I Bought 25 Untested Graphics Cards For £50 ($70)...

- I placed a bid on a "job lot" of untested graphics cards on eBay, and before I realised I had won they turned up at my door. Today we're going to take a look at what's inside this mystery package full of possibly faulty GPUs.

Ohhh was hoping to see that 5970 working :(
I bought one a few months ago and it was also broken, maybe it's for the best, crossfire is always a pain 😅
Yeah hopefully I’ll revive it with a heat gun or something, even if it works for just an hour or so 😂
My two favourite RUclipsrs!!!
I just bought one too! €35.. I had some issues with it losing image when I was trying to play GTA V and Cyberpunk wouldn't even start... but I'll try it again on a clean install and different hardware, maybe it helps :)
if you hope they work they will always be dead when you think there broken for some god reason it will run better then ever
how did they turn up without you realising you had won the auction, before you paid...?
Wow a GPU in stock
Wow a broke boi without decent pre-order mindset

I absolutely love how UK youtubers have this intentional "low budget" feel that becomes their charm and "thing". Like Ashens, guy has over million of subs and he just reviews random stuff on his sofa, just brilliant.
I love Ashens’ videos!
@@RandomGaminginHD me too, he's amazing
Everytime I watch RG vids , I think about Ashens and the sad onions.

Mom , can we have a 6800xt?
No, we have a 6800xt at home.
6800xt at home: 2:14
im sure there is a gamer that asked exactly this and got the old 6800xt as a present!
John wick let’s collaborate on a future movie you’ll star in.
seller : that's the OG version kido 😏
It would actually be a funny joke to give this old card to a gamer for his birthday
Just put it on ebay and see the prices go UP... If the buyer complains, just tell him he got a 6800xt!
If there's one thing I've learned from eBay it's that if someone says something is untested it usually means they know it's fucked and just want to get rid of it.
Yes you're actually saving them the cost of paying for WEEEaway disposal - anyone with 50 graphics cards to sell is probably a business that is more than capable of testing them.
i bought an untested xbox 360 that was only fucked because it was full of dust and because the disc tray belt was fucked. its now fixed and being sold
On an individual basis, 50/50 shot.
With batches of items, it's either somebody cleaning out their garage, or they purchased stuff at auction and are just flipping it.
I've been pretty lucky, in that i've only gotten totally screwed a couple of times.
then i just turn them into shelf decorations. lol.
@@Dedubya- capable?, maybe, but is it worth it?
For a business, setting someone down and testing this many cards would be the better part of a day, for maybe a few dollars.
The emphasis being 'maybe'. Unless all the cards sell, you could be out more in labor cost.
I've got a couple boxes of gpus i've accumulated over the years, and i wouldn't even bother trying to test all of them if i was going to sell on ebay.
And i do have the ability to test every one. It's just not worth it, financially.
Got an "untested" motherboard. Took a punt and discovered 2 socket pins just needed straightening. All good!

Bro, you got a 6800xt for £2!

He could sell it on Ebay for like $7,000 like everyone else is hah, jokes.

The oven trick sounds like the old Xbox 360 ring of death, "wrap it in towel" technique.
Probably works as well too.
@Larry Bundy Jr for Xbox 360 tricks, it's probably more of the open case use hair dryer on motherboard components.
yeah its kind of the same concept, just sort of a cheap and iffy way of reflowing bga chips. Most people don't use any flux or add new solder, but if it works, it can be ok. Most of the components can handle heat, but I never like heating up capacitors.
it does!
lol i actually stuck forks in the fans of mine after repasting to fix it...worked for another 8 months

7:01 that card is a fx 5200, says it right on the pcb actually above the cooler & on the sticker on top of the what I'd guess is the s-video port.
ah thanks, my terrible eyes missed that haha
@@RandomGaminginHD The numbers on the sticker (9105210434) apparently mean that it's an AOpen branded card.
i used an fx5200 on my Pentium 4 :D good old days! gave me a solid 99 fps in cs 1.6.
It's more like printing than a sticker.
Wasn't that card infamous for being pretty crappy? The 200 in its name implies it already, but back then there was a great leap in video game graphics and if you wanted to play any new games the lower-tier cards were a very bad idea.
I just bought one of those 780s. I thought it was faulty at first as I couldn't get any display on an x570 or b450 board even with csm enabled. I tested it on an old fm2 board and it worked perfectly. I changed the vbios on the card to one that supports UEFI boot and it's working perfectly on the newer boards now. It's quite a respectable performer for the price too!
I appreciate all the work you put into your videos man, keep up the good work!
You really got the best PC content here. So many interesting ideas, realistic challenges.. Awesome.

