work guys, truly stunning.
She sounds amazing in the air.
Looking forward to the live-action vids!
No Hobby Mask? You crazy. Bird looks great, cmon man, put on a hobby mask when rattle canning, there a lot of stupid youngins out there.
A quarter of that paint can going into the cup, and the rest going straight into his lungs 😫
Yeah, the whole time I'm thinking "why isn't he doing this outside"?
It is pronounced Bomb BOO gy. Boo as in scary ghost Boo, not buggy. Boogie Woogie was a genre of blues music in the black community. That's the source of the name on the plane.
One quick mistake on the decals it would have been U.S. Army Air Force in WW2 not U.S. Air Force
Mega awesome for sure! But no retracts?! A suggestion in the "looks" department: Color the trailing edge of the wing, to de-emphasize the stark white "cliff" look. And maybe some scale(ish) prop hubs.
Paint the propellers black.
The only thing i'd have done to this awesome bad boy is to have painted the props the original Hamilton - Standard colors for authenticity to fit in with the rest of the paint job.
You can even get the original Hamilton - Standard prop decals.
Would like flight footage of the b-17. Looks super scale.
The verbiage is "war worn", .... as it is wearing the scars of battle! 😁👍✌
You spent ALL that time painting and weathering your B17 to make it authentic, and you forget to paint your props,🙄
As a static scale model builder myself, the painting process is fascinating.
Weathering is such an art form
A beautiful work of art. But considering all of the detail work that went into the paint job, I’m curious why you left the props unpainted? Painting them black with yellow tips would have completed the look.
Connecting with history!
Thanks Juan!!! The Liberty Foundation would be interesting in working with you in the future!
MY SUGGESTION IS A REAL DESTRUCTION. MAYBE ATTACHING A RAILGUN TO A FIGHTER AIRCRAFT. SO THAT IT'S SIMULATE A TRUE CHASING SENARIO.
Maybe have a switch on the transmitter to enable "damaged engine mode"
So when an engine gets hit it that engine will spool down and or stop providing thrust
I used to hold spray paint can upside down to bleed the pressure and than use a can opener on the side and pour the paint out of the spray can. I found that method to be less messy than spraying it into a cup like you did...
What a true work of art!
What an amazing journey to see this plane being created from beginning to end. This plane is beautiful on the ground and especially in the air.
great stuff, I think same scale b29 and b36 would be stunning. a b36. now what a sight
I found the best way to get paint out of the can is to spray through a drinking straw just hold the straw against nozzle and press cuts down on the paint mist going over your fingers hope this helps you guys great video .... excellent paint work on the B-17
Magnificent bird... Awesome plane!
That is an impressive paint scheme, Well done Travis! The plane itself is also wonderful, as usual FT Crew.
I'm thinking sticks of dynamite.
I've got this neighbor who...
Good job guys
Cant wait for the 1:1 replica that can carry real bombs :)

Congratulations , Awesome project from beginning to end.
Have a Great Flight fest !
Try to make vids on trying to land with failed systems like ailerons, engine etc
Looking at this on the speed, scale and presence in the air…if I was at Oshkosh I would assume it was the real deal. All you need is a massive PA system to roll in sound for 4 massive radial engines and no one would know.
Guys should make a p51 mustang the plane that escorted the b17
How much spray paint did that guy breathe!?
Do you know the community member’s grandfather’s name? My grandfather was the pilot of this exact plane! Would love a little more info if possible.
Greetings. Just saw this comment. His name was Richard E. Drain. His crew's pilot was Raymond Thompson. There were several crews that flew this airframe throughout the war. We have a database of all 390th Personnel. Get in touch with me if you see this!
What a beast of a plane. Great job all around. Wish I could work there with y'all. I have a master's in curriculum and instruction, let me know, Haha
They would build a Star destroyer with deployable tie fighters
First in Australia, which is a day ahead of the USA, so I WIN!!
A B-17 with 3-blade wooden propellers? What the F**K? Also, electric motors mean no roar or growl when flying - just an incessant ... eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, like a big fricken bug.
Would you prefer 2 bladed props plastic ones?
My great grandpa was a tail gunner on the b-17… idk which one.
This looks awesome. However, I think it could use an idle up switch configuration in order to improve realism by preventing the props from stopping. Thank you for all the community support and inspiration :-) -p
Could easily set throttle trim for that, just click it up until the motors start. Use the up and down trim button as an idle/off switch.
I believe the extra weight from all the paint makes her fly more Gracefully and Scale-like and having more stability as well.. Very Nice!!
I didn't know if it was that, or just the looks of the paint job. But that thing did look good in the air.
the footage was sped way up.
What an outstanding model . If it was mine , I would never fly it in fear it crashed !