Very well done camera woman.
Just don’t use the oven method with an oven you cook actual food in, you don’t want to give yourself lead poisoning. The heatgun method could work as well
Absolutely, and the fumes would be quite toxic too.
I want to give myself lead poisoning. Thank you for the suggestion
No lead from any recent board (ROHS compliance), but many nasty stuff you don't want in your kitchen oven anyway
@@marco56702 yup part of the reason we have to even bake or heat gun cards is due to non lead based solder, doesn't last as long through hot/cool cycles.
There is no lead in modern electronics.

look forward to seeing how you get on, and how well you do selling the ones you do end up selling. I believe from watching other videos the theory of the baking them in the oven is to re-solder any dry joints on the pcb, not sure if it will fix the chips on the pcb themselves hence it being hit and miss as to if it works.
I don't mind long videos as long as they are fun like this one

This is cool, I clicked so fast
So many video card memories in one video, even though seeing AGP cards makes me feel ancient!
Such a shame that the 5970 isn't working, that card was a monster when it first came out!
2:24 what a steal, the undercover RDNA 2 card
Watching your videos reminds of the days when I first got into PC gaming this was around the time of HL2. I remember not realising you needed an Nforce board to run SLI and had to make an embarrassing return to my local PC shop. If you can find an Asus P5N-SLI board that should be a good pair with the Quadro's.
I want a full hour of per card gameplay and repair video!!! That would be great! :D
Really excited for videos to come after these many older GPUs in older titles to see how they hold up
2:06 OMG I had that one! Had the AGP XFX one with the green translucent fan! that was a beast of a card...
When you get those artifacts/bands on cards, do you try all the ports as well as spraying into them with Deoxit or some other electronics cleaner? Sometimes it is just the connector, I find especially with DVI ports this can happen.
very nice content, please keep it up!
just when i thought i couldnt watch anymore older gpu content this actually catches my interest on pont! lol.
can we see the oven method filmed please? i have a few gpu i want to try it on as a last resort to maybe save them from the scrap pile
I love seeing all these old GPUs getting some attention, I own a XFX HD4870 that I bought back in 2009 right at the Crysis era.
THE BEST TECH RUclipsR I KNOW, YOU'RE MY FAV DUDE!!
Good video I'm looking forward into next one.
I'm officially jealous! Nice find!
I Can't wait to see how you use those Quadros, I don't know much about them.
Oh man, I might find one of these too haha. Beautiful Shelf art to be sure.
I think the Firepro's fan might be recoverable, sounds like a typical sleeve/journal bearing. Chances are that you can pull it right off the bearing with a little bit of work, clean up the old gunk and stick some grease in/on it. I've personally noticed that sleeve bearings that are in that condition are typically willing to come off their socket with not too much force. It's worth a try for a fan that would otherwise be replaced, right?
Under my main PC resting place (still a beast 2 years later) rests a magical setup that includes a Core2Duo E8500 resting inside the 775 socket of an EVGA nForce 750i SLI and my beloved GTX 260 with a whopping 2 GB of that famous purple label DDR2 ram at an astonishing 800 mhz. This particular setup still holds a Sound Blaster audio card from the times before, slotted in a PCI slot. This setup holds so much sentimental value and is dripping of classic PC so hard I can't possibly bear to do away with it. How many of us remember being able to barely run Crysis with the hacked DX10 setting not that long after the game released? The nostalgia alone is worth a whole lot more than money could ever account for.
Ok i think this is the video that we all want, pt 2 ASAP pls
I LOVE THIS NEW VIDEO FORMAT!!
2:16 woah you actually managed to get your hands on a 6800XT?! incredible
Around 3:55 you say something about the metallic fan, and I immediately think about my old Hercules 3D Prophet 9700 Pro, with its copper fan. Sadly, when I looked for it and found it, I found out it's just a plastic fan with copper-coloured paint... I absolutely love the aesthetic though!
Oh man I have a 8800 GTX with the same cooler as your GTS, and it even works. My old workplace just had it sitting around and they allowed me to take it. At the moment it's just the best ever shelf decoration. It's just too nice to have an iconic card like this
